Mon Apr-01-13 06:49 PM by RobOne4

since nobody else wanted to make it. What a performance by Kershaw today. That curve was looking FILTHY!

9 innings pitched, 4 hits, 7 strike outs, 0 earned runs. 1 home run.

November 8th, 2005 The greatest night in the history of GD!

Curve was nasty, took that hack and flattened it dead center...rest was history.

The attempt to steal 3rd was bone-headed but extremely encouraged by Crawford considering there were so many reports that he wouldn't even be available for the opener.

everybody looked like shit at the plate. Dont even know how many guys started off 0-2 with out taking a hack. Not to mention how many strikeouts looking we had. Throw Ryu spotting SF 2 runners a damn inning and Sellers horrible defense. Wow dreadful.

On a 3-2 count, in a 2-1 ball game...a pitcher is going to intentionally hit you...and on your fucking arms? If this dumbass isn't hulking over the plate and not going into pitches, then he doesn't get hit. Dude set the Padres record for hbp's and suddenly it's a fuckin problem. If Grienke wanted to hit him, he puts the ball way more inside. What a fucking piece of shit and it's gonna cost us out #2 for at least 6 weeks.

I was texting out that Quentin shouldn't play a game until Grienke pitches again...that would be fair justice. Glad to see Mattingly say the same thing. What a fucking joke.

tough break, and Quentin went off the handle, but they have a history and Greinke is known to do some shit regardless of game circumstance.

Quentin leans over the plate, Greinke has a big fucking mouth, que sera sera. Mattingly needs to worry about giving his pitchers self-defense classes (if a guy has 40 pounds on you, don't put your shoulder into him) and having Ellis do something besides stand dumbfounded.

I don't get why people feed the need to bitch, moan and overreact to this routine display of idiocy in baseball. Apart from rare instances where someone has his head thrown at, there is generally no LOGICAL reason to charge the mound. Here he was hit, that created a volatile situation, he escalated that by turning toward the mound, Greinke antagonized him a little and he went nuts.

Most brawls are not really game appropriate, they are just a lot more likely to break out in a game that's out of hand.

In either instance, if Greinke doesn't get injured, the same people crying about this would have been entertained by the spectacle. When there is a fight in baseball and no one (important) gets hurt, it's a highlight. When there's a fight and $120 million pitcher gets hurt, it's a controversy. OK, baseball fans, tremendous consistency!

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Based on his comments, yeah. Hes talking about how often hes been hit and hasnt reacted that way before. why that time? Either he thought it was on purpose, or he just hates Greinke and was looking for any reason to fight him........either way, he's a fucking idiot.

there is a silver lining...

I think the team standing up for one another may bond this team in a way that hadn't happened yet...you have a team with chips on their shoulders....you have leaders like Kemp and Hairston who showed they are willing to back up their teammate...

and lets not forgot..

part of the reason for keeping Puig down right now and not trading Ethier was to figure out what would be a need you could get back for Ethier in a trade..

well...now we know what we need...and you could be able to trade Ethier for a front line starting pitcher....and plug Puig into right field..

this may be the turning point for the Dodgers this season.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

In response to Reply # 0

Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio mentioned on Twitter that a Ricky Nolasco trade between the Miami Marlins trade and the Los Angeles Dodgers could occur as early as today.
http://www.fishstripes.com/2013/6/27/4470266/mlb-trade-rumors-2013-miami-marlins

I like this. Only 6m, he is solid and has the incentive of playing in his hometown. We didn't think Cap, Fife, or Magill would get so many starts this season so Nolasco would be a nice addition. Fife has been solid too however. Still need relief pitching.

31. "Dodgers one of the favorites to sign Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez"
In response to Reply # 0

Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. Get used to that name. The 26-year-old Cuban defector will soon cash in on his talents.

Gonzalez, a right-handed starting pitcher, had a showcase in Mexico on June 20, impressed and some think the Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites to land him.

The Dodgers sent three of their top scouts -- including Bob Engle, vice president of international scouting -- to watch his workout. Boston Red Sox's general manager Ben Cherrington was the only GM in attendance -- not an uncommon occurrence when it comes to scouting international prospects. Boston really must like Gonzalez because they also sent eight scouts to the showcase. Other teams likely to be in the Gonzalez running include the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers and others.

Under Major League Baseball's new collective bargaining agreement, the Dodgers have $2.9 million to spend on international free agents this year. Unlike the draft, there are more severe penalties for overages here. However, since Gonzalez is 26 and has played in Cuba's top league for at least three years, he is exempt.

Translation: Gonzalez will go to the highest bidder. After the Dodgers gave Yasiel Puig $42 million for seven years almost a year ago to the day (June 28), there's speculation they could be in on 6-foot-3 Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was declared a free agent on June 22, but the U.S. Treasury Department hasn't granted him the right to negotiate a contract with MLB teams just yet. Once that happens (and it will happen soon), it'll just be a matter of time before Gonzalez is pitching in professional baseball.

