"Aaron Hernandez's home searched in murder investigation"

hooray patriots TEs!

http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/9400650/aaron-hernandez-new-england-patriots-questioned-homicide-probe-report

Investigators searched New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez's North Attleboro, Mass., home Tuesday in connection with the death of a man who police said was an associate of Hernandez, ABC News reported.

ABC News reports that Massachusetts investigators plan to interview Hernandez about the death.
During the search that lasted hours, two friends of Hernandez who were in the house tried to leave but were stopped by state police at the end of the driveway. Crime scene investigators later searched the car the men attempted to leave in, according to the report.

Authorities searched the home of Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez on Tuesday night in connection with a homicide. Hernandez has not been named as a suspect.
On Tuesday night, some police officers stood on the front steps of Hernandez's home and others could be seen inside. Some walked around the driveway and in the garage with flashlights. Before wrapping up their work for the night, one officer took a box out of the massive house.

Hernandez has not been named as a suspect, but a rental vehicle with Rhode Island plates was found near the scene, which led investigators to Hernandez, SI.com reported.

Hernandez was initially uncooperative with police after the body of a 27-year-old man was found in an industrial park not far from the Patriots player's home, two law enforcement sources told ABC.

Hernandez is represented by the Athletes First agency, which said it has no comment "on the Aaron Hernandez situation." The player's mother said by telephone from Connecticut on Tuesday she had no knowledge of a case involving him.

"I am aware of the reports, but I do not anticipate that we will be commenting publicly during an ongoing police investigation," Patriots spokesman Stacey James said.

The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro, Mass., reported on Tuesday that police identified a rented 2013 Chevrolet Suburban with Rhode Island license plates in the town 40 miles south of Boston in connection with the possible homicide. The paper reported the vehicle is registered to Enterprise and investigators were hoping to analyze it for fingerprints.

The Patriots drafted Hernandez out of Florida in 2010. Since then, he has combined with Rob Gronkowski to form one of the top tight end duos in the NFL.

In 38 games, the 6-foot-1, 245-pound Hernandez has 175 receptions for 1,956 yards and 18 touchdowns. He missed 10 games last season with an ankle injury and had shoulder surgery in April, but is expected to be ready for training camp. The Patriots have not said which shoulder was operated on.

Last summer, the Patriots gave Hernandez a five-year contract. It was worth $40 million, according to reports, and came just months after the team locked up Gronkowski, through 2019.

"Aaron's improved a lot," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said at the time. "He's worked hard, he's improved a lot in all phases of the game -- the passing game, the running game, protection and his overall versatility. He's doing a good job for us."

http://www.tmz.com/2013/06/19/aaron-hernandez-new-england-patriots-lawsuit-gun-shooting-miami-strip-club/#c6636906

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was sued earlier this month for allegedly shooting a man in the face following an altercation at a Miami strip club ... TMZ has learned.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Florida on June 13 -- five days before investigators searched the NFL star's Massachusetts home in connection with a homicide investigation that appears to be unrelated.

According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Hernandez and Alexander S. Bradley went to Tootsie's Cabaret in Miami on February 13, 2013 ... and during the outing, the two men got into an argument.

Bradley claims ... After the dispute, both men left the club -- and got into the same car which was heading to Palm Beach. During the ride, Aaron allegedly aimed his weapon at Bradley ... and the gun discharged, striking Bradley in the face.

Bradley claims he suffered major injuries from the gunshot ... including the loss of his right eye.

Bradley also claimed he required major surgery to reconstruct his face ... which required plates and screws. Bradley also claims he suffered damage to his right hand and arm, which also required surgery.

There's more -- Bradley claims Aaron was not licensed to carry a firearm in the first place.

Bradley demanded more than $100,000.

But just 4 days after Bradley filed the lawsuit, the case was DISMISSED.

We reached out to Aaron's people for comment -- so far, no word back.

10:34 AM PT -- Sources connected to the case tell us ... Bradley's legal team only dismissed the case because there was an error in the paperwork ... and they FULLY plan to REFILE the lawsuit TODAY.

We're also told ... Bradley will argue that the bullet initially struck him in the arm and continued traveling through his body until it struck him in the face .... blowing out his eyeball.

a NY lawyer (who is a member of the FL bar, tbf) for a FL lawsuit, and one who is definitely an ambulance chaser from his website and was part of the investigation into the millionaire madam and represented the massage therapists who sued over the Favre dick pics.

he is a real life, if more wealthy, Saul form Breaking Bad it sounds like.

edit: and there's no police report? thug life...i guess, but once dude had to get surgery, wouldn't the hospital have to report it?

