"Wrestling Thread: Extreme Rules to Payback"

This is shaping up to be an extra violent Raw episode!

Ziggler vs. Sheamus in a "Kiss My Arse" match. Should be a good match, but really??? Really???

Reigns vs. Big Show. Will this be worse than that Orton/Show match everyone booed? It's not looking good. This is Reigns' first PPV match with an opponent that won't be able to hide his flaws.

Divas Title: Nikki vs. Naomi. As much as I love Paige and am not crazy about Naomi's ass-based offense, it's refreshing to see someone else in the title picture here, and Naomi's heel turn was well done.

Tag Team Championship: Brass Ring Club (which they still haven't used officially for some reason) vs. New Day. Love the heel turn by New Day, shoulda debuted that way.

US Title: Cena vs. Rusev in a Russian Chain match. With this open challenge thing being the best thing on Raw, I actually want Cena to win. The stipulation is stupid as hell though.

Intercontinental Title: Bryan vs. BNB (if Bryan is healthy ) I feel bad for Bryan. I'm not quite as pessimistic as everyone else on his future, but its clear he can't be the workhorse that he wants to be. I really can't blame WWE if he never wins another title again.

WWE Championship: Rollins vs. Orton in a Steel Cage match and the RKO is banned. They'll have to deliver as the middle of this card will likely be boring.

I saw a rumor that they won't even replace the IC match with anything else if its scraped, but I'd love it if they threw in a Neville match here and let him win.

sheamus goes over and dolph continues to circle the drain as a mechanic. sheamus is back to his natural role as an annoying heel personality, but still semi-monster enough on offense, with dolph as the biggest over-seller on the company.

good position for reigns to be in, since big show can draw most of the boos away from him. but if the the match sucks, the chicago crowd's gonna let 'em both know early.

since calling the audible for wrestlemania, it's clear vince is protecting reigns.

edit: shit, they're both gonna booed outta the building either way.

yep. haven't watched new day lately, but their babyface, perma-smile iteration was wack. down for a black stable though.

a DQ finish let alone a W would keep rusev strong, but it sounds like that can't happen.

>This is shaping up to be an extra violent Raw episode!

I don't even think it'll be that violent...hehe. With Mania, I reached a point where I thought it was 'obvious' that Mania would easily outdo the doom and gloom expectation. With this, I don't see it yet.

It is wild that Wyatt can't even get a spot on shows..that's how badly they've messed him up. When he talks on Raw, I fast forward and check recaps to see that I missed nothing.

Isn't Ambrose/Harper on here too? If so, it'll be solid. Hopefully they both go on to better things.

>Ziggler vs. Sheamus in a "Kiss My Arse" match. Should be a
>good match, but really??? Really???

They'll be fine, but that stip ain't nuthin. And I can't see it actually happening..nor do I want to.

>Reigns vs. Big Show. Will this be worse than that Orton/Show
>match everyone booed? It's not looking good. This is Reigns'
>first PPV match with an opponent that won't be able to hide

If this doesn't end fast, the negative chants will rain down. I think I get why they're doing this, but I don't agree with it at all. Reigns isn't super strong and lifting Show is old news anyway.s Reigns should be working with Harper or somebody like that...hell, even Husky Wyatt.

>Divas Title: Nikki vs. Naomi. As much as I love Paige and am

I like Naomi. Nikki is better than she's ever been. They'll get a little time. The Bellas as faces doesn't work for me..they're BOTH hot (especially in person), but they aren't terribly likable.

>Tag Team Championship: Brass Ring Club (which they still
>haven't used officially for some reason) vs. New Day. Love the
>heel turn by New Day, shoulda debuted that way.
>

This will be fun regardless. New Day being slowly dropped into the heel deal is good stuff. It shows that those dudes deserve spots on the roster and fun things can happen with them getting lots of mileage out of basic heel cheating to win shenanigans.

>US Title: Cena vs. Rusev in a Russian Chain match. With this
>open challenge thing being the best thing on Raw, I actually
>want Cena to win. The stipulation is stupid as hell though.
>

Cenawinslol. It'll be fine but I'm not crunk about it. I just wonder who Jern deals with next...Reigns? Maybe Reigns...

As a side note, I see a member of The Shield winning MitB again this year. Either that or Brock.

>Intercontinental Title: Bryan vs. BNB (if Bryan is healthy >won't be]) I feel bad for Bryan. I'm not quite as pessimistic

This match ain't happening in any kind of real way. Maybe Barrett gets the rub with some kinda quick heelish win that 'further hurts' DB. But DB has to be well enough to do even that.

>WWE Championship: Rollins vs. Orton in a Steel Cage match and
>the RKO is banned. They'll have to deliver as the middle of
>this card will likely be boring.
>

It'll be fine in a 'Ric Flair and his boys cheat like crazy to win a match vs Dusty at a Great American Bash house show' type of way. I just hope we don't get too much Randy Orton time-filling 'psuedo violent' offense. Let Rollins get beat up a little, do his handful of video package stunts with Orton as the catcher, sneak in the Kane story, then take us home.

>I saw a rumor that they won't even replace the IC match with
>anything else if its scraped, but I'd love it if they threw in
>a Neville match here and let him win.

We can dream..that would be cool. Under the dream column: Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens ladder match could've straight up stolen/stopped the show. But maybe that's Extreme Rulez 2017 stuff.

That should be good. And finally Ambrose will win a PPV match (hopefully).

I think he gets involved in the Reigns match, cause I think that's who his promos are about.

I want a cleanish Rollins win here actually, but it probably won't happen. I love his weasel heel role, but he needs to start looking like a believable champ with Brock out of the picture.

Man, bummed about this in terms of another Bryan injury. Obviously, I hope it's not too serious, and he'll be back relatively soon. I'm not ready for Bryan to retire.

However, love that Neville is getting this spot. If Bryan has to give up the title, they can toss BNB, Sheamus, Dolph and Neville in some sort of four-way for the belt, and that shit would kill. I'm always down for a tournament, too, if they have to go that route. Feel like there's a lot of talent around to fill out a really great IC title tournament.

We'll see, though. Hopefully Bryan is okay and just needs a few weeks off.

Pleasantly surprised he got the win. It's great to see how much fans are already into Neville, too. In, what, less than a month they've gotten to a point where fans are going nuts if they so much as hint that a Red Arrow is coming. Neville's gold. He's already one of the most exciting parts of any show he's a part of.

Yes he is. Now they have to stay patient with his existence and not all of a sudden have him maining smackdown vs big show.

Sign me up as long as there's a limit on the bs people who totally aren't winning being involved. An underdog like Neville is fine but I'm talking Kane, Ryback, Show, etcetera...

you may have earned some return fans with Wrestlemania, and you gave the Network away for free this month...and this is the show you put out.

- guys driving away to end a match
- no Bray Wyatt
- a "chain match" that I'm pretty sure changed rules halfway through
- a confusing finish to your main event

I don't get these people man.

>Harper vs. Ambrose

Nice finish that makes sense for two crazy guys.

>Ziggler vs. Sheamus

I'm always for a Ziggler win. Still an awful stipulation though. Just when i thought I was out of the attitude era, they pull me back in.

>Reigns vs. Big Show.

A lot more entertaining than I thought. They did what they needed to do here. Show was the strongest he's looked in years. I don't think Reigns will ever be that great of a wrestler, but he seems to understand storytelling, and that's probably more important.

>
>Divas Title: Nikki vs. Naomi.

Oh right, this happened. I was staring at Naomi's boots the whole time.

>
>Tag Team Championship: Brass Ring Club (which they still
>haven't used officially for some reason) vs. New Day.

Nice finish. Heel New Day is the way to go.

>
>US Title: Cena vs. Rusev in a Russian Chain match.

I think I always be bored by strap matches, but they did some good stuff with this. Not looking forward to Rusev saying "I quit" though.

>
>Intercontinental Title: Bryan vs. BNB (replaced by Neville vs. BNB)

Just what I wanted the replacement to be. Well done.

