McCoy challenges “old man” Vick to race, and gets smoked
Eagles safety Colt Anderson has posted the basic details on Twitter: quarterback Mike Vick and running back LeSean McCoy raced in practice on Thursday, and Vick won.
But there’s more to the story, which we’ve obtained from a league source with knowledge of the situation.
McCoy had been riding Vick for weeks, calling him “old man” and challenging Vick to a footrace. Vick had been laughing it off, until today.
Today, Vick had enough. So he asked coach Chip Kelly if he could accept McCoy’s invitation. Kelly agreed.
So they lined up and took off, and Vick didn’t just beat McCoy. Vick smoked McCoy by roughly five yards over a 40-yard distance, and their teammates went nuts.
It has no direct relevance to the fate of the 2013 Eagles, but it proves that the “old man” can still move, which is bad news for any defense facing him this year.

Thought all of us realized & agreed that he took a paycut to come back so he'll be the vet starter bridge before Kelly gets a guy he really wants in there (or until Vick gets hurt again).
Had no idea anyone was still under the impression he'd be here past 2013.

for Vick and the eagles regardless of what happened the last two seasons
Maybe not *high* expectations, certainly not as high as they were the last two seasons, but making the playoffs should be a reasonable goal for this team considering the talent they have. The eagles success will be predicated not on what Vick does but what he doesn't do (INTs/fumbles/) and I think Kelly will utilize the pieces around him better than Reid which should cut down on his mistakes.

Mark Sanchez being one, Vick being another.
Neither guy is expected to be their team's long term answer, neither of their teams are expected to compete for something significant.
Both for financial and practical reasons are placeholders while their teams figure out what they're going to do but the reality is that the long-term future likely doesn't involve them.
Now since the Eagles actually have some talent unlike the Jets then they might be able to make a bit more noise but I certainly don't expect greatness or playoff wins.
Mike Vick has won two playoff games in his entire career. I don't expect him to suddenly be some kind of incredibly efficient, mistake-free, cerebral shot caller who is gonna stay healthy and lead this team to the Super Bowl.
Kelly's whole thing is gonna take time. This defense still doesn't promise to be good. The O-Line should be highly improved & a new leader at the Head Coach slot is certainly going to be a much-needed shot in the arm.
But eventually that coach is gonna prolly bring a new leader at the biggest position as well.
So no, I don't expect anything from Mike Vick besides be the mercurially talented but fundamentally flawed guy he's pretty much always been besides about 8 weeks in 2010.
I do know he'll play hard & leave it all on the field when he's on it but ultimately he just sorta is who he is at this point.
I'm just glad we're not trying to build around Foles, can use a 4th round flyer on Barkley to see if he can be a guy we might be able to depend on later & if not no real harm done we'll keep looking.
To me this season is about progress, not really even worrying about the prospects of winning in 2013.
This is a 4-win team with a poisoned culture plus at least two if not three shitty draft classes before this one we just had. Thats not something you can bounce back from real easy in a 12-month period.
Vick was fumbling at league-high levels long before he met Andy Reid or went to prison, I'm not expecting different now because we changed coaches.

foles might get a real chance to compete so we don't even know if vick will start or be here yet right today with the buzz from the draft and the framework for his philosophy being laid out piece by piece this is feeling like a harbaugh situation where a dude comes in and gets the most out of a talented roster not going go "playoffs!" before camps even starts, but worst to first in the division happens often in the nfl
