I'm sure guys like Expertise are too busy checking quarterly Neilson numbers and PPV buy rates when evaluating how good a program is to actually watch the show and evaluate its quality based on what actually happens, but these shows have ranged from very good to stellar since SS.

With Cena out, they've done a lot of incorporate the youth of the roster into the story line and HHH and Steph are the perfect villains to do that with. D Bry is on that Lex Luger vs NWO/Kurt Angle vs The Invasion steeze right now, where he's killing everything in sight. Yeah, he's getting beat down on a regular basis but has been made to look incredibly strong while doing so. The youngsters are getting quality shine and those few weeks of punking out the entire roster while torturing Bryan are paying off nicely as we speak. We've had two straight Raw shows ending with The Shield getting their ass handed to them.

Plenty of dunamics are forming right now that are tremendous bright spots.

-Bryan is getting immaculate shine and proving himself as a foundation-level player. If the HBK rumblings are true and they play the angle of HHH bullying HBK's student the right way, ideally playing up some jealousy angle, where Hunter has the titles and the corporate position but still can't measure up to HBK's immense legacy of being on the short list of true GOAT level performers, his stock will go even higher. As it is, the Yes! chants are as over as anything since Austin.

-Cody getting a push in the midst of it, with a Rhodes Family match vs The Shield as the obvious payoff. The Rhodes boys jumping The Shield tonight was a fresh and exciting appetizer to a superb main course.

-Dolph/Ambrose being built quietly but smoothly in the process, with both looking great. Add to that, Seth Rollins continuing to gub for that HBK/Hennig/Dolph level of spectacular selling.

There's plenty to love about everything going on right now, and despite his overwhelming presence, HHH has done an excellent job of ensuring Bryan not only comes out on top, but remains a sympathetic figure for the fans to rally behind by also teasing The Viper. Remember, Steph told him that unless they see the true-blue sadist in him again, he won't be champ again. A violent, evil Orton is a fantastic heel and the perfect foil for Bryan's decidedly traditional babyface.

There's literally been no downside to the presence of Hunter and Steph since SS because they continue to provide an ebb and flow to the dynamics of Bryan and Orton, giving each man strong moments and allowing them both to retain momentum of going into Battleground.

The Usos are getting burn that I fully expect to continue and R Truth and Kofi are getting some opportunities as well. Not all of these guys will retain their current status three-four months from now, but an awful lot of ground work is being laid going forward for these guys.

It's showing that there's a much more personal issue at play with D Bry, and I think that implication bodes better for D Bry in the long run, which is ultimately better for WWE in the long run.

The idea seems to be more, "we're throwing our weight around" rather than "let's stack the deck against Daniel Bryan because we don't like him"

It's either one, or the other, they can't have both. Either they have a personal vendetta against Daniel Bryan that doesn't involve the rest of the roster, or they're on a power trip that happens to include suppressing the Daniel Bryan movement. They can't prattle on about how Daniel Bryan's not the face of the company and subsequently lay him out over 7 shows while firing others on a whim, then open a pay per view by making babyface decisions against a heel manager. They're trying to have it both ways: they want to be lying heels who say they're trying to be fair while actually trying to be fair in spots. Shit doesn't work like that. The subtle train left the station a while ago.

And I'm sure they'd argue that they're somehow showing "depth," and probably believe they're giving themselves shades like the characters on Breaking Bad, because those are the kinds of pleas they'd cop...

Nah... it's VERY much both of these. It makes no sense to say they can't have a different relationship with different people.

>It's either one, or the other, they can't have both.

They can and they are.

>they have a personal vendetta against Daniel Bryan that
>doesn't involve the rest of the roster, or they're on a power

Why can't they? Because it doesn't hold to the usual status quo?

Nah

I'm not with this Mark Madden perspective on things. They can absolutely hold a personal issue against Bryan, throw their weight around punishing the roster.... and still dislike Paul Heyman while he's a heel. It's not that complicated, and it's a minor nitpick at worst.

What it is is good wrestling storytelling 101. You know, the stuff that draws money and more eyeballs to the product.

If you're a heel, be a heel to the people who oppose your basic worldview. I like how that's called "the usual status quo" instead of what it actually is, which is good, consistent storytelling.

This "grey area" shit that they're trying to attempt is straight out of the Vince Russo playbook of conveniently-heel-for-this-segment character writing, and while that shit was cool back in '98 (like when Kane chokeslammed Pete Rose for shitting on the city of Boston just before he wrestled the babyface Undertaker), that shit doesn't quite work in 2013, especially for an alleged long-term storyline that theoretically is supposed to help get a guy over who was already pretty over-- oh wait.

If they're really trying to do the not-the-status-quo!, "complicated heel" thing, then the first thing Hunter should have said after he did what he did at Summerslam was that he didn't want to do that to Daniel Bryan, and hint that he was strong-armed into doing it by Vince, and by proxy, Steffy, and run with that. He could have even started a more subtle heel turn by still taking the "B+ wrestler" and "not the face of the company" digs that he actually took. That works FAR better from a (wrestling) storytelling standpoint than having him heel completely the fuck out on Raw for the 7 shows leading up to Night of Champions, only to have him open that show by cutting A COMPLETE BABYFACE promo (where he announced that the title match later that night would be no-D.Q, which is a total babyface call) and led to him punking out fellow heel Paul Heyman.

And by the way, remember when Hunter was in D.X. and as a babyface he would ask the crowd if they were ready? He did the same thing to open the Night of Champions show. Makes no sense to point this out!

And as far as the idea that "but they're putting heat on Daniel Bryan to make him even more over than he was before," the thing is, Daniel Bryan doesn't or didn't need this "oppression by the complicated and not-status-quo heels who are out to get him and only him" story to get over. He was WAY over before it happened. Or was that thunderous response that I saw and heard when I went to Summerslam and he pinned John Cena clean just an aberration, and happened mainly because all of America hates John Cena? Was all that "Yes!" shit I saw and heard before and during the show just the result of WWE paying people to cheer for Daniel Bryan and/or pumping in artificial crowd cheers to help jumpstart the effort to get him over?

Oh, and did you also notice those dead-silent reactions when heel Steffy checked heel A.J. by threatening to strip her of the Divas title and fire her... twice? Who exactly is this catty heel vs. catty heel shit supposed to be aimed at? What purpose does it serve? How exactly does this further the "personal corporate hatred for Daniel Bryan and Daniel Bryan only" storyline along? How does Stephanie McMahon bullying A.J. (yet again) make Stephanie McMahon a more effective heel? Why does it "make no sense" to ask these basic storytelling questions? Status quo!

