Kobe defended better. like WAAAAAAAAY better. like even at this stage of his career where he's ball watching ALOT. He is still better defensively than Bird ever was. Bird shot better, passed better and rebounded more as a 6'9" forward in an era where more total shots went up and less shots from behind the arc were taken.

the difference in average team rebounds is 216, which is only 2.6 more per TEAM per game, which is pretty negligible when spread out across a team's rotation. Bird was just a better rebounder.

Bird just by position and size should have been a better rebounder. Add to the fact that those stats show that there were more rebounds to be had, I'm not sure where there is a disagreement here. What Bird extremely extraordinary for his position was shoot and pass. He rebounded extremely well. But it's not something that should be shocking considering his position and era. That was my only point.
