been following the season closely enough, more than most recent years. But haven't looked at the standings at all - by product of the death of newspapers. A few things surprised me a bit:

MIA - I guess bc their losses have been so bad (WAS, DET, Mil, etc) I thought they were further back, 22-8 isn't great, but still best record in East. Traks to about 55, which I think is around where they'll end up

GS - Not a surprise, but just wanted to point out there were a bunch of loud/dumb/wrong assholes that were talking all kinds of smack about Mark Jackson's coaching ability 3 games into the season. I still maintain evaluating coaching ability is the pastime of idiots.

Clips- Did just lose 2 in a row, but with the streak still surprised, thought they would have less losses than MIA

Pacers - pleasantly surprised to see us with a top4 decent record in spite of terrible start/Granger's absence/Hibbert literally stealing $$. Paul George and David West been carrying us.

I'll say this...He's had an up and down season...But if Bulls ownership actually wasn't so damn cheap they could get in the mix...U don't have to give up too much for dude right now...Mempis is just looking to get under the tax line...

Memphis doesn't have a perimeter (or any) player of Rose's caliber...That team is not similarly built than a full roster Bulls team...Because Memphis relies on Rudy to be their best perimeter guy and gets a bulk of those production from their bigs.....hence why Rudy makes perfect sense for the Bulls...

He gives the Bulls a true second option that can FINALLY get his own shot and take pressure off of Rose coming off a knee surgery...This is sorely needed for the Bulls...

It's one thing to depend on Gay to be your best player like he has been before Zebo started to take over...He's not a true no. 1 option...he never was...

But if he's your second option on a team with a true franchise player, you can do some serious damage...

Similarly built in that they play a slow pace and focus on d.

What's interesting is a straight deng for Rudy swap probably would be a decent fit fr both teams.

With what I said above I'd still rather have deng. He does every single thing better than Rudy except score and even that's debatable since Rudy shoots 41%

Randolph is the clear 1 guy on memphis. Rudy may be 2b with gasol. The offense should run through te post but too often Rudy is chucking and taking dumb shots.

I wouldn't trade Deng for Gay...And from what I've been reading, Memphis don't want a big contract like Deng's...They want a player (or players) that can help them get under basketball tax hell...

So such a move would not involve giving up Deng...I would rather keep him anyway...his defense is special...

i just mentioned deng because you suggested he'd give the bulls a true second option who can create his own shot.

you're overestimated what gay can do in comparison to deng.

you the one need to chill on the duke stuff, dogg. didn't even cross my mind.

>i just mentioned deng because you suggested he'd give the
>bulls a true second option who can create his own shot.

It's about DUKE because you went nuts when I posted that the Bulls don't have a true OFFENSIVE second option thinking that I was shitting on a player from Duke...And that's still true to this day...Deng has made me a fan...Dude is the best defending SF in the league and he'll drop 18 every night...

But this has nothing to do with the Bulls lacking a another player that can get his own shot...

>you're overestimated what gay can do in comparison to deng.

I never compared Deng to Gay...in fact I said I wouldn't trade Deng for Gay because of the defense Deng gives the Bulls...

>you the one need to chill on the duke stuff, dogg. didn't even
>cross my mind.

Bottom line...Gay is a better offensive player than Deng...He just is...However, Deng does more on the defensive end than Gay...

The ideal situation for the Bulls would be to keep Deng and somehow get Gay to be Rose's Robin...

For you to turn this into another "dancing on the Bulls" jab is silly...That's why I called bullshit on this Duke shit...

Because the player in question (Deng) just happens to be from Duke...

Like you said, Gay was never a TRUE 1st option....But Gay could easily give the Bulls 20 plus points a game playing with Rose...Easily...

But, really, you are looking at points per game...I'm not...

I'm looking at HOW a player SCORES THOSE POINTS...That's more important than anything else when it comes to scoring...

Again..the reason why the Bulls have had issues in the playoffs during the last few years is because we lack a second dynamic scorer...U bottle up Rose and no one else on the team can get off his own shot...It's stagnant...

What I love about Deng is he is steady...U know what you are going to get and he's hell on the defensive end...

So give me Gay as the second offensive option and hold on to Deng as the Bulls top defender and I think the Bulls will have something...

