"So, y'all know Anthony Bennett gonna be better than LJ ever was, right?"
Wed Oct-02-13 11:58 AM by Basaglia

Here's how this agenda gonna work...

dumb dudes who still nostalgic over the late 80s/early 90s Running Rebs gonna be mad and hate on AB

knicks fans...of course. they ALWAYS mad

dudes who mad just because it's me...we can always count on them.

anthony bennett is a better shooter right now than LJ ever was and he got better handles. i've seen enough. i'm riding with him. he gonna make tristan and dion obselete as kyrie's #2...mostly dion.

he'll be everything derrick williams was supposed to be and more.

y'all remember derrick williams, right?

seemed inconsistent as hell to me last year.

admittedly i didn't watch but a few UNLV games, though.

14-1 is decent though.

In response to Reply # 1

He'll probably be the second option in the offense right away, and with the Cavs likely fighting for the 8 seed, he'll be in the spotlight.

Not sure that he's a safer bet than Oladipo for ROY, but I don't know what the respective odds are.

I know this is the "sexy" sleeper pick for ROY, but I would imagine the odds on Olynyk winning would still be tempting to take.

I'm not completely sold on Bennett yet, particularly if Bron decides to go back to Cleveland because that means he'll have to take a backseat to not only Bron but Kyrie too.

I know dudes who laughed when they signed Beasley but I said I have a feeling he's going to be a good pickup for the Heat, just like Birdman turned into a great pickup and no one saw that happening.

Ain't no Knicks fans care about AB...if he pans out great

If he's better than LJ, so be it. I think it's a little unfair because LJ got hurt. But if you're saying he'd be better than LJ PRE-INJURY, that's a leap of faith because LJ was a MONSTER

And I thought you rode for Tristan Thompson...lol

And you got me on Derrick Williams...I thought he'd be better...I'll fess up and take an L on that right now

man, you still carrying an agenda from almost 25 years ago

is HAHA funny, definitely not me being mad...AT ALL

you've already moved the goalposts more than once

mentioning Derrick Williams?

and giving 15 and 7 as the mark of success for Bennett's rookie year

today, both having completed their collegiate careers

LJ>>>

"Here's how this agenda gonna work..."

20 and 10 his first 2 years, or this post is an L

and probably just a strawman argument if the Cavs don't make the playoffs

to deflect from 'Rie to Bennett

A whole 25% of Knicks fan even knew nor gave a fuck about

He hit one big shot for a Knick team that was among the most
lovable of all time

They were also perhaps the most outmatched team in NBA Finals
history

They were not very good, like, at all

Bums even

But rickety injured Larry hitting that shot was tons of fun

I'd back off if I was you, because you're descending from bad
agenda maker to outright weirdo

you ain't been right since PG crushed them buildings.

gotta take an L and keep on tickin, dogg. wait for your chance. don't keep chasing something that's passed. melo sold real bad in the 4th quarters of that series and people talked about it. it's over. stick with the crux of your argument: melo is better than PG. if you'd done that, you wouldn't have derailed.

Any nigga who says that Knicks fans love Larry Johnson
because we think he was a star is on drugs

He love him for almost the exact opposite reason

He was a bummy, hurt, gimpy guy who helped a shitty,
overmatched, overachieving team...the Van Gundy teams
were like that

This is basic shit. Like, all you had to do was think
about it for 12 seconds.

You coulda made this agenda without that tankery, but
you did so I'm just bringing the world's attention to it
and don't take this agenda seriously because of it

That's all

or do you just mean his career projects to be better than what LJ's evolved into post-back-injury?

Those first couple pre-backiotomy Grandmama seasons are not reachable for this kid right away, LJ averaged like 21/11/4 with 51% FG shooting & 80% FTs in his rookie & sophomore-year-with-Zo-as-a-rookie Hornet campaigns.

But he could have a better career, since LJ's sorta ends up falling into more of the 'what if?' category.

