In response to Reply # 0

Hell in a Cell
Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins
I expect some kind of fuckery (AKA Kane interference). It's hard to call the winner, but I'm thinking potentially Ambrose wins off of some kind of botched (or not-so-botched?) interference with Orton.

Hell in a Cell
Winner Gets WWE World Heavyweight Title Match
John Cena vs. Randy Orton
NEEDS to be Randy Orton. We do NOT need Lesnar/Cena for a 3rd straight time. I'm assuming WWE knows this too, and they set up a Randy/Brock program perfectly with him RKOing Heyman as well as Rollins not-so-subtly hinting that he hopes to cash in his MITB contract on him.

WWE Tag Team Championship
Gold & Stardust (c) vs. The Usos
The Dust Brothers, though I think eventually The Usos will be getting these back in order to feud with whoever the next tag team primed for the belts will be. Let me just add I hate how the tag belts are basically the same as they were in the 2006-2009 SmackDown era where a team would debut, win the belts within a few months, hold them for half a year, drop them and disappear. Remember those grease head dudes?

U.S. Championship
Sheamus (c) vs. The Miz
Who cares. The real winner of this match will of course be Mizdow. I guess Sheamus, hopefully leading to a unification feud with Cesaro?

Rusev vs. The Big Show
Rusev crush. Big Show cry. Mark Henry involved somehow.

The loser has to be the winner's personal assistant for 30 days
Nikki Bella vs. Brie Bella
Nikki. How the hell would a face having a heel for a servant be interesting at all. Should be fun to see what terrible things Nikki has Brie do over the next month, and who terribly it will be acted. Maybe she can force Brie to get hammered, go into Brie mode, cheat on Bryan and admit to herself that deep down she's not Ms. Save-The-Earth and is just as much as a skank as Nikki?

WWE Diva's Title
AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige
Really? Again? AJ Lee.

2 Out of 3 Falls Match
Intercontinental Title
Dolph Ziggler vs. Cesaro
Dolph has been made to look like a week ass champ in recent weeks. Cesaro deserves the belt but certainly needs to work on his pipe skills. With my Sheamus win prediction as well as hope for IC/US unification, I'll go with Cesaro to stay consistent.

In response to Reply # 1

I agree we are going to get an Orton vs Lesnar match, and I'm guessing Rollins costs Orton that match which can lead to them feuding through the Rumble.

Tonight maybe Orton "accidently" costs Rollins the match, or maybe just does it on purpose since he likely will have to be face to fight Lesnar anyway.

I'm excited for a Rollins vs Orton feud, I think that's a great use for both of them.

I had a little bit of shenanigans but nothing like before. I started watching an hour or so later. I enjoyed it overall.

Nikki once again was hossing it up AND giving up spectacular views. Cenawinsduh but Orton should've won via crazy RKO spots. They at least let him do what felt like 2 or so too many kickouts. Cesaro/Ziggler handled their biz by building on all of their prior matches in classic feud fashion. It would be great if WWE could pretend that it mattered, but they can't. Mizdow is just grand. Sandow should be a made man from this stuff. Rollins/Ambrose = probably the best you can do with having something look crazy without actually doing anything super duper crazy. That double HBK fall through the tables was certainly something. That finish though...no one should've okay'd. Hillbilly Jesus gets something to do though, so we'll see.

Ha! Yeah, I was a bit nervous for her while watching that. I've gotta say, the Bellas are really going for it. I lost interest in this feud in the lead up to this PPV, but I enjoyed that match a lot. I can't say I'm looking forward to a month of personal assistant storylines, but maybe they'll prove me wrong again.

In response to Reply # 12

in fact, I dare say that's what made Cena in the first place
but knowing that Vince ain't about that continuity I doubt they'll go there

(that was actually my favorite thing about SmackDown Cena, the fact that he was a heel openly challenging Lesnar, even going so far to introduce a finisher mocking the F-5 (which he still uses today)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0dNrtc1D1s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8uPhgLcNLU)

but it is something we've seen numerous times over the last decade.

I still consider Cena/Orton to be the HHH/Rock of the "modern age" but Cena/Lesnar is kind of like the Rock/Austin version of that.

They could have a good match but...they better book it right

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

You have this great feud thats gone on for so long and this was likely the payoff match and that's a pretty weak way to end this feud.

Now we will go on to Rollins vs Orton and Wyatt vs Ambrose but I don't feel satisfied.

Yeah, I think that's a fair reaction. I pretty much had the same one, but I'm super pumped for Wyatt/Ambrose and Orton/Rollins.

I felt like Rollins/Ambrose had lost some steam recently. The prop comedy stuff was hit and miss for me. They can have Rollins and Ambrose circle around each other in other feuds for a bit, and ramp that shit back up later (maybe for Mania?). And I'm a big fan of giving Wyatt something to do, and putting him in the main event. I don't know. In the moment, I was a bit disappointed another Rollins/Ambrose match was ending with a non-ending, but I'm already loving it more the more I think about it.

They may revisit it down the line, there will always be something there, but clearly we are moving on to Ambrose vs Wyatt.

I'm guessing we start to see Rollins vs Orton really ramp up tonight.

9.99 is still worth it for me, even when the PPV is bad I can entertain myself for at least a few hours a month on the network which is worth 10 bucks.

