Not surprising that Melo chose the money and his wife wanting to stay in NYC (if in fact true)...That's a lot of bread and family is family...If dude really wanted to make it happen he could have demanded that S&T...

But yeah, we long moved on from this storyline...In fact, the Bulls front office had gone about their business weeks ago as if Melo was staying...

So what to do?

Love and the psycho at Indy? I think that would give us our second ball creator and the 2nd superstar we need...

In response to Reply # 5

The only people worth throwing money at next year are Rondo and Love. Ensuring we have a max slot available to offer love next year should be a priority, so I have no problem giving out ridiculous money if someone is willing to take a shit ton of money to put up nice numbers on a bad team for a year.

Since weve got to meet that cap minimum, resign Young/Xavier/Hill, throw 8mil at Isaiah Thomas for 2 years, see if Indy will take Nashs expiring bag of dildos so we can overpay the shit out of Born Ready for like 15 mil for one year and see if we cant snag a trade exception for Pau when he follows Melo to the Knicks.

I dunno how the numbers will work, but Id be fine some bullshit like that. At least wed put up some points and have flexibility to make a run at KD.

I don't think Bron and Bosh had much to do with this...

I disagree about the winning part. The only real serious contenders that made their pitch was Houston and Chicago. Chicago couldn't afford him, and I don't think he was really a fit in Houston. I think he still wants to win, and Chicago (or Dallas) would be his best bet, but Chicago couldn't make it work with the $. That's a LOT of $ to sacrifice. Not to mention no way Phil takes on Boozer in a sign and trade. Chicago should've BEEN amnestied Boozer.

>But like I've always said. It's really hard to leave that
>money on the table AND not have a happy wife/family...
I agree with this

If I'm the Bulls, I go all out for Born Ready...he can complement Rose, can score, play D, and he'll be a lot cheaper. Either that, or possibly drive up the price on Chandler Parsons

2 things....

1. If Melo was 28 u would have a point. But the reason why I think he basically chose family happiness/money over winning is because at 30 years old Melo will lose one of his important prime years in rebuilding. And once that happens, it's a complete gamble to get a second superstar the season after next to play alongside Melo (Durant, LA out of Portland...who?)...This is Melo having complete faith in Feel. And I hope that faith pays off...Because this is indeed a gamble...

2. Melo could have gone to the Bulls if he really wanted to via Sign & Trade. He would have gotten his money...Feel/Knicks would have gotten 1st round picks, expiring contracts and possibly a guy that has been touted to be a top 4 pick in this years draft...But he didn't want to leave because LaLa was not about to let him leave that money on the table. It is what it is...

We need a creator and a second superstar...I can put up with Born Ready's bullshit given that Thibs commands respect...But we should go HARD at Love before Cleveland gets any bright ideas (if they end up getting Bron the rumor is they are going HARD at Love....)....

add that to the fact that his 1B in Chicago possibly has degenerative knees and it's not surprising.

the bulls need to forego with their hardheaded "mold" and reach out to Lance with a respectable offer.

Again...This would all be true if the Bulls were depending on Melo to leave money on the table through a straight up signing....He would indeed be giving up MAJOR bank....

But Melo would have gotten his max money via S&T...And Feel would have been forced to make that trade given that he is after picks and more salary structure freedom...

It really comes down to Melo taking the easy way out and wanting to keep Lala and the fam happy...

As for Rose's knee? Melo with Rose at 75 percent would be in the Eastern Conference Finals...The Bulls won damn near 50 games with a rag-tag team with their best player being Noah...lol...With Melo they would instantly become Title Contenders even with Rose on the bench...Especially with the shooters we added.

As is, Bulls fans/brass have moved on weeks ago given we made the move to sign Niko. We should now turn our attention to Love/Lance...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

because ray and varejao should just basically sit out the regular season and even then might not last through june

plus i don't think love is that great a partner for bron....keeping wiggins and bron at pf if they go small is better than getting a guy who doesn't do anything bron can't do (even if he's really good at it too) and losing financial flexibility.

i'd almost rather see them try to pry pekovic (though he costs a bit much) or even better dieng away (for waiters or facilitating a 3 team deal) and forget about love on their roster.

Lebron is that good. These dudes have played together for team USA.
Love and kyrie with Lebron? The talent is there.

Don't worry you can still keep making jokes in kyrie and live about how they would've never done this without Bron help.

1) where will the east get better from besides the Wiz?