NFL.com has also obtained an offense report from the Palm Beach
Sherrif's Office related to the day in question. That day, shortly
after 6:45 a.m., a man later identified as Bradley Alexander Sherrod,
30, of Hartford, Conn., was found in an alley near Riviera Beach. He
appeared to be shot in the head and the hand, the report said. Bradley
repeatedly said at the time he did not know who shot him, the report
said, but the wounds were not self-inflicted.

Bradley wasn't cooperative, and told one investigator he didn't want
the case to go any further.

"I explained that without his cooperation, the investigation would
cease," one deputy wrote. "He understood."

kinda hard to win your case when you lied to the cops and then ask for money months later. lol.

but he probably telling the truth now.

edit: somewhere i read that his lawyer claimed there was no report. probably more like "we just didn't bring it up"

In response to Reply # 0

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl/news/20130619/aaron-hernandez-history/

ORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, who has been connected to a possible homicide this week near his home in North Attleboro, Mass., has been dogged by off-field issues dating at least to his time at the University of Florida, multiple NFL and law enforcement sources have told SI.
Hernandez was questioned by police on Monday, a source told SI. His house was searched for more than two and a half hours Tuesday evening by a dozen state police investigators. Hernandez is not believed to be a murder suspect.

Police are investigating the death of a male, whose body was found on Monday at an industrial park less than a mile from Hernandez's house. A vehicle rented in Hernandez's name has emerged as a key piece of evidence, and police are trying to locate another vehicle -- a 2013 Chrysler 300 -- that was also rented under Hernandez's name.
The victim of the possible homicide was identified Wednesday as Boston Bandits semi-pro linebacker Odin Lloyd, according to WBZ News. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez's girlfriend, WBZ reported. Lloyd was shot in the head, according to ABC News.
The probe likely will cause investigators to scrutinize Hernandez's complicated past.

On June 13, a Hernandez acquaintance, Alexander S. Bradley, filed a civil complaint against Hernandez in U.S. District Court alleging that a gun -- in Hernandez's possession illegally -- discharged and shot Bradley in the face, causing the loss of his right eye. The suit alleges Hernandez and Bradley argued at Tootsie's strip club in Miami. The gun discharged while Hernandez, Bradley and other associates were returning from Miami to Palm Beach.
Four days later, on Monday, Bradley dropped the suit. It is not known if there is a connection between this incident and the North Attleboro case.
Bradley v. Hernandez complaint (.PDF) | Order of dismissal (.PDF)
Hernandez fell to the fourth round of the 2010 draft in part because of marijuana use while with the Gators, something he admitted to NFL teams at the scouting combine when he was a draft prospect, according to several NFL sources.

Personnel sources from multiple NFL teams tell SI that they had off-field concerns about Hernandez. In particular, the questions pertained to alleged gang activity of some of Hernandez's associates in his native Bristol, Conn. A law enforcement official familiar with Hernandez reiterated concerns about his circle of influence.
Combined, the marijuana use and gang concerns worried some NFL teams immensely.
"There were a lot of teams that had him off the board," said an NFL personnel executive.
But with the Patriots, Hernandez has been little problem for the team. Teammates described him as enthusiastic with some minor maturity issues, but not to the point of being a problem. At times the team had a tough time corralling him as far as staying focused on the field, but nothing beyond that.
"
He really is a great kid at heart," said one former teammate. "He was a great teammate, just loves football. Won't find many guys who practiced harder."
Independently, both a former and current New England teammate said that they believed Hernandez was having some trouble with his past associates and was seeking distance from them. Bristol, Conn. is just a two hour drive to Hernandez's home.
"It was a thug life," is how one teammate described some of Hernandez's friends.
Hernandez was the youngest player in the NFL, 20, at the start of his rookie season. He's still just 23.