>rudy not that type of scorer.

This is all I know...Rudy can get his own shot...That's it...The problem with dude is he thinks he's a first option....He's not...

But playing next to Rose? He could get to the basket whenever he wanted..And he could thrive off Rose's double teams...

In fact, Gay has never played with someone who consistently drew a double team beyond Z-Bo going Beast Mode over the last season and a half...Rose playing with a 6'8 perimeter player who can post up smaller guards and get his own shot without screens, depending on set plays or kick outs?

When you get over your weird hatred for this dude you will see where I'm getting at...

Mike Conley is not Rose...I think Rudy would experience this as soon as he steps on the court with the kid...

Z-Bo/Marc should be getting 30 shots minimum and Rudy is the one getting in the way of that not happening. wTf has Rudy ever accomplished to be on the top of the totem pole? A realistic scenario would probably be swapping him w/ Iggy. Rudy can gun w/ reckless abandon in Denver since George Karl's system is lacking a shooters and Iggy will happy feed the bigs since he doesn't have the mentality of a scorer. They can always pick up a shooter to space the floor and slide Tony to a 6th man role.

people get caught up in the L's, but if they can draft right, and absorb the right contract in a trade, then can have something to build on for 4-5 yrs.

he's getting into the lane well enough, but not finishing at the rim or making clean passes out to the perimeter. that one where he airmailed a pass almost into the stands triggered an outstandingly ugly sequence of basketball. might have more luck making this a toney douglas night, especially defensively.

monta has the worst shot selection in the NBA. those endless long jumpers would drive me insane if i cared about the bucks. at least udoh, sanders and henson can retrieve his bricks.

harden gonna score 35.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

when the team is hitting them, and he comes off the pnr, the wing defender has to honor their shooters. gives him an easier path to the rin,

since he can't shoot when the D goes under the screen, and if the 3's aren't hitting, then he's played for the drive and the lane's clogged.

good thing for houston they resurrected toney douglas' corpse, harden can score/create, and when Lin's struggling, he doesn't do too much, just sticks to what works.

Tonight I get it theyre playing big scary Larry sanders the leagues leading shot blocker and a slew of tall, lanky 6'10 guys roaming but he can blow by anyone in the legue--he gets to the rim and kicks out. Tonight a bunch of those were turnovers. Take the layup, try to get fouled. Yea I get it... You don't always get calls. Who cares? Keep attacking. You're a rhythm player. You make a few and you get going. He was able to do it fine in the 2nd half after he came back from getting stitched up. That gash was nasty. But yea he just has to be aggressive. He was 0-4 with 3 of his shots from 3. That isn't his strength and won't get it done. He often hits that shot better once he gets swag from laying the ball up.

With Nate and Marco able to dribble the basketball, this team will be more dangerous on offense when Rose gets back.

And with the Heat (and much of the east in general) void of big men with balls, losing Asik doesn't hurt as much.

I hope Rose comes back strong *this* year.

None of this is true....

The Bulls are doing it off of defense...They def. miss Asik, if only because of the impact he had on Taj Gibson (basically the Bulls miss the entire bench from last season, but that's another post)..

Basically, the Bulls went 2 for 18 in one quarter and still won the the game...And they are winning it because Thibs got them boys rebounding and playing D...

This was a GOOD win for the Bulls...But I still don't want Rose coming back this season...Let him rest until next season...Because this team is a first round and out...

and i agree, we do play great defense. but we just scored 95 against a good defensive team on the road with Deng scoring 6 points. our offense isn't bad as a whole, just has a weak three ball... and we just signed a three point threat in daequan cook.

We scored 95 points at one point shooting 2 for 18 later in the game...But guess what? We still beat the Heat by beating them on the glass...That's all to it...

So no....the Bulls had a better team last season...And the season before that...But this Bulls squad is doing it on offensively on smoke and mirrors...This is a team winning on pure defense and rebounding...And that's it...

As a Bulls fan, I'll cheer my squad on...They are a scrappy bunch and play with heart and Thibs is a genius....But this is not a team that will do much in the playoffs...

We have to get a true second offensive option when Rose comes back...

