and hitting a respectable .274...

told y'all last year that they needed to give Gordon a permanent shot....

the last two years he looked like a wiffle ball player with a bad eye...good for him though; he's fun to watch on the bases.

that catch ended the game in his first game back from injury last year..

and the people who at that time were acting like he was the worst center fielder in the history of baseball...all while dismissing plays like the one above..

Matt wasn't a perfect Center fielder..but he was a hell of a lot better than those who were exaggerating his shortcomings at the position..

he's a career .985 fielder in Center Field..... I mean...that fielding percentage never warranted the criticism he got ..

and I'm sure he'll be a solid Left Fielder if he stays at that position...he got of to a bad start this year for coming back from injury and questions about whether or not he was being shopped....and fortunately for the Dodgers...a guy like Etheir provides a solid defensive option in CF...

but 2 years ago when he was the Wilson Defensively player of the year...it was just not accurate to classify him as a bad centerfielder then...

the same type of data analysis that is saying he's been the worst this season..that same type of data analysis earned him the Wilson defensively player of the year 2 years ago....

Four relatively popular advanced metrics are all in agreement that in 2012 his defense in CF was bad:

UZR -9.0
Defensive WAR (Based on Total Zone) -1.1
Dewan +/- -32
Fielding Runs Above Average -7.0

I have no idea how Matt Kemp would have been given an award based on his defense based on objective methodology.

At his best around 2008-2009, he could battle the position to a draw. And until 2012 he probably hit well enough to keep himself out there. Now he's bordering on a really expensive platoon LF.

He's been tremendous.