Hernandez's older brother, D.J., has been well respected in his career as a college assistant coach at Brown, the University of Miami, and now the University of Iowa. Hernandez was a two-time captain as quarterback and receiver at the University of Connecticut.
Both brothers had to endure the loss of their father, Dennis, in 2006 at the age of 49 due to complications from hernia surgery. D.J. was 19, Aaron 16 at the time. The death of Hernandez's father was one of the reasons why Hernandez decommitted from UConn and chose to play for coach Urban Meyer and the Gators.

the other two guys are weed carriers (most likely)
hernandez just signed a 40+ mil extension with 16 guaranteed
just assuming someone that might be going to jail regardless could be swayed into being compensated for completely absolving A.Hen of any responsibility

edit: in the original comment "15-20" was referring to 15 to 20 yrs ...not million dollars

post-game conference style.

FBI: Bill, were there any signs that this was the path Aaron was going to take from the get go?

Bill: A guy like Aaron, you know there's many paths he could have taken and I trusted him to take one.

FBI: Bill, what would you say to Aaron right now?

Bill: I'd just say to Aaron what I'd say to anybody in his position, y'know? Just go out there and give it your all.

FBI: Bill, what does this mean for how you plan to use Tim Tebow in the 2013 season?

Bill: *exits podium*

FBI: Bill, were there any signs Aaron was spending time with a rough crowd when you drafted him?

BB: we drafted who we thought was best for the team

FBI: right but Bill, this is an important investigation. There's a dead body. Did you see anything in your time spent with him that would lead you to believe Aaron might be capable of a crime like this?

BB: I'm just trying to get the team ready for training camp and the preseason. That's what we're focused on right now.

FBI: ........OK...Bill...not sure you're understanding the gravity of the situation here. Aaron Hernandez may have killed a human and shot another one through the eyeball. Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

BB: we've already talked about Aaron. We're focused on training camp right now and that's what we're looking at.

FBI: ..............................

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

And did the exact opposite:

- Leave the body a mile from your house when the guy was from Dorchester, a good half hour away.

- Leave your car at the scene

- Hire professional cleaners to come in, probably paid by check just to leave more of a trail.

- Smash all you electronics, like a phone contents can't be traced if you do that.

I am surprised he didn't just leave a trail of his jersey's from the scene back to his house and then right to the stadium for good measure.

It is probably less than two miles away from the Stadium. If he was in the prison yard on a Sunday, he would problem hear the roar of the crowd.

Imagine living with that everyday? Knowing you were a millionaire working in front of millions a mile or two away and now you are stuck behind those gates.

101. "ABC: Hernandez warrant issued"

http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/9409826/police-issue-arrest-warrant-aaron-hernandez-new-england-patriots-reports-abc-news

Massachusetts State Police issued an arrest warrant Friday for New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez for obstruction of justice in connection with a homicide investigation, ABC News reported.

The warrant, first reported by WBZ NewsRadio 1030 and citing an anonymous law enforcement source, was issued after police discovered that the security system at Hernandez's home, along with his cellphone, were destroyed, sources told ABC News.

Police were at Hernandez's home again Thursday with another search warrant based on evidence that Hernandez "destroyed his home security system," an investigator close to the case told ABC News.

The investigator and other law enforcement sources confirmed the security system was smashed intentionally. Hernandez's cellphone was handed over to investigators "in pieces" by his attorneys, sources added.

Surveillance video from the North Attleborough, Mass., neighborhood of Hernandez shows him with Odin Lloyd and two other people hours before Lloyd was killed earlier this week, sources confirmed to ABC News late Thursday.

In addition, the Boston Globe reported that video images appear to show Hernandez and Lloyd together on Fayston Street in Boston early Monday morning.

Hernandez, 23, has been at the center of the investigation since the body of Lloyd, a 27-year-old semi-pro football player, was found shot in the back of the head Monday in an industrial park near Hernandez's home in North Attleborough.

Hernandez has not been ruled out as a suspect in the murder, law enforcement sources told ABC earlier Thursday.

Police also want to know why a team of house cleaners was hired on Monday to scrub Hernandez's mansion, sources told ABC News.

Police say Lloyd was dating the sister of the mother of Hernandez's daughter.

Meanwhile, a lawsuit has been refiled in Florida against Hernandez by a man the tight end allegedly shot in South Florida in February. The lawsuit contends Alexander S. Bradley was shot in the arm but the bullet traveled to his head, causing him to lose his right eye.

Video footage by a WCVB-TV chopper showed Hernandez traveling by car to Gillette Stadium on Thursday morning. He left the stadium shortly after noon, then was swarmed by reporters after he stopped at a gas station.

