Curry handled the ball less, because the team
brought in more ball handlers

So he got more assists, and got fewer turnovers

At no point, ever, did Isiah have the ball handlers
around him that Steph did

and the drop in assists is due to elite coaching and the emergence of Draymond Green and HBarnes.

No, idiot, the drop in assists is because of the additional
ball handling from contract year Draymond, Livingstone,
Barbosa and a (finally) healthy Bogut

Steph's team was considerably better than his team last
year, which is why he could focus on different things

they're really good, obviously. but we've gone a little overboard. it's amazing that he has those handles in combination with his shooting, but when people talk about best in the league or all time great handles, that's doing too much

steph' list of accomplishments is longer and fuller to be sure, and by my own standards has eclipsed Zeke in the all-time hierarchy. better player? i dunno really. maybe.

but looking back on the Bad Boys, they transcended hoop a little bit and had a very clearly defined arc as a group. they had to check off EVERY box before they got to the mountain top and then stayed there for a couple years before the front court aged out.

i don't think Isiah would trade his teammates or experience

While I agree, Zeke wouldn't trade his career. The Warriors pretty much came out of nowhere and they've dominated the league's tougher conference for 4 yrs running. 2 of which were without KD. And they've had to face the leagues best player in the finals for 4 straight yrs.

Imagine if the pistons stayed relevant/contenders when the Bulls came of age and Detroit had to face Jordan every year while Boston was still title good and NY was on the come up...that's what G-State has done.

in my mind, the difference comes down to the periodic reshuffling, and i launch Bron hate based on the same premise. Duncan retired, he wasnt clipped. OKC lost 2 of their big 3 in a 3 year window. Clips stayed injured. Houston couldnt find anyone to pair with Harden until the last two years (counting Capela first). same in the east, where Bron and his competitors coalesced twice. that affects more than just the team adding pieces...those pieces came from somewhere. Bron has played with the best guard in the East for 8 years running, and he accomplished that by taking his talents to wherever that guard was when he felt like leaving.

>Imagine if the pistons stayed relevant/contenders when the

that wasnt realistically possible within the culture of the league at that time imo. the only team able to do that was LAL and only because of the insane longevity of Kareem. i feel like back then you built your team, waited for them to mature, and then blitzed the fuck out of your window. without LA adding David Robinson, or Boston adding Charles Barkley, or the Pistons adding Patrick Ewing etc etc...none of those teams were ever going to extend their windows.

it was just different back then, neither better nor worse, but different. is your imaginary scenario any tougher than
- having to come of age with a titan like Boston in your way in your own conference
- all the while staying sharp enough to avoid getting tapped by HoFers like Ewing, Barkley, and Nique
- getting rewarded with Showtime, playing well enough to win, and taking an L under a few smh worthy circumstances
- loading up and doing all of that AGAIN before closing the book on Bird AND Magic
- then loading up and doing it AGAIN under year 3 of the Jordan Assault
- all the while, your "biggest" deal that whole time is trading old Dantley for old Aguirre
?

im not sure it is and the last part is mostly why. moves back then were like trying to wrest B&O Railroad from my Depression-raised grandma in a family Monopoly game. no one wanted to deal with the Pistons, and they literally punched too many people in the face to ever want to share locker rooms with them.

GSW has achieved more of what i have previously referred to as "greatness" and i won't ever deny that. Steph has piled on accolades that Isiah never saw, at a historical rate.

but i dont think Steph has walked a tougher road than Zeke did, and i dont think he will ever have to.

he is a standard and he got as Many Rangs as Lebron in half the trips and the cat done made his mark already, scary part he still got about 3-4 year run left if healthy and Motivated.

Zeke was badd all the way around however Curry you just see History in your eyes

Better leader, Zeke
Better true point guard, Zeke
Better shooter, Steph
Better scorer, Steph
Better passer/creator, Zeke
Tougher player, Zeke
Better career thus far, sort of irrelevant, it will be Steph in the end if it isn't already.
Better talent, hmmmm, tough one, they are contrasting styles of player. I'll go Zeke because of his all-around game but Curry's shooting ability (and his handle is nice, too) is almost enough of a weapon to swing it in his favor.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

zeke's career high ppg was 22.9. steph's equaled or topped that 6x.

zeke's career high ts% was .554. steph's WORST year was .568.

zeke had 98 career 30 pt games. steph's already at 148.

in steph's MVP seasons, even before Durant, he was getting assisted on 35% of his 2s and 55% of his 3s

unfortunately those numbers dont exist for Zeke, but that seems like something from which Zeke did not benefit. Joe D averaged 4.9, 5.7, and 4.7 apg in 88, 89, 90. nobody else ever had more than 3 other than microwave, who backed both of them up.

there was no iguodala or draymond (or durant today) giving legit tertiary/quaternary distribution to the point that Curry can play off ball a LOT. Isiah HAD to have the ball in his hands.

i dunno man. i dont think isiah's numbers are reflective of what he could do today with ball movement like the warriors have.

he'd already well eclipsed zeke's career highs in efficiency.

and he matched zeke's career high ppg (22.9) in year 4.

that's with no iggy, no KD, minimal draymond (13 mpg) and a pretty vanilla offensive scheme.

and back then he wasn't being as heavily assisted (27% assisted on 2's for yrs 1-4), he was creating his own.

idk, i don't think they're particularly close as scorers. steph's edge there is titanic. larger than zeke's edge in any other category.

for me, the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts anyway. steph's 2016 >>> by leaps and bounds than any season zeke ever had, even the ones that ended in titles.

steph's already ahead for me, right today. in 5 years it won't even be a serious discussion.

