Best of luck to him, he helped make the Pac-12 a more exciting conference, college football will miss him.

(And yes I'm happy he left right before Oregon hops back on UCLA's schedule)

Word on UW Dawg Pound is fans are tired of 7-6 finishes and anything less than 8/9 wins next season should result in him being fired.

yeah, people are sick of 7-6 seasons, but unless someone better comes along (and i can't see that happening) he'll be around UNLESS he totally shits the bed and has a losing record.

i really just getting my troll on, but we've had a few good recruiting class in a row with the incoming class being ranked in the top 15 by most sites...so yes, we could be "back" this coming year or the one after.

In response to Reply # 80

I don't think Sark is the answer at UW but that's just my opinion and I have been wrong before. I think Sark should be able to constantly win 7/8 games with the occasional 9/10 win season but that's his ceiling.

is gonna get us to the title game.

that said, he's getting good recruits and i have faith in his coordinators (more than him). some 10 win seasons shouldn't be out of the question in the near future.

for whatever reason, i actually wouldn't mind Sark moving to another job and Wilcox being the HC. he just seems like he "gets it" more than Sark, but that's just my impression.

This and the Eagles had been rejected by just about every candidate they had interviewed. The Eagles looked like they had no idea what they were doing in their HC search and were down to plan G in terms of candidates. They were desperate for a head coach and save some face.

There were arguments that Foles can run the spread

but, I would think Vick would be able to do more in a Chip Kelly offense

The move makes sense for the rest of our Offensive roster as well

DJack especially

regardless, it will be interesting

NOW LET'S SEE WHAT THEY DO FOR THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BALL!!!

reup or cut ties.

but vick in a spread offense built around mismatches and the ability to RUN the ball. AND with an OC who can make use of the downfield tools?

(sorry. foles can't get the ball deep to desean).

who knows what was discussed behind the scenes, though, about current and future personnel.

but marty's offense was asinine this year.

eagles had 15+ milly in the qb position when they had vick and kolb under contract.

you gonna pay that much to get a vet to come in (1 yr sal + prorated signing bonus).

it ain't that much.

and that way you can be a credible contender WHILE looking for your qb of the future.

and you don't have to do anything dumb to get one of the guys this year who prolly ain't worth a top pick.

peace & blessings,

x.

declined since late 2010. Obviously the Eagles O has/had it's shortcomings but his decision making just seemed to get worse and worse as time progressed. I really hope he can turn it around but you have wonder if he's taken one too many hard hits to be effective.

he got crunched against the skins a couple of seasons back

on a goal line dive to finish a run

missed games with cracked ribs

comes back

and keeps doing the same shit

not Andy's fault

holding the ball

instead of just throwing it away

and getting crunched when the pocket collapses

not Andy's fault

play calling, execution, etc...

Andy's fault

but the terrible decisions Vick made time and time again

he has to own those

Pats showed you can avg 80 snaps a game. I remember hearing a snap that if a team runs 60+ offensive snaps a game, they win 80% percent of the time.

This gimmick-ass bullshit won't work.

ZERO NFL experience, which, unless you're Jimmy Johnson, has never turned out good.

Chip Kelly was close to the worst possible outcome.

I really hope I'm wrong but I believe this just set this franchise back several years.

Fuck Chip Kelly and fuck Jeff Lurie in the fuckin ass.

Chip's offense is that the primary difference is in the offensive line. The smaller size, and the blocking schemes are really different and that part I don't believe can translate over to the pros..

their o-line make up..and their blocking scheme gives them a huge advantage in college....and those clinics he ran up there for high school coaches gives a huge advantage at that level once you got it down. My school honestly became unbeatable after going to those clinics and getting the scheme down.....

but in the pros you can't do it like that. guys are too big and too strong.

he's gonna have to adjust....I'm sure he will...but the adjument goes beyond the play calling..it's right up front with the type of o line guys he uses...

lol damn nfc east scared as shit already
dallas media couldn't even give it a couple of hours before panicking

http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/2013/01/new-eagles-coach-chip-kelly-dominated-cowboys-monte-kiffin-the-last-three-seasons.html/

When Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin left USC he probably thought he’d be escaping the high-powered, up-tempo offense that Chip Kelly had coached at Oregon. On Wednesday it was reported that Kiffin will actually get to see that offense more at his new job.

