Before anyone ever cared where I would play basketball, I was a kid from
Northeast Ohio. It’s where I walked. It’s where I ran. It’s where I cried. It’s
where I bled. It holds a special place in my heart. People there have seen me
grow up. I sometimes feel like I’m their son. Their passion can be overwhelming.
But it drives me. I want to give them hope when I can. I want to inspire them
when I can. My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I
didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now.

Remember when I was sitting up there at the Boys & Girls Club in 2010? I was
thinking, This is really tough. I could feel it. I was leaving something I had
spent a long time creating. If I had to do it all over again, I’d obviously do
things differently, but I’d still have left. Miami, for me, has been almost like
college for other kids. These past four years helped raise me into who I am. I
became a better player and a better man. I learned from a franchise that had
been where I wanted to go. I will always think of Miami as my second home.
Without the experiences I had there, I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing
today.

I went to Miami because of D-Wade and CB. We made sacrifices to keep UD. I loved
becoming a big bro to Rio. I believed we could do something magical if we came
together. And that’s exactly what we did! The hardest thing to leave is what I
built with those guys. I’ve talked to some of them and will talk to others.
Nothing will ever change what we accomplished. We are brothers for life. I also
want to thank Micky Arison and Pat Riley for giving me an amazing four years.

I’m doing this essay because I want an opportunity to explain myself
uninterrupted. I don’t want anyone thinking: He and Erik Spoelstra didn’t get
along. … He and Riles didn’t get along. … The Heat couldn’t put the right team
together. That’s absolutely not true.

I’m not having a press conference or a party. After this, it’s time to get to
work.

When I left Cleveland, I was on a mission. I was seeking championships, and we
won two. But Miami already knew that feeling. Our city hasn’t had that feeling
in a long, long, long time. My goal is still to win as many titles as possible,
no question. But what’s most important for me is bringing one trophy back to
Northeast Ohio.

I always believed that I’d return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I
just didn’t know when. After the season, free agency wasn’t even a thought. But
I have two boys and my wife, Savannah, is pregnant with a girl. I started
thinking about what it would be like to raise my family in my hometown. I looked
at other teams, but I wasn’t going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland.
The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy.

To make the move I needed the support of my wife and my mom, who can be very
tough. The letter from Dan Gilbert, the booing of the Cleveland fans, the
jerseys being burned -- seeing all that was hard for them. My emotions were more
mixed. It was easy to say, “OK, I don’t want to deal with these people ever
again.” But then you think about the other side. What if I were a kid who looked
up to an athlete, and that athlete made me want to do better in my own life, and
then he left? How would I react? I’ve met with Dan, face-to-face, man-to-man.
We’ve talked it out. Everybody makes mistakes. I’ve made mistakes as well. Who
am I to hold a grudge?

I’m not promising a championship. I know how hard that is to deliver. We’re not
ready right now. No way. Of course, I want to win next year, but I’m realistic.
It will be a long process, much longer than it was in 2010. My patience will get
tested. I know that. I’m going into a situation with a young team and a new
coach. I will be the old head. But I get a thrill out of bringing a group
together and helping them reach a place they didn’t know they could go. I see
myself as a mentor now and I’m excited to lead some of these talented young
guys. I think I can help Kyrie Irving become one of the best point guards in our
league. I think I can help elevate Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters. And I
can’t wait to reunite with Anderson Varejao, one of my favorite teammates.

But this is not about the roster or the organization. I feel my calling here
goes above basketball. I have a responsibility to lead, in more ways than one,
and I take that very seriously. My presence can make a difference in Miami, but
I think it can mean more where I’m from. I want kids in Northeast Ohio, like the
hundreds of Akron third-graders I sponsor through my foundation, to realize that
there’s no better place to grow up. Maybe some of them will come home after
college and start a family or open a business. That would make me smile. Our
community, which has struggled so much, needs all the talent it can get.

In Northeast Ohio, nothing is given. Everything is earned. You work for what you
have.

I’m ready to accept the challenge. I’m coming home.

The answer is pretty evident....

A player can always keep a summer home in Miami...

But James, the home state kid, winning just 1 ring for Cleveland?

That shit is like 5 championships in Miami...

36. "Can we talk about how hilariously wrong Broussard was this morning?"
In response to Reply # 0

This was posted up TWO HOURS AGO.

Letter still an issue for LeBron
Chris Broussard

ESPN The Magazine | July 11, 2014

One reason, if not the major reason, that LeBron James has taken so long to decide whether to play in Miami or Cleveland next season is the infamous letter Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert wrote about James after the superstar left Cleveland in 2010, sources said.

In the letter, typed in Comic Sans font, Gilbert called James a "coward" and mocked the many nicknames and catchphrases attached to James, such as "King James," "The Chosen One" and "Witness."

The letter remained on the Cavs' website for the past four years until the team removed it earlier this week.

