I know you are playing but we need to keep Lance Louis, and Carimi, maybe moved to RG.

But yeah, at least two new olineman are a must. One needs to be a proven commodity, the other should be a draft pick.

Kellen Davis- worst tight end in football by a fucking mile
J'Marcus Webb- played better this year but needs to be a backup
Chris Spencer/Chilo Rachal/Roberto Garza- at least 2 of them gotta go

i mean, it doesn't. i'd keep brandon graham, either maclin or djax (but not both), avant, trent cole (still, even after this bs), and what's his face the kicker.

but, still, i think Shady and Fletcher are the only two must keeps on the current roster. Demeco old.

year left. i'll draft some depth behind him. but he is one of the very very few who earned his $$$$ on defense last year.

cox, no doubt.

so that's 2 on defense.

desean on offense. not too many players who force you to gameplan in the league. if i have a player (despite his limitations) who can dictate coverage, i'm keeping him. he needs a big body opposite him, though.

shady.

we up to 4.

peters. i know he's coming off achilles (2, actually). this is high risk/reward. but dude was THE best LT in football before he went down. i'll take that gamble and get depth / avg starter quality behind him.

so that's 5 ppl.

fuck maclin, tho. ole, i might catch it i might not ass ni&&a. i might play like a number 1, i might fade into bolivion ass ni&&a. at a decent contract he could do work as the #3 (make him a slot receiver in effect, but run him and desean out of twins a lot to put the secondary in a bind).

so we got 5 must keeps between offense and defense:

DEF: ryans, cox
OFF: shady, djax, peters

next tier are the folks who are above nfl avg and justify a good salary, but that you aren't really building a team around at this point. solid pieces you'd like to keep that are better than most alternatives in the league or that you're likely to pick up w/o drafting high:

DEF: graham, cole, kendricks, boykin, thornton.

graham is young and coming into his own. he was legitimately good this year. might be a flash in the pan, but he had lots of potential coming in from the draft so i'm inclined to believe he's sustainable.

kendricks wasn't as good as he could have been and showed flashes. wildly inconsistent. i think our LB coaching and overall def coaching was so ass that it retarded his development. if his ceiling is a michael boley type, i'm good w/ that.

boykin actually played VERY well as a slot corner, rookie or no. was not out of position much. and got *barely* beaten for most completions on him (ie, he was draped over a guy and the qb and receiver just executed very well). he's the only secondary guy that really needs to come back.

thornton is a value dude. you still can upgrade the other DT position opposite cox, but you don't *have* too. and that's key, since we have to replace an entire secondary.

OFF:

vick. not at no 15 mil. if he doesn't renegotiate, it may be a moot point. is he the game changer that can win, by himself, like he used to be able to? nope. but in a sane offense tailored to his strengths, and with a half decent OL, his arm gives you a chance to do things that are still very rare in football. i think he's also a complimentary piece to get the value out of desean. djax game is NOT catching (consistently) stuff underneath and turning them into long games. his game is getting over the top of coverage, opening up the intermediate stuff, as well as catching hitches and quick outs, and scooting up the sidelines. if the eagles don't get a guy w/ a big arm, desean will only get the ball on schemes. the qb's who have middling arms, but who just loft the ball downfield have big receivers who use their body position to out leap and out muscle defenders to get the ball. desean is not that dude. you better put the ball out in front of him, and you better have an arm to do that. won't be anyone with an arm like that on the FA or trade market (sanchize? alex smith? psssh). put vick in a system where he doesn't have to be perfect just to get a completion and he is a better option than anyone realistically available. and that doesn't count his running.

evan mathis. his value was inflated by peters, but he is by far the best of the other linemen. he can move people off the line, protect in the passing game, as well as do mobile stuff. so that makes him attractive for whatever brand of offense the new coach brings in.

bryce brown - even despite the fumbles. dude basically completed his freshman year in the nfl. more work and reps can get him to nfl-level fundamentals as an rb. he's a good weapon, and insurance for shady. needs to improve in pass pro.

