BREAKING: Nike has signed LeBron James to a lifetime deal. Largest single athlete guarantee in company's 44-year history.

KD got 300 mil for 10 years. There's no way this isn't a billion dollar deal.

i want 4s, 6s and 7s.

also does this include a new designer on the line? cause Petrie aint cutting it. the man cannot make a hot shoe in back to back years and Bron couldnt even use the 11s cause the fit was trash (the look was too).

honestly i think the kd stuff will flop, the line has been unimpressive and keeps getting worse as the prices climb.

kobe stuff will do well if they do it right.

personally i think the lebron line has ebbed and flowed. the first three, the 7 and 8 all have decent retro potential. i've owned every pair in the line and personally think it's a little weird. they can't get away from the shoes being big and clunky it seems. the last three models have put a hurting on the progress made by the previous three.

I would imagine LeBron probably has stock or some type of equity in Nike, or at least pertaining to his specific sneaker line.

Somewhat off topic, but does Jordan have any type of equity in Nike?

whoever his PR guy was that spun abandoning the old Miami team for Cleveland as "LeBron sacrificing for his home town" deserves some kinda medal. that bought some good will and probably a lot more endorsement money since he was less of a total villain after that

1st verified i saw said something north of $30m/yr

2nd said estimates of $500m were "well low"

$35 a yr for 20 yrs puts him at 700m at 50

and 45-50 seems to be about when MJ's nike income jumped significantly

you have to figure that the deal is tethered to revenue, especially in his post-playing career.

kudos to lebron and his team here.

i don't think nike will have very much success turning the lebron brand into something like the jordan brand though. once he retires, hell once he stops winning titles and/or being the best player on earth, he will be more like a penny hardaway than a jordan in the shoe game. his kicks have not had the same sort of identity that jordan's did, he doesn't have the same charisma and he hasn't become synonymous with the sport in quite the same way.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

All those hit pieces that Kobe's agent had him write about his crew and how they were "over" their heads etc...now look at where he is... didn't do a lick of college, but has committed $41 mill to put folks through school, got a shoe deal to generate wealth for himself his family and community for the rest of his life....Bron and he crew have done pretty damn well.
