"RIP Ultimate Warrior"

I know we got a wrestling post...but I think we can afford The Warrior his own joint. I'm not sure what I'm more blown by...the fact that he passed OR THE FUCKING TIMING. From this weekend to Raw, dude was looking ok. My son kinda laughed like...man, the Warrior has grey hair. He was just using him on WWE game on 360....LAST NIGHT. Then I wake up to this. I'm about to head to the gym. Not even gonna tell him til I get home this evening. So...drop some of your favorite Warrior memories/moments. What made him one of my favorites was that he started out in bodybuilding...something that I always followed very closely. Dude just looked different when he came out. He was big as fuck. I read that when he and Sting first started out as The Blade Runners, they were crude and overpowering and used to hurt dudes a lot, lol. I'll never forget when he first came out as The Dingo Warrior...or the match when he and Sting fought together against Hulk and Brett when they were in the NWO. One of the best to do it.

"No WWE talent becomes a legend on their own. Every man's heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe a final breath. And if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others, and makes them bleed deeper and something larger than life, then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized. By the storytellers, by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him and make the running the man did live forever. You, you, you, you, you, you are the legend-makers of Ultimate Warrior. In the back, I see many potential legends. Some of them with warrior spirits. And you will do the same for them. You will decide if they lived with the passion and intensity. So much so that you will tell your stories and you will make them legends, as well. Ultimate. You are the Ultimate Warrior fans. And the spirit of Ultimate Warrior will run forever!"

I missed the whole wrestling weekend, heard it was awesome

But Ultimate Warrior was DAT DUDE! I remember the Honky Tonk Man issued an open challenge for the IC belt and the Warrior ran out, pressed him and won the title in 14 sec. Shit was hilarious

Yep, it worked out perfect story-wise too. Honky had held the title for over a year, cheating like hell at every opportunity to hold onto it. Ultimate Warrior was the first person to "figure out" how to beat him: just run down there and whoop his ass. Classic.

I think that was what it was called...with the Von Erichs and the Freebirds and them...

but he was in that before he made it to the WWF.... called himself the Dingo Warrior...

by the time he came to the WWF though he had put on even more muscle and had his warrior schtick down...

like I said in the GD post...didn't respect dude's social and political stances at all.... but I can't front on the fact that dude was a real G in the ring...no question.

Do you have any video or quotes of his politics and/or racism?

I saw you mentioned that. I have no idea what his political
stances were.

I can’t recall a specific statement off the top but over the years I’ve read a ton of outlandish quotes that were attributed to him. The youtube clips are pretty crazy too. At one point he threatened to reveal some big time, career ending secret about Hogan. I don’t think anything ever came of that.

Well, there's the semi-famous "Queering doesn't make the world work" rant he gave at U. Conn almost 10 years. That one's available on YouTube.

Then there's the article on his blog where he complained about MLK having a holiday, but not George Washington. It's an extremely obnoxious and condescending article.

And he's been a pretty out-spoken right-winger for much of his career. That in itself as not unusual, as post pro-wrestler tend to be pretty far right of center. But he was pretty insane about it.

his homophobic rants while running for congress ...

the one that always stood out to me were his comments during hurricane Katrina...where he talked about going fishing in the water..insinuating that he was going fishing for the people floating in the water... That to me just showed a level of contempt for human beings that I cannot respect...so even in death I have no problem saying fukk the Ultimate Warrior..

but I also do not have a problem giving him props as a pro wrestler..

for the most post...a lot of the Pro Wrestlers who were big when I was a big wrestling fan were disgusting individuals in real life... I mean Superfly Snuka is probably my favorite wrestler ever .... and obviously he has a substantial skeleton in his closet...

but as far as the Warrior goes....this deadspin article kind of breaks down what I was referring too...