I'll settle for wins like this though....lol

they're good for not hitting, then going on 16-3, 17-4 binges late in games. That pace, vs second tier and bad teams pays off. You're gonna turn the ball over keeping up, they're gonna score fast break points, and they're gonna hit 3's.

that's how it gets ugly quick.

I keep it 100 on Jeremy too. he had a terrible 1st half, sat out the whole 3rd because his wig was split wide open and came back and did fine in the 4th. I think he was 3/4 5 assists, 2 steals, and 1 turnover. Guinness didnt say he had a phenomenal half, just that he saved an atrocious game. I mean the 1st half line was on track for worst game of the season.

Anyhow part of the reason I will point out shit liek this is because I watched the game. I was just waiting for someone who looked at the boxscore to say "Oh no Toney Douglas is gonna take Lin's job", not knowing Lin was in the locker room the whole 3rd qtr.

Im about to get on some Ba shit cause you (not you specifically RBO) motherfuckers wanna up 3 posts every time Lin has a bad game.

There aint no post for how bad lawson has been. No post on BK, no post on Teague. No post on lil Zeke who last year cats said was as good as Lin. Yall cysed gatekeeper having a good game vs Rondo, what about his shit game tonight when they needed him with Zach out. Or his 3/12 and 3/17 performances the game before that. The 3/17 in a bad loss to Philly. Yet hes supposed to be Mr. Steady I dont lose games.

Like I say, I aint for all that back and forth post upping and agenda riding, but yall are gonna turn me into that dude on some Ba "nobody says jack shit about anyone except Austin Rivers" shit. Yall dont want me to do that because I watch more games and comb through more boxscores than anybody on this board I guarantee it.

Oh P.S. for all you cats who were saying shit about his shooting % and making fun of his 30% start lots of these pgs yall love are below him in fg% now and they jack a lot more shots--hurting their team.

about a certain player.

If there's gonna be multiple posts made updating us about everything Jeremy Lin does, then expect backlash when he's ass.

Just like Basa going balls out with Austin Rivers as R.O.Y., people gonna talk about him posting lines that look like a JV girls basketball backup small forward.

You want the attention, you gonna take the negative as well.

For example, PROMO loves him some Terrence Ross. If PROMO made a complete post about "Terrence Ross gonna skull fuck your favorite wing player and there ain't shit you can do about it."

I'd expect there to be some Terrence Ross backlash when he shoots a 2-8.

But nope, PROMO shouts out the good games, posts some dunk clips, keep it moving.

If y'all don't wanna attract lightning rods, stop flying them kites.

You know these posters are vultures. Every little thing.

If I sat here and responded to every Rondo post, I'd have to get an Administrative Assistant to keep track of this shit.

ill wait. There wasnt even a post if I remember when he dropped 38. Yet there are 3-4 different posts that get upped when he doesnt play well. I usually write game recaps but havent even done those when hes had good games like he did on Monday vs ATL cause im on vacation.

Yea you can find that Austin Rivers post. There arent similar posts for Jeremy Lin except an all star one which was predicated on him getting votes.

Sorry people just mad cause they dont like Jeremy Lin for whatever reason. People mad cause he got that much love during "linsanity" oh fucking well. That shit was deserved. Feel free to up this post the next time anybody matches that stretch in 8 or 10 games (that wasnt a known star in the league) or whatever it was---let alone in their 8-10 first starts.

From this board? Like I said at this point you see a bunch of lin back n forth cause one shit gets upped and I respond. There aren't a lot of upped lin posts when he plays well from either side.

Sheesh

U bring attention to ur dude dont be crying when he gets it

Now the upping post is unnecessary considering hes trash 1 out of every 3 games

Its kinda redundant

Plus its more entertaining watching u plea cop in the game post

Personally I dont even care anymore

The bar is going to keep being lowered no matter what he do so its pointless

anytime the backup is consistently out-performing the starter it pretty much speaks for itself

If lin was putting up douglas numbers it would be linsanity all over again

Subjctmattr will engage in dialogue, I've even seen SPM do it. Truth does it. RBO definitely does, so I'll go back n forth with them.

But this dude is just here trying to ruffle feathers. If thats what he likes, cool. He aint gonna catch me in a long back and forth.