And back to that opening segment at Night of Champions, when Ultra Megaheel Company COO Triple H cut a babyface match stipulation promo then bullied Paul Heyman. Who exactly was that "hey you guys the Daniel Bryan-Randy Orton match is gonna be no D.Q. you guys!!! Are.. you... ready?!!!!"/"hey, Paul Heyman, you're a Peasel who's gonna get his ass beat, ha ha ha sorry bro" shit aimed at? What purpose did it serve? How exactly did that further the "personal corporate hatred for Daniel Bryan and Daniel Bryan only" storyline along (there actually is an admittedly-clever-and-very-status-quo answer to this question)? Why is it considered "nitpicking" if one points out the character inconsistencies that are coming across on mine and other non-"insider"s TVs, inconsistencies that consistently undermine whatever it is that Ultra Megaheel Company COO Triple H is ultimately supposed to accomplish? Are they supposed to establish that he's not such a bad guy after all? If that's the case, then why go full 100% heel the 8 shows BEFORE Night of Champions, as opposed to starting more subtly the night after Summerslam then BUILDING to a more heelish role as the story goes on? I know, I know, "nitpicking!"

This isn't a "Mark Madden issue." It's an issue that comes from watching almost 30 years of wrestling on TV, and understanding what good "good guys vs. bad guys" storytelling is. The "status quo" shit, I suppose. And what all this "cute and selective heeling" actually does is cause unnecessary confusion with the audience. They don't know/care if they're supposed to cheer or boo Hunter and Steffy from segment to segment, and it's ultimately very sloppy and terribly inconsistent. And all of it's not that nuanced, or subtle, or even groundbreaking.

Again, when Hunter and Stephanie are heels to the babyfaces on the roster, they're fun to watch. When they're being heels to other heels, it's not fun to watch. Especially during segments that have ZERO or very little to do directly with how they treat Daniel Bryan, who really doesn't/didn't need any of this to get any further over.

LOL@this absurd notion that this is somehow a reason for the overall decline in the popularity of the product (you know, the stuff that puts butts in seats and eyes on TV, right?).

It couldn't possibly be partially due to piracy- you know, the fact that people can just download an episode an hour after it airs or the vast array of entertainment options at everyone's finger tips. It couldn't be partially due to the fact that the massive growth in the mid 90's through the early 2000's were due to a huge wave of casual fans reeled in by an unprecedentedly deep pool of talent spanning two massive promotions and elevated by the competition between those two promotions.

Yeah, that was an aberration that we'll probably never see again. Ratings will NEVER, EVER return to that level, and it's NOT because HHH put three heels against 11 faces.

You ignore the fact that The Shield was made to look incredibly strong, because 11>3, GOSH DARN IT!!! ELEVEN IS MORE THAN THREE.

You're a plagiarizer who doesn't think for himself, so you're too blinded by whatever dirt sheet insider you're parroting to view anything in context. Daniel has looked incredibly strong even when getting beat down (I guess Lex Luger was getting buried by the NWO while fighting them off in a losing battle every week too, huh?). Dolph was made to look strong against them as well, and The Shield, despite losing the battle were played up as the monster heels they are.

But hey, 11-3 no good for bad guy!

Here's where fantasy booking gets you into trouble. If you honestly think HHH is going to allow himself to be portrayed as second-tier or anything less than KING OF KINGS CEREBRAL COO, you are gravely mistaken.

I've enjoyed the storyline a lot so far but I think it is far from airtight.

In response to Reply # 21

>Here's where fantasy booking gets you into trouble.

Gets me into trouble? LOL. Fantasy booking is nothing more than presenting ideas you think would make for compelling TV. My idea makes for compelling TV. That's all fantasy booking is. Further, I based my idea on preexisting rumblings of HBK's potential involvement in the near future, with HBK himself alluding to said involvement, and looking at the most logical way of using him in that program.

So, sorry to burst your bubble, but my idea is far from "getting into trouble" because it's an entirely reasonable premise. But then, your next line reveals more about why you would say such a thing.

>If you
>honestly think HHH is going to allow himself to be portrayed
>as second-tier or anything less than KING OF KINGS CEREBRAL
>COO, you are gravely mistaken.

You mean like when he let Punk call him a dufus, Edge implying that he had to marry the bosses daughter to get ahead, and countless other references to him not exactly earning his status, etc? So, the same guy that allows his wife to get trampled in promos left and right and allows people to basically say he married into his career is going to be SO over the top protective of his image that his best friend won't be allowed to say he can't lace his boots? Based on.... what, exactly?

This idea people have that HHH isn't willing to allow himself to get shit on in the name of a good storyline is preposterous. Further, if you don't think Shawn Michaels, Pauls real life closest friend, the man whose coattails and stable he road into greatness, and arguably the GOAT performer in WWE history would be allowed slightly greater leeway than guys like Edge or Punk in throwing darts at his career, you're too stuck on this IWC perception of Hunters ego to look at the actual track record.

Whether or not *my* *personal* ideal scenario plays out is immaterial. You're so stuck on some IWC perception of HHH that you're going to pretend a perfectly plausible, reasonable premise that is actually less a personal attack than the shit lesser talents with lesser status without a close relationship to him have gotten away with.

>I've enjoyed the storyline a lot so far but I think it is far
>from airtight.

Far from airtight? It's not airtight, but far from? Nah, this shit has been played out exceptionally well thus far. Saying it's "far" from airtight is pretty much saying it's mediocre.

It's a general statement. Because sometimes they get attached to an (admittedly) reasonable idea for where the story could go. When that doesn't happen as you believe it should, that's when you start to think you could write the show better than they could.

Triple H has shrugged a lot of things off in promos. He has rarely in recent years "shown ass" as they say. Brock Lesnar threatened his staff and destroyed his office and HHH acted like it was a mild inconvenience.

Sure, Edge said a bunch of stuff about him marrying into power and every time that gets trotted out he's basically "you mad?"

Yeah, I said it was far from airtight. It could get worse. Booking an 11-on-3 elimination match where the faces are the eleven and only four are left at the end seems pretty stupid.

I know I could do that, but my own pet concepts aren't going anywhere because there's no shot of them hiring a fan off the street, so I personally don't care either way. Right now their playing things at an excellent level and while there are still things I'd do differently, all I care about is a quality product, and the only time I get the self righteous "I could do better than these fucks" is when they get on some bullshit for a long while.

>Yeah, I said it was far from airtight. It could get worse.

Meh, more Mark Madden. I hate most of his ideas personally, but that's just me. A few things he's not paying attention to, because he's too busy ranting about shit that doesn't hold to form:

1. It made The Shield look unbelievably strong, continuing to solidify their prowess as HHH's personal enforcers.

2. Daniel and Dolph were was the main players that turned the tide, keeping them looking strong.

3. The rest are guys who are mostly also-rans. It's not like it was The Shield vs Cena, Punk, Bryan, Kane, Dolph, Ryback, Taker, etc. Kofi just came back from an injury, RVD just came back after along WWE hiatus, Usos are barely on Raw, and Truth and ZACH have both been MIA for awhile.

4. The look on The Shields faces when HHH made the match. Sorry, but they clearly looked bothered by that. Whose to say there isn't something planned for that?