Dude missed the whole summer league due to injury, and while he'll be healthy going into Game 1, I fully expect it to take him a month or two to really hit his stride.

Yeah, I feel like this is more of the card being played here, that AB's best will be better than LJ's best, not a year-by-year comparison. I'm not sure enough to go either way on it, but it makes for one hell of a fun agenda post.

Honestly, when LJ came into the league, I was thinking about the Armon Gilliams and Gerald Paddios of UNLV lore that manhandled their competition and then became pedestrian (Gilliam) or wack (Paddio)...I thought he would be good, but not great. He was GREAT before he was injured. That is a lot to ask this kid to be.

Take the common comparison for AB and go all in on the ">>>."

On the surface the potential for an L is pretty high, but the risk is somewhat protected by LJ's lack of longevity at a peak level. If AB stays healthy this one is definitely in play.

Kajun Konsulting's Risk Analysis: Moderate

That being said AB is my favorite prospect out of this class simply because he's the most interesting.

Guys like him (size-athleticism-skill ratio) are so rare, regardless of how he pans out it will be fun to watch. There were times last year he looked absolutely unstoppable.

But everyone KNEW how much of a monster he was before the injury. We never called him any sort of GOAT...he's more of a fan favorite than anything else. You don't hear any Knick fan saying anything crazy about LJ

But continue...if you honestly think that AB will be better than pre-injury LJ, that's on you

Weird, as much as you shit on Carmelo for not improving,
LJ worked on his game and made himself relevant for quite
some time after that .

Because, that's really when LJ was a BEAST and doing 22 & 10 off sheer willpower and punishing any non-allstar 7 footer into being as helpless as a victim of Law & Order SVU.

He became more well rounded in NY but was a tradeoff from the explosive Barkley v2.0 abuser he was.

This is your worst agenda ever.

Nothing more.

Like, you're way off base

LJ's appeal is specifically tied to the fact that
he had zero left in the tank and gave his all

He was a completely incapacitated intangible guy
who could score from time to time

That's it.

You're really, really, weird right about now.

Ever was...

Because Larry Johnson > Luol Deng

http://bkref.com/tiny/haOvW

Interesting agenda.

So Kyrie has his Luol Deng...but better
Has his Joakim Noah...in Sideshow
Has his Carlos Boozer...double double machine in Tristan

Add Earl Clark, Bynum, Dion...

They should be better than the Bulls considering its 2013-2014 and according to you Kyrie > Derrick Rose

Interesting agenda.

dude wasn't worth a pick that high... Particularly if you got other guys who play the same position on your team and have proven they can contribute...

LJ came in the league starting from jump...and putting up solid numbers in a leadership role on his team...

don't think Bennett will be the scorer LJ was and not sure he's going to shoot for a high percentage...

just wasn't a good #1 overall pick really....particularly it may be the last time they have the #1 pick in a while...

The only thing I'd be weary of are his injuries.

Other than that, he can be phenomenal. His hands, wingspan, his quick feet, his shooting touch and range. He can definitely be better than LJ.

So AB gonna have a year better than 22.1/10.5/4.3/.526 while leading the league in minutes?

at least we can agree that ab will always trail lj as a fashion icon.

yanno, there's a whole draft post i created for siutations like these so pressed bammas like you and SPM can't say what i said so and so was gonna be in the L. so, don't try to flip this to help your cooked up melo agenda or anything else. i didn't say STAR...EVER. i always said he was solid and can't miss. he will help ANY team. stick with what i actually said...

http://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=8&topic_id=2199333&mesg_id=2199333&listing_type=search

"guy who can defend three positions, nail 3s and score at a high percentage, strong ballhandler for his size? Sheeeeit. In the right position (Cleveland, Washington), we're talking instant 12-14 ppg, 6 rpg. Perennial starter. Hard to say where he ranks among SFs with so many current studs and young skilled guys coming up, but with the right team around him, he should be pushing entering the top 10 SF by year 3 at latest (that sounds less impressive, but right today that's like Parsons/Leonard/Batum range, aka pretty goddamn good)."

otto was safe pick for the cavs, given they needed a 3. they went for the homer with AB tho and shored up the 3 with carrick and dat russion sniper.