He's gonna come back with his holier than thou "LMAO at yall taking a message board seriously"

Meanwhile he spends his days trying to troll said people on a message board.

But like I said its turning into a pointless 'agenda'

the verdict is already out that hes what he came into the league as

hes made the most of his opportunity and cashed in

An taller asian JJ Barea

and thats not a diss

JJ puttin up similar numbers this season 11 and 5 I believe

But yea

Only thing is yal have lowered the bar so much that an 11 and 5 game is ballin now

Shyts hilarious

Yal just be happy he doesn't have one of his 6pt 3 assist on 2-11 shooting nights

Anyway its pointless even clowning

Especially now that I think shawn is saying we gotta wait 3yrs to see his true potential now

Lulz

But have fun

I disagree at the rate of learning. They all have diff skill sets from a young level. Kyrie has natural ball handler and finishing skills. The ball handling allows him to be a more effective pg in the NBA. His game is kinda regressing to one dimensional scorer.

Jennings is still a volume shooter, but has a natural vision that he doesn't use. That's why I fell in love with his game at a HS level. He's not growing.

Lillard? I don't watch. Don't care.

J'rue is expanding his game. I like him a lot. He needs to stay aggressive.

BK is a scoring streak shooter. Limited handles. He's trying to learn how to think the game as a pg. He's getting stronger but not strong enough to finish at the rim like Kyrie. But he's trying force himself to be a traditional pg. might work. Might not. I think best case scenario is he'd be a version of Mike Bibby. Clutch. And take more 15 footers.

True. And the only winning Elton knows is 5 years in a row being crowned with that prime center square spot on the Barber Shop Haircut Poster. Shape up impeccable.

Boy Lin does get computers 'putin.

let's go to the videotape:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Iyv371OOgEA#t=3m10s

after missing almost the entire 3rd qtr, here's the 4th quarter stats:
6 pts
4 dimes
3 steals
accounting for 18 pts of offense in a game the team won by 14, in a game as close at 90-87.

he wasnt fantastic.
no one's Linsane.
he had a good game down the stretch despite a terrible first half n 5 stitches.
he chipped in.

the other week right before he was coming back with that 'we'll figure out what he can do well' bullshit about putting him back in the lineup.

Tonight when Broussard asks if there's been a concerted effort towards getting Dwight more involved based on the fourth quarter he replied 'we're gonna do a mixture of everything, I mean he does have two Hall of Famers out there with him' as if the guy he's got shooting threes for no reason who happens to be one of the best all-around low-post players of the past decade didn't exist.

Just little disrespect I don't see him try with anybody else of the big dawgs on this team.

It's quite simple...Even Magic, Jalen and the Sports Guy said it...D'Antoni coaches ONE way...He's not a good coach in terms of playing to his own players strengths...

U got bigs...Pound 'em....Instead he has them playing like they are in Phoenix...

It's just silly...

Jim can't fire two coaches in one year. He wouldn't give Phil and Jeannie the satisfaction of bringing him back.

He's gotta make a move, and it's probably Pau, which is why D"Antoni is treating him like shit.

In response to Reply # 0

Enough of the early transition jumpers, only feeds into the Clippers break. We are a very very efficient team when we just run D'Antoni's half-court sets.

Defensively, we have to dictate the screen roll rather than being on our heels. Our bigs arent even getting out of the lane and CP3 gets any look or mismatch he wants.

The defensive commucation and execution is non-existent, and there's zero multiple efforts. We suck, the amount of breakdowns and then possesions we give up on lack of effort alone is inexcusable.

Conspiracy theorists will say Mitch/NBA will find a way trade Pau and Robert Sacre for Kevin Love. Pau gets to play with his boyfriend Rubio.

I just did Philly for Hawes, Jrich, and Thadd Young

Utah for expiring Al Jeff and Raja?
Utah for expiring Milsap, Bell, and a bunch of throwaways

Phx for Frye Dudley Scola Shannon Brown (scola cant be traded yet though)

Minn could work if theyd part with love or pekovic if you take on Derrick Williams, Ridnour, and some junk

Toronto for Bargnani and Landry Fields contracts...maybe you can get a Terrence Ross or Derozan thrown in

Chicago for Boozer and Hinrich

Cle for Andy, Luuuuke, and junk

Mil for Beno, Dalembert who are both expiring, take on Goodens bad deal and maybe get Tobias, Harris, Pryz, or gulp Brandon Jennings and his expiring deal.