Although James recognizes that informing Cavs fans and Gilbert, who was told of James' decision to leave Cleveland in a telephone call five minutes before it was announced, on national television was a mistake, he is still wrestling with whether to return to play for Gilbert's team.

"If it wasn't for that letter, this would've been done a while ago," one source said.

A Cavs source downplayed the letter to ESPN's Josina Anderson on Friday morning, saying that there was "no indication from them to us at this point either way" on the letter playing a part in holding up LeBron's decision.

Although there have been rumblings about Gilbert and James clearing up their differences in the past, no such discussion or meeting has been confirmed. What is known is that Gilbert has never issued a public apology to James.

Sources close to James said Thursday that the four-time MVP wanted to speak with his family before making his decision. Many around the NBA have wondered what there was left to talk about, but James' concerns about the Gilbert letter is a plausible explanation.

While league executives wait for James to make his announcement, many refuse to believe that he'll return to Cleveland to play for Gilbert. Some even believe it would be hypocritical after how powerfully James spoke out against Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling after racist comments by Sterling were made public in May.

James was the first player to speak out against Sterling, saying he had no place in the NBA.

LeBron mentions the letter in his essay, and talks about how it was an obstacle for the people in his life whose input he relied on in making his decision.

Broussard quotes a source as saying "if it wasn't for the letter, this would have been done a while ago."

Based on what LeBron said, is that not true?

In response to Reply # 158

He'd committed to 85% likelihood of returning to Cleveland. All good, right?

Then, last night, he tweets:

@Chris_Broussard: This is getting very interesting. Definitely not at 85 pct for Cavs anymore

(LeBron had made his decision already by this point, btw.)

Then, he posts that story, which is present tense, less than two hours before SI's story posts. Rowing back even further on his 85% claim... even though LeBron had already decided by that point.

Then, this morning on the air, after the public letter was posted by LeBron and SI, Broussard says this:

https://vine.co/v/MxmqT0aAxeT

All he'd had to do was stick to his guns that LeBron was going back-- a.k.a. do what Chris Sheridan did. Instead, he rows back on those claims, not knowing it was after LeBron's decision had already been made and was being prepped for announcement. Then he had the gall to "confirm" the letter LeBron co-authored on air.

Embarrassing.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Two reasons: I didn't like the way he left Cleveland and his arrogance about winning rings in Miami AND the fact that Miami is a shit ass sports town that doesn't deserve rings.

But yeah, if you hate now that's just a bad look on you.

LeBron returning to CLE hits the ticker at the bottom of the TV screen.

He slowly gets out of the hot tub and leaves.

The butler comes around the corner to the ladies with confused looks on their faces:

"Master Noah thanks you for your company, but your time here is over. He must prepare."

I still say fuck Dan Gilbert and fuck the Cavs, and if anything shows a lack of loyalty it is Bron's bailing on Miami. Riles makes the big moves and they had a ton of success there.

I'd also like to see an era of greater parity in the near future.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I was never much of a Bron fan, but this is admirable imo and I never saw it coming.

I also want to see the same Cleveland fans that bombed on him flip flop again, its crazy.

Hopefully he has some help this time around, they still need a big man.

And why didn't he drop 'D2: Still Deciding' - that would have made him GOAT in my eyes

There's zero chance he foregoes a potential 4-peat. Zero. This is a dude who often talks about history and legacy, so there's no way he leaves that chance on the table. He said that he eventually wanted to return to Cleveland, just didn't know when...he still would have, just no way he leaves a defending champion team to do it.

win or lose he could see the team was getting older/worse so he was gonna leave once they started losing, but you don't leave right after a 3peat.

LeBron was not petty enough to let the rant of an asshole owner prevent him from doing what he wants to do. Not sure how that's egotistic.

Unless that "I've made mistakes as well" is his encompassing admission to the PR nightmare that his team of people created and mismanaged with that whole cluster. That whole paragraph, to me, just glosses over how much of a dick move the entire thing was to people he's now trying to butter up again.

Edit: Even the part about the fan's reaction, he may as well have said "I'm sorry for the reaction that my actions caused". That's, uh...

Horribly off predictions and jabs about "king" aside, the main and repeated attack points of the letter was the betrayal to the fans and how "cowardly" the entire thing was handled. And if you look at it objectively as a Cavs fan and/or owner, the way the negotiations and announcement went down fit the bills of cowardice and betrayal.

Lebron could go a long long way in rectifying his place with those fans by admitting, without vagaries, that The Decision was handled really poorly and he should have been more open with Cleveland and Gilbert about his intentions back then.

People fawning over this letter, on the other hand, I'm worried about. Need to buy everyone a copy of Wag the Dog and a subscription to Adbusters, because clapping to this is like being willfully manipulated at a d-level of propagandizing. If you read it critically, especially in the deadly serious voice that I'm sure LeBron and his folks intended, it's almost a parody.

Wait?? What did we do? The best FA chose to play for our organization. We acted first class, we won some, we lost some. He decides to leave and it sounds that nothing would have kept him.
And we are getting laughed at?

