He calmly steals money with no conscious.

Kobe got the Lakers to the playoffs so there's no way he stole money. While you're bullshitting he willed the Lakers to victory multiple times this year. They haven't won a playoff game this year without him.

Jeff Green: 25 pts, 8-17 shooting ,4 rebs, 1 TO (now 27 as I type)
Carmelo Anthony: 29 points, 8-25 shooting, 5 reb, 7 TO

now, you could argue melo's team is winning the series, at which point I'd point out so is Hibbert's.

i'd make other cuse/hoya comparisons, but no other cuse player is doing shit in the playoffs, so...

Dwight effect paper was pretty damn conclusive--Hibbert's a defensive stalwart.

and his offensive efficiency numbers are much improved after his wrist injury was identified this year.

hibbert is a poor man's deke on defense and actually gives you a little more offensively.

While not the defensive presence(not everyone is born 7'2), Seikaly was a much better offensive center and a better rebounder than Hibbert. And he did it in a league where the center play was way better than it is now.

Not sure why you assume I can't, this is the first time I recall even discussing Hibbert here.

Lets not act like being 7'2 isn't his biggest gift though. It's not the only reason he's good though.

cmon man i saw this guy's whole career, he was as tall but not as a strong, he had better hands and agility but didn't really use either and generally played well below his potential.

per 36 minutes they are about the same on rebounding and hibbert is getting better. you also factor in that the rebounding leaderboard today is lower across the board than it was then.

better center competition would be a fine argument if seikaly won a single fucking thing in his career. yeah, he played against hakeem, robinson, ewing, et al, and they handed him his ass. hibbert holds his own against anybody today and he has no time machine to find this sacred competition. shit shaq didn't have to play 24 games a year against russell and chamberlain, i guess he was a shittier player than nate thurmond then, right? i hate those arguments, they just add a hollow dimension to an already lousy argument usually.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

He was a very solid player in Miami.

I saw his whole career too. He faded a little early, but he had some good years.

i mean he was better than duckworth or rik smits when he could barely walk, but so what?

hibbert is a noticeably better player right today than rony seikaly was in the NBA. there's no getting around THAT.

In response to Reply # 101

As I said, his prime ended sooner than it should've as he lost athletic ability and started getting hurt a lot, after about 6 years or so.

When he was a legit, solid player he was on a brand new expansion team that was obviously terrible. After a few years they started making some noise with Seikaly, Rice, Smith...but they were young.

"But, holy cow, did Hibbert announce himself to a national TV audience that might have ignored the Pacers this season, including during their first-round win over the Hawks. Hibbert finished with five blocks and played a huge role in holding the Knicks to just 15-of-34 shooting in the restricted area, per NBA.com."

Those #s were so low they skewed everything.

Down the stretch in March and April he was shooting well over 50% putting up like 17 and 9

and hes such a defensive presence. Honestly of all the bigs I watched this year he was the best in terms of just clogging up space andmaking it hard for guys to get shots off when theyre near him.

edit: well melo's numbers are obviously better but Hibbert's been indiana's best player and he got the 2 wins.

Let me say this again....It makes little sense to judge a player (Howard) during an injury-plagued season...I think Hibbert deserves props for raising his game to another level...He is playing to his height which to me is a no-brainer...But as good as he has been, dude has never shown consistency during an entire season on THIS level...

It's amazing how people conveniently forget that Howard took a team of role players to a Finals...

Perspective folks...

But with that said, it's cool that Hibbert is making a lot of folks on this board look stupid...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

from where he was to where he is amazing- only thing that's certain is that he'll keep working hard to improve, if his work continues to manifest at even half the rate of improvement over the next 3yrs he'll be the best center in the game.

EDIT- he'll be the best 'Big Man' in the game; the best center might be more versatile, play in more spots on the floor. but Roy could be Basically Automatic- same place on the floor every play, but you can't stop him.