Anthony Bennett has medical issues
Associated Press

CLEVELAND -- Cavaliers rookie forward Anthony Bennett, the top pick in this year's NBA draft, has asthma and sleep apnea.

Cleveland coach Mike Brown revealed Bennett's conditions Thursday night before the Cavs hosted the Detroit Pistons in an exhibition game. Bennett's asthma was not widely known and obviously did not prevent the Cavs from taking the former UNLV star in June's draft.

Bennett has had some breathing issues during workouts and in preseason games, and him being sometimes winded had been attributed to him not being able to work out as much this summer after undergoing shoulder surgery in May. But Brown said Bennett also deals with asthma and wears a mask at night for his sleep apnea.

"It's a culmination of a lot of things," Brown said. "The shoulder, he's been out for a while, he's got asthma. We're throwing a lot at him. He's probably never played this hard against this competition in his life. He's got sleep apnea and some other things. He likes to stay up late."

The 6-foot-8, 259-pound Bennett averaged 10 points and 6.3 rebounds in his first three NBA preseason games. He's coming off the bench for Brown, and made his first shot -- a 3-pointer -- against the Pistons and followed that up with a breakaway dunk.

Brown said Bennett's breathing issues are noticeable.

"It's been tiring to watch him because every time I watch him he's (gasping)," Brown said. "It makes me tired, so I try not to look at him. I tell him, `If you need a sub, just tell me. Otherwise I'm not going to look at you."

Bennett was not in Cleveland's locker room during the period it was open for media members.

Knicks fans saw a creaky old nigga throwing up shots. He was a
cult favorite, nothing more. Saying a young player has a higher
peak than LJ on the Knicks is a disrespect to any lottery pick.

ANY and EVERY lottery pick...hell...any first round pick should be
better than Larry Johnson on the Knicks. He literally couldn't
jump, was all old man skills. That he kept himself relevant is a
testament to his work ethic and general good skill set (and good
for him)

The only reason Knicks fans are even bothering in this post is because
you're outright lying. Had you just made this post and not mentioned Knicks
fans, nobody woulda said shit.

The agenda has enough problems (as in, Larry Johnson was actually
a dynamo pre-back injury) for you to be piling up more doo doo via
lying about Knicks fans.

Its a way to make people care about Anthony Bennett,
who nobody gives two fucks about.

Problem is, you got caught making shit up out of thin air,

You could have just said Bennett vs. Oladipo, or even better,
said he'd be better than one of the "franchise" guys next year.

anthony bennett will be better at basketball than LJ EVER was. pre-back, post-back, no-back.

i'm sorry you're a knicks fans and i'm sorry PG at 23 better than Melo ever was.

We're gonna keep going until you back down and admit
you were misguided on this one.

You cannot say that the Knicks fans would be upset
at a claim that Bennett will be better than LJ at
his best, when the Knicks have no idea what LJ looked
like at his best. He was wearing a different uniform,
and the Knicks were actually a good team during the
time LJ was good, so they were busy trying to beat
Michael Jordan and Hakeem, failing admirably (no shame
in losing to either).

>i'm sorry you're a knicks fans and i'm sorry PG at 23 better
>than Melo ever was.

Not me. If PG is better than Carmelo, good for him. And unlike
Carmelo, PG is the highest paid player on his team, gets treated
like a leader should.

Carmelo's had a first ballot Hall of Fame career, though.

See how easy that was?

I get it -- you didn't directly compare him to anyone
from his own class, since you cysed a lot of those
other niggas ahead of Bennett and its a bad look

she can cook and clean and do all the regular stuff wives do, but she just chooses not to and blames it on sleep lolz.

so as long as AB don't make excuses he'll be fine.

like there are plenty of threads with me cysing MC Rhymin and saying exactly what he would be in the L (said he and bmac were best in draft...until i watched bennett leading up to draft...wrote it here, said it on podcast several times). now, everybody falling over themselves to be friends with the kid, tryna re-up on that Shaun Livingston debacle a years ago. i don't need to do all that.

i was asked several times on the podcast who i think are the best PLAYERS and who i think are the best FITS for the cavs.