Are hardcore Heat fans upset? (yes they do exist, for those of

Of course - cats are in mourning w/ LeBatard but they will
get over their ex in a month or two. There's simply too
much electricity in Miami to be stuck solely on sports.

Guys, wait, haven’t you learned anything about this cycle? First he leaves, then you spend the next four years guilting him into returning. Those jerseys are expensive. You’re gonna regret this in 2018…

http://youtu.be/NhCMn8gmkYI

http://youtu.be/Oi4OTbACwXo

Meanwhile at American Airlines Arena, Heat fans are screaming “Fuck LeBron James” at reporters during live TV broadcasts…

Also, a mural of James and his now former teammates has been defamed by drifters who knew nothing of his decision to return to Cleveland. Chris Broussard’s sources indicate this was not in anyway connected to the decision 2.0.

who have all these reasons why they say a guy is going to do one thing or the other...really don't know shit..

players don't always take the most money..

they don't always return to the team they've just been successful with..

they don't always pick the team with the best chance to win sooner...

there are a variety of reasons why a player may pick to play a certain place..

and until the guy actually makes that decision public...there is no reason to guess...

In response to Reply # 154

of course the two rings and 4 finals are big but for those of us who watched Wade's career, we know he fell off after Bron arrived.

I guess he has flown under the radar for missing so many games and subpar performances but he was still headed for being a top 5 SG if Bron never goes to Miami.

Kevin Love is reportedly "intrigued" by the idea of playing with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving on the Cavaliers, and would commit to a long-term contract in Cleveland.
In late June the Cavs' pursuit of Love was reportedly dead in the water because he refused to re-sign with them, but as usual LeBron is a game-changer. The Cavs are rumored to have made an offer centered around No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins, and the Wolves may be hard-pressed to get a better offer, so this could quickly progress. For now, however, it remains only a fascinating possibility.

*I don't have to sit through another D. League
Wade laissez-faire turnover sequence while Bosh
yawns on the perimeter

*Lebron sets the stage for a legacy unlike any other
seen in sports history, and will actually get credit
for his titles now, whereas in Miami there still was
a sense that regardless of how many titles he earned,
he wouldn't get the warranted respect. Now, even if
he just wins one for Cleveland, this narrative shifts
dramatically.

*This will expose the irrational h.s. jilted lovers

if lebron got over dan gilbert and that shit fanbases post decision reaction
then who am i to be mad about it
fuck it.
i need to see the roster make up before i get too excited but bron winning a chip in multiple cities ethers the haters
and elevates him above cats who could only win in 1 city with 1 coach (kobe, MJ, magic)

and for the sports world in general. Really it's
a transcendent moment and Lebron is having the most
interesting career of any superstar in the league's history, possibly ever - not really debatable except for Jordan's leave of absence
to play baseball and then his subsequent return.

>if lebron got over dan gilbert and that shit fanbases post
>decision reaction
>then who am i to be mad about it
>fuck it.

Yea that's the thing that gets me. As I said in a previous post
where people just couldn't believe this might happen -- this is
*way* bigger than Dan Gilbert's simp ass, or hurt fans burning jerseys. This is about a legacy unlike any other, and about Lebron
feeling right about how his career plays out. He was not playing joyous basketball that last year in Miami, and anyone even partially
familiar w/ Lebron could see that clear as day.

>i need to see the roster make up before i get too excited but
>bron winning a chip in multiple cities ethers the haters
>and elevates him above cats who could only win in 1 city with
>1 coach (kobe, MJ, magic)
>

This really was the only way Lebron could *clearly* elevate himself above the rest in terms of legacy, and it was the right move. Still, I need to see the roster as well but I felt like Miami's roster was such a dying tree that Cleveland will really breathe new life into this era of Kang-led Cavaliers. Hope they get Love.

Should lend itself to open and honest discourse of lbj depending on how they fare.

Well at least more than when it's chip or bust.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

He basically reported every possible situation. He had Miami as the favorite. Then he said signing Blatt as head coach would significantly lower Cleveland's chance at LeBron. Then he said there was an 85% chance of him going back to Cleveland. Then reported (while SI was probably laughing since they already had LeBron's letter at this point) that Dan Gilbert's letter was preventing LeBron from signing with Cleveland.

Good for LeBron. Hugely grateful for last four years. Even the last 10 days have been amazing fun. You won't hear a negative syllable here

I actually wouldn't be surprised if he makes one and makes fun of the Heat.
Sometimes I'm mad at him because he is too 'fair'. The whole time he was saying the he couldn't fault Lebron for wanting to go back home.

If they do, they would probably be the 1 seed, in which I'd say, there aren't really any excuses.

My only excuse would be if the Spurs keep everyone AND get Pau. That would be a beastly addition to an already-great team, and they'd likely be the favorite for those who don't have short memories.

But even then... if you're the 1 seed, it's title or bust. Even if they do lose Wiggins. What seed are they? That should determine expectations to some degree.