Most of it is stuff that already exists from previous DVDs and specials they have done.

I like the way they are doing it because you can also just skip around and not watch ones you don't feel like (for example, I own the Austin DVD and his episode is basically just an hour of stuff taken from that). But it was cool to watch an hour all about the Goldberg rise and fall as I had basically switched to Raw only by that point.

In response to Reply # 24

So much about it. People would never stand for some guy smashing 80 straight jobbers on Raw. Ryback was close and people got sick of him doing it pretty quickly (not to mention just considering him a Goldberg rip off).

They would also never put a guy in a match like that today knowing how bad he would look, that was just a stupid move on WCW's part, but yea if that happened today it would pretty much destroy his whole character, people would be all over social media and the internet with it and they would have to address it on TV and kill the momentum.

Anytime a wrestler starts with any kind of streak now people start talking about Goldberg, and what was also proven in his build is that once you beat that guy it's pretty much over. WWE has tried it with heels like Umaga and as soon as Cena beat them that was the end. Rusev is likely in for a similar fate. If anything Goldberg is a cautionary tale of what happens when you build a guy too fast and too strong. It was great for them in the short term and they needed the boost, but clearly the long term plan was a mess (just like everything they did in that era). Now guys have to take some early losses just so that it's not a giant ordeal when they lose big matches later.

This Fall's PPVs have been MUCH better than last Fall's, but I still hate how they insist on stalling the major storylines until the Rumble.

>HIAC Card:
>
> Hell in a Cell
>Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

Would've preferred a clean finish here. But they told a good story here. These guys hate each other, and it oozed out in every move. Looking forward to a Wyatt-Ambrose feud, but they still have a lot of work to do to make me care about Bray again.

>
>Hell in a Cell
>Winner Gets WWE World Heavyweight Title Match
>John Cena vs. Randy Orton

They tried, but no one is interested, least of all in a Cena win. About as entertaining as it could have been, and I always love a quick RKO reversal. Shouldn't have used a chair though. They knew chairs were gonna come in to play in the Ambrose match.

>
>WWE Tag Team Championship
>Gold & Stardust (c) vs. The Usos

Good match, as always, wonder what they'll do next?

>
>U.S. Championship
>Sheamus (c) vs. The Miz

Mizdow!

>
>Rusev vs. The Big Show

I'll take it. Still feels like they coulda done something much more creative here though.

>
>The loser has to be the winner's personal assistant for 30
>days
>Nikki Bella vs. Brie Bella

Solid. Booked the way it should have been. Love Nikki's brutal style honestly. She's mean as hell, and that torture rack is vicious. This feud has been wildly inconsistent. When it's serious, it's good. When it's silly, it's awful. When it's too serious, it's the worst. They had a good balance tonight.

>
>WWE Diva's Title
>AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige

Good. Now let's move on.

>

I approve of this as well.

It's Cena or the mega face they want to push at Mania whoever that is (probably Reigns)

Just hope they let him keep some of the personality he showed as a heel, but man, it's good to see him "warming up" the Meathook.

they can try to push him to the moon as a powerhouse face again, but folks are probably gonna tire of it quickly (again).

he got some boos actually during a couple spots in that match last night.

There's no main event if you can't go 20. I can't imagine sitting through a 20-minute Ryback match. Holy crap that sounds horrible.

So many strong candidates:

Lesnar - his contract expires after WM so, if he doesn't renew, will he hold it til then, plus who's the person who will ultimately take the belt from him?

Reigns - they may as well start carving his name into it cos it'd be a miracle if he doesn't get his hands on it at some point next year.

Rollins - he's done everything he needs to justify holding that briefcase - amazing worker, amazing heat, but when's he gonna cash in and will it result in a title win?

Bryan - sadly, I think he's at the bottom of this list. It didn't seem like WWE were keen on giving the belt to him in the first place and his absence has really made way for too many other names to fill the spot. Hope to be proved wrong though.

there needs to be a second major championship, even if it doesn't make sense. I was thinking about this while watching Ryback. They're re-pushing him as a face cause they need a few of those. Totally cool, and I actually got excited when he came out the other night... but now what? He'll make his way back up the ranks quickly and then either grab a midcard title that doesn't mean anything, or feud with a big heel over nothing and probably lose. Even if he wins, there's nothing to do after that. Same thing with Orton. He'll feud with the authority, and then what? Same thing for the winner of the Wyatt-Ambrose feud or Bryan when he comes back. Rollins seems to be the central unifying force that the title used to be, and that's great for him, but it doesn't give the roster much to do.

It's also forced recent former world champions into feuding over the IC and US titles, which in theory I'm fine with as long as legitimate midcarders are in the mix as well, but they're really not. Plus, Ziggler keeps losing anyway and no one cares about Sheamus.

sometimes I feel if he didn't absolutely SUCK from all angles, WWE would have put the World Title on The Masterpiss Chris Masters.

Sheamus is "cool" but he really was an over elevated midcarder IMO, he has an unforgettable look and a couple of good finishers but he is so mired in gimmickry that if not for Vince Logic he would have never been elevated

I don't quite see him the same as Cena, Orton, Lesnar even Punk...

(how bad is it that the first three mentioned were essentially big names of the previous decade)

Caught the first episode and it was a lot better than I expected. There's a lot of familiar names: John Morrison, Chavo Guererro, Konnan. Matt Striker and Vampiro handle commentary. The wrestling is set in an NXT-sized soundstage with an "underground"/kumite look.

