"Yo, how does Colin Herd have a show?"

First time watching his show this evening and I'm completely lost.
He made a point about ESPN wanting ratings on the west coast so they hired him to host.
Niggas on the west coast like this guy?
I'm sure he's a good guy and everything but I'm not understanding the appeal.
There was a moment in the show where I just asked myself "what is this even about?".
Its like they just sent a dude on air who is flying by the seat of his pants.
Is this what they mean by white privilege?

He's basically the bill maher of sports radio. Says
some asshole-ish things, and any demographic can get it.
Really, he's more of a progressive social libertarian.

He also was one of the first voices in big-sports media
to point out the White entitlement of Dan Gilbert and his
reaction to Leborn leaving Cleveland.

The John Wall thing is a tad ridiculous because people
take those comments in a vacuum and ignore all of his other
commentary. People need to be unabashedly honest far more
than they are, particularly the white media which tends
to be either O'Reilly'd out w/ overt entitlement, or
neutered in perspective and walking on egg-shells every
second so as to not offend anybody or anything.

Colin is just your prototypical asshole...At times he even shits on hardcore conservatives because it clashes with his libertarian streak...

However....I will say this...That John Wall attack was on some bullshit. It was tinged with that classic FOX-driven Racism...He even said the same thing about Derrick Rose (that players without a father usually do not make strong team leaders...)...

Nah dog...Fuck a vacuum...That was some bullshit anyway u slice it...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

and because of his whole persona, who will take
a story - or a comment - beyond the borderline -
just to be sensational. I don't like that aspect
of him.

But my point is this: If you look at Cowherd's body
of work/commentary on a variety of issues, he's actually
one of the smartest and more progressive minds in the entire
sports-radio sphere (which admittedly is pretty luke-warm
in terms of dynamic intelligence). Another thing about
Cowherd is he admits mistakes - or when he said something
that wasn't right. He once went at Arian Foster too hard
for his unorthodox philosophies, was called out by Arian
and ethered embarrassingly, and then a couple weeks later
apologized and always speaks highly of Foster. He's not
afraid of being 'wrong' - and often learns from being wrong,
as he needs to learn why his Wall comments were trash.

I'll take that intellectually honest commentator anyday
over the guy who's just generically spouting off points
that he doesn't even really believe in.

I will listen to the dude from time to time if nothing else is on...Once in a while he will spit some truth...But most of the time he seems too desperate to be viewed as the "holy shit...he actually said that???" guy....

That Wall/Rose shit turned me off....Because it was completely personal and type racist...Like who questions a player's character because he does a fucking dance in the huddle as a rookie and was raised by his mother? I'm glad fans and his media breathren came down on him hard and made him slow down on that bullshit...Cuz he was doing way too much with that...

And for folks who have no idea what we are talking about here, here's a refresher....I will be the first to admit that Cowherd has gotten better...But the smell of this racist bullshit below still lingers...

Washington Post.com (2010)
Colin Cowherd now doesn't like John Wall's dad
By Dan Steinberg

John Wall had an ok game Wednesday night. Triple-double. Crazy dunk. One turnover. Home win.

This meant a couple things to radio host Colin Cowherd.

1) Time to brag about how many people paid attention last time he ripped Wall. He said he got more than a dozen e-mails about Wall within 10 minutes after Wednesday's game ended.

"Why do I host a radio show? That's why. Wednesday night, irrelevant NBA game, people in D.C. rushed to their computers. You have an opinion on John Wall. Mines's not yours. I don't want him as my long-term future."

2) Time to again talk about the Dougie, making him the only person in America (besides me) still talking about it.

"He's gonna be a fast break of 1, he's not gonna be a lot-of-titles guy, he's not gonna be that guy....Just because I don't jump into the hype fest of the Kentucky media to the D.C. media, who have an agenda, an emotional conviction toward him? Sorry. But I hated the Dougie. It's absurd, it's not what leaders do in any industry, it's childish, it's bad judgment, and I don't care if the guy at the arena told you to do the Dougie. I hated it."

