"Garnett to Clippers?"

A Kevin Garnett trade could soon become a reality, according to a new Sporting News report.

The veteran Boston Celtics star has reportedly caught the attention of the Los Angeles Clippers, who are looking for an experienced head to guide them through the playoff jungle. Sean Deveney at Sporting News says the team has approached the Celtics about acquiring the 36-year-old, with Caron Butler and Eric Bledsoe set to go in the other direction. Deveney writes:

“Interest in Garnett is seen as proof the Clippers believe they can be a championship contender in the NBA’s Western Conference.”

As chance would have it, the Clippers will face the Celtics in Boston this weekend, meaning Garnett could face his potential future teammates on Sunday night.

A Kevin Garnett trade would face at least one significant obstacle: The veteran center has a no-trade clause in his contract, and would have to agree to waive it if any deal was to happen.

Acquiring Garnett would be a major boon for the Clippers. The center, who has 18 NBA seasons’ worth of experience to call upon, remains an impressively fit individual. He has started all 46 of Boston’s games this season, averaging 14.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, with 50.5 percent shooting from the field. He was NBA MVP in 2003-04 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2007-08.

Crucially, Garnett also has huge playoff experience. The Clippers were cruelly exposed during last year’s playoffs, with many pundits arguing the San Antonio Spurs took advantage of the Clips’ limited playoff experience.

He could also help rescue the Clippers’ recent form: The team is currently 34-14 in the Western Conference standings, but has dropped five of its last seven games.

However, not everybody is convinced that a Kevin Garnett trade to the Clippers would be sensible. Bleacher Report‘s Michael Lingberg writes:

“ is certainly an intriguing prospect. It would certainly signal the Clippers’ desire to win right now, and Garnett would make them an even more dangerous contender than they already are.

“But would it be a good idea for Los Angeles to trade away Eric Bledsoe who is their only truly promising young player? Would it be smart to trade the future away for a man who might not be a Clipper past next season?

“This wouldn’t make much sense for Boston, either. Bledsoe is a starting-caliber point guard, but would be stuck behind Rajon Rondo next season.”

What would you make of a Kevin Garnett trade from Boston to L.A.? Would both sides really benefit? Read more at http://www.inquisitr.com/507551/kevi...DHRlSV7OWKb.99

It would be horrible for the Clips. The bench misses Bledsoe as much as the starters miss Paul.

11 million a year for a guy who is still a damn good center isn't bad.

The problem is that, as noted, the Clippers need Bledsoe more because of Paul's injury and also because CP3 hasn't re-signed yet. I doubt that they move him; they probably just tried to see if a couple of picks could get KG, which it can't.

If we've learned anything, it's that no NBA trade rumor report can be fully believed. Confirmation or denial, makes no difference IMO.

A lot of these rumors are likely little more than internal discussions.

Others have actually been discussed between teams, and were nothing more than exploratory.

Others are probably made up at the time they're written.

Personally Pierce is the guy they should go after, as far as players on the C's roster, but the price would gut the bench. Why fuck with their current chemistry?

I'm sure the Clippers asked how much it would cost to acquire KG but I don't think they'd be dumb enough to trade Bledsoe for a one year rental.

But no one thinks he'll play past this year. So they'd be renting him for half a season.

I'm not so sure that he's going to give up 20 million dollars and doing what he obviously loves so easily. He's still playing at a high level. I doubt he'd go to LA to be a potential backup to DeAndre Jordan but I wouldn't be so sure that he'd retire.
But the threat of him hanging it up is why the Celtics can't get anything for him and why trading him is a waste. Let him and Paul go for one more run this season and then see where we are in the offseason.

it's not so much that i dont like garnett as a sub who plays liberally (great role for him, actually) but i think that Bledsoe is a lot to give up for a short term rental (one partial season, maybe two). it also makes little sense for boston, unless they want to have bledsoe as a shooting guard.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I would NOT do that trade...at all...I think what the Clips need to do is cover their ass at the PG spot just in case Paul is super gimpy for the playoffs...

I like Bledsoe...But I like him more off the bench (he kills in that regard)...Maybe they should have put their hat in the Calderon deal...

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

“Well Danny made it very obvious since day 1 when he brought me and Ray here to be aligned with paul that he was going to do whatever was best for the organization. He’s made that apparent so I’ve understood that. I bleed green, I die green, that’s what it is, but it is a business though, and when it cross paths, I’ll deal with it. Trades are a part of this league. Every year you are going to hear certain things. If I were ya’ll I wouldn’t read much into it though.”