-and i'm speaking in literal terms when i say he could not run on the treadmill when he arrived at gtown; dude made Georghe Muresan look like Turbo from 'Breakin''...

improving the way he has from freshman year onward because there's always a diminishing marginal return on hard work plus he's got some obvious limitations. lateral mobility can get a little better, sure, but not that much better. i don't care about straight line speed, means nothing to a player like him. he has zero lift already, got that divac "get the thin phonebook" leaping ability. if he could explode a little better, FUCK, he could play so big, he really would be "shooting over chairs" (c) shaq. but he can't, odds are his minutes are right about where they are going to be now and his production is very close.

howard is a much, much more athletic player with his own set of frustrating limitations but they are not as restrictive as hibbert's imo.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Not at his current price tag though. He needs to give me 19 points a night at a minimum to start talking about that sort of price tag. His D is good but not THAT good, considering how middle of the road his offense is- and that's at it's peak IMO.

You build a team around Dwight, while Roy is merely an excellent piece.

I will say I'd like to see this Indy team with Granger healthy, but he's likely to be trade bait for a point guard unless David West leaves.

hibbert had a horrible season by most accounts
google "roy hibbert disappointment"
iono if a good 2-3 weeks of ball against an underachieving knicks team and a team with basically no front court means he's now worth a max contract again
if i remember correctly he balled against the heat last playoffs
iono maybe it's a situation where you over pay a dude cause he plays the team you think you have to beat well like what the thunder did with perk/bynum
but for the money i rather have gasol or cousins or somebody i think will be more consistent over the next 4+ yrs

here are some other young players that re-upped last offseason. google their names and "disappointment" and let me know
steph curry, jrue holiday, james harden

balling when it counts?
that's for sure, saw it last yr too. give him props for that
loss 1 more game tho and he may go thru another season of pacer fans asking 'why are we paying this guy max money'

he grouped them together as players who re-upped last season and were earning their paychecks. holiday made the all-star team and then got a kings ransom in a trade because of his workable contract. by the standards SPM set above, yes, he should be grouped with harden and curry. that isnt say he is as good as them, but it's saying he fits the criteria laid out above. also to say the sixers should have won more than 34 games last year is still wrong. if anything they probably should have won a few less. i just dont get what you're jumping at here.

rim provided that indy stay winning. He's one of the best rim protectors in the league.

Him dropping 20 every 4-5 games is nice icing as well.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

$15mil per for his numbers? meh. he wouldn't be the big man i'd want for that kind of money but he serves a specific purpose for the pacers as it concerns their ultimate goal (beat miami...they so fucking pressed, smh)
going be hard to hate on him as long as the pacers are good and the defense is highly ranked

worth isn't the same as cap possibilities.

Lebron is worth $50 or $60 million. the point is, at $15 million, he's providing great value. bobby boxscores and cuse fans are excluded from the rational minds who understand that reality.

the contrast of him beasting while they beat the Heat last week and him missing crucial minutes with foul trouble last night watching them lose the lead from the bench being the latest examples of that fact.

Indiana would happily still sign that same deal again right today.

The Hibbert Effect
By Brian Martin

With less than two minutes to play in the fourth quarter of Tuesday night's game in Indianapolis, the Miami Heat had scored four straight points to cut the Pacers' lead to five and had the ball in their possession looking to cut the deficit even more.

http://stats.nba.com/photos/lebron-shot-1-576-131211.jpg

LeBron James gathered the ball outside the 3-point arc and ran a pick-and-roll with Chris Bosh, driving toward the right sideline. Paul George was unable to fight past the pick and David West did not hedge to cut off James, who turned the corner with a clear lane ahead of him.

http://stats.nba.com/photos/lebron-shot-2-576-131211.jpg

As this happens, Quinn Buckner of the Indiana broadcast team says "Oh no" as James drives toward the basket and says it again as James gets ready to put up a layup. But as we listen to the "Oh no's," we also see Roy Hibbert leave Chris Andersen at the top of the key to pick up James on the drive.

http://stats.nba.com/photos/lebron-shot-3-576-131211.jpg

Hibbert challenges the layup, but does not block it, as the ball hits the backboard and then the left side of the rim and bounces away for the miss.

