"NBA FAGENCY 2014"

Is there a post for general talk and small moves and such? I didn't see one on page 1.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

The Detroit Pistons have reportedly offered restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas a 3-year contract worth $24 million.

Thomas is a restricted free agent, so the Kings will have a chance to match the Pistons' offer, but there have also been rumblings that Sacramento views Thomas as more of a sixth man so it's possible they deem this offer too rich for their liking. It will be interesting to see if Detroit can unload Brandon Jennings if they are able to land Thomas, IT2 would become an interesting fantasy option if he ends up starting alongside Josh Smith, Andre Drummond, and potentially Greg Monroe.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I think NBA fans need to readjust our barometer for good/bad deals. Typically I'd say no way IT2 is worth $8 mil a year, but with the cap raising every year, we gotta realize that the guys who would have been making $5-6 mil a few years back are going to be making $7-8 mil now.

If IT2's your 4th best player, then good for you, but I think on a good team he could be Bobby Jackson 2.0 (that's a compliment)

Detroit is offering more because a) it's Detroit and b) unless they can find a taker for Jennings, Zeke is looking at splitting minutes whereas he could be happier with 6 million in LA starting for the Lakers.

Drum's shot blocking took a dip from yr 1 to yr 2

And as much as I really like Monroe as a building block, his rotations after guys got into the lane were horrible.

Still...I like it. He's doing Calvin Murphy numbers at this point and that lifetime 36% from 3 looks extra nice after last yr.

Singler is a perfect fit for SVG but outside of him, Ive had the feeling that Pistons arent necessarily committed to having a traditional SF.

A 3 guard lineup is in the pistons future if they commit to Moose

And a 41% shooter from deep who can PNR like Dinwiddie will get an honest opportunity

5. "LOL Blatche"
In response to Reply # 0

Dude had a decent past 2 seasons he shouldve been able to parlay that at least just a little bit, but nope

Nets general manager Billy King said the Nets haven't reached out to unrestricted free agent Andray Blatche.
King told reporters that he had reached out to the Nets' own free agents, but when asked about Blatche, he replied, ""Uh ... no." Blatche had an Instagram post that said "F--- Brooklyn" on Saturday that he claimed was the result of his account being hacked, but it's unclear if that has anything to do with the lack of contact between he and the team. Regardless, it seems unlikely that Blatche will be returning to the Nets. The 27-year-old averaged 11.2 points, 5.3 boards, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks last season and could end up being a decent late-round pick if he finds himself in the right situation and keeps his head on straight.

In response to Reply # 0

The Thunder are indeed paying into the revenue-sharing system, rare for such a tiny market, but theyre slated to make nearly $29 million in profit when everything is netted out. Thats the fifth-best projection in the league, trailing only the Lakers ($100.1 million), Bulls ($61 million), Rockets ($40.7 million), and Celtics ($33.1 million). Again: This memo does not capture the complete financial picture for any organization, but between this estimated profit and the general escalating value of all NBA franchises, its fair to take these numbers into account when debating the Thunders decision to trade James Harden and duck the luxury tax.

In response to Reply # 0

though I dont know how he meshes with that tea personality wise.

Spencer Hawes has emerged as the Trail Blazers' top target in free agency.
Blazers' general manager Neil Olshey and coach Terry Stotts visited representatives for Hawes in Los Angeles late Monday night shortly after free agency began and the meeting "went very well", according to reports. The most that Portland can offer the unrestricted free agent is $5.3 million per year over four years, so Hawes would be taking a bit of a pay cut from the $6.5 million he earned last season if he signs with the Blazers. The 26-year-old averaged 13.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season and would continue to be a solid mid-level fantasy big man if he signs with Portland.

Derrick Rose (knee) is scheduled to be part of the Bulls' pitch to Carmelo Anthony on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the meeting.
Rose had recently said he wouldn't take part in recruiting players to come play for the Bulls, so this is a bit of a reversal of course for the Bulls' star. It's unclear whether he will attend Anthony's meeting with the Bulls' front office or if he'll simply place a phone call, but either option can't do anything but help the Bulls' chances to land Melo. Rose's camp had previously told Anthony's camp that the former would welcome the latter's signing in Chicago, but we'll have to wait and see if Rose's participation in the recruitment makes any difference.

