"April GD Post: Paulie Walnuts edition"

This is my dog, Paulie Walnuts:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/554162_726402212202_1083618392_n.jpg

He's skinnier than he should be because (despite being vaccinated) he managed to come down with parvo. He had to spend some time at the vet hospital, but he's home and doing a lot better now.

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/68581_725328059812_1209344459_n.jpg

He thinks he's a lapdog. Not sure how that's going to go once he weighs 80+ pounds, but it's kind of cute for now.

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/483257_724150454742_47791717_n.jpg

Sometimes ya gotta show 'em who's boss.

i still blame hip-hop.

White folks...you finally got my sympathy. This shit is annoying. Esp in the shower. I couldn't imagine being scorched from head to toe. You're some brave people to put yourselves through that shit just to get a tan.

It's the subsequent itching, by a landslide.

I've been burned on my entire torso, front and back, so badly on two occasions... that at night, the only way I could sleep was to have someone wrap me insanely tight in quilts. It aggravated my burn and caused me to sweat profusely, but the incredible pressure on my torso helped quell the itching for moments at a time.

Anyone ever been burned so badly that a couple days later you actually SLAP your burn as hard as you can to try to make the itching stop? It's like cruel torture, itching that badly. Worse than anything I could imagine.

I'm pale.

Wife and I were out in Maui almost seven months ago for our honeymoon. Ahe in particular is REAL susceptible to sunburn, so we staked out spots by the pool that we know would be in the shade (with the aid of umbrellas) for the longest.

Boston Terrier. Named after both Marvin Gaye and Marvin the Martian. He's about two and a half years old. In about a week, we'll have had him for a year. "Rescued" him for some jerk. One some true white people shit, he's pretty much the center of the household. I think 90% of the photos on my phone are of him.

Oh, and sorry to hear lil' man got parvo. Glad he's doing better though.

I frequently crack up just looking at him sitting on the couch.

A couple of our old neighbors in our loft complex had two Bostons, and they would chase each around all the damn time. They were the ones who pointed us towards Marvin. After one theirs passed, the other and Marvin were frequent playmates (she was his first girlfriend). They'd chase each around the park/back parking lot/loft until we made them stop.

Just a great breed.

I sent a link of my soundcloud to a well-liked OKP MC and he picked 3 of the 8 tracks I smashed Bartek with.

That and there are also a couple of smaller but known artists I’m in contact with who are open to submissions, so that’s something to look forward to. I reinstalled Cubase and Hypersonic and created a couple of sketches that I really liked, so I decided to get back on the grizzle.

My major issue now is, what platform do I use?

I’m sticking with Cubase, possibly updating to Artist 7 so long as the workflow debacle of 5 doesn’t remain. 3 is still very usable though.

I’ve got a request from said OKP mc to do a sampled track, and that really hasn’t been a hallmark of mine since I left the MPC because I’ve never been able to replicate that sample-based workflow using software.

It’s a brave new world now, where hardware and software integration is beginning to come into its own and I definitely want the hardware experience again. So I’m down to a couple of possibilities:

-Maschine/Maschine Mikro, which is the leader from what I’ve seen. It seems to be the best of both worlds overall.

-MPC Studio. I love that work flow, but I don’t know that I trust Akai on the VST front just yet. Maschine can act as my VST host and I’ve used Kontakt and Massive for years, so that tight integration seems to nudge me closer to Maschine.

Any Maschine/MPC Studio users in here? Any pertinent things I should know? Most of the reviews and videos I see might as well be written by NI themselves and the anti crowd seems largely made up of people who simply didn’t stick with it, didn’t get it, or expected Maschine to do the work for them.

Also, if anyone has experience on both full sized Maschine and the Mikro, any major control differences with the smaller controller will be helpful.

I’m excited, personally.

Oh, and I may as well offer up the SC link. These are all older tracks but if anything piques your interest, let me know. I’m open to working with quality MC’s.

2300 miles in 9 days. different city every night. only filled up 4 times (hybrid, ftw!)