The Boston Herald reported that Hernandez was told to leave the stadium by staff, who were waiting for him when he showed up for a workout. Patriots spokesperson Stacey James told the newspaper that he had no idea why Hernandez came to the stadium.

"No coaches are here," said James, who declined further comment to the Herald.

Lloyd's body was discovered in a clearing near John Dietsch Boulevard, not far from a vehicle that had been rented by Hernandez. Police have ruled Lloyd's death a homicide.

"It has been widely reported in the media that the state police have searched the home of our client, Aaron Hernandez, as part of an ongoing investigation. Out of respect for that process, neither we nor Aaron will have any comment about the substance of that investigation until it has come to a conclusion," attorney Michael Fee said in a statement.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating a silver mirror cover believed to have been broken off a vehicle and might be visible along a route of travel between Dorchester, where Lloyd was from, and North Attleborough.

The NFL is not commenting on the Hernandez situation at this point, a league official told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. But the NFL is monitoring developments, as it would in any matter of this nature.

Bradley, the man who claims he was shot by Hernandez after the two argued upon leaving a Miami nightclub in February, is represented by New York attorney David Jaroslawicz.

Asked whether he has a police report of the incident, Jaroslawicz declined to provide information. According to USA Today Sports, his client was in the hospital for weeks, and "I'm sure the police were there."

A spokesman for Miami-Dade police told USA Today that he was checking to see whether a report was filed.

A police report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff describes a shooting incident involving a man named Bradley on Feb. 13. The sheriff's office deemed the case inactive because Bradley refused to cooperate. Hernandez was not named in the report.

In another development Thursday, police in Providence, R.I., said Hernandez was taunted in May by a man at a nightclub near the Brown University campus but walked away. The man followed Hernandez for three blocks and a crowd formed, held back by police while Hernandez got into his vehicle and left.

Information from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter and The Associated Press was used in this report.

the only thing that would concern me here for this guy is that he might have been too goddamn dumb to even have a situation where somebody could voluntarily take the blame here.

outside of that, the grease will be flowing. this guy has a pretty major interest to protect here, i bet his buddies don't. he'll pay handsomely if it's remotely possible.

By Stephanie Gosk and Erin McClam, NBC News

Aaron Hernandez, the star New England Patriots tight end, lost his first endorsement deal Friday as police spent a fourth day investigating a killing near his home.

CytoSport, a sports nutrition company whose products include Muscle Milk, said in a statement that it was ending its contract “in light of the investigation involving Aaron Hernandez.”

Hernandez also has a two-year endorsement deal with Puma, the sportswear company, announced earlier this year. A Puma spokeswoman said Friday that the company was aware of the situation but had no comment.

Up here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts this summer, the circus truly has come to town. At their luxurious new courthouse on the Boston Waterfront, the feds have brought to trial one James "Whitey" Bulger, an octogenarian sociopath allegedly responsible for 19 murders and countless other acts of mayhem, many of which he performed under the protection of a Boston FBI office that was as twisted as a pig's dick, and who was finally run to earth in California a couple of years ago after existing for years as either a legend or the basis for a Martin Scorsese film. (Robert Duvall has been in rapt attendance at the trial.) The parade of former hit men, gunsels, and other middle-management officials from Whitey's criminal enterprises that the government has brought forth as witnesses against their old supervisor truly has been an awesome spectacle, and we're only just getting started. Whitey was a celebrity. He was armed. He's in the middle of a televised freak show. He's the damn American dream, walking.

Meanwhile, at a luxurious new mansion down in North Attleborough, the local and state police have spent the weekend investigating Aaron Hernandez, a 23-year-old tight end responsible for 175 receptions and 18 touchdowns, all of which he accomplished in the employ of the New England Patriots, in full view of the nation, and occasionally on national television, who now is more than suspected of being involved in the death of a man named Odin Lloyd, whose body was found in an industrial park not far from Hernandez's home. Hernandez has yet to be charged with anything, but the parade of local cops, state patrolmen, law-enforcement technicians, forensic dweebs, police technicians, and highly paid television haircuts in and around the Hernandez driveway truly has been an awesome spectacle, and, god knows, we're only getting started.

It's going to be a big summer for Going to our own Todd Tonsorial live at the scene, and Todd, tell us what the mood is there right now. Television news directors have the ol' Orgasmatron set at 11 and it isn't coming down anytime soon.