If GSW continues to refuse to offer Klay without assurances, Waiters/Bennett/Memphis' first rounder next year is the best offer they have. And Cleveland has two more first rounders and Tristan they could throw Minny's way to sweeten the deal if they want.

If Cleveland doesn't get Love, they'll live-- they'll have a bunch of money, assets to move, and vets wanting to sign. If Minnesota doesn't get assets for Love, it's a disaster.

this dude does not know how to pick up the phone.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11203729/cleveland-cavaliers-learned-lebron-james-decision-online

The Cleveland Cavaliers found out they were getting LeBron James back the same way the rest of the world did, when they read James' essay that was posted on Sports Illustrated's website on Friday afternoon, sources said.

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert joined his family after hearing the news, sources said.

James spoke with Heat president Pat Riley and owner Micky Arison Friday morning on the phone before James' first-person essay was posted, sources said. ESPN.com reported incorrectly earlier that the Heat did not know of the decision until it was posted and were not expecting it. The Heat had left their meeting with James earlier this week in Las Vegas feeling good about their chances to retain him, even if it was on a short-term deal.

No contract for James has been negotiated with the Cavs yet because no talks had taken place before the essay was released. The Cavs are expected to offer a four-year deal worth the maximum $88 million but will agree to any terms James wants.

James is expected to make a long-term commitment to the franchise, sources said.

James, his agent and advisors deeply considered how they wanted to release the message and decided they didn't want to make it about the Cavs or the Heat but about the people of Ohio. James wanted to tell them first, sources said.

He also wanted to communicate that he accepts the pressure and the challenges that come along with this choice and any fallout that may come with it. Wanting to make it personal, James wanted the words to be straight from him.

Several of James' friends and family cried when they read the piece before it was finalized, sources said. Though he and his family enjoyed living in Miami, they felt a strong pull to return home to live year-round.

>How LeBron James forgave Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and returned to Cleveland

By Adrian Wojnarowski
Yahoo Sports

For four years, the letter had come to define Dan Gilbert, and the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers wanted to wash away the shame and embarrassment and guilt of it all. So Sunday, Gilbert sat down with LeBron James and his inner-circle and tried to absolve himself of a most wretched moment in time.

"We had five great years together and one terrible night," Gilbert told James, and so started the process of reconciliation on Sunday night in Miami. "I told him how sorry I was, expressed regret for how that night went and how I let all the emotion and passion for the situation carry me away. I told him I wish I had never done it, that I wish I could take it back."

And soon, James told Gilbert that he wished he had never done "The Decision" on cable television and that they had made mistakes together, that they could move past it. From James and his agent Rich Paul and business manager Maverick Carter, the air of peace hung heavy in the South Florida air, the process of returning to Cleveland had begun in earnest. Soon, they had stopped talking about the past and talked about the possibility of a future together and for the first time – truly the first time – the possibility of reunification had become genuine.

"It was more comfortable than I actually thought it would be," Gilbert told Yahoo Sports on Friday afternoon. "They made it easy for me."

These had been Gilbert's first public words since agent Rich Paul called him moments before a public announcement, and said simply, "Dan, congratulations. LeBron's coming home."
Gilbert had flown down on his private jet on Sunday for the most important meeting of his billionaire business life. After obliterating James on the night of his departure for the Miami Heat four years ago, Gilbert had come back to make his pitch for the most improbable of partnerships: James and Gilbert, older and wiser, scarred in far different ways from sport's most spectacular falling-out.

James became branded by The Decision, and Gilbert became a hostage to his Letter. Only, James would win two titles in four years with the Heat, and winning washes everything away. Winning changes the story. The Cavaliers have lost a lot of games, made mistakes and then Gilbert started to understand something: For all his business genius, all his rebuilding of Detroit and charitable endeavors and everything he had done in his life, the letter had come to define him.

"Do a Google search on me, and it's the first thing that comes up," Gilbert told Yahoo Sports. "To a certain segment of society, it's like somebody killed somebody, like somebody killed their kid. I told LeBron, 'That letter didn't hurt anybody more than it hurt me.'

"For the first two months, I kept thousands of letters – not hundreds – thousands written to me. There were 90-year-old ladies and CEOs, and I realized that that letter had transcended the event, went far beyond LeBron. After a few months, I would re-read it and just be full of regret. That wasn't me, that wasn't who I am. I didn't mean most of the things I said in there. The venom it produced, from all sides … I wish … I wish I had never done it.

"I'm grateful that we all get another chance together now."

Three years ago, Gilbert says he "started to hear rumblings that this could be possible," that James had thoughts about someday making a return to the Cavaliers. "I went back and forth in my mind, thinking: Could this really happen? It was a volatile thing for years, and now that it's happened, I'm still in shock."

Gilbert couldn't stop talking about Paul and Carter, about how they were the conduits to make it all work again. "So professional with us through the whole process," Gilbert said. In the end, LeBron James wanted to come home, wanted to forgive, and there were these two figures, forever connected in history, sitting in Miami on Sunday and slowly, surely laying out a way it could all happen again.