-Pacers could lose lance. Do we trust them to rebuild?
-Even if Rondo is better, Boston isnt a contender.
-Bulls, sure. Theyre always there
-Toronto? ok

>2.) That squad has way too many flaws and injury risks.
I cant disagree with the injury risks. But injury risks are just that, risks. Nothing is in stone either way.

>3.) Who plays defense on that team besides Lebron? I'll
>wait...
Kyrie is not worse than lazy wade we saw. Even harden isnt that bad.
But either way Varejao is a decent defender when not hurt--especially hedging pick and rolls.

>4.) Who protects the rim on that team? I'll wait again...
They can find a Birdman cheap willing to play with Bron. Birdman was barely a rim defender himself.

>5.) Rookie Coach from Europe you say?
Rookie half Filipino coach who hadnt even been an assistant you say?

>6.) Kyrie is now a spot up shooter while Lebron makes plays.
>That negates a large part of what Kyrie is good at.
>
Cmon. One of Brons best skills is his unselfishness. Hes shared the ball almost to a fault with Wade. He'll share with Kyrie and make Kyrie even better. Not being able to help on Kyrie at all? shit.

Even if you wereright and Kyrie was a spot up shooter, he's a hell of a shooter. I wouldnt want to leave that dude open. Then he catches the ball with the abilitry to pumpfake and go to the hole? He's one of the best finishing pgs.

>Yeah dude, I'm making this stuff up while you guys are stuck
>playing fantasy basketball.

fantasy basketball is Wiggins, Zach Levine, and Ricky Rubio in Minn.
Again anything with lebron instantly becomes real. Youre making up fantasy scenarios to say theyll not contend for the ECF.

The Wiz need to get better and make the right moves, but they're a threat.

Why couldn't the Pacers rebuild? How about if they don't lose Lance? What if Lance stays in the East to a team that's close. The Bobcats?

I didn't even mention the Celtics. They're a non factor unless they make moves.

Toronto is a threat forming.

I know, but some of those key cogs are big injury risks. Everyone can get injured but Anderson, Love, and to some extent Kyrie get injured a lot.

Yes he is.

I agree. But I'm gonna assume he'd be banged up. Cuz he always is.

Birdman is a threat though. They have no threat to defend the rim. Who will they find? Haywood? Dalembert? Those dudes might not even be in their price range.

>>5.) Rookie Coach from Europe you say?

He had experience before Bron came though. Learned. Got his lumps. This is a rookie head coach.

I'm good with that, but I'm saying Bron's strengths will negate a lot of Kyrie's strengths. They overlap a bit on offense. It'd be like a worse version of the first year in Miami where Bron would have to take his turn, then Wade took his turn. That wasn't as effective.

> Even if you wereright and Kyrie was a spot up shooter, he's a

Nothing fantasy about it. I'm making logical basketball arguments.

You guys are the ones saying, Lebron = ECF no matter what the team looks like. Just because, he's Lebron.

No...u r just talking shit now, brother Billy...lol

I'm not a James booster being that my team has had their heart broken each and every time...

But it's silly to even think that James could not take a team with Love and Kyrie to the ECF...Like borderline wacky...Especially given that the East would be turned upside down by James leaving MIA (IF this even happens)...

They would go to the ECF with my mom at center with James on that team...remember, we not talking about James, Love, Kyrie and ect beating the Spurs...

I know u have no love for Kyrie...But that boy would go NUTS playing next to James, who adds 40 plus wins to any shitty team he goes to...

but like u allude to
that's a lot of injury risk spread out across a starting lineup
that team is a mid season bang up injury from being second round fodder
counting on sideshow and ray to play heavy minutes at this stage is down right foolish
and that's with giving kyrie the benefit of the doubt that all his injuries were "fake" (c) bags
shit 70% of the team we've never even seen in the playoffs before
would be interesting to see

Or he'll why didn't you clown me for having a 8 man roster. Wel all know no nba team has a 8 man roster since you're being so literal.

I could've penciled in dion but like someone said above he's more than likely gone and will get them another asset.

We already see how everyone is waiting for Bron and what happened in Miami. A bunch of old free agents chasing a title will likely sign for cheap.

vs the bench.

But if you're saying your eloquent posting style is to write in stanzas, then MY BAD.

I'm saying that top 8 you posted isn't an ECF team unless teams regress or injuries happen.

Yes, maybe they grab OJ Mayo or some bs player who gets cut.

Maybe Jonathan Bender un-un-un-retires and comes back.

Shit, maybe Grant Hill walks out of the AT&T store happy about his new family sharing plan and is reinvigorated to play some hoops and join the Cavs.

I don't know bro.