In response to Reply # 0

With so many players on the verge of signing new deals due to free agency, the players union issued a warning on Tuesday, advising them to use a provision during the 2016-17 season that will allow players to be paid out over 18 months instead of a year, in case there's a work stoppage in the summer of 2017.
Being paid out over 18 months for that season would likely keep paychecks coming throughout an entire work stoppage, if it were to happen. Both players and owners have the ability to opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement after the 2016-17 season, and the memo can be looked at two ways. Either one or both sides are expecting a work stoppage in a couple years, or the union is simply doing its due diligence and giving the players sound advice, just in case. Either way, another work stoppage in the summer of 2017 is certainly a possibility.

If you know how to save, you don't need that provision anwyay...unless there's some interest tied to getting it over 18 months.

in particular his defense has improved...he's still not a solid defender, but he improved....

I mean.... good for him. He wasn't a priority to the lakers at all because we got multiple players who basically play the same position who are younger and who do more...in particular Swag and Xavier...even Wes Johnson...

that's starter money for Meeks so I guess he's gonna play the 2 for the Pistons...I guess.

but Nick Young opted out to get a multiple year deal WITH THE LAKERS....

he stated he wanted to re-sign with the Lakers...and stated that he was open to a hometown discount...

Mitch has stated that re-signing Nick is a priority..

so that's pretty much the opposite of what you said...lol.

hear..

here's nick's quotes

Just more years. I believe I deserve more, Young said Wednesday in an interview with this newspaper. That's up to my agent to do that for me. The Lakers are home, but things could happen. With free agency this year, it's going to be crazy to see.

Young did not outline what dollar figure he wanted, though he joked he told Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak that he needs two years at $50 million to come back. The Lakers signed Bryant for the next two years worth $48.5 million. Young sounded serious about considering a hometown discount.

It depends how much the discount is, Young said. But as a player, everyone wants a place they feel comfortable at. I feel comfortable in L.A. But I can't keep taking these discounts. I need a raise a little bit. But if it's for the right cost and they're bringing in players and I fit into the rotation, then I'll probably take a pay cut.

His contract is gonna be worse than Gortat's relative to the market values for their positions.

With $10 invested in SF and Webster untradable, they need to find out what the #3 pick in the draft can do.

And I'm not sure who they are going to get for 7 million (especially given the current market) to replace him at SF. Martell Webster is also injured now so if they lose Ariza, they'll have to find a way to land a SF with little besides Porter as trade bait.

the salary's fair but 5 years is too much.

how I talked myself into it:

a) this makes it harder to similarly reward ariza
b) Gortat doesn't have a lot of mileage
c) if he does break down the next CBA will have an amnesty just like the last 2.

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nba-free-agency-the-crop-from-day-1/

Just tossing out the 14 teams figure exaggerates the amount of cap room truly floating around. Some of those 14 teams have no desire to spend on 30-year-old centers Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Orlando, Utah. Two of them, Houston and Chicago, have to execute big moves in order to seize double-digit cap space, and theyre both having expensive meals with Anthony. Detroit has a center; the Spurs wont really have cap room once they take care of their own free agents; Boston has basically zero cap flexibility after agreeing on a bigger-than-expected four-year, $32 million deal with Avery Bradley this morning; and Gortat wouldnt appear to fit the all-shooting, all-the-time project under construction in Atlanta.

Phoenix already had Gortat, and theres no indication it wanted him back. Dallas got its center last week in the Tyson Chandler deal, removing the Gortat destination the Wiz feared most.

There were other teams out there, and its an NBA front-office clich that it only takes one asshole to screw up the market for any particular player. Cleveland has cap room, and with the league bizarrely getting into a slap fight over Spencer Hawes, it might need a center. Charlotte kicked the tires on Brook Lopez and Omer Asik over the last two years, but its overcrowded with bigs after drafting Noah Vonleh, and the lane would be mighty cramped with Gortat and Al Jefferson in an old-school jostle-off for space.

Washington had to at least consider those teams, plus the threat of Miami opening up $10 million in space and tempting Gortat with rings and beaches. The league regards a Lakers team with cap room like a rabid raccoon.

Gortat is 30 years old and last year was like the first full season of starting games he's made because he was behind DHo in Orlando, there was a lockout Phoenix's first year starting & he missed some time in the season before he got to the Wiz.

He is a seven-foot starting center who can score in the post, pass, rebound, shoot free-throws solidly for a big and occupy space who gives you 13 & 10 a night with a block or two and an assist or two.

The money he got is well within market for that and they needed to keep him while they're about to be married to their backcourt at max-money for each.