LeBron James comes home a two-time champion, comes home with a chance to deliver something Dan Gilbert would've never imagined possible again: a chance for them to be champions together, a chance to wash away all the stain of a Scarlet Letter and The Decision, to get together older and wiser, and better understand how it can be made right again.

His cell phone buzzed on Friday afternoon, and Dan Gilbert, the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, heard the words he could've never, ever imagined: LeBron's coming home.

I'm sincerely happy for Cav fans and the city of Cleveland, but Dan Gilbert really doesn't deserve this.

If I was LeBron, I'd still demand Gilbert get "I Was Wrong" tattoed on his forehead. Then make him literally kiss his ass center court before the Cav's first home game.

> The Story Behind Sports Illustrated's Big LeBron James Exclusive

Magazine's Ad Sellers Didn't Know Before Its Publication

LeBron James told the world he is returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a first person essay that was published on the Sports Illustrated website at 12:13 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, ending days of intense speculation that had seen Mr. James' website crash and endless erroneous guesses published. Sports Illustrated Senior Writer Lee Jenkins helped Mr. James write the essay, titled "I'm Coming Home," which is poised to be the biggest traffic event in the history of the magazine, according to its top editors.

So how did Sports Illustrated get the big scoop?

"It all goes to Lee Jenkins," said Sports Illustrated Managing Editor Chris Stone. "He made this happen."

Several months ago, Mr. Jenkins mentioned to his editors that he wanted to pursue a big story about the next phase of Mr. James' career. "We told him to go for it," said Mr. Stone. But the magazine didn't "place big money" on it actually coming to fruition, he acknowledged.

Then last Saturday, Mr. Jenkins, who was flying to Cleveland on Friday afternoon when Ad Age spoke with Mr. Stone and Sports Illustrated Editor-in-Chief Paul Fichtenbaum, emailed his editors saying the story was a possibility. Out of caution, he didn't mention Mr. James' name in the email.

"The first thing we asked is whether there were any conditions attached," Mr. Stone said. "There were none."

On Wednesday, Mr. Jenkins traveled to Las Vegas. He met with Mr. James on Thursday night before writing the essay with him. Mr. Jenkins emailed the essay to his editors around mid-morning on Friday. "Everyone reading it was learning the news for the first time," Mr. Stone said.

The magazine, which introduced a top-to-bottom redesign of its website last month, alerted its technology team that a big story would soon publish. That way they'd be prepared for the extra traffic. They weren't told, however, what the big scoop was about.

Only about six Sports Illustrated staffers saw the piece before it went live, according to Mr. Stone, who had worried it would somehow leak.

"I can't tell you how stressful the last 24 hours were," he said. "There were a lot of smart, good reporters pursuing this story."

"We're going to sleep well tonight," Mr. Fichtenbaum added.

One question now is how well Sports Illustrated can capitalize after today's undoubtedly huge traffic spike passes. Mr. Jenkins now is writing a piece about Mr. James' decision and what it means for Cleveland for the next print issue of Sports Illustrated, which comes out Wednesday, according to Mr. Fichtenbaum.

Editors didn't tell their business-side counterparts about the scoop ahead of time. "The reason we got this story, I think, is because LeBron's team trusted us not to turn it into a circus," Mr. Stone explained. "So to parlay it into a commercial endeavor ahead of time would have been inappropriate."

Unfortunately for Sports Illustrated, Google News is rewarding other publishers for their own rewrites of the magazine's scoop, with search results for "LeBron" turning up stories from local news sites, ESPN and even Slate ahead of Sports Illustrated. A search for "Sports Illustrated LeBron" didn't even turn up the magazine's essay among the top results.

Mr. Fichtenbaum said this is a point of ongoing frustration. "If you want the only story that matters, you go to SI.com," he added.

Sports Illustrated attracted nearly 20 million unique visitors to its desktop and mobile sites in May, a 49% boost compared with May 2013, according to ComScore.

to come back after that letter. If it was just that one night, I could see him forgiving/forgetting but that the letter was on their website yet until last week. Nah, he had to have made some type of down the road deals imo at least he should have.

If Bron wins even one ring, retires in 8 years or so and eventually becomes majority owner of his Cavs, that would be legendary.

According to him after 6-8 years LeBron will have an ownership stake in the Cavs.

Before you dismiss Tip he called Bron going back to Cleveland last week.

With an eye towards maximizing the future of the salary cap, LeBron James finalized his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday, sources familiar with the process told ESPN.com.

James has agreed to a two-year, $42.1 million deal with the team with the goal of re-signing with the Cavs before the 2016-17 season when a new television contract is expected to create a large jump in value of the maximum.

As part of the deal, James will have an option to become a free agent next summer but is fully committed to the Cavs long term, sources said.

"I always believed that I'd return to Cleveland and finish my career there," James wrote in his essay in Sports Illustrated announcing his decision on Friday.