>
>WWE Championship: Rollins vs. Orton in a Steel Cage match and
>the RKO is banned. They'll have to deliver as the middle of
>this card will likely be boring.
>

It literally doesn't matter what they do with Kane or how myuch they build it up, I'm always left wondering why I should care. He's been with the Authority for a year and a half now, and has been teasing leaving for a while, and they won't even pull the trigger?

I'm reading good things about me each segment

-New Day vs Orton/Reigns.

-Ambrose vs Rollins. I'm reading the crowd was hot and the match delivered.

-Bret Hart!

-Sami Zayne debuts and has a match that apparently rivaled Rollins and Ambrose

-Sheamus/Barrett vs Neville and Ziggler. I haven't read anything about the match yet but that sounds like a fantastic tag match for obvious reasons.

We still get some Kane nonsense and I haven't gotten to the end of the spoilers yet but this sounds like a great wrestling show.

Cena gets to keep winning while making the newer guys look awesome. Two birds with one stone. Plus once Slater actually gets his chance it's gonna be glorious. I love it. I'm really surprised how well they've handled Zayn and Neville's debuts.

>-Ambrose vs Rollins. I'm reading the crowd was hot and the
>match delivered.

I was dreading this cause I thought Ambrose was just getting fed. Pretty great, although it's looking like Summerslam will also be a triple threat. It's not cool that the champ keeps having to go through multi-man matches. Rollins needs some legitimate wins though.

edit: Loving New Day right now. At this point I almost want to give WWE credit for fucking up debuts just to spin it later a la Fandango and Batista, but I don't think it was planned.

In response to Reply # 33

(surprise, surprise... hunter hearst helmsley and stephanie mcmahon weren't on the air, and the show was mostly good. though still need to cut it back down to two hours.)

maybe it's 'cause ambrose was relegated to the mid-card black hole for a while and is instantly in the main event picture now against an old foe.

either way, he's being booked really well, and montreal invariably being a white-hot crowd was the perfect venue to get him there. LOL @ the hitman kinda ignoring cena, who had one of the worst pandering attempts to a hostile crowd as we've seen in some time. even worse than chicago.

but yeah, i'm not a fan of the triple-threat/four-way matches for the title. way overused. that and promo interruptions. like, when's the last time someone cut a monster promo and didn't get interrupted?

This probably sounds real petty, but remember back in the day when wrestlers would just run out or come out to interrupt a match or promo? No music magically playing? I miss that.

Theme music just magically playing whenever someone suddenly appears on screen has always just felt stupid, to me. We know it's all scripted but it doesn't have to feel scripted.

i'm sure it's a consequence of having to stretch out a three-hour show.

when you look back on the first half of '97, you had bret-shawn-austin-etc all interrupting each other without the music and it worked well.

granted, they were planting the seeds of the attitude era and even mid-carders were getting big pops.

but like other poster said, i think it really jumped off with austin and the *glass breaking*

I don't watch Smackdown, and I didn't have the sound on for that last match. Are they just back together because fuck it, why not? Or did they come together over some mutual hatred of Fandango that I've been ignoring for however long?

I mean, Harper was putting on dope matches every week, but I honestly don't know if Rowan did anything post-Survivor Series. They were a fun team, though, so I guess I'm cool with it. And do we think they're just gonna roll them back in with Bray? They gotta do something with Bray, but I don't know if hitting the reset button so soon is it.

there's no logical reason to be predicting a Rowan squash. He hasn't done anything in the WWE that Fandango hasn't done. To answer your question, no reason was given for the reunion. Rowan just came out to beat up Harper's opponent cause he felt like it apparently (what happened to the rubik cube genius btw?). I'm for a Wyatt reunion, even if it makes no sense to do it this early. All three of those dudes have been sinking without each other. Those two reuniting w/o Wyatt would make zero sense though.

He just picks different victims to stalk and goes after them in the same way. I'm sure he works house shows and stuff but he doesn't really wrestle TV matches - he just appears in his own vignettes or to attack someone after their match.

He's crazy talented, it's a great gimmick, he has good matches but the routine of the feuds has remained mostly the same through Cena, Jericho, Ambrose and now Ryback.

Splitting up the Wyatts made no sense to me - Harper has impressed in singles matches but I think he and Rowan should've worked as a tag team first before splitting because there was a good run to be had there. I guess they're seeing that now.

Bray should be given a title I think - it means wrestlers have to actively chase him which could be a good dynamic. Either way, he should be wrestling on Raw way more than he does.

I don't even mind him losing his feuds if he proved a point. Like if he had lost to Cena but made him go over the edge and his character changed ever so slightly, that's something. As you said, he just picks on a new guy for some reason ("I watched you as a kid Jericho!" "Your father was bad Dean!") and win or lose nothing ever changes. No one gets converted to his cult, no one shows any lasting effects from his mind games, and the only two guys that were in his cult left for some reason.

There are no long-term effects to stuff he's done and I think he's ultimately boxed himself into a corner gimmick-wise and made it incredibly difficult to move forward from. I'm sure that he will progress though, it's just about finding the right avenue/story.

"people are still holding up their cell phone lights! looks like they're still on board." sorta, not really. i think people were giving him the benefit of the doubt at the beginning of each feud and then the interest waned each time as he said nothing of substance. i think this one was the breaking point for fans. it took him longer than ever to reveal who he was talking about, and now it's he's picking on ryback because... he was inspired and came back from injury??? what???? this is really slapdash.

Bray basically had to carry the month-long buildup by himself, had a match that didn't blow people away and subsequently had to move on from it with the loss under his belt. I understand Taker's a Mania institution but I think he should've been left off this year unless there was something he could really have got stuck into.

around the time the kids in black encircled cena and sang "whole world".

underrated angle imo.

L to jericho at the next PPV, which hurt wyatt and did nothing for semi-retired jericho.

Early on, they put him over EVERYONE. He was zombie noselling, pinning Snake/Snuka/whoever, etcetera. He even pinned Hogan and Jack Tunney had to show up to make up This Tuesday in Texas to give Hulk another go at him!

Remember when he got jumped by most of the heels on the roster to lose a casket match vs Yoko that time!? And they sold it like he was noselling death? AKA dude was treated like big business from the beginning. THEN, they spent years ruining him, building him back up, changing him, building him, then ruining him again, then pretending he's super important with occasional title runs and all of that.

Now, it looks like they are taking liberties with Bray because they think they can ruin him and fix him just like they did with Taker. But they are looking at it all wrong. Taker got legend status bestowed upon him and had enough good matches and/or classic moments to validate the billing. As for Bray, Shawn Michaels isn't walking through that door to bounce off a cell and/or to further validate a streak. And there's no Mick to do stunt falls either. AKA Bray needs protection, wins, iconic moments and HOPEFULLY a better week-to-week existence if they are ever going to get something out of him. He's barely a contender for any title right now. If he's not up against Ryback, none of us are confident that he's winning. He hasn't looked good alone since he beat Bryan that time with the killer Sister Abagail on the outside. He needs more of those.

>He just picks different victims to stalk and goes after them
>in the same way. I'm sure he works house shows and stuff but

>He's crazy talented, it's a great gimmick, he has good matches
>but the routine of the feuds has remained mostly the same
>through Cena, Jericho, Ambrose and now Ryback.

>Splitting up the Wyatts made no sense to me - Harper has

A freebird team of Bo Dallases? Awesome. I think Axel and Sandow's in-ring skills are a tad underrated, but still don't measure up to teams like New Day or Brass Ring.

If you don't normally watch NXT, check it out next week when Sami Zayn challenges Kevin Owens for the NXT title. Should be killer as always whenever those two get together.

Bonus: Becky Lynch vs Sasha Banks for the NXT Divas title

Second bonus: young Kevin Owens with the 450 splash

I bet that show was nice. Even with the injuries, that NXT roster is at least as solid as the average indy situation. And the high point people are super high. Tell us about it!

I need to get back into attending live WWE shows. I've been avoiding Raw/Smackdown situations for somewhat obvious reasons. I fully plan to get tickets and attend WM32 in Dallas because duh. And the last Mania I went to was 25, so I'm due.