Now, I'm not saying it was a great idea. I'm just saying it turned out to be an excellent match that made key players look strong, showed a solidified locker room, and gave some guys that have been sidelined some main event burn, which could turn out well for a few of them in the long run. So what's the problem?

He got his ass whupped on every show after SummerSlam and they've emasculated every face on the show.

If that's a push, it's sure a strange way of getting pushed.

Doesn't help things that SummerSlam was the least watched in 16 years, neither.

Heyman vs Punk has been going on all summer, Ryback came in and cost Punk the match at NoC...did you not hear Punks speech to the Chicago crowd?....Really the only fault with the Punk vs Heyman feud is that maybe Ryback should of been "Heyman's new guy" instead of Curtis Axel...

They've switched sides and Heyman is now aligned with Ryback.

Even if I took issue with the quick booking (which is the usual these days), the fact that they have a history together automatically removes any of those qualms because there's bad blood going back about a year.

axel punk? ehhhh. it's curtis axel
ryback is a bigger star then axel, that match was "announced" the second cm punk stepped in the chicago arena is my point.

woulda made sense if they "announced" it after ryback put him through he table.

i've made some pretty valid points. you're talking to a REAL fan , bruh. i go back to chris adams, kruscher kruchev, david sammartino lol

sorry that since i voiced the lil bit dissatisfaction that u feel i ain't a real fan. and if you were familiar with how they did booker during that HHH and feud, you'd probably see my point.

Well at least not in the post you responded to

I don't see where you going back to Bruno makes you any more a real fan than myself, who goes back to The Mega Powers days and was a WCW junkie from it's NWA roots. I didn't get to see AWA cats back then, but got ahold of plenty of material later on.

As a "real fan" myself, I don't need a "long build up" in an era where "long build ups" don't really happen. It's a monthly PPV cycle which means that, at most, you have 4 weeks to go from the initial seeds being planted into a full blown fued with a PPV match.

This means that you have a few options:

-use those four weeks to build the fued, culminating in the 4th week being the week the PPV match is announced, which you don't really want to do too often with with your big names because you do't have enough time to build excitement and awareness for the match, but can- and is- often done with lower names on the card.

-Set the PPV match right away and build the feud in a way that can lead to stipulations such as manager not being allowed at ringside, extreme rules, etc.

Feuds tend to last through several PPV's, however the time from that initial interaction and the initial PPV match itself is typically done within that 4 month cycle. You being a "real fan" doesn't change that, and your insistence that you're "old school" and a "real fan" and "like long build ups" only implies a lack of understanding of how things are actually being done now, which, sorry to say, simply isn't being done the way you like them to be done for the most part. That's not an opinion, it's not a point of debate, it's an unarguable fact.

Whatever floats your boat man. If you would rather discuss all the shit you hate because you're a REAL FAN and it ain't like the good old days when pro wrestling was pure, chock full of hairy, chubby white men wrestling bears in circus tents, a body slam was a whammy of a finisher, and announcers all sounded like b-grade noir actors reading c-grade scripts, then knock yourself out.

#1 WWF Winged Eagle http://tinyurl.com/wwfwingedeagle (loved the white and light blue straps used for Ultimate Warrior)
#2 WWF European http://tinyurl.com/wwfeuro
#3 WCW United States http://tinyurl.com/wcwustitle
#4 WWE Undisputed http://tinyurl.com/wweundisputed
#5 WWF Intercontinental Title http://tinyurl.com/wwfictitle

I thought the ECW Title belts were cool since their designed screamed "hardcore" and accurately represented the product, although the tag belts were kind of gross. Also always had a soft spot for the WWF Tag Titles (http://tinyurl.com/wwftagtitles), even the blue version they used for the (originally) SmackDown Tag belts, and the WCW Television (http://tinyurl.com/wcwtvtitle) and Tag Team Titles (http://tinyurl.com/wcwtagteam). What I really miss is the concept of the TV title.

I know I don't have the "big gold belt" up there, but I think I'm just sick of it after seeing it consistently for my entire career as a wrestling fan.

http://www.wwe.com/inside/wwe-divas/brie-bella-daniel-bryan-engaged

She said “YES!”

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella are officially engaged. The two-time WWE Champion bent his knee and proposed while the couple went hiking around Big Sur, Calif. The ring Bryan presented his fianceé with was a vintage, 1.5 carat European diamond (eco-friendly and conflict-free) that the two had designed themselves.

"I've had the ring for a long time,” Bryan told Eonline.com. "Just trying to find the moment that fits, a moment that's worthy of Brie."

The cameras were rolling on E!’s “Total Divas” when Bryan popped the question. The WWE Superstar followed up his proposal by flying Brie’s entire family out for an engagement dinner. By all accounts, it was a perfect proposal.

“He said he'll love me forever like the ocean goes on," said Brie. “That was probably the most special thing anyone has ever done for me."

For full details on the engagement, visit Eonline.com, and be sure to tune into season 1.5 of “Total Divas” and see Bryan’s proposal. "Total Divas" returns Sunday, Nov. 17 on E!

Ryback will be OK as long as he is around Heyman...This is old school "WWF" wrestling...The muscle being led by the evil genius manager...That whole "will you be a Paul Heyman guy" line was GREAT and hilariously shocking...I think sometimes as wrestling fans we get too jaded and just forget about the power of a strong personality like a Bobby The Brain...

That's essentially Paul Heyman....And Ryback will more than benefit...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

A story about the "end" of Pennsylvania-based Chikara Pro Wrestling and what has happened in the wake of its' demise.

http://www.housetoastonish.com/?p=2056

Chikara structures its shows in seasons, and things started getting a bit darker in season 9 (2010) with the invasion of Die Bruderschaft des Kreuzes... That period ends with Chikara being bought by the mysterious Worldwide Media Development Corporation, a subsidiary of the Titor Conglomerate, who sent in auditor Wink Vavasseur to be the company’s new Director of Fun (its commissioner figure) and restore some order to proceedings.

Over time, Wink’s decisions become increasingly erratic - swapping wrestlers into blatantly ridiculous teams because his “Chikarabermetrics” system assures him they’re the best combinations – and ultimately downright malicious. Meanwhile, off to the side, ousted referee Derek Sabato is making noises about how Titor has something to hide. Guards from Titor subsidiary Condor Security have been lurking around Chikara shows looking ominous. A blog called No Private Army sprung up spouting rambling regurgitated conspiracy theories and making further insinuations about Titor and Condor.

So a lot of rumours were going round in advance of the June show Aniversario 2: Never Compromise. Especially since that’s a reference to Rorschach’s line “No. Not even in the face of armageddon. Never compromise.”

So what actually happens at this show? Most of it proceeds as scheduled. Midway through, Sabato jumps into the ring and announces that he’s posting an incriminating photo on Twitter. (He claims that the photo depicts the Titor board of directors – even though it’s manifestly photoshopped and “Martin” seems to be a woman. The oddness of this photo appears to be a plot point rather than a wonky prop.) This appears to drive Wink over the edge, and so just as the main event is about to end with Icarus winning the Chikara Grand Championship, a bunch of Condor Security guys march out and shut down the show. Literally. They eject the wrestlers, they dismantle the set, they throw out the audience. And that’s how the show ends.