The play is registered as MISS James 2' Driving Layup in the play-by-play. There is no mention of Hibbert since he did not block the shot. However, it was his defense that altered what initially looked like a play that would cut the Pacers' lead to three with 1:44 to play.

Instead, the Pacers held onto their five-point lead and the Heat would get no closer. In fact, the Heat would not score until the final seconds of the game on a Ray Allen 3-pointer with the Pacers comfortably ahead by nine points.

This has been the challenge when it comes to measuring defense using statistics. A look at the box score from Tuesday's game shows that Hibbert recorded one blocked shot, well below his season average of 3.0 (second in the NBA). It gives no indication of how important his defense was in helping Indiana secure the come-from-behind win over the defending champs.

The good news is that we have graduated to a new era of analytics and with the use of SportVU player tracking data and video from each play of every game, we can now better analyze defensive impact.

With SportVU player tracking, we now have statistics for rim protection, which measures the opponent's field goal percentage at the rim while it is being defended. Rim defense is defined as the defender being within five feet of the basket and within five feet of the offensive player attempting the shot.

Among the 48 players that face at least six field goals at the rim per game, Hibbert leads the league with opponents shooting just 39.7 percent against him.

Here is a look at the top five:

Player | BLK per game | Opp FGM at Rim per game | Opp FGA at Rim per game | Opp FGP at Rim

Roy Hibbert (IND) 3.0 3.9 9.7 39.7%
Brook Lopez (BKN) 2.1 3.8 9.4 40.2%
Tyson Chandler (NYK) 2.5 3.8 9.3 40.5%
John Henson (MIL) 2.3 2.8 6.7 41.8%
Joakim Noah (CHI) 0.9 2.9 6.8 42.3%

In addition to the missed layup by James in the final two minutes, Hibbert made an impact on seven other plays at the rim on Tuesday night. And by using the new interactive box scores we can now watch video of each of these plays.

Let's start with the easiest one to measure -- the one blocked shot that Hibbert recorded against Chris Andersen.

2nd Qtr; 4:45
Hibbert BLOCK (1 BLK)

Now we have to do some digging to look at the Heat's shot attempts at the rim that were missed and see if Hibbert was on the floor and whether or not he made an impact on those misses. Here are the five plays where Hibbert helped force a Miami miss at the rim.

When looking at these five plays, you'll notice that three were shots by James and two were shots by Mario Chalmers. While most of them were with Hibbert as a help defender coming off of his man to help guard the basket, the first one is the result of a switch that had Hibbert guarding James one-on-one. The Indiana broadcast team is calling for help for the big man, but he is able to hold his own against the reigning MVP on this play.

2nd Qtr; 2:50
MISS James 3' Driving Layup

3rd Qtr; 8:02
MISS Chalmers 3' Running Jump Shot

3rd Qtr; 7:30
MISS Chalmers 3' Reverse Layup

Part of what makes Hibbert so effective is his ability to challenge shots without fouling. When you look up the law of verticality there should be a picture of Hibbert next to it as he is the master of going straight up, with his long arms held high, but not coming down on the offensive player as he attempts a shot. As long as the defender does not jump into the offensive player or swing his arms down to attempt a shot block, contact between the two players is allowed.

"He takes a lot of teams out of what they're accustomed to doing because he's so great at the rim and protecting the rim," said James after the game. "And they allow him to use his verticality rule, more than anyone in our league. He does a great job of changing your offense and making you take contested shots at the rim or contested jump shots."

4th Qtr; 6:28
MISS James 2' Layup

4th Qtr; 1:44
MISS James 2' Driving Layup

And finally, when you are one of the preeminent defenders and shot blockers in the league, occasionally you are going to commit fouls when protecting the rim. On Tuesday, Hibbert committed two shooting fouls, both in the second half and both against LeBron James.

