Chasing after that 6th ring SMH - not sure why that's even an option in this poll
He is NOT playing for another ring at this point so that he will match MJ's 6 - he knows that THIS Laker team as its presently constructed isn't winning ish (especially being in the friggin west) he knows his own game has declined not to mention his body which has maybe one last season left in it and even if has or better yet plays for another season after this one he more than likely won't be on a team good enough to win a title, especially w/him as the centerpiece
But he has to say its all abt championships and that he believes he can still lead a team to a title to not come across as selfish and for some of you all to continue feeding into the myth-making of Kobe Bean Bryant that he is this Jordan-like uber competitor blah blah blah
because if he were to say "I'm only playing at this point to move past Karl Malone (who he hates and who MJ TOLD him to past after Bean passed him last season) on the all-time scoring list and *possibly* try and catch Kareem" he'd further just prove what what many of his fans and apologists refuse to admit but what many of us already know him to be and that is the most selfish superstar player the league has ever had (by far) then it would make ppl realize that all those horrible FG attempts he's taking even as he nears retirement is why he doesn't seem to want to recruit other top FAs who will force him to SHARE the ball if he were really serious abt winning in the twilight of his career...but when he doesn't have a solid supporting cast around him his ball-hoggin is justified (like how some of ya'll did last season)
Why else is he jacking up more shots now than he did in his prime...
The good thing is these young cats the Lakers drafted won't have to play w/him after this season and their gms can develop properly

I am saying that absent an act of God like a team plane crash, it is literally not possibly for the lakers to make the playoffs this year in the west. 100 times out of 100, they miss it. No chance. Zero. I would bet every tangible peace of property I own against it. I award them no points, and may God have mercy on their souls.

Nor did I say Russell will be some stud his rookie year (though, while he won't be Kyrie, I still think he'll have a good season).
I can just envision a scenario in which, if they remain healthy, they remain in contention for that 8th spot. I don't see the 8th spot in the West this year being some 48 win team or anything.
I'd go another direction if I'm betting (probably the Kings, as weird as that feels). But their minute leaders last year were Wesley Johnson and Jeremy Lin. I'm not discounting a sizable improvement.