And they followed up in a way no larger company could. The next day they announced the cancellation of all future shows, and then went radio silent – save for posting the occasional message on their message board to the effect that they were having a liquidation sale on merchandise (which they did), and inviting bids for equipment and for the tag belts. (The tag belts were supposedly sold for $4,800. The Grant Championship belt, we were told, couldn’t be found.)

And in a sense, that’s where matters lie. The company hasn’t properly updated its website since 3 June. It has cancelled all future shows and claims to have ceased trading. The end. We’re finished. Go home.

Obviously the end of Aniversario was a storyline – but the delay in any sort of follow-up (combined with some other factors that I’ll come to) had everyone wondering whether there might be more to this. In a sense, after all, Chikara has closed. It isn’t doing anything.

However…

Exactly. That one had 14 dudes to start, which seems a bit high.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivor_Series_1998

I don't know if it's really possible. Asking guys to wrestle multiple matches in one night and then cap off a PPV in a hell in a cell match seems like a terrible idea. And I certainly don't want another full month of no champ, or another PPV with a non-finish. But it's fun to think about a tournament with Bryan, Orton, Show, Cody, the Shield guys and others.

it's really sad. the thing that i think they're building to (bryan winning the rumble, then the title at mania) will be great, but they just tanked two ppvs in a row to stall this storyline.

i enjoyed the rest of the show (especially the rhodes match*) but it could have used a title change. perfect opportunity for sandow to cash in too.

*i was watching with a crowd and the room was going nuts for this one. it was great.

... should have had RVD with the almost win, Ricardo coming in to help. Accidently hitting RVD costing him the match, ADR with the pin and Ricardo knocking him out with a foreign object to try and redeem himself. While ADR is knocked out Damien Sandow coming in to cash in, revealing Ricardo was working for him the whole time (since he use to come out all classy in Tuxs and whatnot). Atleast that's what I was hoping to see.

They're deliberately trying to drag this out which at the surface is great.

BUT they don't seem to have the ideas or the talent to drag this out.

Someone above mentioned the Rock heel turn at Survivor Series. That was the start of what I consider the most inspired stretch of the "Attitude Era." From Rock's heel turn and Austin's rift with Vince, they were successfully able to execute two great programs and elevate almost all of the involved players as well.

Rock dealt with Foley. Foley won the title once and got a dose of credibility that enhanced his clout against the Rock. Conversely, Rock earned some "tough guy" capital from Foley - looking very strong in their classic I Quit match at Rock Bottom and beating Foley "clean" in the empty arena hardcore match during the Super Bowl halftime show. Rock came out of that a made guy, primed as the PERFECT heel for the white hot Austin who mind you had been working towards his climax against Vince at St.Valentine's Day Massacre (where they introduced the Big Show and STILL got Austin over with one of the most clever finishes of all time!!!)

All this is to say that WWE doesn't have the horses available to do a similar program right now. I think Orton needs a believable foil that ISN'T Bryan, and I don't know who that guy is- Punk is tied up in a program that's exhausted and then else is there? Big Show?

Get Orton someone he can work with through the Rumble while Bryan goes through Hunter THEN weave them back into each other.

The last time they did it was when I think he tore a pec or some shit, and he was announced to be "out until WrestleMania" of that year

Only to show up as the surprise #30 entrant in the Royal Rumble, which was a pretty damn big markout moment if there ever was one

ADR vs. Cena won't happen because they'll say Cena isn't medically cleared yet. Also, they'll say that Cena fighting for the WHC isn't best for business. Also, they let ADR get pinned in 30 seconds by Ricardo to a rollup.

... seen him of his indie wrestling and it made perfect sense why they paired him with RVD. They both have a similar style. Also an unannounced challenger would have been a big pop for Cena had they done it that way and he shows up.

...then the show is in bad shape.

WWE edits this down to 90 minutes for Hulu Plus. I don't think they have it this week. The opening, the main event, Sandow-Ziggler, and Kofi-Orton. Maybe they'll add in 30 minutes of Susan G. Komen commercials or something.

I watch this show to make fun of it now. I could have sworn this show was good about two months ago.

In fact, that was one of the times where he was the smallest. He was MASSIVE in 1991 at Wrestlemania VII.

That's why he had to go to WCW for a couple of years, because of the whole steroid thing with the Zahorian trial and Vince started giving the guys piss tests.

Heading to New York City in a few days to begin some potentially viable meetings that could impact what I will be doing in 2014 at least to some degree.

I'm excited to be meeting new people with fresh ideas who genuinely want to work with me in a relationship based on honesty, respect and professionalism.

The Q&A's here are updated as of Sunday morning Oklahoma time.

Crunch time for WWE as it relates to producing a compelling Monday Night Raw that sells the HIAC PPV which will be the 2nd, I think, PPV of the billing cycle for the company.

With the overall lack of main event depth in WWE these days, now would be the perfect time to get someone on a roll...attempt to get them hot and see if the individual can connect with the audience. One can always audible out of it but this matter can't be determined in a few weeks no matter how sage like some feel that they may be in determining such.

It's a process that is largely determined by the live audience's reaction over time.

All sports, or entertainment, fans want to support the 'stars' and 'stars,' IE heroes, and all have similar traits. They win more than they lose, they somehow eventually overcome when the odds are the greatest against them and they never quit. All these traits endears them to the audience. Fans can identify with winning. Loses become significant moments and not every other week occurrences.

50/50 booking helps NO one.

Those trying to re-invent the "booking" wheel and who refuse or simply ignore basic psychology and human emotions are foolish or naive or...gasp... egomaniacal.

Box office receipts and PPV numbers should convince any one who professes that the fine line between good and evil need not exist.

Happy belated birthday to Dusty Rhodes who turned 68 on Saturday....the same day that I celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary with my wife Jan.
I still say that Dream and Dick Murdoch has one of the greatest tag teams of all time and if you get the chance to watch a good sampling of their work on You Tube, etc jump on it.

Dusty was great to work for an announcer when he was the booker because he would tell you his 'vision' and then allow his broadcasters to go out and put Dream's vision in the announcer's words. Some of my best work was in Crockett's NWA and on TBS because being over produced wasn't an issue.

Don't get me wrong, every talent needs direction and to be produced to some degree but producing talents is an art and all talents can't be produced a like.

To those that have asked and to those who have offered, I have zero interest in doing the seemingly, obligatory "Shoot" interview. No thanks.

i wish they still had man on woman violence on TV wrestling. Randy dropping an RKO on Brie would do the trick.

This is what happens when you show patience with a storyline...The Rhodes brothers are very entertaining together...And the Shield can sell the hell out of a match...Big Show? Ha!...Like I said, Vince and them know what they are doing....