What they *don't* need to do is sign Trevor Ariza to a contract when they drafted a wing to play with said backcourt third overall the year before but who was hurt to start last season & then never saw the court because Whitman was coaching for his job & had Ariza/Webster in there over him.

I think it's pretty clear that the 2012-13 season was him playing for what likely to be the last "big" and multiple year contract of his career. He played just well enough to get a solid journeyman contract and chose the team who give him the most money, which was almost inevitably going to be a bad team (see: Carl Landry). Now he'll play out the rest of his deal, until he becomes a trade able expiring contract.

In response to Reply # 0

That basically puts the Spurs/Knicks/Warriors/Heat out of the running.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/pau-gasol-speaks-to-heat-president-pat-riley-013436406.html

Free-agent center Pau Gasol had a telephone conversation with Miami Heat president Pat Riley on Tuesday and could talk again with the franchise in the near future, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The cost for Gasol could still be prohibitive for the Heat, but there's little doubt he could be an intriguing part to a supporting cast in Miami. So far, Gasol is still pushing for a $10 million-$12 million annual salary, league sources said.

The NBA champion San Antonio Spurs have inquired with Gasol's agent Arn Tellem, expressing an interest, sources said, but the Spurs can't become a legitimate suitor unless Gasol significantly drops his asking price.

Gasol met with Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and ultimately they could become his best chance to get his asking price, if only on a one-year contract.

Gasol has spent the past six seasons with the Lakers, where he averaged 17.4 points and 9.7 rebounds last season.

Z-Bo just got extended (2yr/20mill)so the Grizz are out of the equation.

Realistically his best chance at getting paid 10-12mill per & playing w/ a contender is via a sign-&-trade.

I doubt Pau would have been able to D up Dirk/LMA/Z-Bo as well as Splitter in the past 2 post-seasons. The Spurs were only going to offer Pau the MLE after resigning Diaw/Patty.....basically Pau would have been part of a 4 man rotation: Tim/Pau/Diaw/Tiago (It would have given Pop the luxury of resting Tim for the post-season run).

yeah obviously it would be better to have all four. i see some tradeoffs with pau/splitter. but yeah given tim's ability to work the high and low posts, i think splitter as a complement to him on D is probably more valuable, especially factoring in age/mileage

In response to Reply # 0

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/basketball/san-antonio-spurs-player-patty-mills-out-with-injury-for-seven-months-20140702-zstap.html

A shoulder injury has forced a devastated Patrick Mills to withdraw from Australia's world cup campaign as the NBA championship-winner faces up to seven months out of action.

Fairfax Media can reveal Mills will have surgery in the coming days to repair the rotator cuff in his right shoulder.

Mills played through pain during the season and scans revealed the wear and tear injury just two weeks after he helped lift the San Antonio Spurs to an NBA title and on the first day of free agency.

Mills is shattered at the news which will see him miss what looms as Australia's best chance to win a medal at a major international tournament.

The World Cup is in Spain from August 30 to September 14.

It is unknown how the injury will affect Mills' contract negotiations.

The 25-year-old Canberran was set for the biggest pay day of his career after having a breakout season in the world's best league.

Some experts predicted Mills' next contract would be worth up to $5 million after the best season of his five-year NBA career.

But his shoulder injury will rule him out of the first three months of the 2014-15 NBA campaign.

Mills starred as the back up point guard to Tony Parker and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich credited the former Marist College student for San Antonio's title run.

He scored 17 points in limited court time in game five of the NBA Finals to lift the Spurs to a triumph.

It is understood Mills will miss between six and seven months as he goes through a strict rehabilitation.

Devin Harris was in a similar situation last summer. He had signed a contract for 3yr/9mill but the contract was voided once it was discovered he would require off-season surgery. He ended up signing a one year deal for the vet minimum.

I would assume if Patty is getting low-balled he will only sign a one year deal then test the market next summer. The Spurs were also in talks w/ Young God before this news broke thus they might also be looking for alternatives.....I wouldn't mind Jameer if he's healthy.