Depending on how the new television contracts are put together, the salary cap is projected to leap to as high as $80 million in 2016. There is also uncertainty with the current collective bargaining agreement starting in 2017, another reason James wanted to keep his long-term options open when it comes to the structure of his contract.

Because of James' off-court earnings, which top $40 million per year according to some estimates, allows for him to take some short-term risk to maximize long-term earnings.

James has earned $129 million over his 11-year career but has only earned the max salary three times in that time.

James' Cleveland-based agents Rich Paul and Mark Termini structured the deal with the Cavs.

per @WindhorstESPN. Here's the link: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11207703/lebron-james-deal-cleveland-cavaliers-2-years-421-million

I wouldn't put too much into it. There's an opportunity for a new CBA by then, right? If a new CBA looms, makes no sense to sign a contract past it. Or maybe wrong about that and it's just a two-year deal, but yeah whatever fire up the conspiracy machine one more time I guess.

Well, here I am, motherfuckers.

What better occasion than the Return of Floptimus Prime, The Brett Favre of The NBA, back to the place where it all started.

You could have counted me among those who would have been cool with LeBron James not coming back to Cleveland, because prior to the news, the Cavs were moving in a direction that made me happy for the first time in four years. Chris Grant GONE. Mike Brown GONE. Cavs fucked around and somehow got a #1 pick after THAT season. Cavs hire a coach who isn't a retread, yet understands pro basketball as practiced in the NBA after 2009. Kyrie Irving staying (to the dismay of numerous vultures).

It gets better. Heat not only fail to three peat, but they get DAT ASS WHOOPED in a way that can NEVER be Cuban B'd the way the 2011 failure has been Cuban B'd by the Cult of the Lord of Deference, Savior of Lebronon. The cramps, the three-straight dustings, the missed-free-throws-short-of-a-sweep, and ALL the plea copping. Even my lil brother (who I hadn't seen in almost 2 years) got on me about how "Cleveland fans" don't need to see a Heat loss, when I saw him this summer as the Finals were going on.

But this right here?

Ultimate vindication, and that's without a title.

Because this whole sequence of events was a great exercise in exposure. Of Anti-Cleveland/smaller market bias, hidden entitlement, and just plain bullshit.

All this time, I heard motherfuckers talking all this shit about "Cleveland fans" this, "Cleveland fans" that w/r/t LeBron hate.

There ain't nearly enough motherfuckers in Cleveland to even equal the amount of hate that LeBron was receiving for forming the Death Star in Miami. It was a Coalition of Hate, and well-deserved. The Decision (the TV special, not the decision to leave) was pathetic. The flopping and other clown behavior exhibited by the Heat's stars, especially in the first year, was embarrassing.

Y'all motherfuckers ain't said SHIT when the stars aligned to pull Shaq out of Orlando and the draft rights to Kobe to L.A. in '96. And if you did, and got mad at motherfuckers who went hard at Miami for essentially being the same shit? Shut the fuck up.

LeBron's announcement hit, and productivity PLUMMETED Friday afternoon. Everyone was talking about LeBron. People were blowing up my phone (including a few of y'all from here), Twitter, Facebook, even my lil brother sent me a message of apology. I drove home from work Friday afternoon, Volvo freshly repaired, and saw a professionally printed "Welcome Home LeBron" sign right outside a local business. The jerseys motherfuckers swore were burned to ash, suddenly found themselves all over folks this weekend, everywhere I went. It was like 2003 all over again.

See, let me tell you something about Cleveland fans. Yes, there were people who burned jerseys. There were ton of people who were mad, rooted against Miami at every turn, and basically were anti-LeBron for the duration of his time in Miami. You can count me among the latter. I never had a LeBron jersey to burn. I have always been tentative about dude, because he for the most part is the "anti-underdog", "too mainstream" pick. He also seemed way too much a wanna be Cheese Eyes for me, and I still hate Cheese Eyes and the '90s Bulls. But I rode for dude, because he wore a Cavalier uniform.

But when I say that these dudes worshipped dude when he was here the first time, it still sounds like an underestimation. There was a reason why people were -that- mad. This dude was not only supposed to be Jordan, but he was from Akron. Intrastate rivalries aside, Northeast Ohio sices its own at every turn. And when you're as good as LeBron James, the noise can be deafening. The worship carried well after he was gone. All motherfuckers could talk about were how to bring him back, even when they were given a do-over card in Kyrie Irving. Dilbert and Grant kept making moves that were geared to making the team attractive for his return, and IMO... all the "Come Home LeBron" talk just seemed kind of prideless to me, disrespectful to Kyrie even.

That being said, it wasn't all love in his absence either. Smart-Dumb Negroes tried to paint this as a Black vs. White thing, and they still sound dumb as fuck today. I saw young dudes in the Heights wearing anti-LeBron shirts. I've had convos even I've had to duck out of with dudes, because THEY were too mad about it. Still, I knew that if LeBron did come back, all that shit would be out the window. Or at least 77% of it.