This was the hottest crowd I've seen live by a mile. There was a chant for everything. The room was hot and muggy (which could've easily ruined everything but somehow didn't) so we chanted "we want AC!" Owens was in a triple threat with Balor and Breeze and started it by leaving the ring and sitting in the corner, so we chanted "take a seat!" Then he and Breeze teamed up on Balor after KO was kicking him and turned to Tyler and screamed "you do stuff!" So of course that chant got going. Also Owens got both in a chokehold and got a "Chokehold City" chant going. Along with being a brutal wrestler he's also super funny. Really the whole roster knows when to provide light moments for the crowd. Couple random thoughts:

-It can't be overstated how much fun Bayley is live. Same goes for Enzo. Tye Dillinger was also really funny and got everyone behind him.

-It also can't be overstated how great the Sasha/Charlotte match was. Can't believe how hard they went for an untelevised show. They must have gone for over 20 minutes and Sasha had like 9 really painful submissions locked in before finally getting Charlotte to tap out. Also Charlotte did a great Flair flop that made everyone go nuts.

-Tommy Dreamer came out for a Baron Corbin match and got a nice hometown pop.

WWE: Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair praised as female stars headline NXT live event for first time

By Rob Leigh (@ThatRobLeigh)Google | Friday, May 15, 2015

NXT stars Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair were hailed as “awesome” as they tore the house

The Women’s title clash marked the first time WWE’s developmental division – which has recently become a touring brand beyond its home
Center in Florida – has featured female performers in an in-ring headlining role.

Fans have praised the decision to promote Banks and Flair to such prominent positions on the bill for the first of three shows ahead of next Wednesday’s TakeOver: Unstoppable event

— Triple H (@TripleH) May 15, 2015

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley, who was in attendance, commented: “I feel so privileged to have witnessed history last night.

“The women were outstanding– and there was just that something special in the air – that special brand of magic that can turn a great match into a lifelong memory.”

Head of talent and development Triple H also indicated NXT could soon be touring internationally – and even make it over to this side of the pond.

Asked on Twitter whether the likes of Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Finn Balor, Becky Lynch, Tyler Breeze, Hideo Itami and Alexa Bliss could be appearing in UK venues in the near future, Triple H responded: “Working

Tyler Breeze comes out for the triple threat, then technical difficulties delayed Balor's entrance. Crowd was getting restless, so he comes out dry and everyone does a barebones version of his music so that he can do his usual entrance.

Sasha and Charlotte bring the house down every single time. During the house show before Mania, their match got the biggest pop, along with a massive "THANK YOU CHARLOTTE" chant.

Hopefully once they start touring, they'll keep the tone and feel of the show and don't McMahon-ize it...

can't see barrett with a clean pin here if they're going to keep neville's push intact. plus, the dude can't talk so he needs to be extra protected.

>Ziggler vs. Sheamus

i feel like we've seen this match 1,000 times.

and, is ziggler really wearing eyeliner now?

next.

>New Day vs. Brass Ring Club for the Tag title

2 out of 3 falls seems a bit long, but i guess it's so all three new day guys put in work.

>Naomi and Tamina vs. Bella Twins

what?

>Ryback vs. Wyatt

was there even a build for this?

>Cena vs. Rusev in an I Quit match for the US title

need to put this feud to bed already, since cena ain't jobbing to rusev and the nationalism angle's been tired.

>Rollins vs. Orton vs. Ambrose vs. Reigns for the WWE Title

Legitimately don't remember anything about the pre-show besides the winners.

Sheamus vs. Ziggler was predictable, but good.

I had a good feeling about the tag match, and besides the botched Cesaro spot it was pretty much perfect. No quick falls, which I liked, and I legitimately didn't know who was gonna win. If you don't love them after that milk toast interview, I can't help you.

Couldn't have cared less about Wyatt vs. The Big Guy going in, and nothing changed that.

Cena vs. Rusev was 2 stubborn bastards. They've done a lot with two gimmick matches that I've never particularly enjoyed, so credit to them.

Glad the heel Divas won.

I'm still trying to get a handle on BNB's character. Is he a tough guy ready for any fight or is he a coward? He'll go toe-to-toe with Cena one night and then cheat against R-Truth and be terrified of Neville.

Only two gripes about the main event: they still could've made Rollins look a little stronger, and this Kane storyline not changing will make for some awful Raws. Those are small gripes though. I think they booked this really creatively. The Shield spot was better than expected and I'm glad Rollins organized it (lol @ Rollins not knowing how to celebrate and just picking up a desk chair). The attempted fist bump was hilarious, and if anyone has a gif of it, please link it.

Yep. Owens is gold. His 'flaws' make him the perfect heel when people get smart and let him do his character stuff. Him and Generico are the business. And they are easily the #1 angle in wwe right now. Cena's involvement adding to it is a miracle.

http://wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2015/0519/594439/live-coverage-of-triple-h-nxt-media-conference/

Welcome to Wrestling Inc's coverage of Triple H's media conference to promote tomorrow's NXT Takeover: Unstoppable.

* Triple H apologizes for his voice and says "with a nose like mine, changing allergy zones three times" is a bad thing.

* HHH puts over Charlotte and Sasha Banks headlining an NXT live event last week. He wants them to change the perception of what women do in the industry.

* The NXT tours will continue. He's looking at festival touring and some international shows as well. He wants NXT to be a full brand by next year.

* HHH thanked ESPN and Jeremy Schapp. He said he hopes that they can work together more, or produce more of those for the Network.

* Sami Zayn has been cleared, an will compete.

* HHH thinks Becky/Sasha could steal the show.

* Matt Bloom has been promoted to permanent head coach at NXT. Sara Del Rey is assistant head coach now.

* Sara Del Rey is still working as a road agent as well.

* He already considers NXT an additional brand. He wants to find what's best suited for NXT. Things that work on the main roster may not work in NXT.

* Triple H wants NXT on the road 3 days a week by 2016. He wants NXT to have a two-tour function eventually. He doesn't want to lose the homegrown fans in Flordia, either.

* Triple H doesn't care if someone has indy experience or not, but having experience helps.

* He doesn't know if NXT will become a cable TV show. He's happy where they are on the WWE Network. Triple H sees NXT as a selling point for the Network, too.

* Hideo Itami will be represented, but will not be wrestling tomorrow night.

* While NXT is a third brand, it's still there to get people ready for the main roster, Triple H says. He says the best problem he can have is Vince calling him in the middle of a hot angle and asking for that star.

* Triple H says that there are several talents in NXT ready for the main roster, but there aren't spots for them, or else they'd be there.

* HHH says WWE developmental is a young man's game. He says it takes a while for them to get talent up to speed.

* Triple H says he likes Ring of Honor and Dragon Gate. He says he's not trying to make NXT a direct competition to them. He wants to make the best roster that he can. He thinks if NXT's business grows, so will RoH's. He said he'd love to help support ROH and grow.

* Triple H says there are talents that said they turned down NXT deals for ROH. He says they haven't spoken to those talents on any level.

* Triple H says he wanted to make NXT an individual brand from day 1, but didn't tell anyone that.

* Triple H thinks Samoa Joe is a phenomenal talent. Says he was at the performance center a month or two ago. He doesn't know if they'll do business. He said they only spoke for about five minutes, and it was mostly pleasantries.

* He says there are plenty of talents that won't make it on the main roster, and gimmicks that won't work on the main roster.

* Vince McMahon doesn't see all of NXT. Triple H shows him bits and pieces.

* HHH doesn't see Cena going anywhere. He thinks it's great that Cena is confident enough to give younger stars a time to shine. Time pushes people to move to different roles.

* Someone asks about Emma. Triple H says it's more than possible for her to get back in the title picture.

* Triple H says Vince McMahon was blown away by the NXT show WrestleMania weekend. Triple H didn't know Vince would be there until last minute. McMahon messaged him and said he'd be there. Triple H said that several WWE executives came and were impressed, and wanted to do more with it.

* Triple H puts over the progress of Sami Zayn working without a mask and Baron Corbin.

* There aren't plans of an all-female NXT show or special, but it could happen.

* Nothing in NXT was by accident. He had a vision for this.