He can definitely sign a cheap 1 yr deal w/ the Spurs w/ the expectation of him being ready to go for the post-season run (ala Devin Harris). If he signs elsewhere he's only going to have no more than 2 months to get in shape, learn a new system & earn a spot on the post-season rotation. W/ the Spurs all he has to worry about is getting in shape & finding his rhythm within a 2 month window....there is ALWAYS a spot for shooters in the Spurs system.

http://nypost.com/2014/07/01/bulls-put-on-full-court-press-for-carmelos-visit/

Rose, who has played 50 games in three seasons, had created waves by saying Sunday it isnt my job to recruit Anthony. But Bulls forward Joakim Noah convinced Rose to show up and speak to the Knicks superstar. A league source said the quiet Rose was engaging and that he worked out in front of Anthony to show his health.

Also on hand was Taj Gibson, the rugged power forward whose presence indicates the Bulls have no plans to dump his contract in order to open up max cap space for Anthony. The Post reported in Tuesdays editions Thibodeau doesnt want to trade Gibson, and the Chicago Tribune reported Gibson is against being dealt.

Anthony continued the tour by viewing the new practice facility across the street from United Center, which should open in time for the coming season. The meetings concluded with Bulls officials, reportedly along with Pippen, taking Anthony and his entourage to dinner. An ESPN Chicago report quoted a Bulls official as calling the meeting good.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Why say that on the heels of the Bulls meeting?

Did Bulls inquire? Did Melo say "y'all get me 19 and I'll come"?

Why take this stance NOW when it's been in the air for months now?

Why all this scuttlebutt about feeling good about Melo staying/bonding with Phil, we won't take booz?

There's been no talk like that against Houston or Dallas. It wasn't 'we won't take any trades'.

Hmmm... But then again, it's Broussard.

They will take back what they offered if it helps their bottom line...

The thing that Broussard makes clear is that the Bulls have not yet made any offers to the Knicks with Boozer involved...

But trust...Phil ain't stupid...Draft picks and Boozer's expiring contract with say Jimmy Buckets included will get the job done...Yeah, they want Taj...But that won't happen given that Melo wants him on the team if he signs up with the Bulls...

But of course, this is all moot. Because Melo is staying for the FAM/money...

i've read..melo doesn't want them to.

Gibson's presence is also significant because it has previously been reported that the Bulls would attempt to trade Gibson in order to create additional salary-cap space for Anthony. However, the Bulls stressed to Anthony that in order to be a legitimate title contender it is important for the club to retain both Gibson and Jimmy Butler.

According to a source, Anthony wants both players to stay even if it means that Anthony will have to sign for significantly less than the maximum the Knicks can offer, $129 million over five years. Coincidentally, the Knicks essentially gutted their roster to acquire Anthony from the Denver Nuggets in February of 2011, and Anthony realizes that he would have to make financial sacrifices if he wants to pursue a title with the Bulls.

>i've read..melo doesn't want them to.

On the real, I've heard different reports from the local Chi newspapers who I trust more than the New York tabloids...Reports that make it clear that Jimmy would be included in a deal for Melo IF a sign and trade was in the making with Boozer...

And really, you can find defensive wing players all around in the NBA...Melo will not balk at coming to the Bulls just because Jimmy Buckets (who is my dude...) would be included in a trade...lol...But Taj is another story...

U keep Taj and pick up a role player to do all the heavy defensive assignments against wing players...

But like I said...It's all moot anyway because Melo is staying...He doesn't want to uproot his kid AND he's not going to give up that money...

Of course, I will be cheesing like a mug if Melo does sign on to Thibs and crew...

In the article below, Butler is included in s scenario in which the Bulls would keep Taj and trade away some expiring contracts alongside Jimmy, ect to make the deal work...And really, one can use common sense on this one...It was Taj who was at the meeting, not Buckets...There is no mention in the article below about Butler being a no-go as stated in the NYC tabloid....The Bulls getting Melo will not hinge on their ability to keep Jimmy....If if does, the entire Bulls front office needs to be fired, pronto...

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/chi-derrick-rose-pitch-to-carmelo-anthony-20140701,0,3121099.story

"But perhaps the biggest moment of the Bulls' pitch for the six-time All-Star free agent came when Taj Gibson made his typically unassuming entrance at roughly 2:15 p.m.

When Tom Thibodeau said Monday that our players will be available to talk regarding free-agency pitches, the Bulls coach wasn't kidding. And Gibson's presence carries particular significance. Sources said both the Bulls and Anthony, should he choose Chicago, want to keep Gibson for a core that would significantly improve their chances for an Eastern Conference championship.