kelce - i'm iffy on this one. i think the eagles got sold a bill of goods on mudd's scheme. i personally don't give a fuck if a center can pull and lead on a sweep and block cornerbacks. i'd like the center to be able to anchor in the middle and move a DT off the line when we need a yard so we don't have to run triple dipple reverses in short yardage. i'm funny that way. like peters, he has a question mark b/c he's coming off a major injury. maybe moreso because the main part of his game is his athleticism.

celek? i'm iffy on celek. dude has funks every year where he makes a bunch of drops. i wonder about how much wear and tear has taken on him. he's definitely a dude you want to upgrade. we need a field stretching, matchup problem causing TE. but the teams that have those got them b/c they had the luxury at the other offensive positions to take flyers on the bball type guys. so i won't let great be the enemy of good here. celek's blocking has improved, he should be aight for the short term. he doesn't win, one on one, as much vs. LBs and S's as he used to, though. he's definitely not someone i'd be trying to get rid of, though, and i think he could be a very serviceable part of the offense, especially if the O makes better use of the other skill players.

fuck the rest of the OL. stay, go, whatever.

my thoughts exactly. i'd keep desean over maclin. i like maclin, but he's a pretty standard above average #2 receiver in output, if not in style of play. ideally, i want my number 2 to be a big possession guy, unless the number one is one of the physical freak types like Megatron or T.O. But, yeah, Maclin drops too much and gives up on too much for me to trust as any kind of possession receiver.

yeah, the potential is staggering (cue Will laughing at us). give him 75 percent of the carries in the preseason, just to get him reps.

>celek?

i'm not even going to read what you wrote about celek, because he's just so slightly above average. he's fine, but keeping him won't make us a winner. he's not a difference maker.

love his heart, he's fun to watch when he's on but c'mon. He's destined for being a backup/spot-starter for a decent team or a starter for a bad one from here on out.

Oddly enough I actually thought a run-oriented attack with KC's roster would have been a best-case fit for Vick in terms of places to end up.

However, they just picked up Andy Reid so either those two get on some mutually-assured destruction shit out there or he heads elsewhere (Zona? Oakland?).

hard to see any 'good team' opportunities out there for him.

offhand, who's out there? (aside from the aforementioned cards).

- bills? they'd need a serious turnaround to be contenders.
- jets? serious turnaround, new coach would be needed

he could do damage on the vikes handing off to AP and throwing play action, if they can get a good WR.
>
>Oddly enough I actually thought a run-oriented attack with

yep. that would have been good.

if chip kelly goes to the eagles, tho. that offense relentlessly fast paced, and run to set up the pass and spread the entire field? he could beast in that shit.

much better than foles would. if he restructured and just started for a year or two and let them draft a young cat to groom, and see what it do, that would be good. but i think vick would rather bounce than give a discount to philly.

he's still good enough to start somewhere. problem is he's good enough to start on bad somewheres. he'll either have to be part of some improbable turnaround on a fucked up squad or... hey. i haven't mentioned the raiders yet.

that would be perfect. assuming dmc is healthy, did they can their coach? they at least got rid of knapp as OC. w/ the right OC, THAT could be a good spot. NFC West used to be bad, but its on the come up.

I actually agree that would be the kind of thing he could excel in, however I think he's almost certainly being cut before that next kicker comes in.

The Eagles retaining Howie Roseman while all the sudden blame-shifting & giving him credit only for this year's relative draft success with no culpability for the picks they bragged about him making (Graham, Watkins, Jarrett) in the 2010 & 2011 drafts along with their hinting at wanting to build around this PopGun-Armed-Napolean-Dynamite-Ass dude who's lost everywhere he's been has me completely pessimistic about them having any success in the next three years.

Chip Kelly would at least have enough clout to come in & say 'look, this bitch was the fifth best guy in my conference when he was in school, FOH'.

I'm fine with Foles being here if we're rebuilding & letting him compete for the job rather than going to find a stopgap Alex Smith type in a trade, however I don't in any way wanna pretend I'm building for the future with him like it's a given.

if he restructured and just

yeah, I mentioned the Raiders above.