But I don't how they looked in the half court on the last four or five possessions. Not enough movement with the players or basketball at all. But they will get the win, so there's that.

Anyone who watches their games knows that it's not a problem. The national media doesn't watch regular season games and they base their analysis on last years series vs the Spurs. This is a completely different team.

I was waiting for Naah to return before making a real final assessment...fact is dude cannot play in this system with any consistency. I mean 2 pts, 4 boards and 2 assists tonight in 27 mins while J Hill put up 13 and 7 in 19 mins.

Obviously a big salary but dude still has some value. An infusion of athleticism and quickness would be huge for us man.

he's okay on the ball and plays passing lanes really well -- but he's prone to lapses, whether in judgement or effort. i thought he mostly played great tonight, and even made a bunch of unnecessarily difficult shots.

the MVPau issue is one of the lakers' bigger problems. he's struggled since he's moved away from the basket, both from the emergence of bynum and now with dwight. he's also being forced to guard quicker players and is much more of an interior presence than a perimeter threat (despite being a great passer). on one hand, i understand the criticism of d'antoni here, but at the same time, jordan hill is having success as a high-energy dude with more mobility and athleticism. pau would probably be better served playing center at this stage.

whatever the case, he's still too good to be getting 27 minutes and six FG attempts, assuming his knees aren't fully turned to mutton from tendonitis.

also, the clips are just better than the lakers, there's no need to go scorched earth to find culprits after a relatively close loss to one of the best teams in the nba. my main thought is that it took the heat--a team with guys in their prime--most of their first season to gets things clicking. not sure if it will happen for the lakers, but i'd caution against overreaction (except the west is so freaking tough they have to get it together really soon to make the postseason).

We got him more post touches...wasn't effective. He got pushed 15 feet off the block and/or continued to be passive with his touches. In the past 2 weeks, D'Antoni shortened Pau's early mins to have him replace Dwight at the 5 spot around the 3 min mark. Still not effective.

Fact is, Pau isn't going to get the lion's share of post touches because of the system, Dwight, and how effective the system has been for us. He has to contribute through effort and hustle...but that's not him whereas J Hill fills that role perfectly.

Mitch promised Nash the chance to play with Pau...that has been fulfilled. Time to move on.

this team has had some success recently. they did come back from a big deficit on the road to beat a good golden state team and also took care of the knicks on xmas day.

pau can clearly help the team, but something else that is overlooked is what magic talked about during halftime - the dependency on the 3pt shot. when its falling, the team looks good, when its not, quick transitions into easy buckets for the opponent. that is compounded with somebody like pau who has to keep up with a faster player running down the court after a 3pt attempt shanks....and that is all a part of dantoni's system.

the team is also making bad decisions on offense....its rare to see this team play effectively against a double team. they seem to rarely find the open guy or pass out of the double team in an effective manner.

The lakers have the sixth best offense in the NBA and the eighth best EFG%. They go to the FT line more than anyone, they make a lot of threes and they're good on the offensive glass. Other than Dwight missing FTs, they have no major issues on that side of the ball.

Their defense is the problem. The Lakers create no turnovers and let opponents get easy buckets. Blathering about Pau shooting threes or not fitting in is missing the real issue.

Just cut it out...

Magic, Jalen and the Sports Guy (he dumb too?) all said the same thing...And it wasn't as simple as "coach is not running the right offense"...All three admitted that this team can score...The issue is he doesn't make coaching changes on the fly...Sure you can have third and fourth tier players in your system making 3's...But what happens when they start missing shots and Kobe is forced to play hero ball? The coach just doesn't make adjustments on the court...He's too stubborn...

Their defense is the problem...So is the fact that they are old in key spots...And so is the fact that D'antoni is the wrong coach for this team...

Oh...and Magic has forgotten more about basketball than you will ever know in your lifetime...

yes, they make a lot of threes, but they also take a lot. they are middle of the pack when it comes to their 3 pt shooting percentage.

they are also league leaders in turnovers. lots of missed 3's + lots of turnovers are not a good recipe for a team that lacks speed in transition.

