"Poll question: Would you still like to see Mayweather v. Pacquiao?"
Call me crazy but after this present revelation of just how dominant Floyd really is, all of a sudden the Pacquiao fight seems a bit more appetizing.
Yes, Pac got blitzed by Marquez and may never be the same - but let's not forget that Pacquiao actually looked *very* good before getting the plug pulled out the socket by that brilliant J.M.M overhand right.
If he can look just as dynamic (without getting knocked out lol) against Rios, would that reinvigorate the Floyd-Pac noise? Not even a little bit?
I just look at the all available opponents for Floyd and simply do not see a viable challenge. Sergio? Sure, if he can get down to 152 or 154, but I still feel Sergio blew his load in the Chavez fight and will never be the same. GGG? lol we might as well throw Ward into the mix - along w/ B-hop - because cats are really reaching to find an opponent by citing guys 2 full divisions heavier than Floyd.
Anyone at 147 or below excite you as a potential Floyd opponent? See, I just don't see Khan, Garcia, and 140 guys giving Floyd much of a run. Floyd is not only bigger than those guys, but he now fights big, too. He was the bully in the Canelo fight - and I think he'd bully those guys as well.
Yes, Pac is also smaller, but I just see the southpaw, unorthodox style possibly making the fight interesting - as it was v. Corley (at least for a round) and Zab (for 3/4ths of that competitive fight)
I'm hoping for a dynamic pacquiao performance against Rios because (1) let's face it, Floyd needs an opponent who at least makes you think the fight might be somewhat competitive; and (2) pacquiao is really, really fun to watch when he's on.

but Pacquiao will give him plenty opportunities to bang away without applying too much technique/science.
I think Pac's chin will be tested - and it's still questionable as to if he'll recover fully from that lights-out KO, but if he can bounce back, I agree that he'll chop Rios down with superior firepower.
>The public will call for it. > >Arum will demand too much at the negotiating table >(as if his fighter just did 2.2 million buys) > >Fight won't happen
I don't know - I kind of feel like Arum is bordering desperation knowing that many of his top brass are all retiring or in the twilights of their careers, fading fast. His ego has gotten in the way w/ his business relationships, and he may want to go out proving he can still deal and do business one last time - now that he's mismanaged, used & abused Pacquiao (and Cotto's) respective careers. One thing Arum does like to do is cash out - and this would be a cash out.
That being said, you're prob right - Arum won't let it happen and he'll hold onto his grudge for Floyd w/ cold, dead hands.

2-3 years ago the fight was Ali-Frazier levels of mythic legend. Now it's an after-thought, and the fight was honestly dead to me - until Floyd dominated Canelo (the one legitimate threat - or at least I thought) - and now I see nobody on the landscape that is interesting for Floyd.
But if Pac can be competitive won't we all forgive & forget as deep down many of us crave a rivalry epic?

>Floyd embarrasses Manny for 12 rounds, the end.
High probability that happens. Still, who would you rather see fight Floyd at this juncture - knowing that he likely has just 4 fights left in his career?

he just needs to beat one more high level opponent. i just don't know who will actually be willing to fight him? Guerrero already turned the fight down. Broner might have the balls. he's taking on Maidana AND called out Matthysse (before the L of course). if Danny doesn't get Floyd next i don't see his people allowing him to take on Thurman considering the risk/reward.
outside of that i'd still give Matthysse a decent chance against Floyd. Garcia's not savage enough. he'll try to box too much like Canelo did and get picked apart... but Lucas, if he's still the same fighter after last week, has the type of relentless, skilled-savage style to *possibly* give Floyd trouble. i don't think Floyd throws the type of powerful combinations that Garcia does. it's usually one punch at a time, so it could be interesting.

Manny is still a southpaw w speed and power which has troubled Floyd at times. he's not on Floyd's level, but who is? Floyd might win another laugher, but name me a better fight for Floyd that doesn't involve a fighter that's 2 weight classes above him.
The thing that sucks though is it could've been the most important fight of its generation, now it feels more like it would be an interesting fight that did huge numbers.

yup. That's where I'm at.

It could've been - but Pac could've been dominated 2-3 years ago just as Canelo once last weekend and the hype would've been for nothing. Only good thing about the fight now is that nobody expects all that much from pacquiao - so even if he can lose in a competitive fight, it'll still up his legacy -- which is true testament to just how great Floyd is. All time greats like Cotto lose to him and get credit for their performance.

A lot of people seemed to give Floyd his due after Canelo (except for CJ Ross...). I think if he's knocked Manny off his pedestal 3 years ago a lot more people would have seen the light earlier. I might be wrong on that, though.

when interest for the fight was at it's highest floyd fought infrequently (once a year), retired (TWICE!!!), and presented unforeseen obstacles at the negotiating table basically anything he could do to hem and haw during that 3-4 yr period when the fight could have been the biggest event in sports history manny went on to get robbed in the bradley fight, then got caught while going in for the kill against marquez and now interest is dead the same ppl in here saying they have no interest now had no interest THEN the argument simply switched from floyd makes enough money he doesn't have to fight manny to marquez beat manny so floyd would kill him nevermind the fact that a>b b>c so a>c doesn't work in boxing it's actually some of the most faulty logic you could use while evaluating the sport (see manny and trout's performance vs. cotto compared to floyds for example) just boggles my mind how a segment of fans of the sport argued against seeing perhaps the biggest fight in the sports history floyd is an all time great and manny won fighter of the decade while putting up dominating performances against much bigger men when he dropped cotto wit a CHECK hook i was like woah smh the sport really lost out by not having it when it should imo even if it happens some how i think it would be roy vs. bhop II levels of meh
anyway, on top of the decreased interest manny is fighting in macau with 0 (or very low at least) taxes if you don't have to give uncle sam half your money why would u china may end up being a very lucrative market for him basically building a new fan base and getting beaucoup endorsements and what not
12. "after JMM/Pac 3 I didn't even need to see the fight...." In response to Reply # 0
Most people's enthusiasm died when JMM effectively ended Pac's career as a top P4P fighter but if you actually paid attention to boxing it was clear that Manny wasn't going to beat Floyd.
JMMs counter punching was so effective vs Manny in the 3rd fight I lost interest in seeing him vs Floyd.

2015, Manny fights under Mayweather Promotions for $60M guaranteed, $99.99 PPV either broadcasted in 3D or it'll have a concert in the undercard ft. Beyonce & Jay-Z.
that's my elaborate, girl scout cookie induced guesstimate.

We say if this had happened 2-3 years ago how epic it would have been, but Floyd would have made him look so bad that Manny would have at once become devalued and called "overhyped."
The only way that haters can take shots at Floyd is to constantly criticize and downgrade his defeated opponents. They'd have done the same with this too. Arum knew better, since he's caking off of Manny's ass, he figured collect as much money from as many fights before the wheels fall off.

whether its family coming over to watch the fight or closed circuits in vegas...the parties will be CRACKIN. weigh-in, press tour, etc. once officially signed by both fighters, the buzz leading up to the fight would be EPIC, regardless if Floyd is a lock to win.
as if y'all are excited about Floyd vs. Garcia lolol