Explain how so?

Steph is a better shooter, arguably a better scorer but Zeke is the better defender, passer, ball handler, rebounder and is himself an all-time great scorer at the position, as well as the undisputed leader of his team.

I always thought you were a pretty nigga, like that O,
and consequently, we had a bond. It's not many of us
active on the innanetz. I thought I had a friend.

But your posting as of late has me concerned.

You know damn well that didn't address a damn thing.

Jordan was a bum ass 1 and 9.

1-9.

1-9.

1-9.

He needed an ALL TIME GREAT Small forward. Not a random
all-star. He ain't do SHIT without Pip.

And to make matters worse:

Pippen had that SAME BULLS SQUAD competitive and damn
near in the Finals sans Jordan when he was playing
baseball.

Jorn ain't do shit without him.

Focus on this like a handsome man of African descent,
and discuss facts. I don't care how yellow you are.

Discuss it for the ancestors.

A botched call away from the Finals - nearly beat the Knicks in the ECF w/ out Jordan.

Let's see how Cleveland does without LeBron.

Jordan was blessed with organizational fortitude and competence, a great coach, quality talent assessment and drafting - and a team that is (appropriately) heralded as one of the all-time great teams to ever play.

How many LeBron James teams are considered in the pantheon of all-time great teams?

None.

OE's point still stands though: that bulls team was *very* good even without Jordan - and had they beat the Knicks - would've likely went to the Finals.

so the 94 team that pippen "damn near had in the finals" (not really, they lost in round 2, but ok) was the SAME SQUAD that jordan went 1-9 with from 84-87?

that's what we're going with?

how many players do you think those 2 teams had in common?

here's a hint: it starts with the letter "one, john paxson" and ends with "nigga shut up"

Well, NOOOO.

Here IS A FACT:

Jordan was 1-9 without PIPPEN.

How good was Pippen!?!?

HE LEAD THE BULLS TO DAMN NEAR THE NBA FINALS WITHOUT
JORDAN!!!

Pippen wasn't just "a sidekick," he was an ALPHA DOG
FRANCHISE-GRADE TALENT. Bulls were CONTENDERS, bro. They
wasn't winning. But they WERE contenders.

The facts are facts:

Jordan was dogshit without another franchise-grade
player.

That's just the fact, bro.

It was a fun discussion while it lasted but the books are closed now.

Same thing happened to Kobe in the end.

Jordan still the GOAT, alone at the top. It's a beautiful thing, it really is, and it's amazing to see so many push through their limits in the hopes of reaching that summit.

So Bron and Kobe, their failures were not in vain. Through Jordan, they found themselves and gave us some incredible basketball.

Perhaps a new generation has someone who can unseat him but until then…*sips beverage and smiles*…Salut!

No doubt, Steph is hands down the greatest shooter I've ever seen

...but that's not what the position has been traditionally associated with...

Zeke was putting up 20ppg AND dropping 10 dimes

IMO, that's the difference.

Draymond is the GSW PG

the debate isn't who's the better shooter

the debate is who is the better player

if I need a PG, I'm taking Zeke.

What you're talking past...is they don't play the same position.

Zeke is a PG...Steph is a shooting guard.

You're not exactly comparing apples to apples here

Isiah was the franchise as a true PG that could have 3 peated

and although GSW have beaten a historically great individual player...the Bad Boys had to beat some of the greatest teams ever assembled in professional sports

Showtime Lakers
Bird's Celts
and Jordan's Bulls

The Bad Boys were Zeke as the franchise and a roster of role players

GSW are not that, not today

They were on that first chip run...then they took an L...and added the 2nd best player in the league

i.e. not exactly apples to apples.

the individual comparisons stop after shooting IMO

>Zeke is a PG...Steph is a shooting guard.

no, Steph is a scoring point guard. kinda how the league operates now.

>You're not exactly comparing apples to apples here

question wasn't posed as an apples to apples comparison, just who's better.

>Isiah was the franchise as a true PG that could have 3 peated

Steph is the franchise as a scoring PG that could have 4 peated. so.

>The Bad Boys were Zeke as the franchise and a roster of role
>players

Bad Boys role players:

Dumars - HOF
Rodman - HOF
Dantley - HOF
Laimbeer - 4x All-Star

didn't realize they opened a roster of role players wing in Springfield.

I'll take shooting guards for 200 Alex

You literally just defined SG

Steph WAS the franchise as a scoring PG that won one and lost one = fixed it for you

KD got back to back finals MVPs...and you want to give the credit to Steph...how Sway?