And honestly I can't even remember the name of that dude who coached the Raiders this year but I'm pretty sure he still has a job.

Reggie McKenzie prolly doesn't wanna kick out his first coaching hire only a year after he canned Hue off an 8-8 season.

They won't give up on him since he was a first pick they moved up to get. But trading him for a 2nd day pick to a team like the rams would be a win-win for both teams. We add a pick and he gets to play pitch and catch with bradford.

I want nothing to do with re-signing Jeremy Maclin, I never liked the pairing of him & Desean from a size perspective to begin with but Maclin has been a diminishing return and doesn't leave an imprint on the game at the level Desean does despite decent numbers.

Brandon Tate as a return man.

Why he hasn't been replaced full time with Pacman yet, I will never know or understand.

first off agreed with Tate, dude is pitiful.

But the only time Pacman is back there is when its a three and out which is why. With this being playoff time, unless a team goes on a 20 play drive Jones should be out there all the time. Plus if Jason Allen stepped up or if Kirkpatrick would've been healthy I think you would've seen more of him returning

I think Artrell Hawkins said it best about Tate: "As fans, when you see Tate back there, you just let out a sad sigh"

Back to DBs... I agree that if everyone was healthy (read: Kirkpatrick, damn, I hope he's not injury prone), Pacman would have been THE return man all year. The DBs have been very hit or miss though this year, even Leon Hall has left much to be desired IMO.

I think this is just an unlucky season for him. But it would have been awesome to have five rooks who produced big for them (Burfict, Jones, Sanu and Zeitler, who I see multiple pro bowls from in his career).

I'll give Hall a pass for this year (based on the Eagles and Steelers game, lol) due to last year's injury. But with three picks in the first two rounds, I see two DBs (SS and CB) and a RB being taken.

my cuts:

Kevin Ogletree, Keving Ogletree, and Kevin Ogletree

Dan Connor (he's basically a poor man's Keith Brooking)

Marcus Spears

Regarding Miles, I say as long as we develop depth with these
young guys like Harris and Beasley, we can still use his services.
I mean he almost hit 1k yards this year while hobbling around
all season.

I know you hate Mike Jenkins with a passion, but I don't think he
did much this year to command a big contract. If we can keep him
as a 3rd or 4th corner at a cheap price, I like him in that role.

I like Jay, but I think he and Jerry had a falling out and his
leaving anyway.

In response to Reply # 0
Wed Jan-02-13 12:51 PM by Jayson Willyams

On Defense:
Kyle VandenBosch
Cliff Avril

KVB might have been the worst every-down starter in the league this year. ProFootballFocus does their "These players sucked terribly on Sunday" list every week, and KVB was in at least 12 of them. A total non-factor, he can be eliminated from a play with so little effort the LT can usually help on someone else when he's done. I spotted two or three plays a game where even a replacement-level DE would have notched a sack or strip or SOMETHING.

Avril has one move, and that's "run upfield as fast as possible, and hope the QB does a blind rollout into my arms." Fucking garbage player. Suh and Fairley were terrific this year--neither one of these DEs saw a double team all season long. But neither one could do a fucking thing with single-man blocking and a collapsed pocket. JJ Watt would have 45 sacks next to Suh and Fairley. With our secondary shredded by injuries, it was up to our beaucoup-bucks D-line to save them. These two assholes tanked the fucking season, as far as I'm concerned.

On Offense, from left to right:
Jeff Backus
Dominic Raiola
Stephen Peterman

The holy trinity of shit O-linemen. Raiola is the worst of them. Hands-down, the stupidest 10-year vet I've ever had the displeasure of watching. His "gaffe" in Tennessee was one of the more unbelievable things I've ever seen in an NFL game.

"Hey Dom, all you have to do is not snap the ball, and there's a damn good chance we win this game."