This is going to be a great feud...Rhodes Bros. with the TT belts makes this shit headlining material...

i wish cody had a better entrance now that he's over though, or better yet he and golddust should enter together*. still love this punk-heyman feud even though i'm bored by ryback.

i wouldn't have had a known creeper lock himself in a room w/ 2 women, especially not with that look on his face. but hey, what are you gonna do?

i still want to believe cena isn't on roids btw, but it's getting harder and harder. that's a hell of an injury.

*speaking of tag teams: the usos won the #1 contenders match and then mostly disappeared. lol.

In response to Reply # 0

He could have- hell, SHOULD have IMO- been a Taker/Kane type of character for the long haul. He could/should realistically be seen a legend at this point in my mind.

His 'mind games' angles were always intriguing, and he should have been built to be a main event player with a couple (1-2 at most, that type of character doesn’t need title reigns IMO, but it would certainly ) of stints with the World/WWE strap. There are just so many ways of booking a character like that and so much potential that I feel was wasted on over-emphasizing the gay elements of the character.

I don’t think he necessarily needed to have a ‘streak’ or anything like that, but I’ve always felt like he should have been a bigger character in the overall pantheon of WWE history. He’s honestly in that Mankind/Taker/Kane mold to me. Like… that whole DDP/taker angle was…. OK to me, but IMO that shit would have been an all-time feud with Goldust because it was the sort of story that would have played tremendously to the strengths of his character in a bigger way.

I know there’s been some rocky backstage stuff and personal demons that may have gotten in the way there, but either way I feel like there’s a major case of coulda/shoulda with him. He played a significant role in the Attitide Era and he’s definitely memorable, so it’s not like I don’t think he’s respected or remembered, I just think he could have been much closer to guys like Taker and Kane in the long run.

I’ve always been a Dustin fan going back to WCW, and I’ve posted as much here over the years, so this isn’t some Johnny-come-lately sentiment due to the current story w/Cody and Shield. I will say that it’s doing a tremendous job of reinforcing my stance on him though. He can definitely go at a high level still, and keeping up with The Shield like he has proves there’s still plenty left in the tank. In the end, I think he’s one of the most criminally underrated talents of the last twenty years at a minimum, and quite possibly a guy whose ultimate potential went largely untapped.

----

Smackdown SPOILERS 10/18

Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero and Raw GM Brad Maddox started the show in the ring. The crowd was booing Vickie so loud that I couldn't hear a thing she said. Maddox said that security was keeping Big Show out of the building. Daniel Bryan came down to the ring and told them that Big Show was already past security. Queue the Big Show's music, but no Big Show. Bryan then introduced the Rhodes Brothers. Vickie made a six-man tag for Bryan and the Rhodes vs. The Shield.

(1) Wyatt Family (Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) beat The Miz & Kofi Kingston. Sorry match. Harper got the pin on Kofi with a sidewalk slam. Miz did literally nothing. Bray cut a typical Wyatt Family promo.

(2) Brie Bella beat Divas champion A.J. Lee in a non-title match. Not much to say.

Big Show came out to cut a promo. He thanked the fans for their support on social media. Maddox and Vickie then came down to the ring. The crowd was booing so I couldn't hear what they said, but it ended up with Maddox getting KO punched.

(3) C.M. Punk beat Big E. Langston. Decent match between the two. Punk won with a GTS on Langston, which was really impressive.

After the match, Paul Heyman, Ryback, and Curtis Axel came out. Heyman and Punk cut promos on each other. The crowd was electric for Punk, then Ryback and Axel started to beat down on Punk. But, Langston (who Heyman insulted) came to Punk's aide. Not sure if this was a face turn or what but crowd popped huge for it.

World Hvt. champion Alberto Del Rio came out to cut a promo. It was a typical Del Rio promo. It ended with him putting the cross arm-breaker on Josh Matthews to demonstrate his finisher ahead of facing John Cena at Hell in a Cell.

(4) The Usos beat Real Americans. Usos pinned the Real Americans after Los Matadores interfered. El Torito gored Zeb Colter. After the match, the two winning teams celebrated in the ring carrying El Torito around.

(5) Daniel Bryan & WWE tag champions Rhodes Bros. beat The Shield in a six-man tag match. Great match on-par with the other six-mans from May/June. Bryan pinned Ambrose with his knee to the face finisher. The crowd was super-hot and they built up the Brian hot tag incredibly well. Most of the match was Cody selling for The Shield, then Bryan hot-tagged and the place went berserk.

Dark Match: Daniel Bryan beat Randy Orton. Back and forth match that ended with Bryan pinning Orton with a knee to the face.

In response to Reply # 0

If I could go, I would.

Chikara's Icarus is holding a rally for the #WeAreChikara movement. There have been multiple rallies, including one on the steps of the Art Museum a few weeks ago. T-shirts were given out at at least two of the previous rallies and I believe more t-shirts will be given out.

Chikara was in it's own lane as far as wrestling goes, and if you're not doing anything on the 2nd of Nov, you should go out. This is better than anything going in TNA or most of WWE (that isn't Rhodes vs. McMahons).

The FDR skatepark is a public space out in the open, and the entire park is free to enter. You won't have to worry about paying to get in or anything like that, and unlike the museum, parking around FDR is really easy/convenient (and also free.)

i dont really follow TNA but my brother scored us some 7th row tickets so i said fuck it.
pretty decent show overall.
thought it was weird for their biggest show that they did the "sell half the arena" trick though.

-Angle & Roode stole the show. That was a helluva match & the crowd was hot!
-i never saw Sting wrestle in TNA so i dunno if thats how he usually performs, but he should hang it up. his Scorpion Death Lock is atrocious.
-Bully & AJ progressed weird but it was a solid match.
-the knockout match was surprisingly dope. they take bumps like men in there.
-lastly, but certainly not least, as long as i have a face, Brooke will always have a place to sit

Felt like something was really wrong with Angle and shit just went downhill. I don't want to wish ill on Angle but I really want to think they would've planned a better finish than that.

Kurt looked out during one of the Crossface's.
Like he was legitimately out cold.
But he kept going so I thought I was trippin.
Then after that top rope Angle Slam, he didn't move an inch.
It was a very weird ending that probably was a work,
But he didn't look right at all.
Otherwise was definitely a great match

They're more focused on Big Show vs. HHH/Stephanie than they are Orton/Bryan. They've used HHH and Big Show to overshadow that angle as well as the rest of the show, really.

Have Bryan pursue Hunter (ala Austin/Vince) while Big Show gets after Orton (ala Foley/Rock)...then after a few months, no matter how you get there, bring Bryan back to Orton after he's gotten the rub of beating Hunter.

Monday night on Raw, when he pretty much buried everyone that actually wrestled for the company in the past 10 years, minus Rock, Brock, and Taker.

He didn't want to feud with Bryan; he thought Big Show would be a better feud, and he thinks that's the real money angle right now.

I don't think he actually agrees with what he said though.