Barring the Knicks agreeing to engage in sign-and-trade talks, keeping Gibson and his $8million salary would limit Anthony's payday. Though sources have indicated the Bulls would be aggressive in making necessary moves if Anthony verbally committed, the Bulls would have to amnesty Carlos Boozer and trade Mike Dunleavy, Jimmy Butler and Anthony Randolph for a starting salary of $16.9million."

Basically, what I'm saying is that the Daily News report doesn't make sense...lol...At all...

And from all the Chi reports I've read about sign and trades for Melo Jimmy's name has come up A LOT...Taj has slowly become an untouchable in most of the write-ups (but that could change if the Bulls get desperate)

I know Bulls fans believe that we can fleece Feel and dem...But that's not going to happen...We have to give up something of value beyond expiring contracts...And Butler just happens to have serious value...Give 'em junk, some picks and Butler and make it happen...Try to keep Taj...And see what happens next...

You said the stories you've read specifically said xyz about butler but posted an article that didn't mention butler but we have to read between the lines or whatever lol

not saying you wrong...just wanted to see the article that you're going off of or are you just saying your opinion.

edit: what you linked from the article didnt mention butler but the article did mention s&t scenarios that included butler but didn't give me the impression that that is what the bulls are pursuing but just a scenario that could work.

I feel u...

I'm just going off of players who have been deemed untouchable in various reports when it comes to a Melo deal...I see Noah's name. I see Rose's name. And now I've been reading Taj's name...

Jimmy Buckets has not been mentioned as an untouchable....

So maybe I'm jumping to conclusions here...lol

that tribune link is describing a scenario where they'd be clearing cap room to sign carmelo outright. amnestying boozer, trading dunleavy / butler to teams with open cap space, etc.

a direct sign-and-trade w/ nyk is something different. that wouldn't involve guys like gibson or butler. that wouldn't make sense for chicago. carmelo's an unrestricted free agent, his team has no leverage. bulls aren't going to give up core starters in that situation. a s+t would just be a technicality to get him a better contract, ala bron and bosh technically being sign+traded to miami in 2010.

this isn't like the chris paul trade, or the proposed kevin love trades. those guys are/were still under contract, so their incumbent teams had leverage. you had to give up actual guys to get them. not so here.

OK...let me rephrase....The pieces I've been reading in Chicago outlets have said everyone not named Noah, Rose, and Taj r available for a trade when it comes to Melo....

That's all I'm going by...

And I agree with u...Bulls will not give up their core starters for Melo....Bulls have more leverage than the Knicks....This is all true...

And I hear u on the S&T thing...Loud and clear...But I thought the whole point in including someone like Jimmy would be to clear even more money to pay Melo...

But it really comes down to this: I just don't consider Jimmy a core "untouchable" player if we are going after Melo...And something tells me that the Bulls would send Jimmy on a first class ticket to NYC right now if it meant getting Melo...

If we can get Melo just by clearing space and trading junk and Jimmy to another team and sign Melo as a free agent, I'm all for it...But I just don't see that happening...

the first would be clearing room to sign carmelo outright. that one would involve amnestying boozer and selling off guys like gibson, dunleavy and butler for nothing to teams with open cap space. that one is _extremely_ unlikely to happen and i don't know why ppl discuss it so much. it's what the bulls did with hinrich in 2010 and they've already said point blank that they're not doing it again. carmelo's also said that he'd want butler and gibson (the latter particularly) on the roster to even consider signing with the team. so that's really a non-starter.

the second, much much more likely scenario would be the sign and trade. in that situation, carmelo would have to have decided he wanted to play for chicago and chicago only, and informed the knicks as much. the knicks would have to accommodate him, because at that point they know he's gone, they know that chicago if necessary can clear the space to sign him outright, and they're going to try to at least get an asset out of it. plus they can't afford to just screw the guy, they still have to deal with his agent with future clients, they have to worry about how they're perceived by other players, etc. it wouldn't benefit them in any way. they're not stupid and they're not vindictive. it's just business and they understand how it works.

the s+t option would most likely involve expiring/waivable contracts and draft picks. maybe the mirotic rights. but it would essentially be filler junk with one real asset. the bulls wouldn't be sending them core pieces like gibson or butler. they'll try to convince the knicks to take boozer, but as i previously said it's not a necessity, since they still have the amnesty card.

so it's not really about convincing melo to take some huge pay cut, like everyone keeps saying. the money wouldn't be that different, and he already understands that. it just comes down to him deciding he wants to play there. we'll see soon enough.

