""Highly Unlikely" that Love returns at all this postseason -Griffin"

Ligament and labrum damage in addition to dislocation. Not good. While the 2012 Heat still won the 'chip when Bosh missed significant action during the first 2.5 playoff series, it's unlikely that Love will return at all in the playoffs.

Nothing new for Bron to deal w/ adversity and key players being injured, though.

http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2015/4/28/8508463/kevin-love-injury-unlikely-return-cavaliers-nba-playoffs

It's "highly unlikely" that Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love will return at any point this postseason because of his shoulder injury, Cavaliers general manager David Griffin said Tuesday.

Love was officially ruled out Monday for the Cavaliers' second-round series against either the Chicago Bulls or Milwaukee Bucks after suffering a dislocated shoulder in Cleveland's series-ending Game 4 victory over the Boston Celtics on Sunday. Griffin said it "sickens" him that the injury occurred thanks to a "non-basketball play" that involved Kelly Olynyk yanking on Love's arm when the two were going for a rebound.

In addition to the dislocated shoulder, there's ligament and labrum damage. Bleacher Report's Howard Beck reports that Love's labrum tore away from the bone and will need at least four-to-six weeks to heal. Surgery is still an option on the table for the power forward, although he could opt to try and let the injury heal on its own.

This news makes the Cavaliers' road to a title even more difficult. Head coach David Blatt will have some major decisions to make in regards to his rotation, and everybody on the roster will have to step up with Love likely out for the year and J.R. Smith gone for the first two games of the next round due to a suspension.

Not only does this injury have an impact on this postseason, but it makes Love's pending free agency all the more intriguing. Perhaps Love now feels more inclined to opt in to his deal with the Cavaliers next year in order to make another run with this group. Or maybe he uses this as an opportunity to go elsewhere. Either way, it'll be a fascinating next few months in Cleveland.

for a change.

Almost makes me want to root for him.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

So that's one.

As long as Kyrie is considered a future HOFer, I'm cool with the "one HOFer teammate is enough" standard.

Last time I checked he was making around 7 mil.

Thanks for dropping the knowledge, though.

And you're right, a guy who has had three knee surgeries in three years should be expected to seamlessly carry his team past an elite (statistically, Milwaukee is elite) defense. If LeBron faced such injury hardships we would obviously expect him to come back to MVP form without hiccups. Because that's how agenda's work, baseless emotion takes the place of common sense and logic.

the situations are not comparable.

The whole JR agenda from me was that JR is who he is and he will rear his ugly head or non productive basketball play. Which he has.

If you want to talk about JR in relation to Melo in some way, by all means, do you.

I remember propping woody for getting through to JR and getting him to contribute like no one else has, but then he regressed and went back to being an idiot.

I never said JR Smith was a good 2nd option on a contending team lol.

There was a reason why Woody kept his ass coming off the bench. He was good for offense on most nights(during that year) but that about it.

It's not about "who you had" doing X or Y or Z

It's about every team being a "full strength"

Houston hasn't been at full strength.

Neither has Portland.

I don't see anyone making excuses for them.

Cleveland has no excuses.

This is getting silly, and truly making you look like a fool.

Similar to saying that Big Baby plays Draymond Green minutes, to be honest.

It's cool you make up weird arguments, but seriously...nobody cares about Portland. They were the 5th best team in a conference with 3 contenders to make the finals. Nobody gives a shit. It's a weird argument to pull out of the sky, but also one that doesn't exist...because nobody cares.

You have a real history of lying, though...so I get it.

Go Red Sox, right?

every time a major injury occurs, there are plenty of people on this board dry-partying because it helps their agendas in some way.

i mean, hey...i've done it. but, i ain't wishing nobody a speedy and full recovery if i don't mean it. and that's why for the rest of the postseason, if someone not named klay or harden or blake or dwight or JJ or schroder or austin or wearing a cavs uni gets fukked up, please take my utter silence to mean "i don't feel sorry for you, dogg."

Or when Beverly went down?

I mean, while we're talking about "full strength" and

Playoffs are the same.

This is a chance for a new dramatic story arc.

Sucks for Kevin Love...REAL bad.

But the playoffs are going to be fine.

New stories. New opportunities for legendary performances.