* The majority of the fans dictate what they do.

WWE is trying to finish the job by killing off the bigger indies. I imagine they can never take out something like NJPW because history and Japan, but some of the other ones? Maaaaaan...TNA is struggling/dying/maybe dead if destination America moonwalks out of the deal.

They are making the switch to wwe look like a great idea with the way they are treating guys in general. Sure, it could be shenanigans and they haven't been 100% clean, but Indy dudes and/or young cats are all up on these shows right now. When Kane goes away/mania 32 is over, there's gonna be a lot of space to get in where you fit in.

And if they're actually going to use the Indy guys and let them be awesome while toning them down in the ring enough to stretch out their careers, I don't see a huge issue right off. Nxt ladies work very Japan...90s cruiser Japan sans some of the crazier spots. And the Indy cats like steen and Generico are doing some of the best character feuding in like forever. We could be heading into a great period of stuff for wwe. Really, they are getting to a point where they have too much good stuff to mess it all up with HHH and/or Cena going over everyone. Seth by God Rollins is killing it and he isn't even booked that great. And he hasn't even scratched the surface of working with the mass of Indy cats who have shown up recently. It's on.

Already done, but this has zero to do with WWE more to do with advertisers specifically refusing to advertise on TNA and, for some odd reason, the ratings being less than what they expected despite being consistent with the Spike numbers I need relation to the number of homes DA is in. Also, Friday night Impact was a dumbass idea.

It also has a lot to do with Dixie not knowing what the fuck she's doing (pssst.....TNA is tits and ass, no matter how much you try to re frame it and pretend the cage dancers never existed. Change the fucking name for crying out loud) along with shitty writing and a cheap ass presentation.

far as the rest

I want them all brought up to the main roster so they can tear it up for a larger audience, but at the same time, what's the likelihood of that happening? Emma is still in this weird limbo after being brought up. I guess Paige is doing fine. The main roster has a bunch of women who I enjoy watching wrestle, too. Maybe if they call one of the NXT women up and give her Neville-like treatment that could be the start of something.

Anyway, point being, the tag match was cool. Charlotte is still a beast. And, holy shit, that Sasha Banks-Becky Lynch match was wonderful. I had no real feelings on Becky before tonight, but I'm so on board now. Sasha might be my favorite performer in all of WWE right now.

Now, does anyone have suggestions of some Samoa Joe matches I should check out? I knew of him, but I'm not familiar with his work, really.

It really might be better for them to stay down there. They all have storylines, fleshed out characters, get good screentime, and that's with ONE hour of TV a week. WWE has has 1-2 storylines involving female wrestlers at a time. If you're not in the title picture or attached to a dude wrestler you're nothing, and with 5+ hours of TV that makes no sense. There's no logical reason why someone like Alycia Fox can't have something going on right now.

As I mentioned in my other post, Bayley is super over with live crowds, and I hope they capitalize on that. Unfortunately they could easily turn her into another Emma if they're not careful.

This is all good stuff, y'all.....

I had an idea after watching some of the NXT matches on Youtube. They need to expand on making NXT its own brand. I think it would be cool to give NXT an even bigger platform on some Saturday Night Main Event shit. Keep it "indie," but make it a big deal like ECW was able to do in the '90s.....

Could you imagine NXT being on USA on Saturday night? It would be wild and allow the stars to exist in their own universe without being viewed as the WWE's minor leagues....The talent at NXT deserves to get some mainstream love.....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

I'm surprised they don't try more with the women.

The fact that Stephanie is the biggest female name for them to put in front of Ronda is a little shameful - I love Stephanie but that isn't a believable match-up by any standards.

actually they beat on their last earnings call (40% YoY on revs). though i think there's some creative accounting going on in stamford, per the inflated (free) subs number.

i still think they could do so much more with less, cutting raw back down to two hours... 'cause cats ain't sticking around for hour three.

Let it be something similar to what they did when they got snowed out, the night after Royal Rumble. Do live interviews, some promo packages, let it be a recap of what's happening in NXT. Cause 3 hours of a typical A to B Raw show is too much.

I hear you though, but I suspect the promos are the main draws. They've gotten better with their booking lately (I see you Cena), but they've gotten into this rut of booking Wrestler A vs Wrestler B every week against each other until the PPV.

What happened to the days of mixing up the matchups and don't let them enter the ring against each other until the PPV? These days when you see the PPV match you've already seen 75% of what they're gonna do in the build up.

I think they should really keep these guys' careers in mind. This could be an all-time great feud if they treat it right. When it pops up there should be raw hatred and revenge at the center of it, especially on Dean's end. No comedy. No silly antics. No costumes. Just two guys who couldn't hate each other more. And give it more than 2 weeks next time.

They treat it like a 'we need a match' match to give By God Rollins something to do before Brock shows up again for summerfest. It would be great if they could bring him up once a month or so...but maybe they want folks to forget about the most 'oh shit' wrestler on their roster.

I have to say that I like a lot of what NXT is doing right now from at least what I've seen since Wrestlemania. Owens may not have the traditional look, but the guy has a great skill set.

I like Rollins but don't see the next big thing about him. As much as it shouldn't matter,he has a real whiny voice and using the pedigree is pretty dumb. Then again I also have no idea how John Cena is this supposed superstar as his mic work sucks, his wrestling moves have no impact, and he has the same match over and over again.

If I can defend Rollins a bit here, the booking for him post-WM hasn't been great. The players involved are all great and the matches were fine, but they haven't made him look legitimate and most of the focus was on this shitty back-and-forth with Kane. That's been going on for months with zero advancement and it's the SECOND year in a row the champ has been stuck with that bore after wrestlemania. I've heard the voice complaint before and I guess I just like the weasel character so much that it doesn't fase me. His biggest issue on the mic is he stumbles over his words a lot. This may just be my bias, but I think that's mostly an extension of the promos being overly scripted (aka it's Vince's fault). It seems like he would be more natural if they just let him go, but I digress, because I have no way to prove that and that'll probably never happen. If I'm bored at work tomorrow, which is likely, I'll give my full thoughts on Cena.

Is there any justification for him taking up like an hour of the show?

Does Vince owe him money?

people couldn't be more bored with him, and they STILL announce his presence in a match as if it's something to be feared by the faces. i heard that Cena has never lost a singles match to him. even if that's not true, he's won 95% at least, but still has to sell like he's being punished when he hears kane's name. the storyline with Daniel Bryan last year was even worse. he beat HHH, Orton, and Batista in one night and his first feud to follow that is Kane, the guy he's beat a million times over. It got cut short by Bryan's injury, but after their Extreme Rules match the way Bryan justified the feud continuing was that Kane sat up a couple minutes after being defeated, so Bryan didn't really "put him down" as was his goal. yeah, seriously.

my friend had a theory that he must be retiring soon and they wanted to give him a feud to go out on, but that probably would've hit the dirt sheets by now.

It's no secret he wants to get into (libertarian) politics after his career is done, and him going with the corporate angle (growing out his hair!) is a way to transition him over to it.

I don't think retirement is happening any time soon but I think he's going to be in the spotlight for the foreseeable future until he transitions.

because I want to see his full thoughts on Cena as well.

But I will say, as a longtime Cena hater, what he's doing now with the US Championship feels really inspired. I really look forward to his segments every week.

Make no mistake though, he still has the same generic character, and (mostly) the same generic moveset. The difference now is the role he's playing in elevating a previously worthless belt. And he really is perfect in this role.

Edit: Also, this feels like a great time to get back into WWE. The shows were horrendous going into Mania. I think something turned though when Vince showed up to the NXT house show before Mania (and Mania itself being a killer show). There is a lot of buzz surrounding NXT now and you're seeing that spill over into the main roster.

the main thing to keep in mind for Cena is that he's a company guy, through and through. I'd argue moreso than any other top star there's been. They've rewarded him, of course, with a lucrative career filled with wins, but as much as he's been criticized for not putting people over that isn't his fault. He'll do anything they tell him to, that just usually involves winning. He was squashed by Lesnar at Summerslam and I can't picture Bret Hart or Hulk Hogan ever agreeing to that.