Kelly has left Oregon to take the head-coaching position with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to multiple reports, meaning Kiffin will face Kelly at least twice a year in the NFC East.

During Kiffin’s three seasons coaching USC’s defense, the Trojans went 1-2 against Kelly’s Ducks. Furthermore, Oregon averaged 601 yards of offense and 50 points in those three games.

“He comes up with some new wrinkles every year,” Kiffin told the LA Times in November. “You can have a lot of speed and not know what you’re doing. They know how to get the ball to their speed.”

Oregon defeated USC 62-51 on November 3, gaining 730 yards of offense, which included 426 yards on the ground.

Kelly was one of the first candidates interviewed for the Eagles coaching position after Andy Reid was fired last month. As arguably the hottest coaching candidate on the market, Kelly also interviewed with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. However, it appeared Kelly wasn’t swept away with the offers and was going to return to Oregon.

Oregon has gone 46-7 over the last four years under Kelly, including four consecutive BCS bowl appearances.

Trying to do it big has blown up in the Eagles faces the last few years. But at the same time I THINK I'd rather be humbled early than to stay on the fringe like the Cowboys have these last few.

He's going to have a long successful career, as long as he maintains his enthusiasm for the job.

The pro ranks suit him much better than college (he has never recruited with a mind to selling kids on Oregon, because he doesn't believe in that) and dealing with boosters is not his thing. He likes to deal in x's and o's and game plans - and the pros will allow him to do that to his heart's content with little to distract him.

He's not going to be in the college ranks again any time soon. I feel very strongly about it.

I know Chip will adjust his offense..but I believe his "laser" position will play a role even in the NFL...and that's going to equate..if it works..to more teams going that route..thus more guys getting a chance in the nfl who do fit the every down back or WR frame..but are still playmakers..

It's a combination of Oregon's H-back, wideout, and tailback playbook designations.

In response to Reply # 0

I've heard it all my life about the option

which is just now being utilized

with success I might add

now the same argument is being paraded to criticize CK

explain it to me like I'm 12 Y.O.

what won't work?

ol' heads disappoint me everytime they dismiss an idea without even giving it a try

the spread option and the high number of plays

with the spread option (basically a 3 wide out set with a running back in the backfield) base on how the QB reads the DE, he can hand the ball off to the RB, pass to a WR, or keep the ball himself and run.

the knocks on the spread option is that, DEs are too quick and can change direction faster thus blowing up the play, that LBs are too fast and smart to bite on any play fakes, and lastly the QB open for big hits (beacuse there are no RB in the backfield to block for him).

Chip Kelly also believes is quickly running plays to keep the defensive off balance. he does this by shortening play names to one word.

isn't that what NE just did this season

leading the league in least amount of time between plays at 25 seconds

and the number of offensive plays ran

the too big, too fast, too strong argument...ehh

like I said, that was the same argument against the option

and that seems to have had success this year

it's just the defeated mentality of the old guard that is so afraid of change

and so desperate to cling to the past

the NFL is transitioning to emphasize offense, almost exclusively

new schemes are going to be implemented to take advantage

a CK scheme seems to be a way to do that.

Oregon under CK has been known for running a small number of "plays" from a variety of different formations with a lot of pre-snap motion "window dressing." Oregon also (particularly recently) didn't spend a lot of time with 3 wideouts on the field. We almost always have 2 receivers out there, but we switch up a lot of things with TEs and the "TZR" role mentioned elsewhere, which is ultimately a version of a slotback. It really all depends on the personnel.

Also Oregon was pretty well known for reading all over the defense, rather than just the DE. Oregon QBs would read almost anybody in the front seven - DE, DT, OLB...

But really the answer to the question is what sp has posted below. Folks are assuming CK will run his Oregon offense when he gets to the NFL, which is patently absurd.