Gonzalez's situation mirrors that of current Dodger 26-year-old Hyun-Jin Ryu, except the Major League team that signs him won't have to pay a posting fee. The Dodgers signed Ryu to a six-year, $36 million contract and paid a $23.7 million posting fee to his Korean team.

The history of Cuban-born pitchers in the majors has been less than impressive. Luis Tiant is probably the best of the lot, posting a career 3.30 ERA and 2,416 strikeouts in 19 seasons. Adolfo Luque pitched for 20 years in the majors. More recently, Jose Contreras was signed by the Yankees and won a World Series with the Chicago White Sox in 2005. Aroldis Chapman was signed to a $30.25 million, six-year deal by the Cincinnati Reds in 2010 and is one of the best relievers in the game.

Gonzalez has fastball that sits in the low-90s and routinely touches 94-95 MPH. He also has a changeup, curveball, cut-fastball and the rare forkball. Dodger fans remember a great forkball thrown by Hideo Nomo oh so many years ago.

Many believe Gonzalez is near-MLB ready. He might need a month or so in the minors to get back into the rhythm, but he should pitch in the majors this season. He profiles as a middle-of-the-rotation starter with No.2 upside.

Danny Knobler of CBS Sports wrote on June 26 that Gonzalez could land a contract in the neighborhood of $60 million over five years. I don't see the bidding going that high, but if it does, the Dodgers would have no problem paying that amount -- if they truly want him.

I don't think Gonzalez will land a Puig-esque contract, but a Chapman-esque contract isn't out of the question. An addition like Gonzalez to the Dodgers' farm system would allow them to use a prospect like Zach Lee in a trade more comfortably than they would if they didn't have Gonzalez. Gonzalez would likely be the team's No. 1 prospect without even throwing a pitch (ala Ryu with Baseball America's preseason rankings).

The Dodgers landed Puig and were in on Jorge Soler who eventually signed with the Cubs. The Dodgers, surprisingly, don't have a rich history when it comes to Cuban players, so pairing Gonzalez with a fellow countryman could have its benefits.

If the Dodgers can sign Gonzalez, they'll have made up for a lackluster draft (although, Chris Anderson's debut was something else). And because they aren't rumored to be in on many of the top international free agents (who fall into the spending limit), landing Gonzalez would be an even bigger deal than it appears on the surface.

Forget Miami Marlins' righty Ricky Nolasco, to whom the Dodgers are unfortunately connected, Gonzalez would be a better investment for the future and quite possibly for the remainder of the 2013 season.

My prediction: The Dodgers edge out the Red Sox, Cubs and Rangers and ink Gonzalez to a five-year, $40 million deal, because why the hell not?

Dodgers, Cubs Closing In On Marmol Trade
By Steve Adams
6:54pm: If the Dodgers get Marmol, the Cubs would pay most, if not all, of the $5MM owed to him tweets Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. The Cubs might also get a player recently removed from the Dodgers' roster. Gurnick doesn't specify, but the recently DFA'd Matt Guerrier would fit the bill.

4:27pm: The Dodgers are closing in on a trade to acquire Carlos Marmol from the Cubs, according to Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago. Marmol was designated for assignment by the Cubs last week.

There are some hurdles left, as the Dodgers are on Marmol's limited no-trade list, and he's owed about $5MM for the rest of the season. The Dodgers are expected to absorb some of the salary and it's unclear which player or players might be heading to Chicago, according to Levine.

Marmol has a 3.50 ERA with a healthy 11.7 K/9 in 542 1/3 career innings, but he's also averaged 6.1 walks per nine innings pitched. Those command problems have worsened over the past two seasons, and his strikeout rate has dropped in 2013. He is in the final season of a three-year, $21MM extension he signed in early 2011.

When he was in his third AB yesterday and didn't swing at 2 nasty curves away by Cecil, that was what told me he was seeing the ball extremely well. That continued to his final AB and all of today.

Great work to tie the game and Puig has responded well to his slump.

Mattingly has been mixing and matching the 8th since Jansen took over closer duties...Wilson could alleviate all of that which not only shortens the game an inning but you then have the rest of the pen at your disposal for situational, earlier in the game.

Had my friend's grandparents/parents MVP pass so we were allowed to sit anywhere except dodger dugout club.

Another series win vs another very good team....Hellickson has been struggling with his sinker and left a lot of stuff up today, we made him pay for the mistakes, as we have been doing consistently for the past 6 weeks.

CK was CK....I don't know wtf Dee was doing out there. Not sure if it was worse than Puig's CF on Friday but cotdamn.

the field..

but...

how ironic is it that this team is playing like this...with the style..the "swag" per se...the comeback fight in them.... and all this of this energy....... after Earvin Johnson Jr. becomes a part of the organization...

this is like baseball showtime style really...

it's been amazing..

I got buddies who generally don't watch a lot of baseball outside the playoffs... who are texting me now late after the Dodgers make another comeback...

good times in LA...

Obviously Earvin Jr was there when this team was 10 games under, lacking any kind of attitude or swag. All that changed when Yasiel and Hanley got into the lineup.

There's no reason to start off a series with a pitcher on 3 days rest, especially when you have another ace.
