"Poll question: Better Career & Player: Magic or Kobe?"

this was posed on ESPN last nite with Kobe winning by a 52% to 48% margin..

but I've noticed that when this question is posed, its basically code for "who is/was the better player" lol

I say Magic easily on both accounts. I wont even go into how Magic is the better player because, really, if you saw Magic in his prime, aint no way Kobe compares.

But career wise might be more debateable but I still give the edge to Magic. Only reason this is even worthy of debate is cus Magic career was cut short

but what says OKS tho?

Poll result (41 votes)
Magic: better player & better career (25 votes)Vote
Magic: better player only (1 votes)Vote
Magic: better career only (0 votes)Vote
Kobe: better player & better career (10 votes)Vote
Kobe: better player only (1 votes)Vote
Kobe: better career only (4 votes)Vote

in any universe

IMO you have Magic and Jabbar as locks. West, Baylor and Shaq are all debatable ones. The Shaq argument is thin though, Baylor, too. West is a tough one. Still, IMO Kobe is no lower than 4th, probably 3rd.

C'mon lets be real.. Only reason this is even debateable is the fact Pierce career has lingered on steadily, while AI was suddenly derailed.

but put up AI's first 12 seasons vs. Pierce 12, and its no contest. And I say this as a Celts fan and Pierce apologist

Kobe's playing his best basketball in 3 years and is arguably the best 2 guard in the league right today.

"Kobe's playing his best basketball in 3 years and is arguably the best 2 guard in the league right today."

to the detriment of his team

he was playing very well early in the season, about the first couple of weeks in November

since then, his FGAs has increased while his FG% is decreasing (along with decreases in other categories)

to the point where his team mates are checking out and losing interest

but hey, as long as he get HIS, it's GREAT, right?

how many forced, contested, 3pt FGAs, 5 feet behind the arc in the final possession of the game do we have to see, before the LAL start running a more effective set?

"Kobe hasn't had D12 and Pau for the entire season. what are you even talking about?"

not sure what that has to do with a hypothetical of Magic being able to have this team playing at a higher level than Kobe is

>I doubt this team is anywhere close to sub .500

so anytime you want to address the statements I made

instead of deflecting

I'll wait

What is the point in refuting a statement with no factual evidence to back it up? I have shit to do.

>he was playing very well early in the season, about the first

He is still playing at an elite level.

Is this another statement with no basis in fact you're looking for me to refute?

Because in his 17th season, magic would not have this team in it's current state doing any better. It's silly. Magic is my favorite player EVER and is a better player than Magic. But there's no need to make silly hyperbolic statements. If you want to argue Magic in his 12th season wouldn't have the team at .500 then fine. But Kobe was 29
in his 12th season. He won a Finals MVP that year. You think he's the same player now?

he was clearly the best at his position from day one goddamn near, he was three MVPs and three Finals MVPs, had more team success, etc. was magic every watching the playoffs on TV? fuck no!

this is ridiculous, i cannot let this "he lasted longer, he had a better career" shit ride. you dont hear this kind of nonsense in other sports for whatever reason it seems

Lakers, with Kwame n them...I'd still pick Kobe.

And also, what about Steve Nash on this team? Would he play SG or backup PG?

Magic's career does include HS and NCAA chips

he went #1 overall

and balled immediately

it's one of the factors that will forever make Kobe #2 (specifically compared to MJ)

these guys came into the league and balled IMMEDIATELY

specifically compared to Magic

the factor that jumps out is who did Kobe make BETTER

Magic could grab 4 guys out of the stands and run you

Kobe, ehh, not so much

Showtime >>> Hero Ball

better player

made teammates better around him

took a jive turkey coach like mike dunleavy to the finals

kobe, ran Rudy Tomjanovich out of la like the ghost of kermitt washington's fist was behind him

Magic and Shaq win 5 titles in a row together.

Kareem would have duct taped kobe's mouth.

kobe ain't much without a big man in the paint.

magic went to the finals with floppy divac nuff said.

kobe scored alot and is great for his time, however the bad boys back in the day would have turned kobe into eddie jones lite.

magic had the better career and is the better player no doubt. the new school dribble moves, stutter step, leaping ability, and smoother/faster overall body movement don't make kobe a better player. magic's jumper is just as wet.

kobe and jordan had plenty of that, too, but magic was like the all time prime example of it.

But I mean, cmon, career? Magic went to NINE NBA Finals. One could argue he was their top player the whole time, especially with the injury to Jabbar in the 80 Finals (they also had injuries up the ass in 83 when they lost, but Magic was there). He won as many rings and more conference crowns in a much shorter career. He also had all the individual honors.

You couldn't really compare them statistically because their roles were completely different. I think you'd have to give the nod to Magic on leadership over Kobe or Shaq for sure though. Kobe was clearly a better or at least much more interested defensive player. Their offensive games are just too different but I would say Magic was more dominant. He dictated the pace of the game and he was just in constant command. Kobe could take over at a more intense level, but not as consistently, plus if he was off he could hurt you worse.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