NYC > Baltimore > DC > Charlottesville > Durham > Charlotte > Atlanta > Savannah > Charleston > Fayetteville > DC for the Elite 8 > Philly > NYC

had a blast. no two cities were more than 4 hours apart, so the driving was easy. it fucking snowed in virginia, though.

I'm a little embarrassed to say it as a lifelong NY Jew, but Bodo's Bagels in Charlottesville was the best bagel I've ever had.

I could easily do a road trip like that for months at a time. great food, great company, met a few okps, and stayed within our budget.

Then, monday morning going back to the office for my first post-vacation day of work, I got fucking rear ended on the Northern State Parkway. There are not enough obscenities in the english language for how I felt in the car. My car wasn't even a month old!!!

but it's fixed as of this morning, and good as new. didn't cost me a dime.

but if you're looking to stop in cities/towns the whole way to Seattle, there's a pretty sparse area between San Francisco and Portland where you'd have to be stopping in much, much smaller towns. and depending on whether you drive 101 or I-5 it pretty drastically changes the scenery / length of the drive (101 is much, much nicer to drive, but I-5 is considerably faster).

good drive, though, if you're thinking of doing it. I know the the drive between San Francisco and Portland (101 and I-5) quite well if you want any tips.

if you plan the trip right, you can chop it up with some pretty decent little stays along the way -- Mendocino County, coastal towns up along 101, then there's Eugene, OR on the 5, too, before Portland.

if you just drive and pick a spot, though, yeah -- you'll draw stares in the gas stations and shit and you have to be careful not to end up in the methed out crime hotels.

scenery is nice the whole way, it's really just some of the people that give you pause lol

We were trying to go through Redwood National Forest and there happened to be a forest fire blocking the highway we had intended to use.

Somehow we ended up on a gravel road for like 7 hours. The first hour or so we apparently went the wrong way, and the road "ended" with being covered by these ratty old caravan/camper trailers. Looked like it was right out of Snatch. We flipped a bitch and kicked up gravel trying to get out of there as fast as possible.

Found some pretty amazing nuggets in Arcata, though. And that was in like 2002.

i still blame hip-hop.

my dad was living in the Santa Cruz mountains once when rain knocked out the major highway, and he had to make it to work, so he ended up having to use this weird side road, and after a few days, no shit, some dudes came out on the road, stopped him with a gun in hand, and told him he should find a different road to use

and I knew some kids in Arcata that got chased off river spots by crazy rednecks, too

now it can be dicey going out because of all the weed growing. like you might have hit some weird hippie commune, or you might have hit some weird pseudo-survivalists who might have shot first, asked questions later to protect their stash. that whole region is pretty nuts.

but yeah, Arcata is lovely, always worth a stop (Eureka is a methed out shit hole) and the redwoods up there just can't be beat.

___________

HOPE!

Between a road trip down the east coast and a cross country road trip

Me and my brother drove to ATL with no issues
We drove to Texas, never again

He drove from Philly to Chicago by himself and said that was worse than driving to ATL

First time was pretty fun w/ 4 of us in a Grand Cherokee. Weird wobble from time to time driving w/ the U-Haul trailer on the back. My buddy also caused us to run of out gas in the middle of BFMontana, in the middle of the night, in freezing temps, waiting at a mom & pop gas station that was closed on a Friday night & wouldn't open back up until Monday. Luckily a stranger came along & helped us out. Got back on the road & made a detour to see Mt. Rushmore before visting a buddy in Madison for break.

2nd time was 3 of us in an Audi 8 & boy did that suck

Never again (c)Kam

but between the discount and the $25 first time use credit, we got a decent hotel for 20 bucks. downside was that you have to spend at least 25 for the referral credit.

the other nights we used booking.com's app, or just drove up to a hotel.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

So if you got $0.99 and 30 mins, it'd be worth your time.

It's called "The Lotto Lothario"

It's a hilarious* quick read about a guy who's fresh off a breakup with his girlfriend, gets drunk, plays the lottery, and then fantasizes how he'll get back at her.

Check it out and honestly tell me what you think. And if you got a minute a review on Amazon would be appreciated

And it's COMPLETELY BASKETBALL AGENDA FREE.

Thanks
