"ESPN 30 For 30: Survive And Advance"

Anybody checking it out?

Seeing this reminded me/made me aware of a few things:
- Jimmy V was a better Xs and Os coach than I realized...as a kid, I honestly just thought they got lucky

- That Houston Cougars team just may have been the most exciting team ever

- This documentary really illustrated how GREAT Ralph Sampson was

years back w/Guy Lewis

and

he talked abt there was this one time when that Phi Slamma Jamma squad got together for a reunion and he said he was talking w/Clyde Drexler and Drexler said to him can I tell you something I've never told anyone?..and coach Guy Lewis replied what is it?

He said Clyde confessed to him that everyday before practice he and Michael Young would play 1-on-1....and Dretxler said he NEVER ONCE beat Young in a game of 1-on-1. Lewis said he was surprised considering Clyde, who he said seemed a little embarrassed to make this admission, went on to become one of the 50 greatest players of all time, and Young didn't make it to the next level (at least not for any duration)

from phi slamma jamma ..

did some google searching and I see that nobody really knows what happened to dude after the 90's...he played pro ball in south America as well as the Phillipeans..

dude quit Houston's team if I'm not mistaken because of playing time....and then like never heard of dude again..

damn that cat had dunks...

saw a post in ask yahoo where someone said they called the only person with the last name Anders listed in Berniece Louisiana and it was his grandmother and she hadn't heard from him in years, and that was in 2002...

It basically said Valvano had players grades changed, entrance requirements were lowered for certain athletes, Chris Washburn got in NCState with like a combined 500 SAT score, Players were selling tickets, Players flunked drug tests, sold their gear, some more shit bout him in there and how he ran the program, how the players interacted with one another etc. All this was with his knowledge too the book claimed. It was given to me by my uncle back in the day and i read it in like 2 days. I was fucking trippin off that shit.

"made me aware of a few things"

of course we all know the shot, airball, put back, Jimmy V running around the court

but I wasn't aware of the entire story of that team

Disney doesn't even write stories this unbelievable

needing to win the ACC tourney to get into the NCAA tourney

all of the last second game winning games in that tourney

beating the UNC MJ/Perkins defending national chip squad

and then all of the last second game winning games in the tourney

just to get to the chip game

and yeah, Ralph Sampson was looking alot like Wilt

just too big and athletic for anybody to stop

does Jimmy V have a psych background

what really caught me

was him having his team cut down the nets in practice

the visualization

and then Whit realizing he was doing what coach had prepared him for

really incredible story

I doubt it will ever be duplicated

I agree w/everything you said below, including and especially the part abt Jimmy V being damn near a psychic lol...

That was the 1st and true "cinderella" story for me in college hoops, definitely more so than Villanova beating G'Town.

about half way between the top of the key and the free throw line

kind of reminds me of the debate on here against the mid range J

because that shit looked to be about a mid range J, IMO

and then there was another line closer to half court

was that the NBA line back in the day

that shit looked to be +30 feet

I always hated those gyms with 3-4 different sets on line on them