The first episode did a good job distinguishing the promotion from WWE. They use a lot more different camera angles including a pretty dope overhead camera. The wrestling's a lot quicker - feels like the cruiserweight matches from Nitro. Striker and Vampiro do a good job of selling the moves on commentary and providing context for all of the wrestlers. They even took a few jabs at WWE - "You won't find any 6 year olds in bright colored t-shirts here!"

I'm not sure if I'm feeling heavily produced Metastsis-style vignettes to progress the storylines though. Maybe it'll grow on me but I prefer a more "sports" style presentation.

It feels like an actual alternative wrestling program instead of the wwe lite feel of tna, which I've basically stopped watching. Sure, we still get the evil owner deal but I'm good for now. And if it gets Puma to a higher level, bonus.

Just finished E3. Between this and NXT, there's finally some stuff on that I don't have to feel like a moron for watching.

Not only is the action great, but these promotions work as *shows* as well. Something Raw hasn't done in a long time.

In response to Reply # 0

The guy is limited, but it's clear he's got *something* crowds gravitate toward and they're doing a sound job rebuilding him back to where he was during his feud with Punk.

Last week heavily featured Ziggler, though Orton still got the lions share. This week, Ryback drew the long straw and carried the show. The whole episode centered on Ryback and they made him look like a million bucks from start to finish. Granted, the storytelling was trash- seriously, what a shitty recruitment effort- but the net effect was powerful.

The end starts out with the usual clusterfuck of endless run-ins, but it looks like their working hard to put some guys over, Ryback in particular. It would be great if Cesaro were involved in this somehowbut whatever. Other than Show/Henry everyone has a solid build coming in. Cena is... well, Cena. Whatever.

-Sheamus is doing his typically Awesome Hoss routine and was booked strong in a loss to Rusev Crush. I know his *character* is fucking dead but damn if the man isn't one of the best workers there is in WWE. Fortunately for him the WWE is brimming with quality big men.

-Rusev is the only guy as protected as Rollins. He's a true monster and I've gotta say he's growing on me as a worker. I just wish he had an actual character. As an aside, I'm betting he gets fed to Reigns get him over enough to tackle Brock at Mania, if rumors of that main event are to be believed.

-Rollins really is Mr. MITB. It's a damn shame Punk's gone because a prolonged feud between these two would be fucking insane. Given the time, that could give all-timers like HBK/Jericho and Savage/Page a serious run. As it stands I'm salivating over the upcoming feud with Orton, who might be the one guy who is truly at his best when in Full Tweener mode. Take that, J.R. Anyhow, Rollins is hot as ever and making him the captain of this thing is great.

-Dolph just took the Uncle Phil like a champ. Seriously, holy shit.

-Luke Harper!!!!!!!!! Shit just got real. I'm genuinely excited to see this match now.

Fantasy book: I'm hoping The Authority has a screw job victory firmly in hand and Orton shows up to RKO everyone in sight en route to a Team Cena victory.

I think they had a golden opportunity to use Brock to really make Ryback at Mania 29. Ryback wasn't quite ready at the time, but I pitched the idea of using that to the benefit of the story by going with a "Rocky III" template and I still think that's the way to sell it.

Ryback challenges Brock and thinks he'll mow through Brock like he does everyone else, Brock destroys him and Ryback realizes that while he's beaten some great competition, Brock is on a higher level entirely and he underestimated him. He knows he has to push himself harder and all that Jazz.

Basically you sell it using the same sort of vignettes they used to sell Hart/Michaels, showing their training regimens while giving us a good month or two of interview segments leading into the match.

I personally think there's a great story to be told on that template, and frankly I'd use the same template for Reigns, with the addition of playing up the Anoa'i legacy and Rock basically being his Apollo Creed.

i'd guess a ziggler turn to secure an authority win, but wouldn't be surprised by this. although if the authority loses i'd guess they won't stay out of power very long.

It really does. I'm getting to the point where I'm gonna watch Lucha Underground, NXT, and PPVs. Raw and Smackdown...I think I'm gonna keep recording and only watching something y'all or Best and Worst point out something...like the 3-way from Ziggler Please, Cesaro (buried), and Tyson Kidd. I need to get on that.

I grew up on the late 80's/early 90's stuff so I've been wanting to get this forever.

in every sport (i know it's sports entertainment)..hell in every field of entertainment. you want the best. actor, mma, basketball, writer...u want a ring, belt, title, emmy, grammy, pulitzer.

that's what u work for

in pro wrestling,t he rule has been..champion must defend every 30 days.
so now we go the titles that are defended 2-3 times a week. and no one cares. u almost don't even know whot he chamipons are

IC and US champ lose steadily on tv, and that guys that beat them,, never mention wanting the belt

then you have the LEAD title, not beign defended for 2-3 months.

realistically a wrestler should either A. be screaming for brock to defend that title

or

B. be trying to take the IC, US title

two of the best female wrestlers in wwe are black, but we got no talent twins fighting ..and a tiny women's champ.

and i'm sick of the black funky dancing call my momma gimmicks....they don't even change the theme song.

broke up two over teams ...... u take two guys form their teams...then put those two dudes in another team.

y'all know 3mb and and PTP were better /more entertaining than slater gator.

and no athlete in his right mind is gonna give up a title like henry did with big show, just cause he hates a guy (austin/hbk, anyone?...rock n sock) just escapes logic. i know it's entertainment, but damn...don't piss on ALL the rules.

the writers need to be fired for this mess. vince needs his as whupped. and i NEVER say sh*t like that

Vince losing all that Geld on the stock market was like the Pepsi Fire... I have a feeling that it'll never be completely functional

they don't elevate their young talent
they have the most fucked up title picture (like you said, you don't even hear guys GAF about a title)
the mid-card is a joke with an even more fucked up title picture
and the constant rehashes of Flash Fucking Funk need to STOP. have they ever seen a Black person since the age of the Jheri Curl?