I'm willing to say that roster isn't an ECF team. I don't know how else to put it.

the Wiz should improve their record, but they won't be a real threat to Bron.
Toronto is treading water.
Atlanta might improve with health, but again -- they're not better than Bron.
who did the Knicks trade for? Calderon? Right, yeah -- that's gonna move the needle.
Miami might well get worse.
Charlotte is competitive, but hardly a threat.
Boston is gonna have Kelly Olynyk (sp?) knock the crown off Bron's head?

Like who? Who, outside of whatever team potentially signs LeBron, is actually getting better?

it's not any more complicated than that. There's a whole host of reasons I don't love the hypothetical Cavs with Bron on the roster, or even Bron + Love, but you're deluding yourself if you think they fail to make the ECF.

Young players get better, yes. But there is no young player in the LEAGUE, much less the Eastern Conference, about to get better than LeBron James.

Kyrie over any combo of pgs the heat had
I'd take love over bosh- but I'll give you that one.

Either pf you take from that scenario isn't a big drop off from the other.

Now what'd that Miami bench look like?

They started playing James jones

No..but u r actually arguing that the Cavs adding the best player in the league who took a broken down D. Wade and a good all-star in Bosh playing out of position for much of the season with a bunch of junk to the Finals would not even make it to the ECF with Kevin Love and Kyrie. And all this in the still weak ass East... where only my Bulls (who have yet to get another true star to help Noah and Rose) and Toronto are in the way...

Either u just fucking with people or having a stroke......

D-Wade and Bosh are All Stars. Sure Wade got exposed in the later rounds. But it was still a championship team with that pedigree.

You're the one talking about making the ECF like it's nothing.

The East isn't going to be as bad as you think or as easy to run through.

Bron is the best player in the league, but the rest of the players and the coach don't have that pedigree.

And wtf are you talking about the Bulls and Toronto are the only teams in the way.

My dude put down them 40's.

If Love is the 2nd best player on a team, that team is probably good, i.e. Curry (best player) and Love (2nd best) with Bogut as rim-protector is a recipe for goodness.

If Love is the best player on a team, then that team is not as good as it would be if LaMarcus Aldridge were the best player in his place. That's more or less the equation.

because despite his early all-star selections and constant media hype, the truth is that he's a second banana at best. I don't want him to find a second banana situation in the West, because the West is insanely tough, but if he does it out East, more power to him.

And yeah -- I'd call Love the second banana on basically every Western playoff team, if not third in some cases.

I am guessing they are thinking because he is a talented player and would instantly be the best NBA talent on our team (or 1B if you really like MCW).

That said, it don't work for us because you have to throw the max at him to even entice PHX to not match (which they probably will anyway). I like Bledsoe but he is not a max money guy for our situation. It will greatly reduce our flexibility. He fits in so much better on a squad that has their "franchise guy(s)" and is looking to add a piece. That certainly isn't us.

Even guys who are UFAs but not quite in that top tier seem to be playing wait and see. Of course I would like to see the Sixers pursue some of these guys, the younger ones like Bledsoe and Monroe.

lebron is gonna make 2/3 of what jordan made 20 years ago, franchises are worth many times what they were 20 years ago, and they still get to complain about signing mid-level players to "ridiculous" "overpaid" contracts when it's time to strangle the players in the next CBA round.

Which is why the Mavs cap space isn't tied up since they can re-sign Dirk after they complete the Parsons signing.

Offer sheet: The player currently has an offer sheet pending; if the first year's salary of that offer sheet is greater than the QO, then the value of the first year of the offer sheet is used as the cap hold.

@MarkDeeksNBA
No. So they have three days to use their cap space. RT @sstewart1617 Does this increase Parsons Cap hold for Rockets during the 3 days?
6:05 PM - 9 Jul 2014

...

and here's larry last night on twitter :

https://twitter.com/LarryCoon

So let's do some math. Suppose Houston dumps Lin & Asik with $0 coming back. They renounce Daniels, Garcia & Hamilton. They waive Casspi
...Beverley, Covington & Powell. They keep QO to Parsons & Capela's draft rights. They have Dwight, Harden, Jones, Motiejunas & Canaan.
..With that configuration, they can give Bosh $16,427,992. Pretty short of his $20,644,400 max.
So let's renounce Capela & Parsons. Cap room rises to $19,279,451. STILL short of a max offer, and they don't have rights to Parsons.
To keep Parsons' rights & still sign Bosh to max, they have to dump another $3,732,744 in guaranteed salary. That's Jones AND Motiejunas.
So to get Bosh at max AND keep Parsons, Daryl Morey just needs to dump Asik, Lin, Jones AND Motiejunas with no salary coming he other way,
...along with throwing overboard everything that's not bolted down.