Celebrity murder is always showbiz and it always has been. The first completely human interaction in the Bible is Cain braining his brother in a field. (Another early one is Jacob trading his brother a bowl of pottage for his inheritance. So, it can be said that, according to Scripture, the dealings of human beings with each other began with a murder and a swindle. Whitey Bulger has nothing on Jehovah, at least in his literary persona.) We have had a couple dozen Crimes of the Century every century. The only difference has been technology. The kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby was the Crime of the 20th Century, then it was the O.J. Simpson case, and the only difference was that Bruno Hauptmann got covered by the Daily News and Simpson's white Bronco got tailed by television helicopters. They were both Crimes of the Century.

The dynamic of celebrity murder is as odious as it is inevitable. It requires the media — and the complicit public, namely us — to invest ourselves in the notion that some murders are more heinous than others, more worthy of our attention than others, and, therefore, that some victims are more lamentable than others, with all the moral ambivalence that calculation obviously entails. A celebrity murder also requires of the media that creates it an insatiable appetite for anything and everything that can be attached to The Case; a multimedia black hole is created, sucking in all information that comes within its zone of darkness. Cousins are interviewed. Hell, the diaper-service guy for the house down the block gets interviewed. Theories are propounded. Long-distance psychoanalysis is practiced. Big Thoughts are thought and, worse, expressed, about What It All Means, when, really, all it means is that human beings will kill each other, which we learned back in the early chapters of the Bible, remember? Nancy Grace rises from the box of fresh earth in which she sleeps every night to stalk the cable landscape, feeding vicariously on the blood of the victim.

That's Aaron Hernandez's life now, as he peeps out the window of his McMansion in North Attleborough and sees the satellite dishes springing up around him. Whitey Bulger missed all that because a corrupt FBI agent tipped him to his imminent arrest, allowing him to go on the lam. Now, there's only his trial over which the media can slaver, and that's something of a more tightly controlled environment. But it's open season on Hernandez, whose behavior since he first became of interest to police in this matter hasn't done him any favors. He smashed his home surveillance system. He had his lawyer deliver a cell phone to the police in pieces. (The fact that he had his house cleaned last Monday means less to me, since maybe that's the day the maid comes anyway, but the fact that it was "linked" to the other two more mysterious events shows you the way this was headed.) First, we heard that an arrest warrant already had been issued for him. Then, on Friday, a clerk in the local court said, no, there hadn't been one issued. Everybody knows everything, and nobody knows nothin'. But Aaron Hernandez, who stands convicted of nothing except obvious stupidity, has gotten himself involved in a death in which the people who get interested in such things have gotten interested so, therefore, it must be an Important Event and, therefore, everything that touches it must be Important, too. Let's go live to the scene.

ARAM BOGHOSIAN FOR THE BOSTON GLOBE VIA GETTY IMAGES
Jackie Brown at twenty-six, with no expression on his face, said that he could get some guns. —George V. Higgins, The Friends of Eddie Coyle

The truth of it is all there, right in the greatest opening sentence of any American novel not written by Herman Melville. From the moment that Hernandez's involvement in the investigation became public, we have been treated to endless mock-sociological speculations about his "upbringing" and his "background" and how it may have been contrary to the Patriot Way, the always mythical concept that Robert Kraft was the first football owner in history to run his franchise according to the Rule of St. Benedict. This was always hooey, but the Patriots eagerly promulgated it in the days in which they were winning Super Bowls and their $40 million tight ends were not getting caught up in homicide cases. So, perhaps, the team did set itself up for a degree of petard-hoisting anytime one of its players got caught doing anything remotely outside the bounds of propriety. And what Hernandez is suspected of doing is pretty damned far outside those bounds. So, yes, we are all justified in our snarkery at the fact that the Patriot Way seems to have taken a turn in the general direction of Castle Dracula.

(Also, and this is the least important part of it all, I suspect that things haven't been too cool around the Brady manse these days, either. The quarterback gives back some dough when he signs and, subsequently, the club defenestrates Wes Welker, then one of his tight ends — the crazy party dude — seems to have developed unsolvable medical issues, while the other one of his tight ends — the heavily tattooed dude — gets roped into a homicide case and may be spending at least most of the summer trying to avoid the hoosegow. Danny Amendola's in for a rough training camp.)