(side note: I appreciate Booker T nowadays way more than ever. I always did appreciate dude, but for the most part, he has kept it "authentically Black" minus the gimmickry. like aside from the hilarity of King Booker, he resisted the "Flash Funkin" hardcore)

Do they not look at the absolute basics of what worked during their boom-times?

Do they need a "WCW" for them to battle for them to put out some real effort?

I dunno.

WWE is just one of those emblems of today's buy-all-your-competition-and-provide-the-illusion-of-consolidated-utility economy.

Definitely worth to do the same or wait until somebody makes a synched version like they did with Austin/Rock WM17.

WWE Network should seriously consider doing a series with this kind of material. I've loved both Austin podcasts where he disects a match and some of my favorite parts of Bret Hart's book were the pieces where he narrates a match and explains both the psychology and the happenings in the ring (who is saying what, fuck ups, etc)

I actually think that Austin should do this type of thing with some of his guests when he's able to get relevant people in the same room so they could both watch and commentate too.

really good if you watch the match in-sync with it.

loved the introspection/psychology of still maintaining a heel entrance ("don't touch me, you POS"), despite the fans having already started to cheer for him leading up to the event.

also his and bret's discussion on how they were gonna set up for the sharpshooter. both guys definitely stole the show... does anyone even remember the sid/taker main event?

104. "RE: Wrestling Post: Survivor Series"
In response to Reply # 0

1. Survivor Series Match: Team Cena vs. Team Authority – if Team Authority loses, they’re not longer in charge. If Team Cena loses, they’re fired.

2. Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose

3. Divas Championship Match: AJ Lee (c) vs. Nikki Bella

4. Tag Team Championship Fatal 4 Way: Goldust and Stardust (c) vs. The Usos vs. The Miz and Damien Mizdow vs. Los Matadores

5. Survivor Series Match: Alicia Fox, Naomi, Natalya and Emma vs. Paige, Cameron, Layla and Summer Rae

Well...this is a 'call the swerve' show. I'm caught up on the Cena dudes selling him out bigtime. Orton showing up is awesome depending on what he does even if I'm not super shocked. The rest of this stuff...it'll be better than it looks written down, but we'll see.

Really not a lot of star power in that main event either, even though they tried to load it up the best they can, based on what they have.

Ambrose-Wyatt....I want to be excited but Wyatt's matches are usually underwhelming.

Tag match should be cool.

I'll be surprised if this doesn't completely suck. They badly needed Brock on here, they also need Orton, and really could've used Jericho too.

I can't get excited for this tag match. And the matches that they might throw in there will probably involve Adam Rose and Fandango... ugh.

edit: Fandango's match is happening... UGGGGHHHHH

Nikki, quiet has kept, is turning into one hell of a hoss, and AJ is the best main-roster worker among the Divas (assuming that this isn't her farewell, as rumored, and she's motivated).

I hope they have Miz carry around both tag titles and Mizdow come out with two other titles. Make 'em toy ones, like when Miz was intercontinental champ or something.

I really liked how those two played with the crowd reaction to them tonight, also. Those dudes know exactly what they're doing.

Like he hit him with 2-3 chair shots, and put him through a table. Cool.

Then pulled out another table, and like 10 more chairs, and a ladder.....and climbed to the top of the ladder....and.....nothing?

The fuck? How they gonna present these guys as lunatics and psychos when they don't even do anything crazy? Shit's so tame and boring. "Crazy" characters are completely pointless if that's as wild as they get, even on a PPV.

Hate to be the hater, but I think an Orton or especially a Daniel Bryan would've actually gotten a bigger pop there. But we'll see where Sting goes, if Hunter gets one good match out of him at Mania then cool.

for WM 28... the day after WM 27.

It's never too early to set up the big money show of the year. But that assumes the old man knows what matches he's going with.

the only sting i ever saw was crow sting in wcw and i was like 5 then. i was blown first time i saw the shit from before those days.

i wouldn't expect anyone below like 14 to really know who sting is unless they watched TNA. and that era sting was just unfortunate.

Maybe not with the youngest crowd, but overall I think it worked and it's a little different now with youtube, WWE network, video games, etc. keeping old stuff far more alive than it used to be.

Imagine it's 1994 and they are trying to bring back someone who was last huge in the 1970's in another company. LOL. Wouldn't have worked at all.

Blond flat top Sting was the GOAT imo

Way ahead of the curve for the high impact athleticism that defines today, yet had more technical ability than 95% of all heavyweight champs in the last 25 years.

