"Four Alabama Football Players Arrested on Robbery Charges"

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/eye-on-college-football/21691779/report-four-alabama-football-players-arrested

Roll Tide.

Four Alabama football players were arrested Monday on charges of second degree robbery.

According to the website of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office, cornerback Eddie Williams, defensive lineman Dennis Pettway, linebacker Tyler Hayes and running back Brent Calloway were booked on charges of second degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Calloway, 20, was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card. Tyler Hayes, 18, and D.J. Pettway, 20, were charged with second-degree robbery, while Williams, 20, was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and second-degree robbery.

According to arrest warrants obatined by the Tuscaloosa News, Williams, Hayes and Pettway were arrested for allegedly assaulting two fellow students in attempted robberies, knocking one of them unconscious. In the first incident, police say Williams and Hayes admitted to punching the student in the head and face, then kicking him in the ribs and back, reportedly leaving the victim with cuts, a mild concussion and severe swelling. They allegedly took the victim's backpack, which contained an Apple laptop computer.

In the second incident, police say Williams admitted to punching another student in the head and face and stealing the victim's wallet while Hayes and Pettway watched. Williams later used the victim's student identification to buy snacks from a vending machine in a dorm room.

Jail records show the players were arrested around midnight and released between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. Williams was released on $65,000 bond. Hayes and Pettway were released on $60,000 bond. Calloway was released on $5,000 bond.

All four players were backups for the Tide during their BCS National Championship run in 2012. There has been no official statement from the university, the athletic department or coach Nick Saban at this time. All four players remain listed on the current roster at Alabama's official website.

This is the second arrest this week for Eddie Williams. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office records indicated the defensive back was charged Sunday for carrying a gun without a license.

Calloway, a former five-star recruit, also has a previous arrest since arriving on campus, for misdemeanor marijuana possession in October 2011. Discipline in that case was handled internally.

I mean I get how college athletes get in trouble with the law, they are college kids and college kids do stupid shit.

Get drunk, get into fights, drunk drive, not saying one should do it, but I did all that in college too.

But to just rob some kid and beat him as players for the #1 team in the country? There's literally no reason or excuse for that.

recruiting top players leads to recruiting players who feel they are entitled

this is turning into an Alabama pile-on, and Saban has already suspended the players

since my school had Riley Washington shooting up a convenience store, LP, and Thunder Collins in jail for murder

I ain't saying shit

when you are on top

FSU, Miami, Ohio State, Nebraska, USC, Alabama, etc...

It's easy to take shots when you are Washington State, Purdue, Boston College, or Kentucky

The football program has never mattered enough on a national benchmark level for this ever to be an issue.

pathologic criminal behavior isn't really a 'stupidity' issue and not much you can do to prevent it unless you're regularly taking kids with major rap sheets

Suspended Alabama football players banned from campus

Three of the Alabama players arrested Monday in connection with two robberies, where they allegedly assaulted fellow students, have been barred from campus until the school completes its review.

Eddie Williams, Tyler Hayes, and D.J. Pettway, the three players arrested earlier this week on robbery charges, have been barred from campus, the school announced.

Williams and Hayes admitted guilt after allegedly attacking and stealing items from two separate students on campus Monday morning, according to police. All three have been suspended from the team indefinitely. Williams, a defensive back, was also implicated for credit card fraud alongside running back Brent Calloway, who is also suspended from the team but has apparently not been barred from the campus.

The players are suspended from school and will not be allowed on campus until the school completes a judicial review, expected sometime next week. When that happens, their status with the university -- as well as with the football team -- will be determined.

>I guess the running back has some promise...

nah, he just didn't commit a violent crime on a fellow student.
therefore, he's not seen as a physical threat to anyone's safety.
he has bounced around from LB to RB to H-Back back to RB once
we got hit with the injury bug at RB this year.

again, it's likely none of these guys ever see the field
again in a Crimson Tide jersey and the team won't miss a beat
without them.