I'm hoping this^^^ happens....But as much as this sounds like a dream scenario, I just can't see Knicks accepting a trade that doesn't have either Niko (as u pointed out) OR Butler....I don't think we have the Knicks on some big game shit....It still takes two to tangle...

The positive though is such blockbuster deals r usually done with draft picks and junk and one primary player...The Bulls won't get hurt in such a trade...

Hopefully Melo can convince Lala to get on board...lol

chicago can just use amnesty on boozer. that'd put them ~12M under the cap. since teams below the cap aren't bound by the salary match requirement, they can just do a lopsided trade.

send new york 7M in salary -- say, dunleavy and anthony randolph's expirings, their 3 non-guaranteed contracts (james, brewer, amundsen) which are instantly waivable, and a 2015 1st for their trouble -- and take back melo starting at 19. that keeps NYK's '15 cap sheet clean, doesn't really increase their lux tax burden for next season, and gives them a pick to help jump start their rebuild. if dude is truly committed to leaving, then the knicks have no leverage and it's better than losing him for nothing. phil knows that.

as long as the bulls are willing to eat that last boozer year, it shouldn't be a problem. they'd obviously prefer to trade boozer rather than amnesty him, but that's not going to hold up the deal if carmelo lets them know that he wants to sign. paxson told waddle and silvy last week, unequivocally, no ifs or buts, that he 100% has permission from reinsdorf to amnesty boozer and eat that money if necessary.

salaries in a trade only need to match if both teams are over. if either team is under, that team isn't bound by the rules of salary matching and can take on addtl salary in the trade. only restriction is that they can't finish the trade being more than $100K over the cap.

happens all the time. remember g state was over last summer? they dumped biedrins and jefferson into utah's cap space for nothing so they could clear money to sign iggy.

i think there's 20 or so teams this summer w/ significant space. you'll see some of the ones who strike out in fagency renting out their cap space to teams in lux tax, picking up an asset in the deal.

In response to Reply # 0

The Celtics and restricted free agent SG Avery Bradley have agreed to terms on a four-year, $32 million contract, according to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald.
Boston had the right to match any contract offer for Bradley, but they presented him with a lucrative enough offer to bypass the restricted free agent process. He didn't come cheap, at $8 million per season, and the deal should help set the market for players like Isaiah Thomas and Lance Stephenson. Pesky defense has been Bradley's calling-card but he showed an expanded offensive game last season, averaging 14.9 points, 1.3 threes (39.5 percent from downtown), 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. He was a late-round fantasy value last year and hasn't played more than 64 games in any of his four seasons in the NBA, however, so there's some inherent risk in drafting him.

I like Bradley, but you just drafted your "backcourt of the future" and will continue to be loaded with picks, and oh yea, you have Rajon Rondo...

This move makes me believe that Rondo really is going to be dealt...

It just surprises me since Ainge's theory seems to be gear up to put together another title team, I'm surprised he'd invest 4 years @ 8 mil per to a guy who is never going to be a major big 3 type player and is at the same time blocking the youth movement

Rondo will be moved eventually and probably sooner than later. Ainge has never valued cap space and instead would rather throw the money at Bradley now to retain him as, if nothing else, an asset for trades.

neither is coming at a price they can afford.

It's gonna likely be the same with Ariza, who is their current top target.

After that they'll probably holla at Deng & see if he will give them a chip-possibility discount, something Ariza will likely have no reason to do.

The deal is a million more a year than you'd like but he's a great 3 and D guy. But he's struggled mightily when running the point. He won't need to do that as (now) Rondo and (later) Smart will handle that. Bradley's a good mix with Smart because at Marcus's weight, I'm not sure he can chase around PGs. AB can guard 1s and Smart will check SGs.

And I like the Smart/Bradley backcourt, especially if Marcus can improve his jumper.

The contract is a million a year too much but you have to overpay for a 23 year old who has consistently improved and is one of the better defenders in the league. I'm hoping it's 8m across the board or, even better, a higher payment this year and then declining amount as the years go on.

And, as others have said, I would assume Rondo is gone. Ditto Jeff Green.

At this point, I might take a flyer on Larry Sanders (if he won't be a big distraction to a young team) probably in a deal for Jeff Green, who seems like a good fit for Jabari and Kidd.

Rondo's trade value is low right now. Not sure we get an offer that Ainge likes. I could see us holding him for a mid-season trade/let Smart come along off the bench for the first half of the season.