Dude could do it all, and never once insisted on his own invulnerability like Hogan. He knew that him losing to Flair or Vader would provide an emotional experience for fans that was more powerful than him winning again.

He was also a great tag wrestler. There are some Japanese matches with him teamed up with Road Warrior Hawk and Kensuke Sasaki that looked like they had been doing it for years.

Yep.

GOAT.

I can't believe it, I thought he would be a face forever!

The way he really builds himself up as a face or heel before turning is legendary, he spends so long developing a character just to turn way down the road when nobody see it coming and he has really earned it.

I don't think anyone cares about Jack Swagger for instance. If he disappeared no one would even notice.

No one cares about Kofi Kingston
No one cared about Alberto Del Rio
No one cares about Kane

Somehow, the biggest guy on the roster is the ultimate "no one cares" guy. It's fascinating how Big Show is consistently so irrelevant.

Between that RAW focusing on what team he’d choose, the incredible level of heart he showed tonight, and what amounts to a big-time rub from Sting, all they’ve successfully built him into the clear cut #2 babyface.

He doesn’t have a “YES!” style movement or any gimmicks to ride out, but the crowd genuinely loves the man. Now is the perfect time to put him in the main event scene and keep him there. They’ll print money with his merch if they showcase him right.

Like you said though, this is WWE and he could very well be jobbing to Slator Gator tonight.

but I'll take it. I think I've mentioned this before, but they really need to split the titles again. Ziggler is bigger than the IC title now, but there's no WHC for him to go after. Can you really see him chasing Lesnar? Nah. They won't give him that.

Hell I wouldn’t even call it a gimmick. I would say to give him unscripted mic time, but that’s a pipedream.

The music just works to me now and it’s strongly associated for me. It just kind of fits.

They built up Lesnar to be a little too strong for anyone but Reigns if you ask me.

and for a while it meant "look at me be impressive whilst losing." The music is just too generic. It is very associated with him, but I don't think it really helps his pop. You can intro a new (good) song at any point really. HHH is a good example. He's now got his wrestling song, his leader song, an evolution song, and an authority song. They're all pretty effective if you ask me.

>They built up Lesnar to be a little too strong for anyone but
>Reigns if you ask me.

Agreed. I think Bryan could be built up enough to do it, but he'd have to return at the Rumble and I don't think that's happening.

I think to judge this one properly you have to remember the Fall PPVs of last year, especially Survivor Series. A year ago they ended with a Big Show-Orton slopfest. They treaded water all fall and they largely haven't done that this year. This one advanced the storylines, which usually makes me happy. As I said, not perfect, but at least it surprised me.

Ambrose vs. Wyatt: This was perfect booking until Ambrose pulled out the ladder and did nothing with it. Makes no sense for him to say "See you at TLC" when he's a guy who gets shit done now. Wyatt got in the way of his revenge, so he should be handing Wyatt his ass. It makes sense that he would go further than Cena or Bryan ever would in their feuds. Ambrose wouldn't bring out the chairs for Wyatt, but once Wyatt introduces them Ambrose will absolutely get disqualified. Still, that ending is hard to ignore. Him going crazy with tables and chairs is great... so he sets up a ladder and just climbs it???

AJ vs. Nikki: "Hey, did everyone hate when Daniel Bryan lost like this? Let's do lot again!" -WWE logic. They've made a couple references to this ending over the past couple years, but those were fake-outs. Why would they think pulling the trigger would be cool? To give AJ lee her comeuppance on that years later when people have forgot about it already. Plus: "Oh, everyone thinks Brie is gonna turn on Nikki? Then let's have her join her in evilness." Like I said, at least they surprised me. And after a long divas match earlier I wanted to get to the main event quick.

Divas Survivor match: Last year I complained everyone was laying down after one move, and that is worse, but I wish they'd just get rid of this match. Especially if they're not gonna do any real build-up.

Tag match: Good match that I wasn't originally excited for, and I got the ending I wanted.

Adam Rose and Bunny vs. Slater-Gator: presumably this PPV was free because they want to push the network for the casual fan... and this is how they want to show the current product? Jesus. Save this for Main Event/Superstars.

Team Cena vs. Team Authority: I'll just get this out of the way: Burying Ryback and Henry was dumb (though I don't care much about Henry). but let's be honest, the real alternative here was CENAWINSLOL. Him knocked out earlyish is always good. And I like that he went down after ONE finisher. When was the last time that happened? Daniel Bryan? Once Ziggler had overcome the odds to beat Harper and Kane i was fine with any ending here. I just hope the Ziggler push is real.

We kinda got a Rollins/Ziggler main event. This is the type of stuff the innanet asks for but usually doesn't get. Cena got knocked out and I was Black Rob. Then Ziggler did the classic Steamboat face comeback. Not that Hulk Up/Cenawinslol stuff. A comeback. Pulling reversals out of his ass. Defiantly kicking out. Surviving the cheating. Lucking into situations to get his moves in and being smart enough to take them. All that good stuff. All set up and sold wonderfully by all parties involved (and yeah...Rollins is the shit). And we haven't seen it a thousand times so it worked.