...

so as far as i know, parsons' cap hit during the waiting period is still just the QO ($1,760,350, 190% of his previous salary)

-QO: The player is a restricted free agent, but NOT coming off of the rookie salary scale; their cap hold is for the value of their qualifying offer.

-Offer sheet: The player currently has an offer sheet pending; if the first year's salary of that offer sheet is greater than the QO, then the value of the first year of the offer sheet is used as the cap hold.

That said....good lord, $15+ a year for Parsons? Insane.

but Morey has told Chandler, look, that's the business. Keep playing and you can get your contract in free agency. What happened with Boozer was an odd situation where he convinced Cleveland to release him early, so that Cleveland could "make him whole" or whatever (basically Cleveland was going to give Boozer the raise he deserved), but by doing that Carlos became unrestricted and bounced straight out of town.

Chandler is restricted. If Morey wants to retain him, he just has to match. It's much more similar to the Batum situation, where the Blazers always wanted to retain him but Nic and his agent had to use the market to set a fair price.

But basically if Morey wants to retain Parsons, he can. It's not similar to the Boozer situation at all.

From what I've heard, Parsons wasn't in on the option being declined. Boozer and the Cavs had a handshake agreement that Booz walked away from. The Rockets, on the other hand, turned down the option with their sights on other guys and never had any agreement with Parsons that they'd re-sign him afterwards.

And then this entire offseason they've been courting other players who might make Chandler unnecessary. It's not like they were showing Parsons all of this loyalty and then he spit in their face. They opted not to pick up his option, he became an RFA, they negotiated and couldn't agree, so Chandler went elsewhere and got a ridiculous offer from Dallas that would be hard pressed to turn down.

what is there to "wait" about? That's practically MAX money. The agent doesn't even need to make 29 other phone calls before they say yes to that. Just call the other handful of teams with more cap room than that, ask if they want to pay Chandler more than $15M/yr Y/N? Then when that's done, take Dallas' offer.

He's not going to wait around and have Dallas spend the money on someone else. I have no problem with players going for theirs. I'm still stunned Wade gave up the money he did.

>'agree' to this putting rockets in a fucked up situation when
>they looked out for him on the RFA tip . i'm sure morey had
>some kind of gentlemen agreement with him

I think they did have something worked out since Parsons and Dwight also share an agent.

But I think all this Bron shit has caused things to be more drawn out than expected.

Parsons waited as long as he could. Dallas mighta been like now or never. Once other dominoes fall parsons could get stuck.

Word is they negotiated all day.

What I wonder is whether Rockets contacted Deng after things fell apart or if talking to Deng caused things to fall apart.

End of Day Deng for 7-8 mil is a lot more worth it than parsons at 15. But Parsons did mean a lot to the culture and locker room of this team.

I just listened to the most recent BS Report with Z-Lo, and Bill was going on about how, "I don't understand why GMs don't sign restricted free agents to big offer sheets just to fuck with their team. Like why doesn't someone just sign Chandler Parsons to a MAX deal to throw a wrench in Morey's whole Bosh play?" (note: he prattled on about similar dumbass shit last year w/r/t Nikola Pekovic) Bill adds, "If I was a GM, I'd be tweaking other teams all the time! Just sign people to mess with other teams!"

uhhhh, Bill? Have you seriously not thought through why this is a bad idea? Because the other team can just DECLINE to match and then you're stuck with a dumbass contract. Like it appears we have with the Mavs here. Yes, it will hurt the Rockets, but when you put Morey in a situation where his choices are Chandler Parsons at $15M per or no Chandler Parsons, you know what? That's a pretty easy decision. Dallas can have him. The Rockets are crazy if they match that, because it's a bad contract, even if they don't necessarily use that cap $ to sign Bron or Melo.

you can jam a team up but you have to be very selective. signing pekovic and parsons to kobe's contract is not selective.

in the NHL edmonton did it briefly but in all cases they were willing to get stuck with the players. they kind of screwed buffalo but looking at the return they ultimately for vanek, it was fine. they did ultimately screw themselves, because they wound up with dustin penner as a "marquee player" who managed 20 goals and a minus 20 for $5M a year.

i remember some hubub about bob clarke signing ryan kesler to an offer sheet, but the sheet was modest enough that i thought nothing of it personally.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

If you narrow the list to just guys who have done it both seasons, he's only one of four players (Bron, Durant, and Blake are the others), and he did it in his first two seasons of starters minutes.