3rd Qtr; 7:21
Hibbert S.FOUL (P1.T1)
James Free Throw 1 of 2 (13 PTS)
James Free Throw 2 of 2 (14 PTS)

The first foul didn't help the Pacers as James went to the free throw line and knocked down both shots. However, in the fourth quarter, it was a different story. Once again James went to the rim, once again Hibbert fouled him. But this time James missed both free throws. Considering Hibbert wasn't in foul trouble, this would definitely be categorized as a good foul. Make the player earn the points at the line rather than at the rim. And in this case, James was unable to do so.

4th Qtr; 6:00
Hibbert S.FOUL (P2.T2)
MISS James Free Throw 1 of 2
MISS James Free Throw 2 of 2

So while the box score only lists one blocked shot for Hibbert, a closer look using video and player tracking data allows us to truly measure how much an impact Hibbert had on defense to help Indiana earn the win over Miami on Tuesday night.

If Hibbert sucks so bad then why are teams shooting 40% at the rim against them? It's like he doesn't realise this isn't football - he is on the court on both ends.

SMH at people saying Hibbert sucks and DMC is the best in the NBA.

1 is leading the best defence in he NBA and on track for the best D EVER. (per possession)

1 is leading his team to the lottery for the 4th straight time.

But yeah Roy sucks. lol.

He could literally go to the bench on every offensive possession and he'd be in the top 5 most valuable centres in the NBA.

They also got flummoxed by the Heat when they decided to turn it up. As of now, they are basically the 3rd best team in the L w/ injury ridden Clips/Spurs right on their tails. Meaning once those squads are healthy I'm not even sure they will be the 3rd or 4th best team in the league considering they peaked early in the season.......if the Blazers (who also beat the Pacers when they were BOTH peaking) get a serviceable back-up big then the Pacers might be relegated to the 6th best team in the Association. They should thank David Stern for the state of the Leastern Conference.

>Oh, right, he wasn't and they won the chip.
The Celts DIDN'T NEED Perk to score whatsoever.....2008 Celtics had PRIME Pierce/KG/Ray to do the scoring & Rondo running the offense as oppose to a boarder line all-star (D-West), a young star (Paul George), an unproven cat (Born Ready) plus a combo guard FORCED to play point (George Hill). You are reading shyt out of context.

They can't live w/ him on offense, they can't live w/o him on defense......which means they are in a quagmire.

That was like a 100yrs ago in basketball years

>no ASG buzz for lance stephenson?
Jamal Crawford wept..he wouldn't get a buzz if he played in the west.

>i dunno, this is
>getting sad and desperate.
How is this desperation when the Pacers have been backpedaling since January & haven't beaten a decent team on the road since the calendar flipped to 2014. The reason being their offense is atrocious for a contender & Hibby ain't helping whatsoever. Thus, this needs to be upped anytime he get his lunch eaten by the opposition on his side of the court.

importance to Boston when he was traded and in OKC but Hibbert is basically a middle class man's Perkins.

Is it really too much to expect your 7-foot "defensive" center to get more than 3 or 4 rebounds? Is rebounding not a part of defense?

in all seriousness tho, you gotta watch indiana play miami to understand his value. On paper, Chandler looks so much better. Hibbs numbers are terrible.

and proclaiming Ls based on half a series? lol.

the cognitive dissonance, man. hibbert's shitting the bed, along with that entire team, pretty much. but he was still the anchor of that defense. that #1 defense. and the hawks are a pretty terrible matchup for him.

i'll take an L because he's played like crap and apparently, we judge based on the past 5 days or past month and never based on longer periods here. but that's dumb and if the pacers escapegoat him, they'll be wrong for doing it.

That doesn't excuse the gaudy stats he had tonight, especially 16 rebounds, but he isn't a bum.

With that being said, unless Hibbert rises like a phoenix from the ashes and does work against Miami in the next series, this post is a never ending W.