The vetting process for college kids who want careers in the NFL is already intrusive. The draft process is already vile and (probably) utterly against antitrust law. Face facts. You are trying to determine if someone has enough "character" to make a living playing a brutal sport based on the fundamental immorality of destroying the human body for entertainment purposes. You are trying to assess the "character" of someone you're going to turn into a tool and a commodity anyway. The basic moral conundrum in the middle of all of this is not capable of being solved. All you can do is guess. So you guess. And you hope for the best. The remarkable thing is that more players don't end up like Aaron Hernandez.

Of course, we will have endless bloviating about what in Hernandez's "background" may have warned off the poor, misguided Patriots, had they only known, which I guarantee you they did. But, seriously, how are you supposed to "vet" a player so as to know whether he might get involved in killing a guy? Because he smoked some weed in college? Please, do not be stupid. Because of the "influences" around him while he was growing up? Please, do not go there at all. You might question why a player seems to be involved in so many unfortunate occurrences involving firearms, but then Wayne LaPierre will show up on your lawn, hurling anathemas and spittle at you. When Roger Goodell speaks out that it's too easy for everyone — not just NFL players, but their friends and "influences" who never get out of the places where poverty and crime go unremarked upon by the television hairdos — to get their hands on deadly weapons, then I'll buy the hype his sycophants ladle out.

When it is pointed out by enough people, in sports and out, that the culture they so deplore in music is the result of an armaments industry that will allow nothing to be done about the ceaseless flow of deadly iron into the neighborhoods where that culture brings that iron to bear, when they start worrying as much about Colt and Smith & Wesson as they do about rap music, then I'll take the condescending media talk about how Aaron Hernandez was raised without laughing too loudly. The NFL has the same problem the country has — too damn many people have too damn many guns.

Early Saturday morning, on Intervale Street in the Roxbury section of Boston, there was a "dispute" at a party. Three people, two men and a woman, were shot. All three of them are as dead as Odin Lloyd is. On Intervale Street, cops are working through the first real heat of the summer trying to find a guy in a maroon — or was it red? — car who might have been the shooter. These cops are working just as hard as the cops in North Attleborough. They will do their work unencumbered by minicams and television haircuts and armchair sociology. That's because whoever did the shooting doesn't count enough for that and, because of that, the victims do not count, either. I suspect the cops are just as happy about it, anyway. They're the ones who have to deal every sweltering day after sweltering day, hot night after hot night, with the consequences of the actions of the rich white men who arm the "gangsta culture" that the rich white men of sports talk radio will chew on endlessly as the saga of Aaron Hernandez stretches out through the summer. The Patriots should have known something was going on with this guy. Look at his friends. Look at his "track record" — or, if you're being really tough on the radio, his "rap sheet." He smoked some weed. He allegedly shot another dude in Florida.

With a gun, I might add.

That's the meal that will be made of Aaron Hernandez, all summer long, even if this case gets resolved and his involvement in the whole thing is revealed as having been minimal. There will always be a Bigger Story or a Larger Issue to yap about. Rap music. Tattoos. Low-riding jeans. "Entitlement," whatever in god's name that really means. And the carnage will go on, and the distant white men will continue to profit from the flow of more illegal iron into the places where the next Aaron Hernandez — and, indeed, the next Whitey Bulger — is just now coming up. I mean, hell, why "vet" Aaron Hernandez at all? He's a celebrity. He's armed. Now he's in the middle of a televised freak show. He's the damn American dream, walking.

Aaron Hernandez indicted in 2012 Boston double homicide
Hernandez accused in deaths of Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu, Safiro Teixeira Furtado
UPDATED 10:32 AM EDT May 15, 2014

BOSTON —Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez has been indicted in connection with a shooting that left two men dead in Boston in 2012, sources told Team 5 Investigates Kathy Curran.

Hernandez came under scrutiny in the shooting deaths of Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado following his arrest in the slaying of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player whose body was found June 17 near Hernandez's North Attleborough home.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to murder in the Lloyd case and is being held without bail.

According to a December search warrant released earlier this year, surveillance camera recordings showed Hernandez and another man, Alexander Bradley, going into the Boston nightclub Cure at about 12:30 a.m. on July 16, 2012, shortly after the shooting victims went into the club.

Hernandez's movements inside the club weren't recorded, but police said Hernandez quickly downed two drinks and that he and Bradley left after about 10 minutes. Surveillance video then showed Hernandez driving a Toyota 4Runner out of a nearby parking garage with Bradley as a passenger, the warrant said.

