I know its been a sec fellas but I'm still here churning out ideas. Ive been trying to balance not getting overzealous with keeping momentum on this project and gathering everyones ideas. I've been pleasantly overwhelmed by the responses. I knew we had something special, but didn't realize so many people felt that passionate about it. It's great to see and I hope it can be the start of something really dope. I was listening to the BS report just thinking about how lucky that bastard bill Simmons is. He gets to roll out of bed every morning and breathe hoops and pop culture. Even if I'm not the one who makes it off this--we have enough talent that I think somebody will if we play this right.
So here's where we're at.
*Unless someone has a better idea, I want to try to have a hard launch around the end of March -I'm off for about 2 weeks around then -March madness/World baseball Classic in full swing
*I think we can do a soft launch before by posting up some of our articles/starting to experiment with podcast combos. - so by hard launch time we maybe build some buzz out on the internets and -some chemistry amongst ourselves
* Some themes that I think tie us together and why were different -First and foremost our love and passion for sports. All of us our passionate about sports. My opening piece is going to be about my first memory as a sports fan and the moment that got me to be a sports fan. -Agendas. I think its a good idea to figure out a way to bring agendas into this site. Its what keeps the conversations moving and the content dynamic. I have a couple ideas besides blog posts like a Agenda/Stock marjet draft/game. -lots of specialists. We have lots of specialists on players, teams, sports, and regions-and I think thats a good thing. We're not needing any one person to carry the load. At the same time unlike the sb nation blogs, I'd expect us to be more connected and has some semblance of us being from the same family. - diversity of ideas and ppl. We got a wide range of opinions on various topics. We should embrace it. Our followers should know bomb hates kobe but lbsfinest will defend him. In terms of diversity we got a lot of non white folks on the staff. Sorry to all the white bols, there's a lot of guys like you out there--not as many of us non whites who are young, cool, passionate about sports, and not hipsters or complete geeks. Even a site like the classical--I love their content but their staff is like all the same type of guys.
Name: I really wanna go with something around base Base.com is taken obviously But I like the idea of base being a sports thing--even though we're not baseball heavy. Okay sports is also our home base. Base can also refer to foundation, legs, types of defense, etc. Also I know vex will love this but the symbols that make up the base are the square and triangle. There's some great symbolic meaning behind both.
Square; stable, structure, foundation, community, balance, integrity. 4 elements, 4 seasons..I can keep going
Triangle: obviously the holy trinity but also male energy or ascension.
Im sure you guys can come up with a lot more shit to tie to Base.Only other name I really liked was triple threat . All the agenda warz and mad making names makes us to kitschy and I don't want us to be mad all the time. We can still do all that mad making shit in our work.
*Website Design: cold truth has volunteered to handle the design and hosting. 2 other people also volunteered but want to remain anonymous for now.ultimately I want us to be known more as a website and not a blog for many of the same reasons as the classical folks.

Other random tidbits: I've been reading 2 books, one on design thinking that's been helping me organize my thoughts and steps and another book called the power of habit that's given me some food for thought around marketing and launching the site. The Power of Habit is one of the Malcolm Gladwelly self help books. I really enjoyed it though. Gave me some great insight for my personal and professional life
I want reading our site to become habit readers to check (why i asked that question about what sites people read) so I think it will be good to start figuring out schedules for things like our podcasts and certain articles that always come out at a certain day/time. We can fill in with other good content
Along those lines I think its important we think about developing a mobile app for the site. Nobody is really doing this well yet in the sports world and given my experiences commuting on NYC trains I think this is important. We can discuss what the app should have. Anybody here develop apps or know somebody that does? I'm guessing we would want iOS and android--and yes I know how expensive those things can get.
So here are some ideas for some specific assignments/tasks for us to work on
Podcast Daily: Basketball--I dont think anyone can really commit to doing this every night, but can we get a rotation? If so, whose interested? The Basketball Jones guys do a good job with their daily NBA podcast M-F. Yall should Listen here: http://blogs.thescore.com/tbj/ Its 45 min - an hour each day. The question is when would this show be recorded? Were East Coast heavy so either West Coast guys do it, or we start recording at like 10-11 PM EST when games are still in progress. Would love to hear ideas.
3X a week: I think this could be our bigger show--longer, more topics--current sports events--but also bigger sports debates like Basa's athleticism/ceiling post. Just interesting sports topics. Again it'd be nice if we could get several ppl to share the duty.
Other: Any other ideas?
Weekly features: Nightly Boxscores/Sporting Event of the Night/Gambling line of the night: Shawn (im definitely down here--anyone else wanna pitch in)
White Thursday: Cantball, Kosher Sam, Marauder and other contributors.
Asiatic Warrior Watch: Maybe a coach watch during basketball season, player/coach watch during baseball, and qb watch during foorball--anyone down? Truth hasnt signed up--so any other folks interested in these?
College basketball Draft Stock/Mock Draft Board: Longo said he'd love to do this
Analytics/Stats for Dummies aka the Guinness book of Dumb Records: Statistics professor TJT would do great here and I think he volunteered. I think itd be great to start with a primer then do some regular articles on analytics. Hopefully we can send a few folks to the MIT/Sloan analytics conference.
Reader of the Week: I think it'd be great to profile some of our readers especially around their love/passion for sports and how they developed. I think through our networks we probably have access to some interesting people who are sports fans: college professors, doctors, lawyers, activists, teachers. Great way for us to connect with our readers/family and friends while sharing our stories about the love of sports.
Athlete/Sports figure profile interviews: Again through our networks I think we can profile some interesting people (for example I have access to Sunil Gulati). They dont have to be top flight athletes or sports figures, but guys who played college ball or overseas. People who coach at different levels of the game. If we can find young hs athletes on social media and get through all their handlers--theyd be great too. Does anyone read Scott Raab profiles in Esquire? Id like to model them after that so we arent just asking the same ol "where do you wanna go to college questions", but really finding out a slice of what makes people tick...what their passionate about. if we do a good job here eventually it may lead to some bigger interviews and people wanting to be profiled by us.
A weekly or every 2 week O_E article: musings on race, D'antoni, Kobe, whatever...make it happen. A weekly Bomb rant
Wonder if vex will let us use his boxing stuff.
I know I'm missing a lot based on people's input but this is already getting long so lets continue discussing below
Would love to build a section of our nicknames and slang. I think we got a new one for Russy today with Blaxpoitation Film Informant.
I said this earlier but I really like what The Classical does A lot of these articles in their why we watch series are good: http://theclassical.org/tags/why-we-watch
Here is a list of all their recent articles. See their diversity: http://theclassical.org/articles
