"The 2013 Rafael Nadal Championship (aka French Open)"

Having both Djokovic and Nadal on the same half of the draw really blows. I think they used to seed the players based on surface performance, not sure why/when they stopped doing that (or was that Wimbledon?)

Have a feeling Fed's quarter final streak will end sometime this year, although his path to the last 8 here doesn't seem too bad, only danger is Benneateau in the third round.

was watching Sportscenter w the fam last night and -- doth my eyes deceive me? -- saw the French Open draw (well, the notable players) on the bottom ticker.

I think whomsoever takes the Nadal/Djoker half will take it.

But hell, what do I know?

I'm thinking Tsonga v. Djokovic.

Tsonga playing for his nation's pride. Djokovic physically exhausted from a grueling semi win over Nadal and fighting for his career Slam.

this motherfucker can't think straight...all the fucking talent in the world. He had this game on a platter....he just zoned out. I was pissed watching him the last match when he would hit a forehand, and stand there to admire it, then remember Gulbis was hitting back. Fuck Monfils. Such a fucking waste of talent.

he's always been a mediocre player that wins on athleticism alone
he does not have any distinctive shot...the only way he manages to win game is by running and keeping the ball in play

so when he runs out of gas like he did vs Robredo, he loses. It's that simple. Nothing to do with heart or not wanting it or anything like that, that's just cliches people like to spout out. He's just not that good, period.

to carry a gameplan into a match. 80% of his issues happens between the ears. The match against Robredo was an easy one to win. He just went out there like he always does to hit aimlessly and show off shots, without focusing on building stanzas and capitalizing on key games to win. Then he got tired and just fell apart. He is more than an athletic guy, if he can just think.

there's literally nothing he does really well, besides defend
nobody who's watched tennis just a tad seriously ever thought he was capable of winning a slam

if anything, he overachieved in this tournament

but yeah, let's keep bullshitting about mental toughness

Nadal would've most likely demolish him, but still. Anyway, his top spin's been affected by the wet conditions I think. Lack of sun = lower bounce. Djokovic will make it tough for him in the semi regardless though.

if he doesn't over think it, he should be able to take care of Ferrer and make it to the final

then if somehow Djokovic gets rid of Nadal, he'll have a decent shot (and how ill would that be 30 years after Yannick). If it's Rafa...not so much.

but I think Ferrer's clay court game will propel him to his first Slam final...it's just that he has like a 5% chance to beat whoever wins the top half. Hopefully Haas & Wawrinka will make things interesting.

Incredible match by Djokovic though, any other person would've gave up at 5-6 15-30 in the 4th, but Nadal is the fucking man though, for a moment in the 5th it seemed like Wimbledon 08 where the long time champ was gonna lose a 5 set heartbreaker...then NOPE! Still mesmerised at some of those ridiculous running forehand winners he hit. The king stay the king!

Jo obviously got the talent, but in this case, he got swallowed by the pressure, as he came in as somewhat of a favorite following his dismantling of Fed, with all kinds of expectations on his shoulders. No way he loses to Ferrer in straight sets if he had faced him earlier in the tournament.

hit a few unforced errors early on and it seems like that was enough to throw him off completely. Not disrespect to Ferrer, the Memphis Grizzlies of tennis, but Tsonga was supremely disappointing today. Good thing we had a total gem of a match before because this (and likely the final) was not exactly a shining example of the sport