And I do think splitting the angles would've been a great idea as the previous poster stated.

Yeah, that would make sense.

At some point Big Show should be allowed to wrestle actual matches again, it looks like the Punk-Heyman angle is done and who knows what the fuck is going on with this Cena thing, but anyway, point being, they have current wrestlers around now they can throw into the main event to not just rerun the same match every PPV. We'll see what they do next, I guess.

In response to Reply # 0

As I mentioned earlier, we are taking a big group to WM in New Orleans this year, and I found out that we can do group ticket sales by 10/31 to get tickets before they go on sale.

Thing is you have to do 20 ticket minimum and we are probably going to have 13-15 going to the show. I could just buy 20 with all the extras being cheap and try to unload them around face value, but I was thinking are any of you going in a group of like 4 or 5?

We can discuss the details if you are, but basically it's a group order form, you can buy tickets for separate areas so we don't have to be in one section, but you can buy 20+ tickets now (10/31 deadline) and have them shipped. I'd put them on my card and you could individually pay pal me for your block of tickets and I'll ship them to you.

Nice way to get it out of the way if you have a group going and not mess with ticketmaster the sale day or having to pay more on stubhub or something later.

*edit* Here is the form http://mbsuperdome.com/uploads/wrestlemaniagroup.pdf

I'm not looking to make a profit here, I'll share the receipt with you before you pay, you'll only pay for your face value ticket, shipping and any fee they charge. I just want to get tickets out of the way early for my group and don't want to be holding a ton of extra tickets

You can get any of the sections in that form, they don't have to all be 20 tickets from the same section. If you want to just go alone and get super cheap seats you can do that, or you can buy the really expensive ones.

We are buying 14 for us in the $105 section 301-303 seats, but the order can be split among sections.

I'm planning to do Raw and HOF also, but that is a seperate thing than this. General tickets for WM go on sale on 11/16 but it's going to be a huge pain, especially for a big group of 14, no way we all get tickets with each other unless we do it this way, that is where the minimum of 20 is the issue.

Right now it's looking like these are tickets I have

3 for a guy I found who wants to go with his group

15 for my group

2 extra including you. If you only take 1 of them that leaves me with 1 ticket to try to sell by itself which is hard, or needing to buy 21 tickets so I have a pair to sell which isn't really what I want to do (spend even more on my credit card and take on more tickets to have to sell).

I want to get you your ticket, but need it to go to a group of 2.

they really should have combined these 3 fall PPVs into 1. this was far too predictable, and just showed their inability to commit to anyone not named cena again.

tag championship was great, i love the tag division right now. it got my hopes up for the rest of the show though, then the rest of the show dashed them.

it's embarrassing that they made people pay to watch that khali match.

big e-ambrose was pretty good. i know it wasn't planned ahead of time, but they still should have done a title change since they're not doing much with it with ambrose.

punk-ryback was meh. i've been entertained by the mic work from heyman, but how angry can punk be over an MITB match that he didn't need to go after the title? and the kendo stick thing is getting boring.

cena. ugh. ADR has the perfect move to make an injured cena tap out, and cena still wins? jesus. at least have sandow cash in (that's the one thing that reddit user got wrong, so maybe they had it planned and cancelled it).

i've been firmly in the camp of wanting bryan to win the rumble then win at WM, which i think they'll still do. but they moved the story along too quickly during the regular shows to sell that kind of slow burn now. they might as well have just given it to him here at this point.

3 shitty ppvs in a row that were absolutely rushed, and they expect people to keep paying for it? as BrooklynWhat mentioned, the HIAC matches are boring if you can't do big spots. it's just guys running into fences at bad camera angles.

- i can't even deal w/ the fuckery of the Sandow/Cena shit. that's just special even by WWE standards.
- Shield breakup is incoming :/
- how the Real Americans gonna beat the Rhodes Bros when they couldn't even beat fucking Los Matadores
- Dbry and Punk sharing a hospital room together plotting on the Wyatts. I can't feign interest in that.
- for whatever reason ADR wants a rematch even though Cena will overcome that too.
- Summer Rae is not bad. Beats seeing Khali wrestle. Wonder when they'll bring more of the NXT girls up. At least Paige & Emma.
- Stephanie had dem thangs sitting on a rack.
- Da Viper still being an uninteresting, weak champion.
- Big Show getting another moment that should be Dbry's. He's soul snatched his whole wave.
- i'm sure there will be a gif of dem thangs bouncing when Stephanie was running.
- oh and LMAO at Ryback's doing the Bully Ray table setup AGAIN. i'm glad Punk is done w/ his sorry ass.

no one would hold it against him or his legacy. yet they STILL won't let anyone else have their moment against him. why would they waste the MITB contract on that bullshit? it makes absolutely no sense.

That is the only reason the thing worked out for Bryan, they were ready to bury him with that match and the Miami crowd refused to let it happen which spilled into the next night.

I don't think the crowd at the next few Raw's will give Sandow that same unignorable support Bryan got.

And nobody knew how much of a comedic presence he truly had.

Besides, it took over a year after the Sheamus job to materialize as a main eventer.

I'm not that confident about Sandow though, especially since they had been jobbing him ever since he won MITB and he doesn't have half the workrate to pop a crowd like Daniel Bryan does.

During today's conference call to discuss the third quarter financial results, Vince McMahon said he was not happy with this year's SummerSlam buy rate, and felt fans didn't "buy the attraction." He went on to say that for PPV, you need the right attraction, and SummerSlam was a "swing and a miss" for WWE.

They were way down from last year

I know it makes the internet mad, but Cena and HHH fighting in the main event draws people, Bryan does not no matter how over he seems on TV or on the internet, he just doesn't sell PPVs the same way. The WWE is aimed at a younger audience who buy (or have their parents buy) ppvs. Older fans, stream, tune in when they like what is going on, and make more noise in places we visit, but Cena is where the money lies. The quicker we all accept that the less annoyed we will be when it happens every time.

But the problem is they are eventually going to NEED to accept the fact that new/young guys need to be built. You might need to wait a bit before you see the return on your investment, but Cena and HHH aren't going to be around a decade from now.

I'm just saying all the stuff about how Cena should lose this feud or that feud etc...You spend enough time on the internet and you'd be convinced Cena on top is a bad move that they do because they are dumb.

SS was a swing and a miss compared to last year's double main event of HHH vs Lesnar and Punk vs Cena vs Big Show. Bryan fans didn't buy the PPV.

It does kinda suck that only The Rock has had Cena on the ropes. And they just took 3 years to have Cena win that feud cuz Rock only showed up 7x a year.

