"Floyd needs to fight Triple G for his last fight...."

there's really nobody else to fight... a rematch with Manny even without the surgery wouldn't garner the energy...

and there is nobody else left to fight for him at the smaller weights....particularly for his last fight..

I mean a Floyd v. Amir Khan fight to close out his career would honestly be a joke...

but a fight with Triple G would be historic for him..

He'd be favored, but the perception of a competitive fight would get this last fight out of people minds, so the ppv numbers would be solid..

a win give Floyd the middleweight title...he closes his career out making history in multiple ways, and quieting those who questioned his choice of opponents...

don't really see another compelling option for him..

Yeah Floyd wanted Mosley when Mosley was a name and Floyd was nobody but who cares? I guess you could paint that either way, Mosley's "tooth ache" and all that, but I dunno, it seems like that fight should have happened sooner.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Here's the thing:

Everyone wants to penalize Floyd for fighting guys at diff. timetables, but the persevering fact is this: Floyd was nearly as old (if not older) than all of the guys he fought throughout his career - so it's a credit to his dossier that he was able to sustain his dominance and elitism over 2 decades, not an impediment.

Maidana didn't get the nod until he destroyed Broner

I agree with the above guys that say Mayweather really already proved everything there is to prove against guys from his era. I would watch this fight but don't think it'll happen

There was a narrative created / sold for Maidana stepping into the ring with Mayweather

Broner was the little up and coming understudy of Mayweather. Maidana dismantling him in a rather savage manner created the narrative that Maidana's style would make a tough fight for Mayweather.

Golovkin just hasn't fought the kind of names that warrant recognition outside the boxing community. Believe me, I ask around and nobody who is a casual fan has yet heard of triple G

Triple G at least gets people talking about his knockout highlight reel and has had boxing dudes like Kellerman singing his praises for awhile.

Ink a fight with Floyd and he's gonna be a bigger name than Canelo Alvarez was heading into the battle.

There's nobody GGG needs to pass thru to get to Floyd, Floyd's approaching 40, wait for those kind of qualifiers that don't matter and miss being able to make the fight.

his fists battering the hanging frozen carcass of a adolescent bison, the echoes reverberating through an otherwise cemetery-quiet tiled bathhouse. then cut to him removing his gloves to pull strips of the flesh off the bison for eating

bigger name, smaller game, means a bigger purse and more of a cinch victory. gotta respect him for staying on top of his conditioning because he ages, too, obviously.

GGG is what like 32 now? floyd won't even entertain fighting him for a couple more years

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

him or whoever would present the best challenge for Floyd...

but I think we all know he'll handpick Khan....

wouldn't it be nice if Floyd and Ward could meet at a catch weight and rumble....

.. besides I don't see Floyd wanting that..

he doesn't agree with everybody who might feel he needs to still cement his legendary status by fighting a likely P4P candidate who has been 15 lbs bigger his entire career than Floyd's biggest...

stylistically this would be the best possible fight for either of them.. realistically.. forget about it and pack another bowl.

just listened to Surrounded by Thieves on the commute this morning. Next up is Art of Self Defense.

I still think Snakes and Death are my favorite records though.

And yeah the new Pallbearer is better than I thought originally. I just miss their old drums.

now that Ward's contract issues are resolved, it's a possibility now...

that and the Canelo fight would be GGG biggest on the horizon...

50. "Well GGG is the WBC Mandatory contender for Cotto's title."
In response to Reply # 45

If Cotto wins in a few weeks, he has to face GGG or be stripped of the belt.

http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/post/_/id/12127/cotto-golovkin-wait-and-see

Rumor has it that GGG has been/will be asked to stand down so that Cotto/Canelo can happen first, and then he'll fight the winner.

So GGG/Ward is still a ways off.