That's some pretty solid company. He's a young player that can do several things well and shoot at a high percentage with range. He's not worth $15 million a year, but he's not a scrub either.

Both Dmo and Lin are guys who you can audition and see whether you want to keep. Theyre both relatively young and can be had for relatively cheap (after this Lin deal ends).

Of course playing in Brown's system may inflate stats a bit, but I think both guys are talented and a good fit for a young team.

At Phillys perceived best, DMO could develop into a nice bench big. He shares a lot of similarities with Saric (though not as much of a banger) might have more true 3 skills on offense. He hasnt done enough to warrant a big contract.

Jeremy on the other hand will probably get a more regular 6-8 mil a year next time around-unless he completely blows up in Philly. He' can share guard duties and start or come off the bench.

In all of Hinkie's building you should hope he's learned one thing from Morey, that assets are good to a certain extent, but imo Moreys biggest flaw is overfiddling and trading. We havent had a chance for any team in the Morey era to really build a chemistry past 2 seasons. As much important as it is to acquire top tier talent, getting them to learn how to play with each other is just as important.

Interestingly enough ive read Jeremy might just get waived but a lot of 6er fans on Liberty Ballers seem to not think so and actually want him --which is a180 degree turn to the fan reaction in Houston from the day he was signed. Maybe its cause Philly fans had a front seat view of what happened during that time they call "Linsanity".

I see no reason to waive Lin, you actually need to field a team at some point. If he plays decent enough, he should be a tradable asset at the deadline. If you can't trade him, he walks at the end of the year. He isn't going to help enough to stop Operation Tank 2015.

at least as far as his situation. He didn't get a lot of burn there and he won't see much opportunity behind Lowry.

When he was playing stater mins in New Orleans he had the most assists in the league. Surely he could have gone someplace where he could get more pt.

LeBron James has all the information he needs from teams and will no longer take meetings, according to David Aldridge of NBA.com.
The report has been confirmed by USA Today's Sam Amick, Marc Spears of Yahoo!, and ESPN's Chris Broussard, so these reports are almost factual. LeBron met with Heat president Pat Riley on Wednesday and didn't make a decision, so that will go down as one of the most important free agent meetings in NBA history. It's certainly interesting that he won't meet with the Cavs (unless a secret meeting went down last weekend) because David Blatt is new to being an NBA coach and David Griffin is their new general manager. Hopefully, he'll have a decision in the next couple days.

In response to Reply # 0

Because if he does, how much does that extra year/30 mil really matter?

Now of course it matters quite a bit if he would choose
not to opt out because if he did no one is paying him that
kind of money for one season, especially that late in his career.

But if he signs another 5 yr deal 3 years from now he would
be getting more money later in his career on that deal at 33
than he would signing a new deal at 35, so how much more is
it really?

But maybe he trusts the Knicks (Phil) and likes living/playing there and its not just the money.

As much as I'd personally like to see him playing for
the Bulls it might not be the best idea given the big
question mark that is Derrick Rose's knees. I still
wouldn't be at all mad if he went there though. IMO he
doesn't go anywhere unless he can team up with LeBron,
which I don't see happening even though it would be the
best option for them both.

Hopefully both Melo and Bron use player options and team up
in Philly with all the budding superstars on that roster in
3 yrs.

At least that would be my wish. I know Joel is optimistic.

In response to Reply # 0

http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2123962-chris-sheridan-on-why-theres-a-90-chance-lebron-james-returns-to-cleveland

The Decision has been made. LeBron James is returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a league source tells SheridanHoops.com.

James met with Miami Heat president Pat Riley today in Las Vegas to deliver the news. A contingent of other Heat officials were informed they were not welcome at the meeting, according to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

An official announcement will be made on www.lebronjames.com, as I first reported yesterday.

For Cleveland, this is one of the most important days in the citys sports history. No pro team has won a title of any kind since the Browns won the NFL Championship in 1964, and now there is a distinct possibility that the 50-year drought can end. James will be joining a team led by Kyrie Irving, who just agreed to a five-year contract extension, along with Andrew Wiggins, the No. 1 pick in last months draft.

It is a young core that will grow older with James as their tutor and leader, and he returns to Cleveland as a grown man who has learned what it takes to win.

For Miami, it is the end of an era a four-year period in which a superteam was constructed and went to four straight NBA Finals.