3) Time to rip on John Wall's dead father.

"Let me tell you something: I'm a big believer, when it comes to quarterbacks and point guards. Who's your dad? Who's your dad? Because I like confrontational players, I don't like passive aggressive. Strong families equal strong leaders. Talent? Overrated. Leadership? Underrated. And you can say, well, Colin, can you just go out and say anything crazy and get people to e-mail. That's not the point. You wouldn't e-mail if I was an idiot, because you wouldn't listen to the show. You listen to the show because we make good points.

"I simply have a different opinion than you do on John Wall. I like the character of Derek Fisher, the rebounding and distribution ability of Rajon Rondo, that's what I like. That's what I want from my point guards. You celebrate the assists more than the buckets.....I know he's great. So don't confuse John Wall's no good. No, John Wall's an A+ talent. I don't think he's ever gonna be an A+ win-championships point guard."

Who's your dad? Pure class.

(As Chris Littmann and others have noted, Rondo's father left his family when he was 7.)

(Some have suggested that Cowherd meant "Who's your team's dad," as in, who's your team's leader. If so, I would take this back. But Cowherd returned to the family issue later, and seemed to reinforce my original interpretation.

"One of the things I've always knocked against Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Derrick Rose has a passive-aggressive personality. He's not confrontational. What does that mean? That's not a good husband, and it's not a good point guard, and it's not a good CEO. They have brain types. And people who test for brain types knew that Peyton Manning would be much more successful than Ryan Leaf, because of Peyton Manning's family background and his confrontational style. Derrick Rose pouts, gets moody, is passive-aggressive. I'm not a fan of Derrick Rose as my point guard. Rajon Rondo? Very confrontational. Argues with Doc Rivers, argues with teammates, argues with officials. I love that in my point guard. Magic would yap, Manning yaps, Brees yaps, Brady yaps, McNabb yaps. I want guys who are confrontational."

Later still, he sort of linked Wall with Michael Vick, for no particular reason.

"You know, John Wall and Vick are very similar. I"m not disputing their talent. I mean, Michael Vick and John Wall are fun to watch. But building my franchise around him, leadership position? I'm not giving Vick four-year deals, I'm not giving him $40 mil. No way. No. Way."

So I'm not totally sure what any of this means any more. I give up.)

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Sound familiar, OKS? Lol.

I always thought of him as Jim Rome with 0 sense of humor, but still found him entertaining even though he's his share of loud and wrong.

Although it sounds like you're describing a TV show and not radio...it's very possible that he would not translate well to TV.

>First time watching his show this evening and I'm completely
>lost.
>He made a point about ESPN wanting ratings on the west coast
>so they hired him to host.
>Niggas on the west coast like this guy?
>I'm sure he's a good guy and everything but I'm not
>understanding the appeal.
>There was a moment in the show where I just asked myself "what
>is this even about?".
>Its like they just sent a dude on air who is flying by the
>seat of his pants.
>Is this what they mean by white privilege?

because they need people to get emotional enough to call in

but sports radio personalities are just trying to be Howard Stern

shock the listener into listening

he may be a damn mediocre coach but Rick is very good on the radio

most of the ESPN personalities I find annoying, Brian Kenny was good but left for MLB network, I can tolerate Mike and Mike

Jim Rome's pauses, Bill Simmons's unctuous personality and schmarmy voice and inflection as well as Bayless's trolling are the lowest of the low in my eyes

We share similar view points. He always bring a different perspective to sports analysis. Unlike others personnel at ESPN, he do not try to be a shock jock or say the popular thing to appeal to the masses.

I have genuine dislike in my heart for him. I tried to give him some run, but I couldn't do it. I wont even give him a second of a listen.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Because I know a guy that listens to him religiously and he's 1-4 on his Fantasy team...dude wants to pistolwhip Berry (high takes league)

I asked him why do you listen to him, do your own research and make your own decision. He said, this mf is supposed to be the expert, he's got a show wearing nice suits, with a nice check, you would assume he'd be right sometimes. Still trying to talk him out of listening to Berry