It's actually a "marquee player on a team favored to go to the Finals has just had his injury status changed from 'out next series' to likely done for the playoffs'" post. That's significant. Then reply #1 instantly derailed it. Whether anyone felt bad for Portland or Houston or Memphis is immaterial. No one partied on Beverly's injury or took shots at Harden, partied on Wes' injury or took shots at Dame Lillard, partied on Conley's injury or took shots at Gasol/Randolph.

Already considered a top 5 player to ever play the game, and he's got a good half-decade of elite-level basketball yet to go. He really doesn't have as much pressure on him as people think.

cats like 'Melo got pressure. He needs to get to a conference final lest his
entire career be in vain. Durant got pressure. He's got to find a way to be durable and re-invent himself, lest his championship window be already rendered closed, and 2011 but a distant memory of his last real chance at a 'chip. Rose got pressure. He might never again be this healthy with this type of supporting cast/coaching ever again, and he's never tasted the Finals. Cliff Paul got pressure. He is on the verge of being ousted again as his career moves on into its post-maturity phase and he still hasn't gotten over the hump. Harden got pressure. He's got to live up to MVP stature and not become the next great player never to win a title.

Bron a made man.

That's why it's so hard to win a Chip....Injuries, a lack of chemistry, a team suddenly getting hot at the right time....Shit happens.....

Bulls fans have suffered three playoff seasons of being a MASH unit. To the point where we were depending on Nate Robinson to win us playoff games and another season going to battle with no Noah or Deng....So that Love injury is par for the course.

And even with that Cleveland is still coming out the East. James has taken worst teams to the Finals...

No reason to cry about it....It happens....A lot...

I don't know if they always play like that because I don't watch Boston, but they were playing that ugly bullshit Butler ball.

The entire game Celtics players were getting their arms tangled up, constant clutching and grabbing arms. Every single rebound situation, arms were wrapped up, far more than what is normal. Very few clean rebounds.

Stevens already contributed to making college hoops nearly unwatchable by helping popularize that bullshit style of play, now this asshole is fucking up the NBA playoffs.

That level of tangling and grabbing happens all the time, especially visible if you have a good seat in person. Blaming Stevens for bringing that type of ball is a joke...if you ever watched a Jerry Sloan team, to name one example. you'd wonder how there wasn't a foul called on every possession lol.

>That level of tangling and grabbing happens all the time,

Sure, players' arms get tangled all the time. But locking up an arm and applying pressure is not a basketball play - it's a wrestling maneuver - and that's why a one-game suspension was rendered.

You can't have guys getting injured because of non-basketball plays, period.

If he gets injured while they are competing for a rebound? Fair game. He gets injured because Olynk wants to play scrappy basketball and do whatever it takes to prevent Love from getting a rebound, even if it means applying an arm-bar? Suspension.

if you think supplemental discipline is not political, then i dont know what to tell you. it is, in every sport. in the nba it just pops up less than in the nfl and nhl, because many of their suspensions are essentially automatics (number of techs, number of flagrants, leaving the bench, throwing a punch, etc).

as for stevens revolutionizing gooning up the NBA, ZOMG, i hope no one gives these strategies to the memphis grizzlies! lol, bammerizing the game against a tougher opponent is as old as anyone can remember. that play happens regularly on rebounds and loose balls, it just got a little out of hand here and unfortunately it cost love/cleveland big.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I don't believe he did. But tape don't lie: He put him into a mock arm bar, locked arms, applied pressure, and dislocated his shoulder.

That's not a routine basketball play, any way you look at it.

Do I think Stevens was trying to goon up his team? Not really, but I do think he was trying to get them to play more physical (which is fine). He called a timeout in the first 3 minutes after Cleveland pulled consecutive offensive rebounds and said: "no matter what happens, no more offensive rebounds. I don't care what else happens. That stops."

So, Olynk basically said 'no matter what, he's not getting this rebound" - well, just so happens that the 'no matter what' resulted in a dislocated shoulder via an arm-bar.

Unacceptable.

all said that it's a common play that has been a part of the game forever, and that there was nothing at all dirty about it. i respect their perspective on the subject more than any okp or tv talking head.

Monday night. Not saying you're biting him, at all. Just struck me because it was practically verbatim talking about Stevens at Butler and how the Celtics were playing.
