"Weekend soccer 2.8.12-2.14.12: lesson learned"

Got sort of lazy/"would we miss it"? last weekend and what happened? Chelsea and Madrid lost, City and Liverpool played one of the best games of the season, and the lights went out at the Cottage.

Great set of games this weekend without having any a-1 matchups, all preamble to the midweek champions league first legs. And today we could see Disney's David Beckham PSG play. Woohoo!

the final could be the highlight of the weekend. Burkina-Ghana was one of the most entertaining games I've seen in a while (OK, mostly because Bance kept missing chances to kill the game, but you gotta love all-out attacking soccer)

For the record, my teams:
MLB: Mets / Soccer: PSG
NCAA BB: Arizona / NCAA FB: Michigan
NBA: Spurs / NFL: Jets

and giving up his monthly wages to charity

we all know why you're not getting paid, David. You wouldn't want the greedy French government taxing you on the entirety of your income (including the endorsements), would you?

Right, you wouldn't, we understand.

So stop it.

But didn't even think about the tax implications on his endorsements. Little bit slimey. There is some loophole supposedly if you "work" in France but live x number of days abroad? Hince why PSG are setting up a ton of players in Russia? I could be misunderstanding that, but couldn't Becks live in Monaco and commute for his bullshit part time job without the tax hit?

I've never looked into it, but I guess I've always assumed there were special rules in place that makes it tougher for people earning their income in France to evade taxes there, because you always hear about foreigners living there (tennis players and formula 1 dudes in particular), not so much French celebrities (who tend to go to Switzerland...or Russia now). Plus, I guess he and the club want to make it look somewhat legit, which means participating in practices, which would be difficult to pull off with a commute from Monaco.

never heard about the Russia thing for PSG players...

one thing I know for sure is that if you earn wages in France, it makes the rest of your income eligible for taxes. Given how much Becks makes from endorsements and his underwear biz and the rates in place now, he would end up losing a gang of money if he did get paid. I'm sure he values the PR action he's getting from signing with the club getting the most hype these days (just as the Qataris value the PR action they're getting from him and the jerseys they'll sell in Asia), but he doesn't value it that much.

hence the 'Becks is for the children' move. Win/win for everybody.

Good effort, just needs 3's and only 3's at this point

Ramsey still Ramsey, he tries but so ... Ramsey

Sagna was a MAN today, maybe he should play center back all the time, played much bigger than he is.

Giroud is really frustrating sometimes, him and Theo should have had at least 2 between em.

Sagna played really big...but I dunno if he can sustain that. Szczeny's saves after the Jenkinson was sent off were outrageous..the point blank header reaction save, man.

Huge 3 points and praying that Wilshere is ok.

the god CR7 let yall see the throne yesterday!

the best field to field dribbler in the game ...so much speed on the break coming from the opposite side of the pitch.

Mikel/moses are back!...time to get our pivot in order: mikel/luiz

just three points behind city, and there are still two trophies up for grabs

I woke up at 8:15, got online, and was already seeing the final score. I had no idea they were playing this early of a game.

Apparently Iniesta gave a masterclass.

and 2 more assists for Thiago.

no Xavi, so he played string-puller and picked Getafe apart. Some brilliant passes.

In response to Reply # 23

but he's such a better forward for the system than anyone else and cesc isn't a bad replacement at attacking midfield at all, so he plays LW regularly.

it's just a shame we're not seeing the full iniesta glory because of it.

also, there was an interesting argument that messi's now playing almost a true attacking mid position this season, dropping extremely deep to get the ball and be a playmaker. not sure how much I buy that, beyond the argument that he and cesc basically swap positions throughout the game. but it's an interesting tactical argument--messi gets so much attention from the CBs and DM, that you move him further back on the pitch to confuse that box strategy. i'll be watching to see if that's the case.

just a typical youth, who just wants to play that's all. I don't think it is a serious expression. he has been mercurial regarding the entire situation.

He's still kind of clumsy with his footing ....but of course everyone talks greatness when a chelsea player scores...shit is sickening at times

like this lampard crap...fucker is terrible in the pivot, but since he puts the ball in the net, no one is allowed to say anything bad about him....

He has been up and down about his return back to the bridge. He requested one more year out on loan.however, ever since we picked up ba, he has stated that he wants to return next season.

ba, lukaku, and unfortunately torres ...is a good force to have next season

and if we can get fellaini, that would give us even more depth at the striker position

piazon will probably remain at valencia for another season.

need some cbs though..terry is done to me, and luiz is better in the pivot(clearly)
