"So can option-offense win championships ?"
Sun Jan-20-13 10:27 PM by select_from_where

Because the elite defenses have been beasting

All this short pass stuff on 1st and 10 has been negated.

Only thing working is the 20+ yard pass game and the run game.

Even the niners had to abandon the quick option game.

What say you?

they are 7th in the postseason, which puts them in the exact same spot as they were in the regular season, 1 spot below the halfway cutoff

415 ypg playoffs vs 350 in the reg season

and all those passes to V davis in the middle of the field was a result of LBs looking in the backfield in zone coverage

the QB opposite side DE mushrushes upfield to spy/contain Kap, leaving a backside gap that the RBs then one-cut and shot through.

Forcing that DE to commit like that made that happen.

Plus that offense leaves about 20 yards of open space behind the LBs.

I'd say it's pretty effective, thus far.

from the title i thought it would be about the 49ers success in the playoffs validating the read option.

somehow, it's trying to spin the opposite story?

can make mediocre ass backs look good. you got frank GORE running off tackle and you automatically freezing the DE? (and the cb is asante)?

c'mon.

*pyern*

you can run the read option 6 or 7 times and give for 3 ypc. and when the DE bites that *one* time, QB keeps and that's 20 yards if he got wheels.

THEN you come right back and the DE is crispy around the edges, so he stays outside and you give underneath of him again.

the QB in a zone read scheme is a blocker because he neuralizes at least one defensive player. (2 if you have to spy a db or olb in addition to the DE like vick in his prime).

so you end up unstacking the box.

and that also should buy you zone coverage from the secondary.

and if your OC is smart and you have the right routes called, you should be able to eat them up.

peace & blessings,

x.

Falcons.

They had it 1/4 right, but they never implemented the passing game off the run action, or varied the runs enough to keep it effective for a whole season.

And, I STILL don't think the real chessmatch of how the read option will be used has even started yet. Deep throws downfield haven't really been brought into play yet, prolly cuz no D coordinator has implemented safety help yet.

Next year should be hella interesting, either way

That it's a more valuable skill set than a post game or perimeter game... or a higher percentage shot than either a three pointer or a close-to-the-basket 2?
