But taking a 5 second .gif with absolutely zero knowledge of context is the equivalent of taking a one line quote from an interview and trying to apply judgement. It's sensationalist nonsense...and sadly, we see it all too often.

the russell's, the rodman's, the elite rebounders can all calculate who's shooting, where the ball is coming off the rim, who's around, etc.

so for the leagues leading rebounder, with blake griffin and steve blake under the hoop, he HAS to understand he has to crash. backing deandre jordan up does nothing when blake's left alone under the hoop w/ a guard.

In the scope of a split- second, on a 15 foot jumper, you want a player to calculate trajectory while locating his own man while also seeing (on the opposite side of the shot) that your teammate is in a unfavorable matchup and then leave your own responsibility who is also a very good offensive rebounder. Again, all this in a split-second.

having the ability to deduce multiple factors in an instant.

hence the "game slowing down"

or in bird/magic/lebron "taking a picture and knowing where everyone is on the floor."

and I've shit on dwight on numerous occasions and don't fool w/ him, but this ain't that.

To, on a 15 foot jumper, in a SPLIT-SECOND, while in help position:

A) Look over his shoulder, away from the ball, to locate his own man
B) Box out in anticipation of a very good offensive rebounder potentially crashing the boards
C) Locate the ball
D) Deduce trajectory
E) Move over to the opposite side of the rim on an AIR BALL in order to help out a mismatch on the weak-side boards

Again, this is in a split-second on a shot from mid-range that doesn't even hit rim. By the time he located DeAndre and relocated the ball, it was already over the rim. He can't just suddenly fly over to the ball in a millisecond.

To take a 5 second .gif and make an assumption about a player is about as asinine as it gets, especially considering that player is a 4x rebounding champion and soon to be 5x, with the latter coming in a season where he had back surgery and then a torn labrum.

His responsibility there was DeAndre and he can't predict that Caron is going to airball that. If anyone is at fault there, it's Kobe who had decided to jump on his close out of Caron resulting in a fly by which led to Pau having to help over and thus Steve has to rotate down from the weak-side resulting in that mismatch on the boards.

When the ball goes up, Dwight looks over his left shoulder to locate Deandre, gets in his box out position, and when he looks back, the ball is sailing over the rim at which point it's too late.

By the time Dwight located his man and then located the ball, it was already over the rim. Unless he has the quickest calulations + reactions of any player ever, he isn't getting to that airball.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

He was in position but instead of closing out on the ground, he jumped and flew by which started the chain reaction (w Pau having to help) which led to Steve having to box out Griffin.

That doesn't happen if Dwight routinely gives a poor effort on the defensive glass.

If anyone in Lakerland deserves a finger pointed at them, it's the front office. Everyone acts like it's some big mystery. They hired the wrong coach. Twice. If they had hired Rick Adleman 2 years ago than they'd have home court advantage heading into the playoffs right now.

I still say Mike Brown wasn't the issue.....Everybody on that squad was shooting over 50 percent and playing well except one person (Nash)...They just needed more time to get their timing together...

He got the hook much too soon...And now the Lakers are playing for it...

when there were better options out there. Like Rick Adleman. He's easily a top 10 coach in the league and would have been the prefect choice to take over for Phil.