And Sting showing up was grand. Walking slow with new music and looking old...who gives a shit. It is Sting showing up at an important time to do something good. Word. Wrestling shit. I grew up on NWA and WWF. And I get that Flair and nem won a lot, and it framed my love and borderline sympathy towards heels. But don't get it twisted. The good guys winning at the end after having to fight/work for it is still why this shit is watchable. It becomes lame when the good guy only has to take a whooping on a random Raw before getting back up. AKA the late 80s WWF Hogan days and the whole pre-NWO WCW Hogan. Dude was gonna win. And it was obvious. And it wasn't fun. And folks boo'd his ass. Even back then. Isn't that the whole issue with Cena? Don't say dude can't go in the ring. The Rock was easily worse and crippled SCSA was more limited. Cena is like Super Duper Lex Luger..good opponent = good matches.

And as much as I wanna like a black stable, I can't convince myself
this is anything but straight corn. All three of these guys are cornballs, those outfits are corny, and the gimmick is corny as shit.

I'd like to think they're trotting something out this lame to deliberately turn the crowd against them and then turn them heel, but we all know that's far too sophisticated and nuanced than the WWE is capable of in 2014.

These guys are goofballs, so NoD 2.0 wouldn't work for them, IMO. One dude came in with a fake Jamaican accent, one made funny Vines with Kaitlyn, the other screams "IT'S MORPHIN' TIME!!" during his matches. They'd have to be incredible actors to convince they're black and militant.

As it is, I don't see this group going any higher than 3MB or the Job Squad, unfortunately.

I'm amazed about the things he was saying regarding working through injuries, etc. I really thought those days were long behind WWE where guys were pushed to work through pain as severe as that.

I really think wrestling - and wrestlers - would have been better off if it had been a seasonal sport. Full-time is more than someone should be asked to cope with I think.

If only to hear him tell his story, in his voice.

And yeah, I'm sure niggas will think he's delusional and whiny or whatever, but he's actually as honest about the company and the guys and girls as he thinks he can be.

And ultimately this is less about CM Punk's troubles than it is confirming and also damning a lot of what's been reported regarding the behind-the-scenes politics and mentality of the company.

Recaps ain't gonna do this shit justice, b.

Brock is "Special Attraction" status

Austin was not during his run

They kept the foot on the gas at the time because they were going up against WCW, so they had to keep feeding the audience all Austin, all the time

Plus The Rock

There's no competition now, so there's no need to throw Brock in everybody's faces on a weekly basis.

Even though it's Stone Cold and they promised nothing would be off-limits, it's still the Network so I thought it would be fluff. Not the case at all, and I'm really glad. Vince seems to be fine with it too, extended the interview 15 minutes.

Although Vince referenced the last time he was fired I do feel that there's more to WWE's treatment of him than he said. They never miss an opportunity to embarrass, humiliate or mock him and Ross has even said they refuse to authorise any WWE affiliate to appear on his podcast which sounds a bit harsh.

Would have been curious to have Vince address the Batista/Bryan/WM situation too.

Not sure how I'd be feeling right now if I was Cesaro - was probably a bad idea for Steve to mention wrestlers by name in that instance although I appreciate what he was doing. I do think Cesaro caught a really unlucky deal - he was very over after WM but while he was getting cheered they paired him with Heyman who was doing all he could to get boo'ed so it wasn't a union that made sense and unfortunately ended up hurting him in the process.

The Rock.

Vince seemed to dance around some of the questions, but it was still interesting.

And I don't know if he'd sound so conciliatory towards Punk had he actually listened to the interview, but it was still surprising to hear him apologize for what happened.

Cool spot of the night was Vince playing the "Wrap it up? Nah, b, I own this shit, so we going long" card.

I'm not a wrestling fan in the slightest, but that sounds like it would be an interesting listen. I wonder if Vince is trying to motivate through hate to borrow a phrase from Star from Star and Bucwild fame by spewing hate or disdain on the roster.

He has always had the same mentality, but at some point he just stopped accepting that what he thinks works and what the fans want are different things.

He said nobody has grabbed the brass ring since Cena totally ignoring all of the self made superstars who he either tried to ignore for as long as he could but still treated like crap (Bryan, Punk) or guys who got themselves over enough to be solid midcard/upper midcard guys that he just buried because he didn't like it (Cesaro, Ryder- who is the epitome of grabbing the ring and making something out of nothing).

Basically if you are not who Vince thinks the fans want to see you will never convince him otherwise.

i mean, there's sensitivity around Regulation FD and what not.

but from another look at their Q3 statements, i guess technically the old man's right: they lost 250K subscribers, but added 286K...

they were at 731K, so that free november month might get them to that 1MM number on the year they projected some time ago (even if there's folks like me who canceled the last day of the month and didn't get charged).

hot fudged numbers.

And then they grabbed me and they stressed 'but you gotta make Roman look really, really strong.' And I was like 'no, I was just going to fucking shit on 'em and beat 'em. I was just going to tear through them and fucking Superman the shit out of them and GTS all three of them at the same time.' I was like 'yeah, I get it, okay.'