>SS was a swing and a miss compared to last year's double main

They kinda did the same thing with Hogan. It was over before they knew it. They kinda sorta tried with Warrior with WM6, but they backed out of it pretty damn quick and went back to Hogan by WM7 (and that Sgt. Slaughter stuff). Sure, Warrior was stone crazy and Savage was too (and prolly hurt too), but still...fucking up Hogan vs Flair in 92/93 is just crazy. I don't remember the accepted 'true' story. I'm assuming it had something to do with no one wanting to job clean.

http://www.jrsbarbq.com/blog/random-thoughts-opinionspro-wrestling-creativeorder-jrs-deliciousness-online-today

>Based on the WWE conference call this morning, executives were apparently disappointed with the Summer Slam PPV buys and the term 'attraction' was used as the reason. Couldn't agree more. PPV's are all attraction driven and they've always been.

However, the more that is given away on free TV and the more free TV that is provided in general the harder it is for attractions to be considered worth spending extra, big bucks on and adding to one's cable or satellite bill.

Plus, too often major storylines are 1. over thought and 2. over exposed in largely a 'sameness' presentation on free TV to make them feel special enough for one to want to invest significant money on PPV to see more.

I'm a believer that TV ratings can be achieved without giving away multiple, PPV attractions but only if long term, creative planning is firmly in place. Changing things on the fly and making 11th hour decisions regarding direction, etc will never be a successful formula.

PPV's should generally feature one of two things. if not both, in different, main event level bouts, 1. The 'blow off' of a well told storyline or 2. The first bout of a well set up issue. It gets very tricky when one is trying to get multiple, PPV's out of two talents on successive PPV events. It can be done but it's getting harder and harder or so it seems.

Storylines need to be simplified and made to be more plausibly believable and relatable to the average fan. That allows for the talents to create a discernable, personal issue and create an emotional investment that is required to manufacture success and to warrant spending more PPV dollars.

How some in the business can discount the lack of disposable income for the average Joe to buy monthly PPV's is beyond incredulous to me. Most fans cannot buy 12 PPV's in today's economy...no matter if it be in pro wrestling or MMA.....or both.

Plus, what new talent in the business today is truly "hot?" What new talent(s) provides must see TV and is in a professional ascension? Until someone new gets hot and connects organically with the audience then the shift in the perception of the genre, in general, isn't likely to change any time soon.

Stars sell tickets, it's always been that way, and until company's figure out how to commit to making new stars the business is going to on its current course.

The good news in another big picture item for WWE is that their TV rights fees are dramatically under valued, another prime example of the old, pro rasslin bias in my view. When WWE TV programming gets what they deserve and what the market will bear, business, at least on the financial side, will definitely pick up.

Getting several emails here and Tweets @JRsBBQ about 'deserving' NXT talents not being called up to the main roster in a more timely fashion. Firstly, specifically why are they "deserving?' Seconly, any new talent who's naive enough to think that they can become a star simply by showing up on TV without introductory vignettes and an established game plan in place for the first 12 months of their 'run' is being naive and foolish.

If the powers that be cannot agree upon an introductory 12 month plan then the talent is better off staying 'off Broadway' and refining their game.

Plus, it's obvious that several TV wrestling talents have arguably overstayed their welcome and either need to go away and regroup or simply just go away. It's not automatic that everyone who's currently appearing on a weekly TV wrestling show deserves to be there or that the business is their calling.

Rosters need to change and to be tweaked regularly and to systematically add 'new' talents to the mix. However, that requires that all decision makers make a commitment and to encourage that their support staffs have the courage to stand by their ideas and to also think outside the box.

The creative aspect of the sports entertainment genre is one of the most over thought, under achieving elements within the business especially when many fundamental aspects of the business are largely ignored and those within creative are afraid to express themselves or feel compelled to reinvent the wheel in hopes of endearing themselves to those in power.

Top talents back in the day had an open door to the bookers who made the decisions regarding the matches and the creative utilized in all bouts because the goal was to sell tickets as that was the way that revenue was generated, by and large. The talents had an agenda, to draw money, in which everyone involved benefited. When the business started becoming more diverse it was thought that a 'writing team' had to be created, then expanded and to eventually to experiment with more 'entertainment' ideas rather than 'competition' ideas which seems, in hind sight, to have been a fundamental mistake.

Too many cooks in an unorganized kitchen doesn't produce tasty meals.

Decision makers have to establish the long term direction of their companies and then rely on the creative minds within the organizations to help navigate the pre-determined route.

The lack of adequate, long term planning in the world of TV pro wrestling creative is the proverbial kiss of death.

That issue is followed closely by the lack of talent development as fans of every sport's team and entertainment entity love to have something 'new' added to the mix. (Think the NFL Draft...the introduction or a breakout star in a film, etc.)

We live in a society of 'new' and that self indulgent theory isn't likely to change any time soon.

Wrestling decision makers have to start looking longer at how an idea might be successful rather than automatically reacting to a suggestion as to why said idea won't work.

* Chikara announcer Gavin Loudspeaker played guitar and led the crowd at the skatepark in a singalong. #IamChikara t-shirts were passed out to those who didn't have them.
* Referee Bryce Remsburg showed up with his striped shirt, at the request of Icarus.
* A ring had been set up in the skatepark, and Icarus drove up with Hallowicked and AssailANT. Another car pulled up and out came Los Ice Creams and Kobald (the Prince of Goblins). They had a six-man tag match.
* Near the end of match a white Enterprise van pulled up and kidnapped one of the fans at the rally, a kid named Thom. The match continued as Icarus made Kobald submit and then they were informed of the kidnapping.
* Gavin, Bryce, and announcer Leonard F. Chikarason advised the crowd to disperse immediately for their own safety, ending the rally after less than an hour.

Some video from the rally including the bulk of the six-man tag match.

the only redeeming thing was Korporate Kane. they need to cut an elevator music version of his theme.
the rest of that sequence was so bad that i am stunned.

- 6 man tag was cool. Final Cut is dope
- Eva Marie is so fine that I can overlook how ridiculous it is that she vultured that win w/ that terrible rollup
- looks like serious Dbry is back.
- Steph hit HHH w/ that McMahon money ether.
- ADR/Kofi was snooze worthy as you would expect.
- Axel outjobbed Ziggler.
- didn't see Big E/Orton. gotta check that later.

and I can't recall a time in the recent past I've been so apathetic about the WWE. Right today I care about as much as I cared when John Cena had his hands full with Umaga and DX was facing the Spirit Squad. It isn't AS bad as that, but I just don't care much anymore.

They've abruptly pulled the plug on the Daniel Bryan program with no rhyme or reason other than the Summerslam buyrate. That's really the only thing that could've influenced their sudden handwashing of him. Fuck them.

You don't build top tier main event guys over night. You don't. Word Life John Cena didn't become JOHN CENA KMART SPOKESMAN without a long, steady, committed effort to make him a star. Not to take anything away from Cena, Cena is an all time great largely just because he's immensely charismatic. But Cena is also who he is now because there was an organized long-term plan to make him a made guy from day one. They've granted almost NO ONE ELSE that same opportunity since.

They gave Miz that chance, but he's just not great. He's not, that's it.