BMac fit both. And I said several times since October 2012 MC Rhymin and Bmac were the best prospects in the draft.

for the CAVS, i never mentioned MC because, oh, they have a PG. i said OTTO, NERLENS or BMAC and trade Dion.

so, to repeat, best PLAYERS...MC and BMAC...and then I came around to bennett before the cavs even got the #1 pick. i simply hadn't seen much of the dude and was scared 'cause he black and greasy.

there's AUDIO EVIDENCE of what i said...and i suspect pressed ass thread-uppers have found me cysing MC in several threads during their pressed research today.

but, i don't NEED to cyse anyone. i gave y'all my agendas. cavs won. i was happy. period.

It's obvious to anyone who watched Bennett last year that he wouldn't pay major dividends as a pro Year 1 or even Year 2, because he's still pretty raw talent, especially compared to LJ, who was NBA-ready when he stepped onto the scene.

It's also obvious that Bennett has some major major talent and could potentially put up some hearty numbers in a few years. I'm not going to go as far as Ba with this LJ thing, mostly because I'm not the biggest Bennett fan (ask ConcreteCharlie and MothershipConnection), but I wonder if those who are posting his box scores saw him play before the NBA at all and are aware of just how high his ceiling could be.

I feel like everyone on OKS who wants to engage in agendas and dispense Ws or Ls needs like a "keeper roster" page where folks can just check in now and then.

Cuz if people wanna up this post every time Bennett has a bad game this year... it'll probably be on the front page a lot. He'll have his good games, because he'll have plenty of opportunities on this roster, but especially these first 2-3 months, I wouldn't be surprised to see his consistency struggle, to put it nicely.

Same for OE's Giannis post: major talent, majorly raw, cysed by someone who riles folks up here, Giannis will have plenty of bad games this year, but could be special in a few years.

I've been saying for years now that there's no real point in judging a rookie's hit-or-bust status til year 3. What's the point in uppages after big or bad regular season games? Even brief playoff spurts/slumps can often be anomalies with young players.

You wanna throw that back onto the people making the posts, cool. I have no problem with that. I just think there's no real point to the back-and-forth uppages and I'm gonna be tired seeing this post page 1 every time he has a good or a bad game.

I'm not even a big Bennett fan. But anyone who watched UNLV even in passing last year saw that this transition for him wouldn't be smooth out the gate.

You KNOW if a Dukie was LIGHTING SHIT UP in YEAR ONE (like Kyrie) and someone that was projected to be better than said Dukie year 1, you and Bags would be ROASTING cats with well deserved told'ya's

That's the way it works...you make a really big reach and that player better perform. Especially if that player is the #1 OVERALL PICK.

He's got plenty of time, his career is just starting. But let's not act like if a cat from Duke wasn't balling out of his mind out the gate that 1st page wouldn't have been littered with uppage of cats that were wrong about him.

... I put the exact same reply in OE's Giannis post, and no one cares. I put it here, and it's some sort of defense, even though I note that I disagree with Ba's initial post in my reply that no one read.

Just odd, really.

But duly noted: my logical comments don't belong in Basa posts, as folks won't read them. Not bad advice, in all seriousness.

The "better shooter right now than LJ ever was" is 0-12 (at this same time, LJ was 14-28). Will Game 4 be the time he finally gets a FG to go?

Three games, two points for No. 1 pick

The Cavaliers' Anthony Bennett was scoreless Saturday in 11 minutes of action against the Pacers. Bennett has scored only two points (both coming on free throws) in the first three games of his NBA career. That's the lowest point total after three games for any player selected first overall in the NBA draft. Every other top pick scored at least 10 points in his first three career games.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!