I just never thought it would actually happen. Now that it has, reading the "PR" reasons for him doing so and skepticism around the details notwithstanding, I'm good with it. My chief agenda is to see fans in depressed places happy. Cleveland, especially -- as before I made it my home in 2003, it was my "home away from home" in my earliest years. I chose the Cavs by accident, stayed with them because they were a "Cleveland" team.

This move from LeBron defies convention, conventional wisdom, and anything you can name. It's the "anti-mainstream" move. It's the "anti-LeBron as envisioned by his detractors move" (mostly). To be like, "I got two, won't retire ringless" and go back to where you left, effectively forfeiting the move to surpass Jordan and Kobe in rings? Never seen anything like it, ulterior motives or no. It is a wholly different path than those prior.

At this point, he just might end up legitimately getting into my circle of favorite NBA players, because of this. To put it simply, as my dude Kira typed above: "LeBron made his dickriders embrace a city and team they all hate". That speaks volumes.

Though, LeBron isn't exactly coming back to the Semih Erden/Omri "Captain Assfingers" Cavs. There are still holes on this team. But Kyrie Irving and the most hyped prospect since LeBron himself (who I personally don't think will be as great as touted but still All-Star status) is a better place to build than with a declining Wade, Dinobosh, and scraps. It's a win-win. Re-up with younger players, have a chance to cash in on the Favrization of his image as one of the legitimately most beloved players in the sport, and as I suspect, things much bigger than basketball.

I'm wary of LeBron coming back and this being The LeBron Show 2.0, the Cavs front office succumbing to "win now" pressure and trading too much to get one title with their money tied up, and particularly the clown show of questionable foul calls, egregious FLOPPING, and all the shit that made the Death Star Era of the Miami Heat so easy to hate. I don't want none of that in Cleveland. I want smart, enjoyable basketball.

Personally I'm glad Kyrie Irving will finally be on a national stage and all that slander you motherfuckers were flinging at the next Penny Hardaway is gonna look silly as fuck, even if Bron will get 96% of the credit. I'm even more elated that all the Cleveland haters and Dan Gilbert concern trolls are gonna be eating da poo poo... WITH ice cream.

That being said:

All y'all on that "Cleveland fans don't deserve LeBron", "Cleveland is a shit hole", "Cleveland fans are jilted lovers", "DUR-HUR-HUR THE DECISION'S ADVERTISING PROCEEDS WENT TO CHARITY", "I Can't Wait Until Kyrie Is Out Of That Hellhole" bullshit?

FUCK YOU AND EAT 90 DICKS.

All y'all Dan Gilbert Concern Trolls?

FUCK YOU AND EAT 92 DICKS.

All you Smart-Dumb Ankh-Up-The-Ass Negroes talking that shit about, "LeBron's a sellout for going back to play for that asshole", "Django Re-Chained" ... who previously touted LeBron's decision as a "move of independence for Black folks", talked about Dan Gilbert being a slave driver and made all these Comic Sans jokes, meanwhile SLURPING up Pat Riley for saying the same shit in less fan-type language?

Nah, dogg.

FUCK YOU IN THE GOAT ASS WITH A MOTHERFUCKIN RUSTY NAIL IN KRISTEN UTC FONT YOU HANKYHEAD MOTHERFUCKERS!

It's a new day.

Kira, osu_no_1, the Kyrie fans, those of y'all who endured all that slander... it's OUR time.

Drewmathic, keep fighting the good fight. As us Cavs fans did for the last four years. Looking forward to Bosh.

To Jambone (wherever you're hiding), ImPerfectNick, Wordup et al -- I apologize. Y'all were right, I was wrong. Nothing else to it.

Anyone else I cussed out: y'all are still exactly what I called you, in caps, bold letters, 89pt font, and neon italics.

Vex, Vee, you cool. Rest of y'all... keep Cleveland out your mouth, y'all just took the greatest agenda L in modern history.

I never hated LeBron the man.
Hated aspects of LeBron the basketball player.
Hated the mythical LeBron James, as described by The Cult -- a figure so overrated that turned me from Jordan Hater to Jordan Defender and hastened my citizenship application to Kobestan.

It's best to just sit back and see where this story goes at this point. LeBron is not Cheese Eyes, he's not Kobe, and if he doesn't end up with enough rings or end better than them, IT DOESN'T MATTER. He's still a great even if he isn't GOAT, but this is a HUGE step to being something something completely different.

So shut the fuck up and enjoy the ride.

TL; DR version -

He back.
You mad.
Dick riders and ashy-type "activists" ... KEEP THE FUCK OUT, WE GOT THIS.

See you next time, motherfuckers.

Next time.

