"Weekend Soccer 1.25.13-1.31.13: The ball "boy" deserved it"

Lets be honest: Hazard was stupid for doing it, but the shithead ball boy (17) deserved it. If more 17 year olds got kicked for doing stupid, immature shit, the world would be a better place.

FA cup weekend in England, not many romantic ties. Will be rooting for Brighton against Arsenal due to family reasons (brother in law from Brighton). Leeds/Spurs may be interesting just from an old-school perspective.

Weekend Spain/Italy/Germany/France doesn't have much eye-catchers; Athletic vs Atletico?

Midweek brings a round of EPL including hot (?) Arsenal vs hot (?) Liverpool, Everton/West Brom and the battle of the drop, Villa/Newcastle (though neither will likely go down).

Don't look now, but Jozy scored a hattrick last week and, having watched the highlights, it's not really worth celebrating. Horrible defense and virtual tap ins.

ACN is rolling, I guess, not much to report in the way of upsets just yet.

atletic is.

i might say real/getafe is more interesting as getafe beat real earlier and that was really the beginning of the debacle earlier this season. but yeah, pretty dull weekend.

Villa had seemingly shored up the defense, was playing some inspired football, and had won its last two matches by a combined 7-2 scoreline. Then fucking Torres gets up in the 3rd minute, and everything goes to shit.

I mean, they really shouldn't go down, but right now they are playing as badly or worse as any of the other relegation candidates.

You gotta figure Wigan will probably sneak their way out of danger, like they tend to do, and that QPR will probably slowly continue to improve. Villa has work to do....

Started managing Worcester City in the Blue Square North, and after three games I set all my pre-match preparation to defending set pieces. Dunno how much you know about the game, but the assistant coach gives advice about upcoming opponents...we'll be playing some never-heard-of amateur squad in the first round of the FA Cup, and the coach will say, "I think we should focus our match prep on attacking movement, to exploit their defensive vulnerabilities," and I'm like, "Nope! Defending set pieces, thank you!" I fuckin' hate corners...

He scores goals. The diamond/ 4231 maybe styming a lot of strikers that would thrive in a traditional front line approach.
That said, something is still wrong with Liverpool, namely, Gerrard doesn't fit in Rodgers philosophy yet is "tolerated" because he is a legend. They need a more dynamic player there than he is.

Accurate. But also on a side still lacking a lot of talent, he's one of the most purely talented players on the team.

So a talented (if aging) mis-fitting piece is still better than.... whoever else we have.

Gerrard's continued playing time is two things:

1. legacy

2. statement on how much work the roster needs

FOR THIS SYSTEM, he had shunned/wasted an amazing talent in Sahin to accommodate Gerrard and his weird boy Joe Allen. Sahin/Lucas/Suso > Gerrard/Shelvey/Allen. For me.

But fuck liverpool anyway.

they obviously will need to replace him. but it seems like rodgers has tweaked his role a bit, allowing him to create chances without being too far forward, and he's put together a nice string of games lately.

i don't really know much about coutinho, but it will be interesting to see what rodgers has in mind for him eventually.

Santos, dog? This guy is on that Andy Kaufman performance trolling at this pt.

I've conceded that Wenger is not making any Big signings, whatever. But for the love of all that is holy, get some second division backup left back for Gibbs in case he gets hurt. Santos cannot play @ this level or any level.

That second Giroud goal was all class. Lol @ Podolski playing the *whole* game, you know he hogged that ice bath afterwards.

At least Ramsey shows flashes...Santos is absolute hot garbage every second of every minute he's on the pitch.

SMH, Santos just doesn't care. I would send him to Brazil for free at this point. It looks like Wenger is staying put which is disappointing. I wanted Mbiwa and M'Villa to replace Mertesacker and Arteta.

On the bright side, Giroud is starting to figure things out.

They showered the pitch with brilliance today.

the great drogba was dropped from the starting XI, and that had a optimal effect on the team.

Gervinho was excellent, and put on a show with SURPRISING technical ability and pace.

Father time is undefeated. It happens to all the great ones, so more than likely this will be drogba's last AFCON.

Kalou put on a nice run as well.

The elephants!

Who is M. Smith? I have no clue, because he plays in npower League 1 for Oldham Athletic.

But Oldham Athletic must be a League 1 power, right? Probably almost a certainty to go up next season, right?

No. Oldham Athletic are 19th in League 1, only one point off the drop.

M. Smith of League 1 also-ran Oldham Athletic destroyed Liverpool.
