"MLB Talk 4.8: Josh Hamilton on the cross"

"Where did people get on Jesus the most? In his hometown. It's one of those things, where baseball-wise, this is my hometown. They got after it...once the alcohol started flowing good. It hurts a little more knowing that people would turn that quickly. But it tells you a lot." © Jesus Hamilton

was he expecting palms laid in the batter's box? Hamilton was invisible during the final stretch last season, told Rangers fans they're "spoiled" and need to show up for 30 more years before they can be considered a baseball town, then signed with a rival. dude, you can't go three years without hitting the bottle, so yeah -- you're going to be called a crackhead at Texas games.

----

I was going to detail the futility of Houston's AAAA offense, but then I actually looked up the stats. and saw Pittsburgh's team numbers:

.119 BA / 8 R / 5 extra base hits / .347 OPS

I know it's six games, but that's amazing. Astros are running away with the K-BB award, though, at a sparkling 74-9.

---

on the flip side, did every other ace get the shit beat out of him yesterday? Matt Cain gave up 9 runs to the Cardinals, tying the worst start of his career (coincidentally, five years ago against St. Louis). Strasburg was hit up for 6 runs, also tying his worst start ever. Dickey (8 ER), Price (8 ER), Hamels (8 ER)...it was brutal.

I guess it's more relative than anything. I think he's going to be a lot closer to Josh Reddick production than top 10 player in the game production, and the perception/ expectation that comes with his contract is going to make him look sorry. 175 ks and a sub .325 obp wouldn't surprise me at all.

It's encouraging, even though it's the Royals and Mariners.

Keppinger is batting under .200, but Morel would be batting .190 if he started. Hopefully De Aza and Viciedo continue to grow this year.

Not worried about Toronto or the Yanks. Baltimore will fold and the Sox and Rays will battle it out for the division.

Didn't take long to win back the fans. A little hustle, little effort, some likable players and we will be back.

The owners? They lost us and will never be liked again, but at least I can watch the games.

Actually felt sympathy for Lackey - that is a major turnaround.

things I've seen in sports

dude took the TEXAS RANGERS to 2 WS

and ya'll booing him

in a contract year

I would've bounced too

they should have been naming streets after him

presenting him with keys to the city

statewide Josh Hamilton day

booing him with the LAA is expected

but going after his wife and kids (from what I heard)

ehh, I don't get the outrage

And it's a windy one. It's blowing out at least, hopefully we can finally get our offense rolling.

Not sure who got a more hostile reception before the game, Braun or Marmol.

the right side of the infield is 'tearing the cover off the ball' as people are fond of saying. 2 HRs each, combined 16 RBI's. 'Schmidt already has 9 K's tho (lol). great opening to the year so far.

i chuckled at your Hamilton dialogue. bizarre comparison.

The worst strike call I've ever seen, Naked Gun-esque. Maddon pretty much summed it up after the game when he said 'that call cannot happen in a Major League Baseball game.' Still have no idea how the ump was fooled into that call.

Pierzynski's weird tailing backhand is the reason we're acting like this is some historically bad call. I don't think it would necessarily be the worst ball/strike call in any given game.

The announced 34k attended, but it looked a lot closer to 25k. They (Marlins management) kicked out 5 guys for wearing "protest" tshirts, then tried to say that they were removed for failure to show ID to police officers, which the officers are saying isn't true. In the bottom of the 8th, I think, some guy on the third base line tried to get a "Lets go Marlins" chant started (you could hear plainly on TV because that place is an echo chamber, like Sunlife with a bit of roof) and, after getting a few participants going, the cameras then showed a steward asking the man to sit down. Greg Dobbs is their cleanup hitter and starting firstbaseman. There may be no point in Stanton even taking a bat to the plate with him this year.

...on an average Tuesday this year? I'm catching the Nats @ Marlins on Tuesday, excited to see the new stadium (though I'm not expecting much from the team).

If that opening is an indication, and the offense as anemic as they were last night, and the bullshit from that front office continues, they will not crack 20k on average this year unless Lloria hacks prices or something, which won't happen.

He could be Roger Clemens, he could be Mark Pryor, or he could be something in between. Regardless, as long as he strikes guys out with pitches like this ( http://gamereax.com/jedd-gyorko-flailing-at-matt-harvey-slider/ ) I'll enjoy watching him every chance I get.

Through seven games, they're batting .126 as a team.

How many other clubs since 1900 have had a team average that low through their first seven games? Not a one. Not in the dead-ball era. Not in the live-ball era. Not in the Bob Gibson 1.12 ERA era. Or any other era.

The previous low: .144, by Whitey Alperman's 1907 Brooklyn Dodgers

I don't know who wrote that up, but it's amazing

@ the M's game last night

Made the Felix loss a lot more tolerable

The Shermanator's first pitch was better than anything our 4th & 5th starters have thrown this year

E.T. was torn between rootin for the Rangers or M's but loves him some Lance Berkman

Kam was a true fan & a top-notch trash talker along w/ the other two