Why is this happening? It comes down to LeBron building a legacy, which leads us to three points:

There is nothing left for him to accomplish in Miami. He went there for four years, he went to the NBA Finals all four years, and he won two titles while learning what it takes to be a champion. Nobody can ever take that away from him.
A chance to return home as a successful, seasoned adult with a chance to deliver the city of Cleveland its first championship since 1964 is too much of a legacy opportunity for James to pass up.
And another thing: With all due respect to Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, the best player he has a chance to team up with is named Kyrie Irving.
In todays biggest piece of news from the morning, the Cavs cleared the cap space to make a max offer to LeBron by dealing away Jarrett Jack, Sergei Karasev, Tyler Zeller and a 2016 first-round pick in a three-way trade with Boston and Brooklyn.

Today, all eyes have turned to Las Vegas, where James opened his annual summer camp, then held his meeting with Riley.

Once James makes his intentions known publicly (and the same goes for Carmelo Anthony, who reportedly will stay with the New York Knicks), the free agency dam is going to burst.

Greg Monroe, Pau Gasol, Trevor Ariza, Luol Deng, Lance Stephenson. They are all going to lock up their deals in a very short span of time, and it is going to be madness.

We have been telling you for weeks that Cleveland is in the hunt for James. Some have dismissively scoffed at the notion. Others have surveyed the landscape, summoned their inner Spock and said: Why not?

James traveled Monday to Las Vegas, and a source who has been briefed on James free agency maneuverings told SheridanHoops that James inner circle, from his wife, Savannah to his agent, Rich Paul, to his best friends, Maverick Carter and Randy Mims, are unanimous in their belief that James best move is a return to the team he played for from 2003-2010.

Fans in Cleveland have been holding their collective breath, and now they can exhale. The chance for the citys first championship in any major professional sport since 1964 is now a distinct possibility.

The Cavs were the only team able to offer James something no one else could: Redemption. Let us not forget that we are reaching the four-year anniversary of taking my talents, Jim Gray, Cavs fans burning jerseys and Dan Gilbert wrongly predicting more championships for Cleveland than Miami in his infamous comic sans stream-of-consciousness Internet post a post that was purged from the Cavs Web site overnight Sunday.

Never has the balance of power in the NBA hung in the balance quite the way it does now. OK, it was a similar situation four years ago regarding the balance of power, and we all were witnesses to how much sway The Chosen One holds over our beloved Association. Now, it is a question of whether he can turn a young nucleus led by Kyrie Irving and Andrew Wiggins into championship material.

Cuban in ClevelandThe man who has been greasing the skids for this epic event is James agent, Rich Paul, who has been meeting with potential suitors in Cleveland during the first week of the NBAs moratorium on signings and trades, which expires July 10. Much of Pauls work has been taking place under the radar, although there have been clues, such as Mavericks owner Mark Cuban being spotted in northeast Ohio. The Lakers had a stealth meeting Friday, and the Rockets and Suns also spoke with Paul.

Les isnt afraid to eat Tax money to win. It'd be a big tax though. I dont think Morey minds paying Parsons 15 milly to be a #4, but paying him 15 million to be a #3 cripples us big time if that makes any sense.

We cant pay parsons if we lose bosh. I dont think Morey is that dumb.

Either way we can explore Deng and Ariza who are cheaper but we'd have to decide fast if the Bron/Bosh decisionis made.

parsons has already removed his rockets background and shit of his twitter page so maybe its imminent.

They won't have the cap space to go after guys like Ariza and Deng. They could only sign Parsons because they control his Bird Rights. Giving Bosh the max caps the Rockets out, can only sign players to vet minimum and maybe a mini MLE after that.

But thats all cap related. Parsons is RFA so we can match whatever he gets and go over the cap. We have to trade Lin to create space for Bosh, but after Bosh signs, I believe we'll be maxed out. I dont know if we can get Deng or Ariza--but we can go over the cap to match Parsons.

We'd still have

Bev
Harden
Parsons
Bosh
Tjones
Dwight
Casspi
Capelo
Canaan
Covington
Troy
Nick Johnson

I might have to put in Minutes I expect every player to play so RBO doesnt have a fuckin heart attack.

Oh wait in my configuration above I have 12 starters and 0 bench OMGOMGOMG

In response to Reply # 205

and here's larry last night on twitter :

https://twitter.com/LarryCoon

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

The only reason we can pay Parsons is because hes RFA and he can go over the cap to match him.