People roll their eyes at all the wins, but I think the role he's in right now is absolutely perfect for him. Given that they won't let him lose very often or change his character, him doing the US Title open challenge every week allows him to win while making the new guys look like a million bucks. It's been remarkably successful.

I'm not as critical of his mic skills as most other smarks, but I get your complaint. Sometimes he's SUPER corny, but Cena is there for the kids for the most part. I think it's actually been much more bearable recently. I know it's become very monotonous to have him turn a crowd that hates him into a crowd that loves him, but it is kind of an amazing skill to watch. (edit: that could just be because I'm a comedian though. it reminds me of the Bill Burr clip where a massive Philly audience is giving him shit and he keeps slinging it back until they love him)

You're right though, most of the time when I'm watching Raw I can't imagine watching it live, let alone paying to. I've only been to one, the day after MITB 2 years ago and I'm going to the one after SummerSlam this year, but those are kind of important blow-off shows and they try to put on a good show every time they're in Brooklyn since it's sorta their new home. Raw has actually been better post-WM than I expected, but sometimes I just see the location at the beginning of the show and think "Oh, there's no way they put effort into this one."

And this is exactly why it works so well with the US Championship. He has zero subtlety and nuance and anything reasonably interesting for smarky fans, but what he's great at is he sounds like he 100% believes everything he's saying.... without a trace of irony.

It's stale when he's in Random Feud with Random Wrestler but when it's used to sell a belt that's needed attention for a long time, it's perfect.

It's that I don't believe the stakes when he's involved. The feud with Bray Wyatt was "supposed to change him forever," but he emerged the same guy. Losing to Lesnar as convincingly as he did was supposed to change Cena. But he emerged the same guy. Nothing's ever going to change or change FOR Cena, and that sucks for the kind of storytelling they want to do. Because you can't have a redemptive or vindicating tale for a dude that never loses anything, even when he loses.

Let's also not forget that he sucked ALL the heat out of the hottest heels in the game at the time (it feels weird to say that) in Miz and Truth by LOL CENA WINZ in a handicap match to SET UP a tag match between them and Rock/Cena.

It's been an ode to HHH who is molding him kind of thing, but he does have his own finishers.

Actually he just had his finisher which was basically a curb stomp banned, so he may be in flux right now trying to find a new one.

He really does have all the tools though, and as the first NXT champ he basically represents the power of what NXT can do since he is the first NXT guy to win the world title. I think that's another reason they have him at the top right now, to really push how good NXT has been.

and HHH putting over KO seems to support that as well. The curb stomp will be back in some capactiy, either regularly once their lawsuits die down or as an every once in a while thing a la Orton's punt.

and generally doing a great job with it. Ideally, this will help build up Reigns, OR counterbalance a returning Lesnar.

And Ambrose's finish is actually a double underhook DDT a la Cactus Jack. Still, given the way WWE has completely devalued the DDT in the first place, I can't disagree with you.

Ambrose was an MVP of the show as the mouthpiece of the Shield. Both of them can work their asses off. Just throw them at each other!

But Ambrose is also to blame there, because he goes along with some of the dumber shit rather than pushing back. I think I listened to him on Colt's podcast last year saying that he likes some of the more cartoonish angles, so there you go. . .

basically that it's not all WWE's fault, but someone should be in his ear about the things he's doing wrong. The second rope rebound thing is weirdly robotic at this point and should only be pulled out every once in a awhile. His mic work has definitely fallen off though with the increase in comedy. There was a time where he was carrying bad segments just because he was that good, but that time has passed and now we have to hear justin bieber jokes. i'm not even sure what the correlation between him and rollins is supposed to be.

caught the most recent ep ondemand (mil motherfuckin muertes got me too hype) and now i'm going back from ep 1. this shit is too dope.

loving the look of the arena. great variety of camera angles although they're cutting a bit too much right now.

the talent really goes all out in the ring w/ a lot of variety.

the soap opera segments a great change of pace from the usual backstage stuff. great use of the folks that don't do in-ring stuff like konnan and maxine.

I usually recommend people start with aztec warfare (where they introduce the title) or grave consequences (best match they've had/best coffin match ever), but starting from the beginning is well worth your time. It's that good. I've watched many episodes/matches twice. The only issue I have is the lack of replay, but the DVR remote takes care of that.

I'm super behind on Lucia underground but I record it weekly. There's a slew of good wrestlers on there, the different angles are cool, and yeah...the novella (sp) steeze is good. And the evil dude is so evil...imagine that!

Let's see how this goes. I'm hoping New Day retains, since they've been the best thing going the last two months or so. I love Cesaro and Kidd, so I wouldn't be upset if they got the belts back. I'd be pumped for Prime Time Players if they pulled out the surprise win.

Still seems weird the reunited Wyatts aren't in this match. I like the Lucha Dragons, but Matadores and Acension are whatever. I've seen both have cool matches, but neither do much for me.

1) John Cena exists

2) John Cena basically never loses

Even if Cena wins the rematch, there is absolutely no way they don't give KO a massive push here if his debut was beating Cena clean. No skepticism needed.

Is that Owens handled his biz in the match. He also got off a big chunk of his Indy shit. I lost it on that moonsault. Joe is cool but give me Owens as the new Vader/big dude who is sneakily athletic and a damn good wrestler. And his face, raggedy beard, belly, Indy guy wrestling outfit, and 'fake lazy' trolling heel mic work are a lock to get him mad boos until folks catch on that he's the shit...then he's gonna have to WORK to get booed.

And really...Cena is on a damn run. He's...gulp...selling people's shit. It's almost like he working on it. Or maybe WWE gets that they need stars to replace him so that he doesn't have to be on everything every time.

Last thing...I'm glad we didn't get the Reigns heel turn the innanet was calling for last night. I think they may still do it, but I'm good with it not costing Stone Cold Crazy Ambrose the title last night.

There's nothing a heel Reigns could do that Sheamus couldn't probably do better. Even more, people know Reigns is a decent dude (family man, proud of his lineage, etc) Just don't do it, he'll be fine.

I've come away from Mania somewhat of a Reigns fan. For starters, he took an ass kicking all to not win the title - if you can't feel for him even a little bit after that you don't have a pulse. I also watched that behind the scenes special on his time leading up to and immediately following Wrestlemania. Maybe he wasn't ready at the time (though I would argue the fan's affinity for Daniel Bryan was at more fault than reigns' obvious greenness.) But I've at least been convinced he's up for the job of being an elite level top guy, someone they can bank on for at least five years.

after he got a great match out of Big Show, I'm a fan. Still needs work on the mic, but he's a great storyteller in the ring. I don't think they'll turn him at this point just because that turn would likely be an alignment with the Authority to cut Rollins out, and I think that could be KO's role.

I think it would have been better to have distanced himself from The Authority angles post-Mania though and not include him with the Ambrose storyline.

The guy made his WWE main roster debut with a clean PPV win over Cena.

Who else has a clean PPV win over Cena (let alone a debut win) in the last 5 years? Bryan, Lesnar, Punk, maybe someone I'm forgetting like an HHH, but that is top level stuff.

Even if he loses at the next PPV he is a made man as someone else said.

I just didn't think they would pull the trigger on an Owens win here, but they did and it was glorious. Cena's gonna win at MITB, and that's fine, cause KO is a made man forever now. Credit to Cena, I said this after Lesnar squashed him too, but what top star would've done that? I can't picture Hogan or Hart ever going out like that. For whatever criticisms Cena has received, ego has never been one of them. That promo after too... wow. Looking forward to the Owens era.

-I'm warming up to the Ambrose ending, although him going through the crowd with the belt was a poor attempt at recreating that Punk MITB moment. Here's my issue with Rollins never getting a clean win: he has to look somewhat legitimate going into the Lesnar rematch. I know they'll probably get Reigns involved too, but even then, how does Lesnar not get Reigns out of the way and then immediately squash Rollins? I mean he's such a coward Lesnar could say "Lay down or I'll end you." and he probably would.

-The Tag chamber match was good, if sloppy and uncoordinated. I didn't hate the booking, but I do wish the Brass Ring Club were the last ones out just to give us a believable team at the end.

