on offense and defense, the coaches are just hoping to hang on. it's disgraceful, really -- bad calls, bad penalties and just no aggression until the lead is actually blown.
- giving up a 60-yard touchdown on 4th and 14 with a minute left in the game? jeebus fucking christ. you can't choke any worse than that.
- 15 yards in procedure penalties on a game-winning field goal drive? moving a 40-yarder into a 55-yarder? who the hell is coaching these situations? inexcusable.
- 5/5 on fourth down? Butch can get the talent, but can he actually use it when the going gets tough? because right now he looks like a homeless version of Les Miles.

that "personal foul" call on Strong was amazingly bad. Ref bumped into Charlie as he was trying to walk away. Plus the holding call Strong was arguing was complete BS as well.

I'm obviously a huge UT fan, but this is a rebuilding year and I know we aren't going to do anything major, but damn at least let the kids on the field lose the game, don't rig it. That was the most incompetent/malicious officiating I've ever seen.

- "we're young, we are still learning." FOH. a first-year HC with actual balls just coached circles around you. a freshman quarterback threw to another freshman for the game-winning touchdown. stop with the excuses for your coaching.
- that fucking last drive! what *was* that?! first down at the 33 with a timeout and 12 seconds left, they let it run down to *THREE SECONDS*, then get penalized for sending in a late substitution! WTF.
I feel bad for the players. this team is good enough to win, but Butch doesn't believe they can.

Welcome to the club. This tight-ass approach to the last 15 minutes of the game is inexcusable. I don't know if it's Jones, Debord, or just a disgusting combo. And that prevent defense on 4th & 14 was just unbelievable. Bring pressure and make Will-Fucking-Grier make an accurate throw.

that's scared to win. that bullshit with the two-point conversion was infuriating, and the clueless look on his face during the entire final debacle of a drive was vintage Dooley @ LSU.

Butch is obviously a bad gameday coach, but he's done a legitimately impressive job reviving the program. this was the first season in a looooooong ass time that i was actually concerned about losing to y'all.
next year's game is gonna be a damn WAR. both teams are gonna be loaded with talent.

but my confidence in him as the right head coach for the future has gone down tremendously in a three week span.
to his credit, the team is in a better place than they've been in years, talent-wise. unfortunately, he also takes the blame for not having a damn thing to show for it. Derek Dooley would have a 2-2 record at this point as well. "one play away" doesn't mean much when your head coach is the one sabotaging victories.
this is a crossroads for him. if he's humble enough to learn from this past month and become a better head coach, Tennessee will start winning these games. if he keeps blowing two-possession fourth quarter leads and showing he's too arrogant or incapable of change, Tennessee finds out that Butch is a great program builder who can't coach worth a shit.