Rob Hennigan's done a nice job clearing cap space and compiling assets but it might be time to bring in a different GM to take them to the next level. I have a feeling Hennigan's fallen in love with his young guys and I'm not seeing a real contender there.

On the bright side, the second year of the deal is a team option so Gordon could be a mid-season trade chip. (Granted, not as good as Afflalo could have been.

In response to Reply # 0
Wed Jul-02-14 01:45 PM by FILF

Guessing scoring 36 points in 40 minutes against Carolina in his last collegiate game in front of R.C. Buford helped Cotton's chances.

https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/statuses/484367985360924673

Basically the Spurs needed an insurance ball-handler going into next season as Manu has been diagnosed w/ a stress fracture in his right leg that will keep him out for 2 month & Patty has a torn rotators cuff will about until March.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

I mean, it's the most talent the Kings have a shot at getting but that is a team made for reality television.

Rondo and Sully for Isaiah Thomas (S&T), Ben McLemore, and eat one of Jason Thompson or Carl Landry's contracts?

Rondo, Stauskas, Rudy, Smoove, and Big Cuz!

the thing about Josh... it just seems like his decision making on the court sometimes just goes out into leftfield. If he could just focus on what he does well...which is actually a lot....stay within a team offensive concept in the half court...he'll be fine..

honestly I'd like to see stan make that threesome front line work....

Who that money specifically goes to is mostly irrelevant to the owner's position in the CBA disputes. Its always about size of the piece of pie.

Not sure why this myth continues to get parroted. Overpaying role players is BY DESIGN.

There are only so many A and B guys to pay, that money HAS to go somewhere. By law.

Revenue share was the main stumbling block but the caps (salary and luxury), contract length, and the cap exceptions were also issues. In fact, Silver has already mentioned the desire to get a hard cap.

what would that be...

the Miami Heat I just saw were smacked in the mouth in the finals because of their lack of half court defense......

also...Boozer would allow the heat to minimize the time when Bosh is guarding the 5 and Bron is guarding the 4.... that would allow them to have more favorable match ups on both ends of the court...

playing next to Bosh wouldn't require Boozer to guard all of the 5's...but he could easily guard most of them...there aren't that many dominate 5's.... hell Hibbard getting no points in the damn playoffs...lol..

and boozer got amnestied because he is grossly overpaid...he didn't have to be a great defender..and wouldn't on the Heat.... but he'd give them more of an inside presence than starting a front line of Bosh, Bron and damn Rashard Lewis...lol..

I'm seeing reports that the Heat are interested in Boozer so it ain't far fetched.

287. "whoa..indy interested in acquiring Dragic?"
In response to Reply # 0

what would phx want?

The Indiana Pacers have engaged the Phoenix Suns in trade talks for Goran Dragic.

This move could make some sense as the Pacers are looking for a more consistent option a point guard after an up-and-down season from George Hill. Dragic is coming off a career year, but the Suns won't likely be able to afford both he and restricted free agent Eric Bledsode if Dragic turns down his player option for the 2015-16 season. It's currently unclear what the Pacers are offering the Suns for Dragic, but they would presumably have to dip into the core of their roster to keep the Suns from hanging up the phone.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

291. "3 team deal for Rondo"
In response to Reply # 290

The Indiana Pacers are reportedly trying to engage the Celtics in a multi-team deal that would involve Rajon Rondo.

The Pacers have reportedly reached out to the Celtics in an effort to construct a multi-team trade that would presumably land Goran Dragic in Indiana. In the latest incarnation of this rumor, the Suns would land Rondo (who coincidentally drafted him), while the Celtics' proposed return is unclear at the moment. The one thing that is clear is that the Pacers are all-in on a point guard upgrade and George Hill may soon be left without a starting job.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Maybe he goes after Lance in a sign & trade but that doesn't sound like something you get pulled into. There are no reports of C's talking to Stephenson that I've heard.

Maybe it's Hibbert for Rondo with Rondo shipped to Phoenix but then Indiana has a hole in the middle. Also, not sure why Phoenix, if their concern is re-signing Dragic, would go after Rondo who is also a FA at the end of the season and has been said to want the max in his next deal.

Dragic for Born Ready sign-&-trade would be the most plausible scenario.