-That IC match was absolute garbage. The Henry early entrance couldn't have been planned, cause no one knew what to do after that. 4 babyfaces was a bad idea too.

-Would've like to see a change in the Divas title or Brie turn on Nikki, just something to shake things up, but I suspect that's coming in the form of an NXT callup soon.

-Don't remember much about Neville-Dallas. Like the crowd, I was still coming down off the high of the Owens match. It's crazy that 3 matches followed that.

Although, what a weird conundrum.... I'm actually a bit bittersweet on Cena losing (of all things).

Now, hear me out... it's obviously a giant vote of confidence for both Owens and the NXT brand to have him win CLEAN over Cena. Cannot overstate how much I love this. However... I've also loved what Cena's been doing for the US Championship these past few months, as it's been a belt that's needed elevating for a long time now. What happens with that belt now? The importance is diminished somewhat now, especially after Owens stepped on the damn thing twice now (lol).

And I also feel that if Owens had lost it wouldn't have diminished the NXT title since it's technically the "minor leagues". My expectation on the finish was actually Cena wins via distraction.

One thing I'm happy about is the immediately announced rematch at MitB... at the end of the day, I hope that whenever Cena finally does drop the belt it's with some weight to it so it can be a legit midcard prize.

Cena is bulletproof. Brock basically nosold a decade of Cena match layouts and blew him away at summerslam. If that didn't hurt him, take him off the show for a month, or forever change him, we're gonna have some same old Cena for a while longer.

Jern is at the point in his career where good matches are more important than not losing. This whole us title thing is still on because it is. And remember, the idea of this whole US open thing was to get folks over using Cena's status and undeniable ability to be in on a good match...he's like super duper Lex Luger in that way. He added to the otherworldly Owens/Zayn battle, helped Neville, and even managed to make some guys look better than they have in months/years (Zack, Cody, Dean).

Owens is showing his whole ass on the main roster...trolling so many traditions at once that it's hard to keep up. I agree that he's basically the replacement for Phil. And I'm cool as hell with that because big boy can go in the ring and deliver the goods on the mic. Cena will show up with the belt and keep taking challenges. And Owens will keep showing up to call him out...vintage wwe/wrestling. As long as Cena doesn't win 3 or 4 in a row, this thing is gonna be great for both of them.

I'm not really concerned about John though, just more how the US Championship belt is perceived and ultimately handled.

In other words, this whole open challenge for the US Championship would be a waste if it goes undefended (and unseen) for weeks at a time once it's in the hands of a midcarder, like it was handled before.

It's great that Owens is getting pushed to the moon, but hopefully not at the expense one of the three main roster titles going forward.

If you'd have told me two years ago they'd come out of the Shield with him being the least interesting player I'd have laughed in your face. But that's the case.

I don't even know what I'd do different. He's "playing crazy". He wears jeans. His offense blows. He steals championships but never seems as obsessed just to win them. He sucks.

^^^I can't argue with any of it. Austin also said similar points about the 'crazy' aspect on his podcast too and said he wasn't taking to it either and would prefer a more refined style.
Wrestling in jeans is beyond weird.

In a real small place, maybe 2000 people if that. Awesome energy.

Oh yea and the main event was a 4 way title match between Tyler Breeze, Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and Kevin Owens

Crowd went wild for that as each one just kept coming, they didnt announce what the match was, the guys just came out in that order and then they announced it.

Not totally thrilled with the outcome of the MITB match. Match itself was fine. I don't mind Sheamus, but he was one of the least exciting possible winners of that match, for me, at least. We'll see. They've got potentially an entire year to turn it around.

What do we think of Bray/Roman? I like both of those guys a lot. They should be able to have some dope matches. But this is another Bray interrupts a big match and takes a guy out for "reasons," although we never totally find out what those are, right? It's just the same thing over and over with him. It's crazy to me Bray isn't my favorite dude going right now, but they've gotta do something new with him at some point.

Not sure why they didn't call it a DQ but I don't expect much to make sense these days.

If they do it right, Cena would miss one week or at least sell hurt for two shows or so. Apron powerbombs need to be sold forreal. They are just about the illest move left that most main eventers will take.

Owens is good at trolling the crowd effectively and wrestling in that video game/Indy/new Japan way that most of us love. And he's good enough to make that translate into the wwe 'throwing bombs' match template...which is basically the new wwe main event style since Brock showed up and murked Cena at Summerfest.

And Cena can work well enough. The 80s style of booking main event guys with stiffs/monsters hurt Cena almost as bad as him winning all the time via jump up+Ignore the whole match+AA+lol combo.

Mostly because I'm convinced this means we'll get at least one match with him and Lesnar and he's one of maybe three guys who could hand Brock a convincing ass whooping. Plus, he makes for an interesting wrinkle in the title picture.

I hated the Dusty Finish in the women's match and I really don't get the Bellas appeal but that one match carried the show.

Ambrose still sucks. Such rudimentary offense

Ambrose is Foley_new. But he can't seem to find his way off the side of a cell in the same way. But by wwe 2015 standards, he's out there getting critical'd several times a match. Rollins is a bumping machine and he's struggling to keep up with the bump count. It's crazy. That's why they kinda needed to slap the title on Ambrose in a short term manner to make all of these bumps 'count'. Brock is back tho so that's over with.

He's a hoss. WWE loves big dudes who are strong enough. And Sheamus is physical.

He just has a terrible character that folks don't care about. And he stays being somehow around/involved when someone gets hurt. And yeah...he also gets hurt and misses 6 months.

He needs to hoss it up and not talk much. He also needs a fake bobby heenan. I assume he joins the authority at some point here. The Brock/fella match is gonna be a physical affair.

The Brogue Kick sucks? That shot is brutal. Tell you what, go find someone who's athletic, 6-4, 240 of solid muscle and ask them to hit you with a jumping front kick. It's powerful, fast, and a very believable finish because there's no contrived setup involved (ahem: Cena).

Limited move set? Dude has like 4 finishers. As a babyface, his move set is basically the ideal move set for a big man.

He typically has very good matches. He's a Hoss's Hoss and he's about the closest thing to a strong style worker they have. Japan would LOVE this guy.

He's also an excellent heel and does things good heels do.

The problem is two fold:

They haven't developed his character very well. They're doing a good thing with him right now by having him beat down all these little guys, but they/he's missing an element character wise.

Two, heels don't have a ton to work with in today's WWE. They need to let him go all in and they won't.

He's a very good worker with a lot of physical tools. Creative is what's lacking with him.

He positions himself well here - he explains why he stole the title and sympathized with the working class segment of the audience. It's good stuff - stuff that should've been done in advance of the match and on TV.

Super negative and baseless opinion of Daniel Bryan, of course followed up by a comment about himself.

Bret Hart and JR almost go out of their way to get me to not like them anymore.

I get it..Bret can be pretty brutal. And sure..he's moonwalked quite a bit from the time when he wrote the book (great read). BUT he still has his 'harsh opinion' moments where he comes with some wild opinion that he knows damn well is gonna get him at least a look...like that time he hated on HHH and tried to sell it like an unbiased side note opinion.

Considering that a green wrestler hurt him after he directly said 'hey man, don't hurt me out there', it is possible that he's not bitter enough on that specific subject.

Really tho...The Rock is a superstar who can occasionally show up and work a reasonably legit and physical match. Flair is super duper old, but he got a chance to acknowledge his legacy and his oldness with a 'you're Ric Flair, but you're fuggin old' storyline. Shawn got a whole second career filled with makeup jobs in masterful 'story' matches. Stone Cold is one bad fall from being crippled...maybe...but if he eats a few sensible dinners and hits the gym, he looks pretty good. Taker? He's the master of the guest appearance..and the streak got to be a full-fledged thing that validates and propels Taker's whole career..and let's be real, Taker had a small mountain of rough moments, bad matches with sluggish monsters, etcetera. The streak borderline nullifies that stuff.