::snaps the ball::

He gets blasted 3 yards off the line on nearly every running play. You all saw what Jadaveon Clowney did to Vincent Smith yesterday? That's every Lions running play. D-linemen get to the carrier about 0.001 seconds after the ball does. He's an embarrassment. Backus and Peterman, I don't even have enough juice left to write about. I'll say this--is they see an opportunity to cripple the team's chances with a critical false start or holding call, they'll take it 100% of the time. They're consistent, at least.

Of course, I'm assuming that Stefan Logan and Titus Young have played themselves out of Detroit. If either one returns, then he instantly grabs the #1 spot. Young will catch more heat, but I'm convinced no one player did more to sink this Lions season than Stefan Logan. I wish I could set this in italics, but I can't, so it gets it's own line:

Every single time he made a decision, it was the wrong one.

Simple as that. If a fair catch was the right call, he tried to run it back. If he should have let it bounce over his head, he caught it. He had to lead the league in kickoff returns that he fielded 7 yards deep in the endzone, ran back, and failed to get to the 20. Just fucked up every single time he was given the opportunity to fuck up...which was every single time. Fuck you, Schwartz.

Brandon Pettigrew...fuck you. You belong on this list. You run like you're in mud, you drop 2 absolutely critical passes a game, and you added the awesome new wrinkle this year of letting 190lb DBs rip the football from your hands when simply falling down would have literally won us a game. He is on the hook for the Tennessee and Houston losses this year, as much as the more obvious assholes (Raiola in TN, Schwartz vs HOU). But goddammit, as terrible as you are, this offense needs you on the field--the last 4 weeks have proven that.

although Walker is much more valuable outside his receiving skills so I'm not sure I agree with him... but T. Brown though? Even if you wanted Culliver to start you wouldn't want Brown as your nickle back?

the right answer.... I'm just not comfortable we can adequately replace Akers right now... I mean Cundiff missed a chip shot to send his team to the super bowl.

I am assuming you mean starters.

RB Rashard Mendenhall (Wore out his welcome, never used right, and had to play behind a shitty line the whole time he was here, this one is mutual)

NT Casey Hampton (It's time, and he will be hard as fuck to replace)

LB LaMarr Woodley (Comes to camp out of shape every year and as he gets older he can't stay healthy worth a fuck, I'd rather have Harrison playing hurt at 35 years old than watch Woodley)

WR Mike Wallace (Dude dropped a ton of passes this year and cant do shit else except run go routes. Some team will overpay the shit out of him and he'll go on to have a Joey Galloway type career which isn't that bad but not worth the money he wants)

OT Max Starks (He was never a great tackle but he looked really mediocre at times this year. Mike Adams and Marcus Gilbert will each get a shot at this job next season)

unnecessary since we already had Asante & had just gotten DRC in a trade but who's gonna argue with getting richer at what had been a clear area of weakness outside Samuel?

Speaking of Samuel, it always annoyed me how they made him instantly expendable when the reality is he & Jon Runyan are probably the only major free-agent signings to truly produce to their contracts in the Reid era.

That dude's still in ATL making more picks in a game than Nnamdi has in two years.

known as nate clements.

so if nnamdi woulda crossed the bay and signed with SF, pretty sure there woulda been a parade down market st. for him at the time.

he's not a very stout guy at MLB but he has great instincts and most importantly makes tackles which is more than what can be said about a lot of the guys

I understand the PSYCHOLOGICAL reasons for having a Urlacher Bowman or Ray Lewis type at MLB but if he gets the job done that's all I care about

At this point Cooley is a part time FB.

More urgent is the entire secondary, IMO.

You could keep Josh Wilson OR Deangelo "15 yard personal foul" Hall, but not both.

easily the worst starting safety in the NFL...

other than that...

we actually pretty cool.... I mean obviously Richardson our RT would be replaced....

Probably replace our other Dahl on the offensive line...hasn't really been worth the money..

I'd replace Brandon Gibson...he's been our most consistent wide out..but we can still up grade there...

probably replace Lance Kendricks...made some big plays down the stretch but still inconsistent..think we can upgrade at TE

there are players who could be upgraded (Wendell, Chung, Branch, Love), but they're still solid. adding Talib helped immensely.