So while we're putting the match together, every two minutes somebody new is coming up to me. 'Hey, you've gotta make him look really strong.' So I got so sick of Michael Hayes, and everybody else coming up to me, people who weren't even involved in the match 'hey, you're making him look really strong, right?' And I finally said 'you know what? You know what would make them look really strong? If they beat me.' Because three guys can't beat one guy. That's fucking dumb. 'But no, Vince wants you to go over.' 'Okay.' 'But you gotta make 'em look...' 'God damn it! I fucking get it! I know how to do the job, shut the fuck up. But if one more... I'm just going to fucking put 'em over. That's it. I'm going to put them over, and then they're going to look really strong, and then you're going to be happy, right?' 'Well, no, because they want you to go over. But you have to make them look strong.' It's just a mentality."

lmao

one of the dudes is an older cat who was into more of the classic territorial wrestling, the other is one closer to my own age that has more or less the same wrestling viewing history, and a lot to say about WWE's current state

- 1: NJPW is going to have a PPV broadcast in the States with Jim Ross ringside

- 2: NJPW is going to have HD feeds of their programming on DirectTV AXS channel

like... whoa, Japanese wrestling officially in the States? Damn.

they were talking about current WWE and kind of mirror a lot that I read here, particularly about Vince.

that Austin podcast was fuckin' hilarious but sad at the same time...

Some of the wrestling is pretty sloppy, but it's still fast-paced and exciting. I'm not even crazy about the main heels, but it's amazing what clear storylines will do for you. You know, ones that are planned out in advance and aren't dropped abruptly. And an hour-long program really ensures little, if any, filler.

Although some of the mid-card luchadores are boring to me (Son of Havok? Hope you didn't hurt yourselves thinking of that one), its a pretty good, fat-free wrestling show.

i'm sure they'll introduce the concept sooner rather than later to keep johnny mundo down, but it's still worth noting because WWE is has their champ on leave and they're achieving mixed results at best. I think they can pull it off with some tweaks, as I've pointed out before, but Vince seems too out-if-touch to pull those off.

If they didn't have the network, I'd pretty much be not dealing with WWE much. AKA the Network is still great and awesome.

MNF is already enough of an excuse to not expend too much time on this super brutal run of Raws. I flip over when MNF is at halftime or on commercial, hope to see something that isn't terrible or some Bella/AJ/somebody hotness, then flip away as soon as I see Cena, Kane, New Day or any of the tag folks wrestling each other AGAIN. I'm gonna have to make myself get up on TLC this weekend. This is the first time in the WWE network PPV era where I'm not sweating a PPV to the degree that I might not even try to watch it the night of.

I'll catch the PPVs when it works out, especially make sure to see the big ones.

I like watching a lot of the documentary style stuff on the network, it's worth $10 a month to me as I use it as much as I use netflix. I read results each Tuesday so I know the storylines, but Raw is just not worth those 3 hours these days.

>The Rumble is in Philly...

They are ready to rewrite their shit two months before the show again. Because I could see Reigns getting a dump-truck of boos/hate depending on how rough things go from now until the Rumble. Some folks have been being done with him since his push started being 'obvious' and his matches haven't been blazing. And the CM Punk (who is soooo super duper mad, you know) stuff about the brass wedging Reigns into the Shield instead of someone else Phil wanted does NOT help. At all.

And even if you think Punk can be a...well...Punk sometimes, it seems pretty clear that HHH and/or Vince didn't do him right. And the whole narrative of him not being thought of as much during his early days carries the current status to an even more terrible place. Dude carried some summers, had a grip of outlandishly good matches, filled in some hellafied blanks, etc. That has to count for something. Hopefully they didn't think everyone was there for only Cena...right! Haha..wha...riiight?

But I think for most people when they really started to push him hard pre injury just started to realize his interview skills lacked and his ring work was pretty basic, 3 big moves. He did very little 1 on 1 matches and most of his work was in 6 man matches to kind of hide his ring work.

Then seeing that he is just getting pushed to the moon because of his size when we have clearly seen the 2 other shield members are the real stars has annoyed people.

Rumble is a long time ago, plenty of time to sour on a wrestler from there.

is going to be supremely awesome. I swear man...Zayn is gonna be hella huge when he goes to the main show if they don't go out of their way to ruin it. *Thinks about WWE idiocy, becomes very afraid*

Real talk...in about 3 years, WWE might be indy paradise. Even if all of the dudes (Rollins, Ambrose, all of the best NXT dudes, etc) are all stuck in the midcard cuz Cena/Orton/Reigns are somehow still hogging the top of the card in spite of the whole earth turning on them, that midcard is gonna be killing shit in the ring.

If WWE really becomes 5 foot 10 wrestling ass wrestler indy paradise, mad as hell super mad Phil will try to come back to get in on it..probably.

I assume Zayn is fine because he's been around the world with those dudes and they take care of each other.

Finn Balor's entrance was amazing. That was some Wrestlemania shit. I think they need to tweak his mannerisms a bit because it was a bit too Stardust for me. He should come out like a beast unleashed when he has the paint on. And for the love of god don't beat it in the ground like they do most things that catch on. It is funny how all of the new guys come in with their own moves along with a few stolen/borrowed things from feds/folks they left. Finn is up on it too now with the heavy 'I'm wearing paint so now I'm Evil Great Muta' stuff. And yea...I'm saying Stardust is biting off Muta.