A big part of what Oregon does relies on heavy rotation, and with fewer bodies on the NFL sideline, that's unlikely to be a wise course of action.

lol idiots
dude has MONTHS to tailor his system to NFL defenses
it probably won't look like what he did at oregon that much
the main thing we will probably see is the hurry up nature of his offense which will work perfectly with the eagles agile (undersized?) Oline and speed oriented skill players

sign him. Regardless of how people will spin it, he was the most sought after coach in this year's NFL head coaching frenzy (I wonder how pissed off Joe Banner is right now???). Dude can flat out coach. Will he experience that same success here in PHilly? Who knows. People will say there's a lot of mystery with him. Well, there would have been those same apprehensions with the other big name coaching candidates (Brian Billick, Gus Bradley, Arians, Wizzenhunt, etc.).

Chip's an exremely innovative coach. He will adapt to the talent he he's given. He's not gonna expect Foles to run the offense in the same manner as Dennis Dixon, Mariotta, etc. He will adapt. Will he run into trouble? Absolutely. The single greatest concern with him and the team's overall success is the development of Foles or some other QB. He's got to get that position solidified relatively soon or else it's going to be awfully tough to be competitive.

Overall, I'm very, very pleased with his hiring. The only other coach I really liked was Lovie Smith. I was lukewarm on Gus Bradley and didn't care much for the other mentioned candidates. I will be anxiously awaiting the development of Chip's staff.

Obviously this isn't some unique viewpoint but cotdamn was it refreshing to hear after all these recent years of Andy's head-scratching calls and tactics. You'd think this thought process would be coaching 101 but as we all know, especially Eagles fans, some coaches or regimes get so stuck in their system that they lose sight of basic effective coaching principles.

and marty in particular were on some 'rather win cute' shit.

ducks' offense could still run between the tackles AND on the edge.

and what i like about variations of the spread (including ones that rely on the run) is that they force EVERY player on defense to play the entire field.

go ahead and sell out on the pass if you want to. we're running.

go ahead and stack the box if you want to, we'll throw over the top.

it seems so simple, but andy, if anything, is marked by his commitment to only wanting to run / play call on his own terms. damn it, its 1st and goal, and if i can't score off a triple dipple inside trap, i don't gollydarn want the td.

fuck + that.

next.

peace & blessings,

x.

to what the defense was giving them (I'm talking specifically about in-game adjustments, bc AR could gameplan real well). It's crazy how they would continue to dial up long developing passes when the other team's safties would be lined up 20 yards off the ball (respecting DJax's speed). It was aggrivating to no end. Like you said, Chip won't be afraid to go with what works best and make in-game adjustments. I'm really, really looking forward to the changes he makes.

The staff was trying to force plays where they clearly weren't available...rather than taking what was available. That's the beauty of an effective spread...you force the defense to defend (and it puts a ton of pressure on defensive discipline, decision making and communication) numerous options and then based on the read, go with the option most likely to succeed.

He will collaborate with the players and make sure they are comfortable doing what is asked of them. If it becomes clear to him that they can't execute for one reason or another, he'll change the plan accordingly.

evident these past 2-3 seasons. Players can say what they want about their lack of effort, but to me that's more of an indictment on the coaching staff.

In the past 2-3 seasons, how many young guys can you honestly say got markedly better? Very, very few (Shady and...?????). It's not simply a scouting issue. The players just aren't being coached up and as a result, a lot of these guys have actually regressed. I refuse to believe that the coaching staff of the past several seasons was getting the most out of the players. I'm really hoping that changes with a fresh new coaching staff.

He's pulling some valuable personnel from Eugene.

James Harris is going to be Assistant GM. He's a very competent nutritionist but he played a big role in the AD out here developing 'life skills' programs and managing community relations (community service) stuff.

Josh Gibson was our recruiting coordinator and he's following Chip as well. (You may remember Gibson from the Lyles story...)

Todd Lyght (Former pro bowler and recently a GA) is headed out there

So too is former Duck DB Matthew Harper who was also a GA. These two were very highly regarded here.

And, most predictably, he's taking Jerry Azzinaro our DL coach. This one stings for me because he's majorly responsible for our defensive renaissance under CK. Say what you want about our D, but our DL became a lot more innovative, flexible, and VARIED under the tutelage of Azz (he heavily influenced the longstanding DC Nick Aliotti.) But his major claim to fame is (still) developing Freeny when he was at Syracuse.

I really hope CK doesn't make head S&C coach Jim Radcliffe an offer he can't refuse, because that will be a catastrophic blow.
