"Scale of 1-10: how mad is Mike Stoops? "

Mike Stoops on Manziel: ‘If they keep him out of jail… he’ll be pretty good’

Yep, he went there.

In the Cotton Bowl a week ago, Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel ripped the Oklahoma defense to the tune of 516 yards and four touchdowns as the Aggies throttled the Sooners 41-13. The man whose defense was charged with stopping or at least slowing down the 2012 Heisman winner was sufficiently impressed with what he witnessed last Friday night.

“Never seen anything like that,” OU’s Mike Stoops said during a radio interview this evening, as transcribed by Tulsa World‘s John Hoover. “Never felt as defenseless as we were the other night, that’s for sure.”

As is ofttimes the case, though, the loquacious Stoops, brother of head coach Bob Stoops, couldn’t help himself as he tossed out some words of wisdom/caution for head coach Kevin Sumlin and his Aggies coaching staff.

Said the defensive coordinator, “If they can keep (Manziel) out of jail or keep him eligible, he’s gonna be pretty good.”

Manziel, of course, was arrested back in late June for disorderly conduct and possessing a fake identification. Many thought the incident had derailed Manziel’s shot at A&M’s starting job; instead, he won it a month a half later and went on to a record-breaking regular season capped by becoming the first freshman — redshirt or otherwise — to win a Heisman.

Whether or not Stoops’ comment was a shot at the off-field incident is not exactly clear — OK, it was. Stoops, though, wasn’t done as, in addition to expressing concern about future incarceration, he also delved deeper into the eligibility issue

“If they can keep him off the Twitter, he might have 3-4 Heismans,” Stoops said. “He’ll have that type of ability.”

(Writer’s note: forget it, he’s rolling)

That’s apparently in reference to some pictures posted by Manziel to his Twitter account in the aftermath of the blowout win over the Sooners. In the photos, the underage Manziel is seen holding a bottle of Dom Perignon as well as fanning out a wad of money (pictured, above right) that he apparently won while at a casino. The photos set of a laughable mini-firestorm of controversy as some accused the quarterback of bending or outright breaking NCAA bylaws.

In response to that particular controversy, Manziel sent out a tweet earlier today that read “Great visit to the hospital today in Connecticut made a ton of new friends. Hopefully this picture passes compliance” and included the following photo:

Johnny Manziel

Well played, Johnny Football. Well played.

Good to see that there’s at least one person with class in this post…

How many players get themselves in shit for posting dumb pictures to twitter?

He's pushing that lovable and white thing as far as he can, eventually it might crash on him if he keeps escalating.

Happened to a Pitt player for doing the same exact thing, posting pictures of himself flashing stacks

But he took it one step further and said "who says playing football don't get you rich" or something similar. This was also a 2nd or 3rd incident for him.

You know how many football players lose eligibility for stupid shit having to do with being too boisterous and showing it off?

So with 3 more years to heighten what he is currently doing could he get himself in trouble? I didn't say it is going to happen but it's that that far fetched to say he needs to take it easy on twitter.

Being able to lift a bunch doesn't really have much to do with playing QB, else Tebow would be the best QB in the league. And to be fair to AJ, Tom Brady was pretty much built the same way when he came out of college: http://www.steelerslounge.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/tom_brady_nfl_draft_combine_2000.jpg

O_E edit

MIAMI -- Around 7:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 3, 2012, DeAndra Chapman wrote the following message on a CaringBridge page, a website that was providing family and friends with updates on the condition of her ailing 3-year-old daughter:

It is with an overwhelmingly heavy heart that I type this status. Today, after a seizure, Starla left us. And after two minutes of chest compressions she was revived. We later found that another ECHO showed even more decreased heart function than before. She is now on life support and we need a miracle!!!!!! I'm so hurt, and please don't ask any questions as I will not share any more information. I love my beautiful daughter with EVERY fiber of my being, GOD knows this, EVERYONE knows this. Please pray!!!! Pray for a MIRACLE!!!!

Starla Chapman was clinging to life as she battled acute myeloid leukemia, a rare form of cancer that starts in bone marrow and blood and progresses rapidly. Chemotherapy to fight the disease damaged Starla's heart so severely that it was functioning at only 6 percent capacity. After she flatlined on Jan. 3, 2012, and then was revived by the chest compressions, doctors at the University of South Alabama Children's and Women's Hospital in Mobile, Ala., put her in a medically induced coma to try to keep her alive.