"Bad Boys role players:

Didn't realize you don't watch basketball

Do I really have to breakdown Laimbeer and Rodman IRT role players...? Goon and rebound machine, respectively

Dantley was a 2X scoring champ and 6X all-star BEFORE he got to DET

He gave up 10ppg to play for DET

Joe D's role was defending the other team's best player

I mean, if you ever WATCHED them play, their roles are quite well defined actually

WTF does that have to with the HOF?

Rodman was one of the greatest rebounders of AT
Dantley's resume was written before he got to DET
Dumars, as per MJ's testimony, was one of the best defenders at the 2 evah
Laimbeer's on-court rep doesn't even need words TBH

You think Dennis Rodman is in the HOF because of the 7 years he played in DET?

You think Dantley is in the HOF because of the two and a half seasons he played in DET?

?

KD going to GSW would be like 'Nique going to DET...again...not exactly apples to apples IMO

= fixed it for you

and you still haven't addressed the actual question.

>I'll take shooting guards for 200 Alex
>
>You literally just defined SG

you literally don't understand what the word literally means.

>Steph WAS the franchise as a scoring PG that won one and lost
>one = fixed it for you

oh so you acknowledge that Steph is a PG? cool.

>KD got back to back finals MVPs...and you want to give the
>credit to Steph...how Sway?

same way Dumars won Finals MVP when Detroit finally broke through and won their first title but you want to give all the credit to Isiah.

>Do I really have to breakdown Laimbeer and Rodman IRT role
>players...? Goon and rebound machine, respectively

You really have to break down how Laimbeer was a 4x All-Star from just being a goon, yes.

>Dantley was a 2X scoring champ and 6X all-star BEFORE he got
>to DET

Dantley was Detroit's leading scorer in 1986-87 and 1987-88 (including in the 1988 Finals), but according to you he was just a role player.

>Joe D's role was defending the other team's best player

and being the #2 scoring option + taking over as the #1 when needed as he did in the '89 finals.

>I mean, if you ever WATCHED them play, their roles are quite
>well defined actually

if YOU ever watched them play, they did alot more that just the roles you are delineating here.

>
>WTF does that have to with the HOF?

it's fairly self-explanatory.

>You think Dennis Rodman is in the HOF because of the 7 years
>he played in DET?

I think the 5x 1st team All-Defense, 2x DPOY, 2x rebounding titles, 2x All-Star, All-NBA selection + 2 rings in Detroit kinda helped a bit, yeah.

>You think Dantley is in the HOF because of the two and a half
>seasons he played in DET?

you think Dantley was a role player as the Pistons leading scorer for the two and a half seasons he played in Detroit?

>KD going to GSW would be like 'Nique going to
>DET...again...not exactly apples to apples IMO

that's exactly nothing to nothing because it doesn't have anything to do with anything. also you seem weirdly fixated on apples for some reason.

when you look at numbers, rings, etc.

not saying that's an entirely accurate way to look at it either but this is becoming a wilt vs russell argument, only if wilt had more rings than russell. maybe not quite that drastic, but close.

also i think curry is emerging as a pretty solid leader and this era is proving to be quite excellent. maybe not quite 80s excellent yet, but it's a much better era than the 90s and 00s, and i'd say better than the 70s also.

at this point i am ready to call this one for steph.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

http://www.landofbasketball.com/player_comparison/stephen_curry_vs_isiah_thomas.htm

Zeke has a finals MVP...LOL

Player vs player, I'd take Zeke

but Steph can catch him for career

handful more all-stars, 1st teams, etc...

Thing is...Zeke was, is, always will be the best player on The Bad Boys

Steph been relegated to #2 on 2 chips

yes, that matters to me, and yes, that will probably always put Steph behind Zeke in my book

(the best ever) but Zeke was better at literally everything else and its really not close. Better point guard, better defender, better LEADER.

His resume says it all, he beat Magic, Bird, and Jordan head-to-head and didn't need a "superteam" to do it.

Steph has more rings and will end up with better individual accolades but he wouldn't do what he's doing now in Zeke's era and Zeke would be even more dominant in this era.

This is one of the worst agenda arguments I've ever seen on this board. Zeke's basketball IQ is insane. His tenacity and his drive was insane. The fact that out of that generation of players he was the only small guard to be the best player on their teams and almost had a three peat is due a lot more respect that this shit in here.

Steph is a great player man. And trying to compare generations is so hard to do but Steph would have got his ass busted up in the 80's. Those were grown ass men out there back then. Different rules too obviously. Look what Jordan had to go through to finally win and try and tell anyone here that you can compare any of these guys on numbers alone.

Very interesting.

I dislike comparing players too much and especially can't go for comparing players from different eras. They're both great players and that's all that counts.

I mean, a lot of sidekicks through out the years always itched to prove themselves and do shit on their own.

He doesn't even have that aspect.

I can't think of another "great" sidekick who stretched out an injurty to take a gap year.

Whew.