The Rockets will match Chandler Parson's offer sheet if they are able to land Chris Bosh, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
Parsons signed a 3-year, $45 million offer sheet with the Mavericks on Wednesday and the Rockets will match that offer sheet if they are able to pry Bosh away from the Heat. The puzzle pieces get a little more complicated if Bosh stays with Miami and matching the offer sheet would become a "close call", according to Feigen. LeBron James' destination would seemingly be the first domino that will set off this chain of events, so we'll be closely monitoring his decision and its concurrent ripple effects.

do anything significant.

not sure what bosh 1st year salary would be but i'd assume their big 3 would be around 55mil this season.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

the fact they haven't traded lin now before securing bosh suggests if bosh falls thru they might decide to keep lin (then match parsons)

edit: nvm hoopshype is showing lin contract as 14 mil cap hit: http://hoopshype.com/salaries/houston.htm , that shit wrong

So if they dont get a max guy they keep him.
How does that suggest they match parsons?

Itd be a totally emotional Morey decision if he matches Parsons and handcuffs the franchise. Matching Parsons as our 3rd best player immediately hurts us for the next 3 years.

even if parsons is overpriced, he's a good player and an asset that they will be able to retain now but they won't be able to add another one like him once bosh is there. so it's a classic case of being forced to overpay in order to keep your own players, but it makes their team better.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

In response to Reply # 0

Interesting to see Donnie saying he can help both sides win with a S&T though...

I can just see the comedy.

Remember the stories about the Knicks hiding when the Lin deal was happening.

The Dallas Mavericks haven't submitted Chandler Parsons' offer sheet to the Rockets as of Thursday afternoon.
This is good news for the Rockets as don't have the 72-hour countdown ticking as they wait for Chris Bosh's decision on their max contract offer. The Mavericks are reportedly waiting to submit the offer sheet in case a sign-and-trade materializes that general manager Donnie Nelson thinks could help both teams. "Theres ways that both sides can win, so its just an ongoing process," Nelson said on Thursday. It is assumed that Houston will match Parsons' offer sheet if Bosh decides to join the Rockets, but this situation is just another that has been put in LeBron stand-by mode.

I agree 15 mil is too much---everyone does.

But Parsons has been a crucial piece of the team past few seasons.

Kosher Sam posted about his stats last 2 years- he's in good company and he also helped us get Dwight last summer.

This whole thing is like calling up your high school sweetheart that you dumped at the altar for a stripper. You don't open that door unless you're 100% certain you're ready to walk back through it.

i understand cleveland fans getting their hopes up again, but are they really gonna be mad at him if he re-signs with the team he just went to 4 straight finals with? that would be even more pathetic than their response to the decision. and it's not his fault the cavs are clearing room for him preemptively.

Plenty of those types of guys in the workplace.

Shouldn't shock anyone that he would want to play with Cleveland's roster while willfully ignoring the elephant in the room. Cleveland provides him with the money and the easiest way to get back into the finals next year.

Some look at it as a former potential GOAT candidate unable/unwilling to make it work with the all stars already in place around him. He needs younger and (potentially) more all stars around him to get it done. It's just a different (and more pussified) mentality than the OG GOAT's.

He's trolling at this point and it's obvious. All he has to say is "I appreciate all the support from Cleveland Cavs fans but at this point I need to do what's best for my career and family. The best thing I can do for all parties is to win rings. Therefore, I will sign with a new team (or return to the Miami Heat). Cleveland will always be a part of me and I still have strong ties to the community. Thank you for all the support Cleveland and have a great night".

He should ask Gilbert to resurrect Gilbert Arenas and sign him to a 10 year deal at the press conference. As soon as Agent Zero signs he can rip off his Cavs jersey and show his Heat jersey on some NWO shit. FUCK IT GO FULL HEEL LEBRON. Come out to the press conference with a black beard so we know it's real.

This whole damn FA period has just become an annoyance. There had damn well better be some dramatic moves once that Lebron domino falls. I'm starting to hate him just for holding the whole damn offseason hostage.

Hell of a deal for the Suns.
Who the fuck is PJ's agent. Fire his ass. Given the deals guys are getting this is a bargain.
Sure he wants to stay in Phx, but they have the fuckin capspace.

The Suns will re-sign forward P.J. Tucker to a three-year, $16.5 million deal.
Considering some of the other deals being shelled out lately, this is a very good one for the Suns. Tucker outplayed his contract last year which paid him less than $1 million, but he turned out to be one of the better perimeter defenders in the NBA while adding a nice long-range game on offense. He'll be looking at a similar role next season unless rookie T.J. Warren usurps his playing time.

In response to Reply # 0

http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamiheat/story/_/id/11201955/dan-gilbert-letter-issue-lebron-james

One reason, if not the major reason, that LeBron James has taken so long to decide whether to play in Miami or Cleveland next season is the infamous letter Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert penned about James after the superstar left Cleveland in 2010, sources said.