They sort of gave Swagger that chance, but he truly sucks and people simply don't give a fuck about him. Same goes for Del Rio, same goes for Lameus. After a while you realize some guys just are who they are. And those guys are lukewarm and flat.

They had no intent on giving Punk the chance. He begged and pleaded and eventually THREATENED them, then he got it and thrived. But they weren't going to ever get around to him on their own, there's no evidence to support the contrary.

Ryback was fun! Ryback was over! Ryback looks like a star, had a star's catchphrase, looked credible against the other few stars you had! ...then they pulled the rug out from under him, first with the completely pointless clean loss to Mark Henry at Wrestlemania then with a sloppily executed heel turn. Time will tell if Ryback will ever fully get back to what he was a year ago, but a year ago that guy was a stud who people were genuinely interested in and now he's another limpdick body, nothing more.

All of this brings us back to Daniel Bryan. I mean God damn boys the easiest story to tell is the small guy who gets shit on by bullies, then the bullies inevitably get their comeuppance. But even the most basic plans will not maximize their effective potential if you DON'T COMMIT TO THEM WHOLLY. It is now clearly evident that there was no plan in place past Summerslam. And it's a shame, because the Summerslam finish was brilliant. Just brilliant. But what good is making it to the sea if as soon as you arrive at the ocean you drown upon entry? That's what they've done.

It is a size bias? I don't know. Again, they found a way to ruin Ryback and that guy is built like an Escalade, and Punk isn't the biggest guy in the world and they stuck with him far longer than anyone expected them to.

They need to do one of two things - either admit that 3.5 a week is what you are now and try your best to serve that 3.5 consistently well every Monday, or commit to someone for two years and STAY COMMITTED ratings be damned.

Who is the guy? It can still be Bryan, I believe that. Roman Reigns stands a great chance if he ripens up some. I never thought Cody Rhodes would be even what he is now, but he's on an Orton-esque trajectory which is encouraging (provided they don't neuter him six months from now.)

No matter who they invest in, it's time to invest fully in somebody because this main event scene is just so-not-interesting.

when your most consistently entertaining shows are
1. your developmental league NXT (NXT is my shit. i wouldnt mind if it expanded another 30-45 mins)
2. the reality show Total Divas
3. flagship show Raw
you have to look at yourself and wonder what the fuck you're doing wrong.

i agree w/ most of what you said but there's one things that really bother me since i've started back watching on a weekly basis.

the commentary
one of the things that really sticks out to me watching NXT is how Regal will find SOMETHING to complement a wrestler on. to really make you think that this guy knows what the fuck he is doing no matter how bad he actually is. Cole, JBL and King fucking suck at commentary. all they do is just parrot whatever the administration says and King adds absolutely nothing these days. a prime example of this is how they clown the fuck out of AJ's tattoo she got for being Champion. its like...i thought everyone's goal is to be champion when they get in the business. yeah wrestling's fake, but wouldn't it be "in character" for a person to want to commemorate and accomplishment? but nah, Cole, JBL and King just clown her something awful about it. and this is a major factor (one of many) in why they can't build a new megastar to save their lives right now.

- another problem is why they hide character promos on the WWE website that nobody checks instead of the show. but i guess the WWE app is so important that it takes precedence over the actual competitors. they have enough material and talent to make a quality 3 hour show and GROW the product. but they just refuse to use it.

we could go on and on and dissect the shit out of this. but it's like Punk said back in 2011, Vince is a millionaire that should be a billionaire but the product sucks. it's really only getting by because of the residual effect of the behemoth it became in the Attitude Era. i wish the WWE had some legit competition to force their hand.

Most of the older heads in the locker room call her a "belt mark".

And you really can't blame them. The Divas Championship is useless, and for the most part, it always has been.

That tattoo is taking it to the extreme.

Also, the top goal nowadays isn't to be a champion, especially when WWE's belts mean less now than championships ever have in the history of wrestling. Your goal should be to make money and be the top guy. John Cena didn't have a single belt all of last year, and there was no question that he was still the top dog in WWE. He draws money and he makes money. The belt doesn't really make you; it's only an enhancement tool to help you make money.

That's why the whole "A-player" angle has a lot of truth in it, and the angle sorta conveys both Triple H and Vince's feelings on the entire landscape of WWE, minus the whole Randy Orton being the face thing.

JBL, Cole and Lawler don't have any chemistry together. It's hard enough for two people on commentary to have chemistry. Three is awkward. Those guys are like ice cream, asparagus and gasoline. They don't come together to make anything. Add in the constant in-ear coaching from Vince and that makes it worse.

The way that announcers talk about Heels now is basically to just insult them and put them down.

It used to be about how they were coniving, bad, arrogant or whatever else, but they were still tough as nails. They still were all business in the ring and had the ability to hurt you.

Now they spend a 7 minute Sandow match talking about how much they dislike him for 7 minutes and never once talk about what actually makes him a good wrestler.

Cole used to be really bad at this and I think he got in trouble for it and had to change, although he actually did it for faces since he was the heel commentator. I feel like they forget how much the announcers can shape how we view the match and the people in it.

That was pretty awesome, right? I enjoyed the match. I feel like Bryan has been fighting various Shield members almost weekly for the last eight months or so, and I can't say I've tired of it yet. Punk seemed like he was having fun with all those dudes too, so that was a nice addition.

I will say, I got really excited at the thought of the Shield taking on the Wyatts, and maybe we'll get that at some point soon. Those guys teaming up is also getting me pretty hype, though. So can we assume that's a 12-man Survivor Series tag match now, with the Wyatts and Shield taking on Bryan, Punk, the Usos, Goldust and Cody? Because that has the possibility to be great. I guess we'll see where they go next, but that end has me excited to see what happens with all these dudes next.

...as i ffwd through most of this show.

- blandy vs rhodes bros. loving the anti-randy chants.
- stone cold big show coming out w/ a visible limp. maybe this will save us from a PPV match no one wants to see or actually things blandy will lose.
- los matadores + santino vs 3mb *presses ffwd*
- kofi w/ pants vs sandow *more ffwd*
- dolph zig zag ziggler vs curtis axel. axel is lucky he's a legacy.
- korporate kane "i'm making a tag team (handicap) match playa!"
- zack ryder sighting. he's the worst wwe shop sales person yet.
- tamina vs nikki bella *ffwd*
- fandango vs tyson kidd. they're selling this fight w/ a Total Divas clip lol. *ffwd*
- cena vs the real americans. "let's go cena/cena sucks" back and forth chant. it's amazing how the crowd gave ADR absolute fucking silence. that first Cesaro uppercut was TOUGH. he didn't hit the second one (the combo) as nice as he usually does. Big E's saving everybody out here lately.
- r-truth vs ryback. truth added new lyrics to his song!
- ADR vs Big E. more silence for ADR *ffwd*
- IWC MegaPowers vs shield. oh man that was fun. i cant wait to see that 6v6. and i definitely cant wait for shield vs wyatts.

no Authority spotlight hogging made tonight feel like a breath of fresh air.
