"Lakers 2013/14 Official Post *Kobe back at practice*"

Kobe Bryant returns to practice for first time since Achilles injury

By Mike Bresnahan
November 16, 2013, 6:26 p.m.

Kobe Bryant returned to the practice court Saturday for the first time since tearing his left Achilles' tendon in mid-April.

The practice consisted of some contact drills, shooting and strategy work.

Players were supposed to go at half speed in drills but it “turned into 100% real fast. And Kobe was part of it,” reserve guard Steve Blake said.

“He looks like Kobe to me, basically. He’s moving well, right back to his old self.”

Bryant did not talk to reporters but did an interview for NBA TV.

"The fade-away still works, the ball-handling and being able to post," he said. "Those are things that I can do right now. But it's not the playoffs."

Bryant began ramping up his off-the-court workouts in recent weeks, though the team declined to provide an updated timetable for his return.

“If it was a playoff game tonight, I could play,” Bryant told NBA TV. “I don’t know how effective I’d be, but I would play.”

Bryant said he remains motivated by the "low-hanging fruit" of continual skepticism about his return.

"That's right there," he said. "It's very easy to get me going, hearing what everybody says and the countless times they write me off. That's, like, really, really easy to hit that switch."

The Lakers play Detroit on Sunday and then don't play again until Friday against Golden State.

For now, the Lakers are monitoring Bryant’s availability one practice at a time.

“The next practice day will be Tuesday. We’ll look forward to see what he can do then,” Lakers spokesman John Black said.

That is the tell-tale sign of whether he can play or not. He has been increasing the intensity of his workouts and then pulling back in order to manage the pain/ramifications, this very well may just be the final part of that ramp up/ramp down process.

this ambitious attempted before so it's sort of unchartered territory.

As is, we expect him to be back gunning on a 32-win team by the time Santa comes down the chimney.

Not since their 1993 stint in Chino have so many low-life Lakers fans longed to see a rape face like this.

Pain shooting in his lumbar region and through to his leg...if you know anyone who has had sciatic issues, ask them how irritating and debilitating nerve issues are.

Ideally he decides to call it a career before playing his 10th game so we can utilize the injury exception on him, which would take us under the cap threshold to avoid the repeater tax.

By Ryan Ward| November 20, 2013

Fresh off the best game of his NBA career against the Detroit Pistons, Jordan Hill has established himself as one of the best players on the current Los Angeles Lakers roster.

With Hill quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with for the Lakers, the veteran power forward is hoping Kobe Bryant returns sooner rather than later. On Tuesday, Bryant participated fully during practice with the team and Hill claims that the five-time NBA champion is playing at 100 percent according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters via Twitter:

Jordan Hill says Kobe's playing at 100% at practice right now.

Over the past week or so, Bryant has been at the center of attention once again for the Lakers after finally returning to the practice floor. Although there’s still no timetable for Bryant’s return, the fact that he’s been on the practice floor has a lot of people excited about the prospect of him getting back in the starting lineup including Hill via Winters:

Serena Winters @SerenaWinters

Jordan Hill says it's great to have the "soul of the team" back out there.

While Bryant continues to try and get his body right in order to return, Hill has helped shoulder the load for this team in the first 12 games of the season.

In a little more than 20 minutes per game this season, Hill is averaging a career-high 10.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Hill has been arguably the team’s best player thus far and has earned a starting role as a result of his improved play. Adding Bryant in the mix will only help this team that may be starting to come around after a rocky start to the year.

I know it's popular to blame him for everything without giving any credit but fact is Pringles had this squad playing with rythym, effort, and chemistry. The injuries and Kobe returning have been serious issues of late.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