In the letter, written in Comic Sans font, Gilbert called James a "coward" and mocked the many nicknames and catchphrases attached to James, such as "King James," "The Chosen One" and "Witness."

The letter remained on the Cavs' website for the past four years until the team removed it earlier this week.

While James recognizes that informing Cavs fans and Gilbert, who was told of James' decision to leave Cleveland in a telephone call five minutes before it was announced, on national television was a mistake, he is still wrestling with whether or not to return to play for Gilbert's team.

"If it wasn't for that letter, this would've been done awhile ago," one source said.

While there have been rumblings about Gilbert and James clearing up their differences in the past, no such discussion or meeting has ever been confirmed. What is known is that Gilbert has never issued a public apology to James.

Sources close to James said Thursday that the four-time MVP wanted to speak with his family before making his decision. Many around the NBA have wondered what there was left to talk about, but James' concerns about the Gilbert letter is a plausible explanation.

While league executives wait for James to make his announcement, many refuse to believe he'll return to Cleveland to play for Gilbert. Some even believe it would be hypocritical after how powerfully James spoke out against Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling after racist comments by Sterling were made public in May.

James was the first player to speak out against Sterling, saying he had no place in the NBA.

LOL...I don't think the owners can do anything about it. The only thing the owners can SUGGEST is put a time limit on when a player can sign, so this doesn't get dragged out. But doing that handcuffs their own GM's...so this might be something they just gotta live with

The only thing that bothered me about the letter being a problem is comparing the whole thing to Donald Sterling. An owner, however douchey he might be, can be MAD without being a RACIST. To say Lebron coming back to play for a Gilbert owned team makes him a hypocrite is really reaching

will come up during the next cba.

They might want to institute a rule where a free agent must sign a max deal or a deal that goes beyond a certain dollar value by July XX. That's actually pretty reasonable imo. That wouldn't handcuff GM's at all.

As far as the letter still being there i'm sure someone in bron's camp knew..thereby he knew. You think he just found out about it yesterday or something?

Can't disagree with that. Put a timetable on that. I was thinking if they give such a short timetable for ALL FA's, then the GM's are screwed. If you put a timetable on the limit of a max (or X dollar amount) of a FA signing, then it would help most everyone.
However, the max player is forced to make a huge life decision with a tough timetable (although it's done all the time in the corporate world)

Not necessarily that, but I doubt if anyone in his camp was checking out the Cleveland Cavalier website until Lebron opted out and Cleveland became a viable option. So it definitely could've been there for a minute and Lebron wouldn't have known until recently

About the letter, I personally think LEbron and his camp have known prior to the season ending that cleveland is in play. Should've done due diligence about the letter at that point since it was such a big deal. Just my opinion tho.

while the whole Sterling fiasco was panning out

I would think a possible contingency for Bron returning is a public letter of apology from Dan and we know that ain't happening without a fight

In response to Reply # 317

you think they are haggling over that detail and thats the holdup?

That would be pretty idiotic of Gilbert AND pretty foolish of bron to be okay with coming back provided that Gilbert issues a written public apology that he had to fight for 2 days to get lol.

"twisted power play"...?

Nah...It's a strong, intelligent, and logical power play....

When you are in a league in which executives/owners are doing press conferences about players needing to sacrifice paper to win--AND--then come out their mouth about players running for the door at the first sign of trouble, what do you think is going to happen?

James and his team are showing the NBA that players still hold power after getting dusted by their last bargaining deal...

No one ever says that owners need to make sacrifices. But players are expected to give up millions to win a ring...

It is what it is...Fuck the owners...

all it does is remind the owners that the players have too much power, lets try to get some back next time around lol.

The players aren't really gaining anything by this except giving the owners (& fans) a headache.

They are gaining a lot. They are simply letting the owners know that while they came out the wrong end of that deal they still hold power...

And when it comes to the workers vs. owners, I know who I will always root for...

But more than that...This is James making a personal business statement as well...He's not only giving a middle finger the owners, but he's looking out for HIS future.

Again, I got no beef with this...At all. If the media/fans wants to continue to be obsessive and have wet dreams over the shit as they drive the narrative, that's not James/NBA players' problem....

but specifically i think the owners are gonna be like f that. The players still have too much power...we need to reign in it.

You think the next bargaining session will be the owners reflecting on this time thinking yeah the players are the ones with the power, lets give them more money too?

Dude's basically put out a rumor about every option at this point. Sadly, Broussard style "Hear a rumor, report it without any further follow up" seems to be the future of the Twitterfied, 24 hours news cycle.