Meanwhile, Bret had a stroke, can't take a back bump or head impact of any kind, and he usually looks pretty rough compared to his heyday. And he has a pretty strong limp. Some of that was coming anyway, but man...one stiff/bad kick changed his whole life's trajectory. And he lost mad cheese off of that. I don't blame him for bringing it up.

Montreal, Owen's death, the concussion, the stroke...

I remember the Mania when Michaels had his retirement match against Taker while Bret had that match with Vince. Always wondered how he felt that Michaels got to leave in a blaze of glory on his own terms while kinda being the person that prevented Bret doing the same.

and in the interest of drawing money together, which is why he always talks so highly about working with austin and curt hennig.

i remember bret saying that when he worked with andre the giant one time back in the day, he was laying flat on the mat, selling... and was terrified when andre went to the second rope to splash him. but when andre came down and landed on him, it was "as soft as someone laying on blanket over me" or something.

goldberg worked stiff. word to the ryback.

did you catch bret's interview on jr's podcast? sounds like he's more bitter at the wcw bookers than anything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArLcA_Zy1Ug

Firstly, I can't stand Jim Ross or his show but had to listen as he had Bret on there. (Bret's my all time hands-down favourite.)

I think the comment "Bryan is done" seems a bit insensitive but he's never spoken about him with nothing but affection and respect so doubt there's any ill-intention there. The bitterness comes towards Goldberg - he really never misses an opportunity to throw in how Goldberg ruined his life and career, and I kinda wish he'd, well, stop mentioning it now. Credit to Bret in that he never bites his tongue for anyone, but sometimes I think there's honour in doing that too.

"We need someone who looks legit now!"
"Well unfortunately we don't have any of those available... how about we give a couple wins to this guy who's been doing nothing for a while? The crowd will totally buy into it and it'll be a nice build to the next PPV."

After the PPV, win or lose...

"What do we do now?"
"I don't know, have him lose a bunch and slide further down the card."

I'm less on board with Barrett than I ever have been these days, but wtf was the point of KOTR? To put over R-Truth? I've been a proponent of bringing back tournaments for a while, but not if you treat them like some bullshit.

I hate to keep harping on why Lucha Underground is so much better than WWE, but everything there matters. To my knowledge no one has long losing streaks and (even though it's annoying how much they mention it) every win does feel like it's getting you closer to a title shot or something else significant. To add on to that, the losses don't sting as bad because they're usually long hardfought battles. It's an amazing balance they've pulled off. Hell, the champ has been pinned in tag matches and it didn't take anything away from him. As soon as I'm on board with a character I never get tired of them. That's not just the benefit of 1 hour of programming a week vs. 7. WWE has all the programming they can handle and many characters aren't even clearly defined.

It's like they can only focus on 4 or 5 things at one time and God forbid you don't fall into those 4 or 5 things, it's just going to go downhill for you.

Barrett, as you say, seemed to be on a high but I don't really know what's going on now. Ziggler's the interesting one at the moment - contract's up very soon and he's making noises about leaving which is probably the best card for him to play right now (whether he's bluffing or not).

I suppose split brands and split titles weren't necessarily a bad thing(?)

After they cut the big gold belt I thought they'd take the secondary belts more seriously and that didn't happen until a few months ago. RyBack having the IC belt is a step back, but I love what they're doing with the US title now.

I've actually been going through attitude era stuff and I'm genuinely surprised at how into early Kane I've been. Dude was a beast, and kinda scarier than the Undertaker when he had the original mask and all that.

...That was a long long time ago.

Week in and week out, just "nah dogg your shit is played"

It's not outright heel behavior. Which actually makes it more effective. Owens is willing to fight Cena, he'd just rather clown him.

Was a little slow starting out but once it picked up it was really fun. As I mentioned earlier I only started watching when they hit Destination America, but I was fully on board with Jay Lethal from Day One. So glad he picked up the clean win. I was already hyped for that match, then their promo vid left me grinning and the ending had everyone elated. The Bullet Club match was another highlight. And I love stupid shit like cheering for a skinny guy named Cheeseburger.

They picked an awful venue though. Some of the worst sightlines I've seen in a small room. Really surprised they couldn't find something better in NYC of all places.

Balor-Owens was solid. Both of those dudes are awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed their match, and I guess Hideo is up next to challenge for the belt? Works for me.

Brock's match went about as expected. The only disappointing thing about is that it made me even more bummed that when Brock's around, he's still not really around, you know? I'd love to see Brock wrestle other dudes on the roster regularly besides whoever he's feuding with.

Everything else was fine. I liked Neville-Jericho, the tag main event was perfectly okay and the women's title match was alright, although I felt the end came a bit out of nowhere.

This sort of show is a solid use of the network. I'm not gonna wake up at 5:30 to watch it, but it was cool to check out later in the day.

Yep...it was good stuff. Jericho brought the goods even tho he was obviously a step slow vs hoss ass Neville. He ain't Flair after 95-ish status but he's obviously part-time and aging. So it was great that he repped Japan and just put hits on his younger opponent.

I keep saying that Owens is making a chunk of the rest of the roster look bad...or at least very limited. Everything he does just works on me. And his heelish trolling is the best. Then he does a damn senton because he's that type of a-hole. Just awesome.

And I'm warming up to the stomps from Balor. I've hated those since low-ki.

God, what an end to Raw. If Cena drops the belt in a few weeks and that's the end of the open challenge, it's been quite the run these last few months. Dude was having the best match of the night pretty much every week with all sorts of different competitors.

And, for fuck's sake, put every belt on Cesaro. He's incredible. With Kidd out for a year or however long, they've gotta just turn him loose. I don't remember how the timing of Kidd's injury played out, but Cesaro should've been in the Money in the Bank match. I guess it would've been out of nowhere to give him the briefcase, but he should have that briefcase. The man should main event Raw and PPVs and every wrestling show for the foreseeable future.

The suplexes. The submissions. Incredible. Put the IC belt on him. It only makes sense. We all knew Ryback wasn't gonna do anything with it and historically it's been with the best workers.

Have two great managers go at it while two great wrestlers go at it. There was a rumor that Heyman and Cesaro's "amicable split" was gonna be brought up again but it never came to pass.

Edit: imagine those two matching each other Suplex for Suplex?

That superplex he does from the apron is such an amazing display of strength. There doesn't even seem to be any way for his opponent to help him execute it - it's like it's all him. Incredible talent.

I don't need the heavyhanded 'we're pushing this guy now' WWE push. I just need him to keep randomly being in matches and being awesome so that the crowd can heat up around him until they feel like they're 'forcing' WWE to do something with him. Then, stick him in a title match or two, let him get screwed to through some more heat on him and a heel, then let him win it later this year or in Dallas.

Unless Fella is about to do something great they need to snatch that briefcase from him. There's only been a couple cats who have sucked more with MitB than him so far.

Guys who hit a ceiling years ago and have gone as far as they can go. Sometimes you just need to cut bait, and I'd do so with the following "pre-Performance Center" talent :

- Sheamus
- Ziggler
- Barrett
- Ryback

And Big Show should retire.

As it stands today, you've squeezed all the juice you can out of these fruits; there's literally NO money to be made from these guys anymore.

I don't think Ziggler was destined to go much further than he did, he maximized his talent and won a World Title. Godspeed.

Ryback looks like a million bucks. But he still can't work - he was pushed to the moon and held back from peaking. He shouldn't have gotten that push in the first place. But this is as good as he'll ever be. It's a wrap.

Sheamus can go in the ring. But every character he's ever played blows. Same for Barrett.

All these bammas are at best damaged goods and at worst trash.

Actually they could've pulled that off with Lana if they did it differently (as his manager, not gf, this is awful). Ideally I was hoping he jumped over to LU or ROH, but it doesn't look like that'll happen. He hasn't officially reupped with WWE though, so we'll see.

Agree on the other guys though. I shake my head every time I see Sheamus holding that briefcase. Ugh.

he's a selling machine, albeit not as much since the concussion. but yeah, his trademark babyface comeback fire has only gotten him so far.

looking back, it's incredible how dude was compared to mr perfect when he was an upstart. the thing about hennig is that he could work a match as a brawler just as easily as he could go 30 minutes with the hitman... all while still being an incredible seller.