>and they're good on the offensive
>glass.

except they got badly out rebounded by the clippers, a team that is statistically worse than them at hitting the glass.

>Other than Dwight missing FTs, they have no major

cmon, really?

>Their defense is the problem. The Lakers create no turnovers

yeah, and the large amount of turnovers and missed 3's don't exactly help.

>Blathering about Pau
>shooting threes or not fitting in is missing the real issue.

its one of the issues, not the only one. i'm surprised that the biggest MVPAU advocate on the boards doesn't see how the team's struggles are linked to his.

they're sixth in offense. 21st in defense. you tell me what the priority is.

considering their rankings and point differential--which is about the same as golden state and the hawks--the lakers should be 19-13 by basketball-reference's methodology. the fact of the matter is that they're a decent team who has suffered injuries and plays in a tough conference. i don't know if they can recover to make the playoffs or not, but all this barking about pau on offense is missing the point.

lakers offense rating last night--against one of the best defensive teams in the NBA--was over 111. for a season, that would be third in the whole league behind OKC and the knicks. again, offense is not the problem, and anyone harping on it is being willfully obtuse.

i never said defense was not an issue. however, if you want to ignore their offensive issues, then you are being willfully obtuse as well.

why dont you watch the portland game and compare it to the one last night. how many horns sets did you see last night compared to the portland game? and don't tell me thats because of the clippers defense.

there is a way to run the offense so that it caters to the teams strengths. spreading the floor and passing the ball around the perimeter until dwight gets a good post opp is not good offense. good offense also leads to good defense.

a good coach will find ways to put his players in a position to succeed. the lakers are a dangerous team when pau, kobe, dwight and nash are playing to their strengths. dantoni has not found a consistent way to do this and thats on him.

>lakers offense rating last night--against one of the best

kobe is the main reason the offense still produces great stats. being overly reliant on kobe, at this stage in his career, is not going to win you games consistently against a good teams.

Why can't you just admit that Mike D is a one dimensional coach who can't break out of his formula?

We all know the Lakers are not at good as OKC, the Clips, San An or a healthy Memphis squad...

The issue is their defensive lapses (another shocker with a Mike D team) and what D'Antoni fails to do when given players that doesn't fit his "scheme"....

Kobe Bryant plans to talk with Mike D'Antoni on Saturday about Pau Gasol's struggles in the Lakers' offense.
Gasol's 2-point, 4-rebound performance against the Clippers on Friday had everyone in L.A. talking about Gasol's seemingly lost role in D'Antoni's offense. For his part, Gasol again reiterated he doesn't want to be traded, but even Kobe was openly critical of how D'Antoni is using the Spaniard. Given how stubborn D'Antoni can be when it comes to his system, this situation could blow up very soon.

Jack being out really hurts Golden State if its for a prolonged period

Jarrett Jack hurt his elbow while lifting weights Thursday and is unsure if he'll be able to play Saturday.
Jack apparently missed practice Friday with the ailment, making him questionable at best for Saturday's game against the Clippers. With high percentages and plenty of assists, Jack has become a must-own player this season. Owners will want to check back after shootaround Saturday, but we're guessing he'll be a game-time call.

despite MVPau's struggles last night, their offensive rating was 111, which would be third in the NBA if translated over an entire season. it's the fucking defense.

the perimeter defenders are slow and MVPau is no longer suited to guard mobile PFs (and is playing too far away from the basket to punish them on the other end). not sure what the solution is here.

Man...do you actually watch the games? Or do you continuously loop stats...Fuck offensive ratings...trust your eyes...

Everyone knows that the Lakers' defense is on the perimeter is poor...

But anyone watching the games also knows that this can be overcome by simply taking advantage of your own strengths offensively...In other words, the Lakers should be slowing the game down...They can cut down the amount of possessions another team can get...And more importantly they can cut down on the missed 3's that lead to fast breaks from the other teams...They can play muddy ball...And they can do that by playing inside out and letting Kobe and Nash run the flow...

But your favorite coach doesn't understand this because he has to stick to his formula...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

how about a better offensive philosophy that counters the team's defensive weakness, limiting leak outs, transition baskets, etc...