The footage shows the victims leaving the club at about 2:10 a.m., and Hernandez's SUV passing by them twice as they walked to a parking garage to get their car, the warrant said. The shooting wasn't recorded by any cameras.

A third man who was shot in the car but survived, Aquilino Freire, told police an SUV pulled up next to them while they were stopped at a traffic light, and he saw someone in the SUV's back seat laughing, the warrant said. Then, several gunshots were fired from the rear passenger seat into the car, Freire told police. Two other people in the car ran away, Freire said.

A witness in another car told investigators that he saw an SUV with Rhode Island license plates run a red light, stop next to the victims' car and he heard six gunshots. He described the SUV driver as a light-skinned Hispanic man with short dark hair.

Aaron Hernandez was arraigned today for the drive-by murders of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado outside a Boston club in July 2012. He pleaded not guilty, and for the first time, the prosecution offered a suspected motive: disrespect.

According to the D.A., Abreu accidentally bumped into Hernandez, spilling a drink, and did not apologize. This infuriated Hernandez, who according to the prosecution felt he had been increasingly disrespected at clubs. Surveillance video captured Hernandez angrily pacing outside the club before the victims left.

The victims had no idea Hernandez was angry at them, let alone that he was following them when they left the club. According to the prosecution, Hernandez pulled up alongside their car at a stop light, said "Yo, what's up now, ?" and fired at least five shots.

Hernandez's attorney complained that the case has been a media spectacle, and the coverage has unfairly biased observers against his client. The court magistrate fired right back, saying the trial has so far been speedy, transparent, and fair.

Hernandez was ordered held without bail, and will next appear in court on June 24.

http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/11009175/aaron-hernandez-struggling-pay-lawyers-court-filing-says

The $18 million Aaron Hernandez made in three years as a tight end for the New England Patriots apparently was insufficient income to be able to afford the defense attorneys he has retained in legal proceedings.

Hernandez, jailed for nearly a year without bail in Massachusetts as he now faces murder charges related to the killing of three men, has filed a motion asking a Suffolk County court for two months "to make financial arrangements to retain counsel," according to legal filings, the contents of which were first reported Friday by Fox Sports and later confirmed by ESPN's Michele Steele.

The district attorney's PR department had no comment to ESPN's Steele, but said it is aware of the situation.

Boston lawyers Charles Rankin and James Sultan, along with attorney Michael Fee, have represented Hernandez since last summer when he became a suspect in the June 17 killing of Odin Lloyd.

They appeared earlier this week at his arraignment for charges in the killing of two other men, but Rankin and Sultan filed the motion with the court, writing that they may decline to continue as his counsel in the ongoing cases. They said their retainer with him has been "limited to arraignment only and related proceedings."

Fee, who recently changed law firms, was not included and has not filed a similar motion, according to the Fox Sports report, which said none of the lawyers responded to requests for comment.

Fox Sports reported that part of the reason for Hernandez's money troubles stemmed from his home in North Attleborough, Massachusetts, being under a restraining order. The order prevents the sale of the home for any other purpose than to pay off a future judgment in a civil lawsuit. That suit was filed by the family of one of the men he is charged with killing.

Public records show he paid $1.3 million for the house in November 2012, according to the Fox Sports report.

Two of the men Hernandez is charged with killing were shot in a drive-by about six weeks before Hernandez signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the Patriots.

Hernandez had previously made $620,000 as a rookie in 2010; $650,00 in 2011; and $13.25 million in 2012, $6 million of which was part of a $12.5 million bonus to be paid as part of the contract extension. Another $3.25 million was paid in March 2013, with the remaining balance of $3.25 million in dispute between the Patriots and the NFL players' union.

Hernandez, 24, was released by the Patriots last summer after he was charged in the killing of the semi-pro football player Lloyd, who was dating a sister of Hernandez's fiancee. Lloyd's body was found in an industrial area near Hernandez's home.

Hernandez's lawyers have said he is looking forward to proving his innocence.

On Wednesday, Hernandez pleaded not guilty to seven charges -- including two counts of first-degree murder -- in the July 2012 shooting that killed Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. Prosecutors say one of the men bumped into Hernandez at a night club and spilled his drink.

Hernandez, who will continue to be held without bail, is due back in court June 24 for a scheduling hearing.