I could see Rondo ending up in Denver for Lawson & Faried since the Nuggets have a log-jam at the forward positions w/ Chandler/Gallo/Arthur/Hickson all on multi-year contracts. Lawson could end up in Houston in exchange for Parsons via a sign-&-trade assuming Lin can be shipped out to Philly for Thad Young or another SF.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

I think they are wise to sell high on Dragic but I can't blame them for not wanting to roll the dice on Lance.

Sacramento Kings sign G Darren Collison.
The terms of the deal are a full mid-level exception for 3 years and $16 million, according to Clippers beat writer Brad Turner. The 26-year-old averaged 11.4 points, 0.9 three-pointers, 2.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 steals in his only season with the Clippers and had a productive mid-season stretch when Chris Paul was injured during which he averaged over six assists per game. It will be interesting to see how this move affects restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas, but Collison reportedly signed with the impression that he'll be the starter and could prove to be an interesting mid-draft target if that comes to fruition.

Looking to add depth and experience at the lead guard position following the departure of Derek Fisher, the Thunder has agreed to terms with veteran point guard Sebastian Telfair.

Telfair, 29, was the 13th overall pick in 2004. Hes played for seven teams in nine seasons but spent last season in China. In 548 career NBA games, Telfair has averaged 7.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 21.6 minutes.

The deal is a one-year contract at the veterans minimum, about $1.3 million.

Chicago Tribune reports that Joakim Noah has told several people he believes Melo will re-sign with the #Knicks. Welp

http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-80717343/

8:05 pm, July 3, 2014
For a team whose most famous courtside fan is Jack Nicholson, going Hollywood comes easily and natural for the Lakers.

It's a more cumbersome role for the Bulls, and not just because the franchise is currently more associated with grit than glitz.

As the Lakers used a video by the producer of "The Matrix" in their Thursday free-agent pitch to Carmelo Anthony, Bulls management had to fly all the way to Tinseltown to woo Pau Gasol, a backup plan to Anthony that is looking like a more realistic option.

Two days removed from the high of their well-received pitch to Anthony in Chicago, the Bulls continued to grasp the long odds regarding acquiring Anthony, who also met with Knicks President Phil Jackson and coach Derek Fisher later Thursday in Los Angeles.

A Yahoo Sports report stated Anthony also planned to reach out to Gasol to discuss him joining the Knicks, another in a growing set of signs that Anthony may re-up in New York. Joakim Noah, intimately involved in the Bulls' pitch to Anthony, has told several people he believes Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks.

Multiple media outlets reported both the Knicks and Lakers offered Anthony a maximum contract that surpasses the Bulls' financial means unless the team is gutted. Such an approach is typically against Bulls management's philosophy.

And even moves like trying to engage Jackson in sign-and-trade talks to increase Anthony's salary or selling off pieces other than Taj Gibson for nothing would happen only with a verbal commitment from Anthony.

The Bulls also left the Gasol meeting without a verbal commitment. A source familiar with the meeting, which Noah attended, said Gasol gave the impression that his decision isn't imminent. Gasol, who turns 34 on Sunday, has drawn heavy interest from a number of teams, including the Heat and Thunder.

The Knicks, as a taxpaying team, could offer Gasol only an exception starting at $3.28 million. Both the Thunder and Bulls could top that offer.

The Bulls would have roughly $10 million of salary-cap space if they choose the amnesty route on Carlos Boozer, a decision that isn't needed until July 10. In the meantime, the Bulls are keeping Boozer in the hopes they can trade him. This would not only eliminate them from a financial commitment to Boozer but also keep them above the salary cap and allow them to use exceptions to sign other pieces.

All along, this has been the preferred route for the Bulls' free-agency plans.

Those plans have to remain fluid as teams wait for decisions from Anthony and Gasol. If the Bulls land neither, they could become more aggressive in their pursuit of Real Madrid forward Nikola Mirotic. And they'd seek veteran depth from a market that won't spring loose until big fish like Anthony and LeBron James make the decisions.

Gasol has averaged 18.3 points over 14 NBA seasons, the last two spent battling injuries that cost him a total of 55 games. That included a bout with vertigo last season.

The Bulls also have made clear they'd like to re-sign Kirk Hinrich. Like many complementary players, his market is yet to be fully realized. Ideally for the Bulls, they would bring him back at a salary far reduced from his $4 million of last season.

if Noah isn't confident that he's coming to Chicago...which obviously gives him the quickest route to competing for a title....then that means the Lakers have a chance...

although the Lakers can't pay him as much as the Knicks...they have cap space that the knicks do not have to build a team...
