Knicks Owner James Dolan Fired an Employee Who Didn’t Recognize Him

According to the NY Post, New York Knicks boss James Dolan — an unpopular man in Gotham if there ever was one — canned an MSG security guard who didn’t recognize him as he tried to access his private box. Dolan then reportedly had a change of heart, and gave the poor woman her job back: “Madison Square Garden boss James Dolan was so furious with a security guard who didn’t recognize him outside the swanky Delta Sky 360 Club that he fired her right on the spot, sources said. But the hothead exec had a change of heart overnight — and the guard was back at her post the very next day, sources said. Dolan, 57, was walking into the exclusive club during Sunday’s Knick game against the Boston Celtics when security guard Fiordaliza Hernandez asked him for his ID — which he never wears, sources said. Instead of laughing it off, Dolan snapped, ‘Do you know who I am?’ Then Dolan demanded, ‘How long have you worked here?’ Three years, the guard said. ‘I’m your boss! I pay your salary!’ Dolan shot back. But rules are rules — and Dolan didn’t show his ID, so Hernandez refused to let him in, sources said. That’s when Dolan became so angry he yelled: ‘Give me your ID! You’re fired!’ The stunned guard was sent home immediately. ‘I have to get new security in this building! I have idiots working here!’ Dolan ranted, sources said. But the MSG honcho quickly reconsidered his decision, and last night, Hernandez was back on the job at a different post as the Rangers played the Winnipeg Jets.”

I mean after that Zeke sexual harassment case where Dolan had to pay out millions you would think Dolan might have learnt a lesson about treating other members of staff with some respect.

I don't know the employment laws but is it even possible to fire someone like that? I mean, she was doing her job, asking for ID which is required and which he didn't have (regardless of him being the owner, rules are rules).

Is she back at her job because Dolan was told without doing so it would be another law suit and yet more bad PR.

As a Nets fan (long before the move to Brooklyn), i swear the best recruiting tool we have is Dolan.

It's pretty easy to fool security with a "Do you know who I am?" bit since they probably haven't met the head of the company. So if anything this guy should be applauded for not being dumb.

It's crazy to me how the Steinbrenner boys are like the most sane owners in New York now. Or, rather, of the teams I root for. I'm not a Giants fan, but the Mara's seem pretty tame. But yeah, the Steinbrenner's have remained pretty low key in recent years. When they first took over Hank was trying to be the next George but he seems to have calmed down, or someone told him just shut up and he listened.

I really can't stand Dolan or Woody Johnson, though. Fuck both of those dudes.

than have to deal with a gaggle of LeBronies watching your every move with derision.

Dolan is an assmonger, but hey, a world without "Comic Sans" jokes at every turn from the hobos... looks like freedom.

I'd seen Clef before that album (once with the Fugees, once solo) he'd played a guitar-riff in sync over the DJ drop of 'Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nothin To Fuck With' that would get the crowd going everytime.

Clive Davis must have just brought Clef & his cousins to Carlos, Clef showed him that parlor-trick and *voila*.

Can't believe I never really thought about that scenario before.

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/barclays-cwa-head-to-head-msg-all-star-game-article-1.1305135

Arenas battle to host the 2015 NBA All-Star Game, as ad campaign targets MSG in favor of Barclays
The new ads financed by Communications Workers of America, calls James Dolan, owner of Madison Square Garden, a union buster who 'fires and intimidates' workers at his other company, Cablevision.

An advertising blitz that kicks of Tuesday will urge the NBA to bypass Madison Square Garden for the Barclays Center as the site for the league’s 2015 All-Star Game, the Daily News has learned.
The ads charge that Garden owner James Dolan “shouldn’t be rewarded with the All-Star Game” because he “fires and intimidates” workers at his other company, Cablevision.

The ads — on bus shelters and billboards and online — are being financed by the Communications Workers of America, which represents workers at Cablevision.

RELATED: UNION SAYS CABLEVISION STILL TRYING TO PULL PLUG

“All Star Game at MSG? Fuggedaboutit!! Bring it to Brooklyn!” one of the ads reads.

The Communications Workers of America is promoting website brooklynnotbusters.com to oppose James Dolan and the Madison Square Garden in hosting the 2015 NBA All-Star Game.

Another says, “Tell the NBA: Don’t Reward Union-Buster James Dolan With the All-Star Game.” It promotes a website, brooklynnotbusters.com, which has a petition urging the NBA to award the 2015 game to the Barclays Center.

NBA officials said in February that New York would get the 2015 All-Star Game, and both Barclays and the Garden have put in bids.

RELATED: RAISSMAN: EWING MEDIA DARLING ON MSG
The Garden last hosted the NBA’s showcase event in 1998.
The union and Cablevision have clashed repeatedly since the company’s Brooklyn workers voted to unionize last year — most notably when 22 workers charged they were illegally fired for protesting workplace grievances.

The CWA has launched the campaign saying MSG and Cablevision owner James Dolan 'should not be rewarded for being a union buster in this town.'
Although the cable company eventually rehired the workers, the sides are still facing off over a contract and an effort backed by Cablevision to get the union de-certified.

RELATED: POL: MOVE MADISON SQUARE GARDEN TO GIVE PENN STATION ROOM

“You should not be rewarded for being a union buster in this town,” said CWA’s Chris Calabrese. “We’ve put this campaign together because we believe hundreds of New Yorkers feel the same way.”
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, who is running for mayor, has also urged the NBA to choose Barclays over Madison Square Garden.
Garden officials said it’s unfair to link the two issues.
MSG spokeswoman Kimberly Kerns said, “Madison Square Garden has long-standing, productive relationships with more than 25 unions, and expects those relationships to continue. Madison Square Garden and Cablevision are separate companies, and one thing has nothing to do with the other.”

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

no one talks about the Magic the way they talk about the Knicks, but in the course of the last 25 years they have at WORST an equal history to the Knicks

i dont really care about the Knicks, but if i were a fan, the worst part would definitely be the losing. as an outsider i can laugh at their overdone perception

not a big deal man

the fact that the knicks have a reputation of being a storied franchise is irrelevant like i said above. If anything, being that they have MSG and whatever else that makes people consider them storied makes being a fan of them that much better than being a fan of a corny franchise like Orlando.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