"That night, they definitely told us to prepare for the worst," DeAndra said. "Her father was with her in the pediatric unit when she flatlined. He was holding Starla as she was getting ready to take her meds. He said she just locked up and her tongue fell out of her mouth. There was no heartbeat or blood pressure. I saw my husband shaking and crying. I knew something bad was happening."

Doctors gave DeAndra and Korey Chapman the worst possible prognosis: Without chemotherapy, Starla would die from the cancer that was ravaging her little body. But the chemotherapy would probably kill her, because her heart was so badly damaged.

"The doctors told us numerous times to call our families, pastors and friends to come see her because today was going to be the day," DeAndra said. "They told us if they wanted to see her, they needed to come to the hospital because she probably wasn't going to make it."

Doctors told Starla's parents she needed a heart transplant, but couldn't get one because of the cancer. Doctors wanted to life flight her to a hospital in Atlanta or Birmingham, Ala., but they feared she wouldn't survive being transported.

"I told them, 'What you're saying is we're going to have to stay here and we're going to lose her here,'" DeAndra said. "The doctors told me we'd already lost her once."

Nearly 150 miles away, Starla's newest friend was preparing to play the biggest football game of his life. Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, a native of Mobile, met the little girl more than a week earlier, when he and his family delivered presents to the hospital's pediatric patients on Christmas Eve 2011. McCarron was a patient at the hospital after he was nearly killed in a jet ski accident as a young boy.

When McCarron handed Starla a present that night, she was wearing an Alabama cheerleading uniform. She handed him back a present of her own: a bright yellow bracelet that was inscribed with the words, "Just trust."

On the night Starla was diagnosed with leukemia in September 2011, and the day before she would begin grueling chemotherapy treatments, the little girl told her noticeably concerned parents, "Just trust."

On Sept. 8, the Chapmans were in attendance when McCarron led the Crimson Tide to a 35-0 victory over Western Kentucky at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Starla wore his No. 10 jersey with "AJ's Girl" on the back.

"We saw the compassion he had for our daughter," DeAndra said. "He went out of his way to have fundraisers and solicit prayers for us. It was how you would expect a godfather to be."

McCarron is still wearing Starla's bracelet today. When McCarron underwent shoulder surgery after the 2011 season, he instructed doctors not to cut the bracelet from his wrist.

McCarron will be wearing the bracelet again on Monday night. And a little girl will be watching him from her home in Mobile.

"I always loved giving back," McCarron said. "I think my mom has done a tremendous job of raising me in that aspect of life. She's always taught me to kind of give back to people a little less fortunate. I've been blessed enough to be in a position to kind of touch people's lives, inspire them in certain ways, and was a blessing to me.

"I never take it off. I'm always thinking about her. She's a special girl."

Y'all just keep on and on. The combo of Saban, the SEC, 'Bama,
and me apparently has y'all so butt hurt that you can't even think straight.
I'm really supposed to feel bad about a loss that had no effect on
our championship season? Lol. Ok. And y'all wonder why I'm an asshole
to y'all. Roll Tide.

Like, chill out.

Johnny Football is already better than any QB in the
history of Alabama.

There's no shame in that.

Chill out.

i don't want to be presumptuous, but it seems like having the golden boy and early contender for best college QB ever play like he plays validates the whole paradigm, even though he yakubian.

a) He only has a job because of the black QBs before him.
After the 2000 Sugar Bowl, Bobby Bowden literally said that
in 10 years, college football would be full of Michael Vicks.
He was right.

b) Him succeeding and being ACCEPTED for being different
is good for further black QBs.

In summary:
He is successful because of black QBs, and his success
helps other black QBs.

And that's the TRUE spirit of the black QB agenda:

We really do care about humanity and stand up for anyone
who is different and catches flack for it. Its the MLK-style
agenda. Nope! MLK supported them gays! Sure did. The black
QB agenda supports Jeff Garcia and all QBs who are unfairly
shat on for being different. Tebow doesn't really count because
of various confounders, though if you've noticed some of
his strongest supporters are actually black folks