Just for the record - I called for this move back to Cleveland
in 2013, and couldn't be happier that it's happened...

and while some people are criticizing this move for basketball reasons, I couldn't disagree more, and align exactly w/ this:

<There are still holes on this team. But Kyrie Irving and the most hyped prospect since LeBron himself (who I personally don't think will be as great as touted but still All-Star status) is a better place to build than with a declining Wade, Dinobosh, and scraps. It's a win-win. Re-up with younger players, have a chance to cash in on the Favrization of his image as one of the legitimately most beloved players in the sport, and as I suspect, things much bigger than basketball.>

point blank: This Cleveland team will be better than any of those Miami teams once it gels.

2) You mentioned how Lebron comin back to Cleveland is somehow sacrificing his ring count...I disagree. He wanted a max contract and he wanted a team capable of winning rings...the Cavs are the best situation for that.

>that letter up until what 6 days ago?

- from what I read, the letter was up on the site but it could not be accessed normally from the Cavs website from the outside. you basically had to go digging into the server to find it. I think that report (which went up not long before LeBron's SI piece was published) was meant as a smokescreen.

I believe that Dan Gilbert would have had it removed sooner than 6 days ago from the site if he knew it was still on the servers; every move he has made as owner, esp. the farce that was last season/offseason has been geared to getting LeBron back over there. it's actually been one of the reasons I was mad at him (because I felt they were neglecting Kyrie in the process).

As for the "talking it out"; I lean toward it being a bunch of BS. I'm on record agreeing with the sentiment of the letter when it was written as a fan. I don't think an owner should ever voice those thoughts in any venue, however. I believe in "invisible" owners for the most part in pro sports. I don't want to hear the name/see the face unless they're doing good (see: Jones, Jerry; Haslam, Jimmy; Dolan, James; Sterling, Donald for examples of where it goes completely wrong).

On the other hand, Gilbert may be a raging capitalist of the worst type, which bothers me in many ways, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here. He has voiced that he has some regrets along the lines of what I typed earlier, that he would change the "wording" (likely would omit any direct references to LeBron himself, but say the same thing basically). As long as this move sends him back to virtual invisibility, I'm cool with it.

How I feel about Gilbert in general: he's a member of the owner class in the NBA, and only a few of them (most of the invisible ones, and ones like Dr. Buss) don't make me sick. How he's made his money is pretty much in line with the dregs of American capitalism. To make matters worse, he's definitely in the class of owners who "must be seen".

However, I do not blame him (completely) for the failures of Cleveland to build a legitimate contender around LeBron James the first time around. Rather, I blame the actions of the previous owner/GM with the actions during the one season the Cavs sucked to stockpile remaining assets. I blame Boozer('s agent) for reneging on the offer given by the Cavs. Dan Gilbert bought the team because LeBron James was on it, but was hamstrung in keeping him there with the moves made by the previous regime.

Also, I believe it was necessary for LeBron to go elsewhere but one of the reasons he was scratched off the list of my "favorites" has everything to do with that final playoff series and the circumstances of his poor play in key spots. I don't expect him to be Superman, I just don't expect him to try to manufacture his own pleas. And of course, when that happened in the season following on a grander stage, people STILL try to Cuban B it. (Props to O_E for telling the truth and falling on his own sword)

>2) You mentioned how Lebron comin back to Cleveland is somehow
>sacrificing his ring count...I disagree. He wanted a max
>contract and he wanted a team capable of winning rings...the
>Cavs are the best situation for that.

I think that while it's likely LeBron could win a title in Cleveland, it won't be guaranteed, and unless the Cavs pull off the incredible (they are on a good run of luck right now), they're a bit away from having a situation similar to what had happened in Miami, where the assembled talent was so lopsided relative to other teams in the conference.

I think that LeBron coming back to Cleveland (especially if it's until his retirement) will reduce his chances to gain more championships than Horry (lol), MJ, Kobe, and Duncan. I think three or four is likely at the end of his career.

I'm not sure that there were many teams that could afford him, but if not Miami, I was thinking a team like the Clippers would be more attractive.

I expected two more years in Miami, though. They went to the Finals 4 times in a row and teams were sitting on their hands trying to improve themselves.

This was before Cavs got #1 pick, Embiid got hurt so they picked up Wiggins, and I still expect Anthony Bennett to basically have a season as good as the other good drafts (just not "better than LJ" status) this year. So then it became even more probable. I just didn't think he would actually do it. Looking back, it makes the most sense.

The Cavs have gone on a uncharacteristically good sequence of front office moves this offseason prior to LeBron, so maybe it will continue.

In general, I have a hard time not being pessimistic... LOL

I just need to remind myself that Kyrie Irving is one of the top lottery picks post-LeBron, and LeBron really hasn't ever played with a PG with his skills on an actual team. Not to mention, the opportunity for LeBron to play reduced minutes is higher with the Cavs.

This nigga talking about what we deserve. You deserve all of Bron's cum on your face. What were Bron's actions when he we went to Miami? This nigga talking about charity. At least we stay until the end of games. Those plebeians booed the king. By the way, every time you root for Lebron you swallow Cleveland cum. Let that sink in before you take shots.
