- Princeton offense is engineered to prevent ball stopping
ball hoggery and create space so that two 7-footers can
co-exist

- Brown's defensive rotations are better than Pringles', who

Pau is the only guy I see as a strong player for the Princeton offense. It does not suit Kobe's game at all, is not ideal for Nash's and Howard would be shooting foul shots all night. No one wants that. We already saw it flop, come on, and that is not a "Mike Brown scheme" lol. They ran that in Cleveland? Hell no. That is an Eddie Jordan thing and he is still hanging around collecting a check for whatever reason.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Sorry, I missed that

SPM's link shows that Kobe actually AGREED with the system

and it s a beautiful train wreck.

i mean when did Steve Nash ever get injurys again?

same with Metta world peace and Gasol?

Dwight needed to sit out a month for real.

its so badd there that Kobe is showing Shaq love, now you know it truly rains in Southern california when that has come to pass.

and when Kobe goes away, them Lakers are going to be having Ping Pong Partys yearly.

Clippers run LA and Staples for years to come. who would have thought?

Pringles is a bad coach.....I can be on your side, if you say they should have never hired Pringles....but Brown had to go....black or green, he was the wrong coach for the team. Nothing he did previously, qualified him for the job.

Laker fans universally PANNED the Postrophe pick for coach.
And no Laker fan ever said that Postrophe was the SPF. I certainly didn't (I'm not a Laker fan, for the record)

O_E was trying to say Laker fans cheered the end of Mike Brown (mostly true), in favor of the crowning of Postrophe (FALSE)

Most have been shifting blame to Kobe, to Dwight, to whichever player is screwing up on any particular night, as well as Postrophe where appropriate.

The team is old, stubborn (Kobe), injured (Dunce), ill-fit for each other, and the coach is like one of the worst you can put on a team like that. Even his Knicks seemed more appropriate.

but yes... CLEVELAND IS RESPONSIBLE

LeBronies

the lakers are old, slow, injured and playing in a tough conference. they lost with a defensive-minded coach and with an offensive-minded coach. but since it's easier to say "dramtrani bad ,doesnt want to teech defenze ot laker's!!!" than look at the actual numbers, the team's failure to meet expectations falls on the coach.

it's easy to see what went wrong:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/LAL/2013.html

they're 8th in the NBA in offense. that's despite being below average at 3PT accuracy and turnovers, and being the worst in the league in FT%. but anyway, their offense is pretty much okay.

the problem is the defense. they rebound well and keep opponents off the line, but allow FGs at an average rate and are terrible at creating turnovers. the guys who create turnovers are athletic perimeter defenders like:

Chris Paul-LAC 2.4
Mike Conley-MEM 2.3
Monta Ellis-MIL 2.0
Kemba Walker-CHA 2.0
Dwyane Wade-MIA 1.9
James Harden-HOU 1.9
Paul George-IND 1.8
Russell Westbrook-OKC 1.8
LeBron James-MIA 1.7
Jeremy Lin-HOU 1.7
Andre Iguodala-DEN 1.7
Thaddeus Young-PHI 1.7
Metta World Peace-LAL 1.7
Jason Kidd-NYK 1.7
Jrue Holiday-PHI 1.6
Brandon Jennings-MIL 1.6
Mario Chalmers-MIA 1.6
Goran Dragic-PHO 1.6
Stephen Curry-GSW 1.6
Jeff Teague-ATL

outside of kidd, that's basically a list of the exact opposites of kobe, blake, meeks and nash. they simply don't have the speed or athleticism to pressure ball-handlers, get into passing lanes or close out on shooters. plus pau is no longer able to check PFs, especially not mobile ones like melo, bron or durant.

I would certainly hope everyone knows that the problems with the Lakers go well beyond anything having to do with D'Antoni. However, if they manage to miss the play-offs, he's getting fired. They make the play-offs and get absolutely embarrassed, he's getting fired. Deserving's got nothing to do with it.

need a few journeymen from the collection of jarett, mo willz, tony allen, dorell, martell, toney, budinger to flesh out the backcourt/SF and add shooting. then sign someone like millsap or josh smith who can play an athletic stretch four.

i'm not convinced any team with kobe/nash at the guard spots can ever be good defensively. it's more about being mediocre on defense and great on the other side of the ball until kobe retires.

thread lol. But outside of no one acknowledging the injury impact of this team, looking back at Brown and D'Antoni as coaches, I can't honestly say either can be the primary "blame" for this team struggling. The team is old. Pau and D12 don't fit together in today's league. Nash can't defend. Pau could never really defend. Kobe's obviously not the defender he was 6 years ago. But some of the dumb shit he does defensively isn't age related. The losing your man ball watching shit is asinine. He's always done it. But he was good enough to either recover defensively or compensate for it on the other end.

I still question both of the coaches ability to manage minutes adequately and still think both coaches are still question marks when it comes to Defense (MDA) and Offense (MB). But ultimately, injuries cloud an completely objective evaluation of this team. I don't think a healthy Laker squad wins the title by any stretch of the imagination. But I don't think it's out of the question to believe the team is at worst a 5th seed in the West. Probably 3rd or 4th.

than just MDA's coaching, Brown's coaching (which I now accept), or the Kobe/Dwight relationship. I think the amount of injuries this team has suffered distort a real evaluation of how good this team is. I don't think they're a championship caliber team healthy. But they're not struggling to make the playoffs either. I think they'll give MDA another year to implement his system (which he'll have to adjust if he wants to stay in LA) and see what happens. Hell, the offense they're running the best right now is basically Tri "light" with a heavy dose of Horns which EVERYONE runs in the league now. What MDA is pretty decent at though is drawing up out of bounds plays. Decent as in better than Phil who never seemed to give a fuck about them.

That's funny cause he was horrible with that in ny. Woody came and they immediately started executing better in those situations.

the knicks were ranked 5th in defense for most of last season - they're 17th this season. the phoenix teams were never worse than mediocre on defense either, idiots just get caught up the pure number of points surrendered because of the pace.

yes, d'antoni would rather put offensive-oriented players on the floor. some coaches prefer defensive players out there. either way is fine. the fact that d'antoni gets vilified for choosing the former is purely macho jock garbage, as if being tough defensively is morally superior.

on the talent of the team. I don't think he's "clearly" a horrible defensive minded coach. But I'm not willing to call his D coaching "fine".

That said, my overall point is injuries have hurt the ability to give a solid assessment of what the team was capable of this year. Tis what it tis though.

the knicks were the second-best defensive team in the NBA during linsanity because they were playing jeffries, shump, fields and chandler along with him. and d'antoni's phoenix teams were as good (or better) defensively as this year's knicks squad, so all cenario's chirping is bizarre.

coaches get way too much attention, mostly because it's easier to say "THAT MAN OVAR THERE IS VERRY BAD CCOACH AND STUPED AT DEFANCE!!!" than it is to actually figure out what's occurring on the court. in basketball, the most important and impactful role a coach has is assigning minutes. d'antoni is someone who will sacrifice defense in order to get a better offensive player on the floor -- just like thibs or doc will do the opposite.

I don't disagree. But lack of nuance isn't limited to coach evaluation. Especially here lol.

Mike Brown

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