Still, Finn and KENTA are pretty much cool as hell even if the double stomp isn't something I'm in love with as a main move for anyone. Kenta looks fuggin small though. I want to believe that it matters less than ever now, but shiiid...Cena has about 3-5 years left. He isn't above selling for anyone, which is cool, but Vince and them are gonna be the ones hatin. Maybe my 'WWE will be indy paradise in 3 years' theory will come true and we'll be watching awesome as hell matches and Rollins will be damn near the biggest main guy outside of the 'my gimmick is that I'm big' dudes like Henry, Kane, Show, etc. And Sheamus and Reigns will be the new versions of those guys, which is potentially great because they are more athletic and will be able to go with some of the smaller cats with some help/inspiration to not get left behind like Hogan did in WCW. Optimism?

Right. He's gonna be a mechanic that won't 'matter' unless he good matches his way to a better spot. That or he ends up a part of a faction or a faction's foil.

granted, i haven't watched the week-to-week stuff for NXT, but the special events definitely come across as culmination of well-written characters and storylines. While I'm a big fan of the recent PPVs, those have basically been WWE fixing everything they fuck up on Raw and Smackdown.

Folks get treated like they are important (even if they pretty much aren't).

And because there's no Cena/HHH/Taker/Lesnar upper crust on NXT to show up and say 'nah...I'M important!' and create an obvious separation, it is much easier to buy into. Then, we get to this crazy place where the show is A DAMN WRESTLING SHOW, the matches 'matter' because there's not nearly as many Cena-style auto-win situations, the best stories are easy to buy into, and the wrestling ass wrestlers are a lock to end up in main events. And guess what...if the best wrestlers are involved in the biggest stories and get to have the most important matches...crazy crazy! The show will be good!

And even when there's a 'waiting game', it gets sold as a 'road' or a 'journey'. And because NXT hasn't screwed us a bunch of times with a stream of guys winning in spots where they 'should've' lost, we are more patient with 'roads', so they get to tell the whole story. As a result, we all feel better about the payoffs, and we come away with a better feeling about the matches, wrestlers, and shows. Imagine that.

I felt wrestling nerd overload watching Zayn almost fuck off and lose that title match. AKA I was all in on the story and the match...I fuggin wanted El Generico to win the NXT title. And after all of that, he eats a Funk to Flair betrayal/whooping from sensible dinner-eating Kevin Steen/Owens? And dude threw a powerbomb to the apron on day one? Sign me all the way up.

Part of it is ratings don't matter so they never have to say oh not ratings stink put Cena back on TV.

A lot of it is what you said to, everyone is important, even NXT main eventers are not above anyone else on the card.

262. "Can Wyatt even win a feud?"
In response to Reply # 0

This isn't just another complaint about his booking, but a huge flaw in his character. As you guys know, he's a great talker who rarely gets into specifics, but when he does it's clear that his main goal is to break the good guys. He has yet to really do that. Kane just disappeared for a while and then joined the authority. We thought he broke Bryan, but that was a swerve. And I had to remind my roommate that he technically won that feud. The memorable moment was Bryan on top of the cage. Wyatt basically couldn't top that. Then the all-important Cena feud... Ugh.

I think he'll win tonight and win the overall feud because similar to Bryan last year, Ambrose can lose and not really lose momentum. But also similar to Daniel Bryan, if he doesn't change Ambrose whatsoever, who cares*? Wyatt's gained ZERO followers in a year and a half, and lost two. Why should I give a shit about this character?

Man, he REALLY needed to win that Cena feud. It's pretty clear how much that hurt him.

*Ambrose is a good enough actor that he could come up with a subtle change in his character after losing this feud. But I doubt they really think about things that deeply.

one of the best characters they've come up w/ in a minute and that Cena feud destroyed him. the streets were totally behind him in that feud and it would've been great development for Cena too.

in a perfect world he would've terrorized all the top faces starting with Cena. the problem is there's just a total lack of top level faces because i'd him make another run Bryan following the Cena but he was injured to get a real feud win over him. and then Ziggler? i guess he's the #3 face in the company.

shit he could've been the guy to dismantle The Authority if they wanted him to be someone you cheered for by the logic WWE writers use. people cheer him regardless though because he's too likeable.

cause like you said, he's run out of faces. there's really just ziggler and reigns. i guess getting a belt against ziggler (if he wins it back) would SORTA help, but he seems above the IC title, as he should be. And Ziggler is hot enough where they probably don't want to ruin it (but hey, it's WWE). they definitely wouldn't let reigns lose a feud. he's in a precarious spot of being very popular and being the next-in-line but he's becoming less and less believable as a character every time he's on the mic.

^^^^^^^ the fact that the authority never took him on, when he was wreaking havoc and doing whatever he wanted, makes ZERO sense whatsoever. they basically debuted around the same time too.

In response to Reply # 0

All WWE talent and producers and TV production people are currently all set for WWE TLC tonight in Cleveland.

I'm told tensions are at a fever pitch and have been all day. Many guys on the card tonight want to go out of their way to be the match of the night. The feeling is that a small company rivalry has started between the main roster and the NXT roster. Many agree that is good for all sides involved.

What is usually a lighter atmosphere many hours before doors open is not the case today. I'm told that it is very quiet backstage and that talent is very focused on the show tonight. They know the NXT show is going to be considered "show of the year" among many and they want this TLC show to rival or top it.

Many of the main matches have already been rehearsed. There was a giant black curtain covering the ringside area so nobody outside of the main players know what is going to happen tonight.

---

i pity them if they really think they can pull out a Show of the Year level effort w/ the crap-ass lead up work they have done.