Ziggler could been way bigger after the cash in, but those concussions came at the worst time & they just never really gave him that push again.

same with Barrett, I think he couldve been huge when he was supposed to win MITB but broke his arm. they even felt confident enough to push him again shortly after but he got hurt again & i think hes just gonna kinda be stuck there from now on.

They were pushing him so well before this year's Rumble against The Authority and I think he really does have a top level face run in him. The people are behind him, he just needs the timing to work out in his favour and it could happen.

I missed the beginning, but just watched the segment with Sasha, Becky and Charlotte debuting. Finally. They've deserved a call up for a while, and it feels like the WWE has been teasing one since Paige came back the most recent time. I'm pleasantly surprised Sasha is up now, since she still has the NXT belt. Hopefully they get a chance to actually show why they're all amazing in the ring.

Now, the Cesaro-Rusev-Owens triple threat was dope as shit. The roster is just absurdly deep with talent, and letting three awesome guys go out and be awesome for 20 minutes or however long is a great way to make Raw seem worth watching.I absolutely loved this match, and Cena on the announce team talking up all three dudes was a nice addition. I wasn't too into the Rusev-Dolph stuff, so it was nice to see Rusev back looking great in the ring.

Also, this was Cody's first appearance since Dusty died, right? I don't recall seeing him before, but maybe he's been on Smackdown or something. Happy to see him back.

Yeah...there was some really good bright spots on Raw....The Swiss Superman is damn near flawless in the ring...Like that dude can REALLY wrestle...Good match with Owens, the Russian and Cena (dude continues to work his ass off...don't know how anyone can continue to hate, corny or not...Cena SELLS it...)....

New Day continues to be the crew that everyone hates...It's a cool thing to see....They are really locked in into that old school HEEL role....

Brock vs. Rollins is just pure fun....

And Sasha, Charlotte and Lynch getting the push they long deserved....Those chicks can wrestle their ass off...Love the submission move spotlight...Not gonna lie...I kinda marked out....lol..And the crowd knew they were witnessing something special even breaking out into "This Is Awesome" chants...

Hopefully Vince and the crew continues their push....

Loving both of these teams right now. Big E on the mic before the match, everything Xavier Woods does outside the ring, any Titus O'Neil hot tag. It's all great. Nice showing for Darren Young in this one, too.

Yep..They all have a lot of gas left in their current roles. That's an awesome thing.

And honestly, I think Bray and Roman have good futures left too. AKA they aren't FUBAR status yet. They both have some youth and WWE can totally fix what they've broken with both of them. Bray vs Balor is gonna be fun stuff as long as they don't have Bray on the talking every show thing.

Agreed. I'd be totally down if they kept going until SummerSlam. Both teams have earned a nice spot on the a big PPV.

Yep. Both dudes can go in the ring, as their matched showed. Second half, especially. I think Roman's been pretty great since WrestleMania. I really liked his match vs. Brock, and since then, he's been just hanging around beating the shit out of dudes, which is a good spot of him. Bray, I'm still pretty bummed about where Bray has ended up. He's in this pretty boring cycle of interrupt a match out of nowhere, do the same promo where he doesn't say much over and over and then lose. I still get excited for his matches, but they've gotta do something with him.

Yep. That's kinda what I figured, but this only works if they aren't going for Taker vs Brock in Dallas. Otherwise we're gonna have another 'Paul has to carry everything' situation. Either that or Taker and Brock gotta be on shows doing shit. Right...I know...

I hate that Owens tapped tonight, but we'll see how it goes after his Cena story. There's plenty of good matches for him to have.

I don't want to see Brock-Undertaker again. I'm not even sure I want to see Undertaker wrestle anyone again. At least if he goes against Sting, that's another old dude. Putting Brock, or any of the younger dudes, in a 'Taker match is a waste to me at this point.

However, I'm really looking forward to Rollins coming out tomorrow night bragging about how he beat Brock. It's gonna be amazing.

Someone had to interrupt the match so Rollins could get by but I was shocked as anyone that it was Taker. Someone online said Taker should have come out with masked Kane (a la Brothers of Destruction bit), which might shoulda coulda been awesome.

If Taker wins then it completely wipes out EVERYTHING they've built with Brock of the last year and a half, essentially rendering Taker's broken streak and Cena getting squashed useless.

If Brock wins, well what the fuck is the point of all of this? We've already seen Brock beat Taker.

On top of that, Taker is the HEEL right now, logically. Brock beat him fair and square at WM. What does he need revenge for? He just cost Brock, the biggest babyface in the company, the WWE title and allowed one of the biggest heels to get away with the belt.

It's a heel move but it's one that makes sense. The streak was sacred ground, so it stands to reason that he'd want his revenge. Brock is in this weird half-face/half-heel place, so Taker going the same route is fine by me.

they have to make this a triple threat for the title though, right? cause there are no sensible challengers for seth unless triple h gets fed up with him and challenges.

Main events on shows like WrestleMania and Summer Slam should have matchups that are culminations of month long (or even longer) fueds, not throw together in the weeks leading up to it. I don't see them making a triple threat with Seth/Brock/Taker, so Triple H forcing his protege to prove himself is all that's left that would make sense. And with that maybe Seth can finally get a big, clean win and legitimize himself as an capable champion.

What do they think will happen there?

What Cena has done for the US title is the best thing that's happened to it since the WWE brought it back, even if it makes no sense that anyone can have a title shot.

He basically turned it to a TV title and remember how popular RVD made that in ECW

I hope they don't tone them down on Raw.

I'm most worried about Becky Lynch, it seems she will be the one who gets lost among all of these Divas.

Charlotte will get the belt first and feud with Sasha, not sure what Becky will do unless they regularly do more than 1 women's match a night which is not likely.

And by that I mean in terms of becoming nothing more than a hokey comical character for kids with the hugging gimmick.

NXT is way different in terms of how cheesy stuff gets over. Emmas dance, and Adam Rose are 2 great examples. NXT crowds are great, but aren't always a true indicator of what will happen when you take some of these gimmicks to the big show.

Dude has killed it all summer. And Summerfest is the one night a year where Jern lays on the ground and eats losses with any kind of regularity. Both the DB KENTA KNEE and Brock beatdown joints were at Summerfest.

AND

Rollins needs a killer good match and a less than ridiculously shady win bad. VERY BAD. And right now..the guy who can do that at a world title level with minimal 'real work' from WWE..is Cena.

And we have to get this Fella cash-in outta the way sometime. Having him come out to make it a triple threat later later on after some big Rollins is good enough for me.

You think Fella's cashing in this early? My guess (and I'm usually wrong) is that he cashes in on the face that beats Rollins, whenever that is.

Cena's a good match-up as you say so hopefully that's where it goes for the SummerFest (I love that caught on!)

yea ok I'm in.

Sure it makes no sense.
- it's almost two years after the Streak ended
- Taker could've cost him the title a dozen times before Battleground
- Rollins comes out looking like a total bitch
- Taker probably can't take double-digit suplexes like other guys
- they've built this monster just to job him to Undertaker? Stupid.
- SS main event SHOULD be Rollins vs Lesnar vs Reigns. Also stupid.

Look, at this point, the better use of the Undertaker would've been to have him tag with Sting against the Wyatts. THAT would've been a hot match, especially the moment Sting saves Taker, or vice versa.

But to pretend like I wasn't gassed watching that segment last night would be a lie. I don't even think it was nostalgia, I think it was just having a genuine belief that these guys want to hurt each other.

logically I shouldn't be, but this is a grudge and a half now. Sure, the match won't be a classic, but I have faith in Lesnar to make anything entertaining provided Taker doesn't get a concussion halfway through.

Now what to do with Rollins? Are they building to champ vs. champ with Cena? Cause they didn't hint at anything with HHH or throwing him in the Lesnar/Taker match. If they go the Cena route it leaves Owens, Rusev (depending on when Ziggler comes back), and Cesaro with nothing to do.

But yeah, him pinning Aitch clean to prove himself is the way to go.

Edit: which is exactly why they won't do it.
