loved hearing about SC blowing off the bowl dinner and shitting on the city of el paso via twitter like they were above it all...

and then getting their shit kicked in on the field. SC obnoxiousness at its finest.

I'm looking forward to watching the losses pile up under the Kiffin/Wittek combo. There will be so many more memorable moments, I can barely contain myself.

They're gonna get crushed next year in the PAC.

Over the last decade than this years SC squad? I am sure someone has but I can't think of one right now. To go from preseason number 1 to spending New Year's Eve in El Paso and losing to a bad GT is just awful.

SI had them as preseason #1, the AP poll had them as preseason #4, but they got blown the fuck out by Penn State 41-7 in the Kickoff Classic, and finished 6-6, losing their last 3 in a row.

Coming off of an SEC title ranked #3 in the preseason
only to end up 3-8 or 3-9. Epic implosion.

the season they lost to Jaquiz Rogers and Oregon state..... that season people were saying that SC defense was it's best defense ever..

then a Rogers busted them out on national tv with all his yards coming up the guy in between the tackles...

after that SC folk denied they were making those best ever claims..

watch how they'll deny that anyone thought this team was gonna be good....

I was in the car 1 saturday morning when the season first started and there was a radio show out here talking about which team....the Lakers or SC had the best footing as the best team ever in their respective sports...

lolololol...

first preseason number one to lose six games in 62 years. first preseason number one to finish unranked in 48 years. recorded the school's worst defensive performance out of 1,146 games.

their final loss coming against a team that was under .500 entering the postseason -- and who'd lost seven straight bowl games -- was the perfect capper.

Feels like he never got the credit e deserved/s

As a college coach he is in that Urb/Saban category to me, if not then very close. I hate how style gets too much credit, just because he's not about "process" and seemed like he has fun and was more of a player coach his accomplishments get downplayed. As if you have to have a permanent pained, "I'm really working hard and my life is ruined because of it" look you aren't a beast at your craft.

Also Pete's proven he's a great coach period. He's doing big things in Seattle. Everyone jokes about his failure in NE: one season at 6-10 is hardly an indictment.

I fux with Pete, hard. kiff is a joke

For all the talent he stockpiled, he should have won at least 2 championships but they always stumbled against some far inferior team

Carroll is in the same class as , Les Miles, Tressel, Stoops and Mack Brown IMO

(great coaches who also had disappointing losses on the big stage from time to time )

Urban and Saban are in a league of their own.

part of it had to do with the Byron Moore Jr. situation...B had verballed to Neiuheisel and UCLA ...then signed with SC....but left after his first meeting with Kiffin and has been starting at Tennessee the last 2 years...

but even beyond that....I mean I've been on the sidelines for all of our games for the last 5 years...plus all the recruiters who come here go through me.... Not only was UCLA ignoring us...they were ignoring City players all together...and they suffered the consequences for that...

that has changed for sure....this new staff is working the ground in the city, and they are on the come up because of it.

this guy has a history of breeding an environment that has people beefing with each other....burned bridges when he leaves...you can't recruit when these kids parents know the history..then the way this season ended for them.

this was the year to make the move. Jack Del Rio would have taken the job..he would still take the job. He won't be around for it next year because after this rash of offensive guys getting hc jobs in the Nfl.....once the Broncos D has another solid year...Del Rio will get another HC job...

Lackluster Hyundai Sun Bowl performance leaves USC program at a loss
Updated: January 2, 2013, 10:21 AM ET
By Steve Bisheff | WeAreSC
http://insider.espn.go.com/colleges/usc/football/story/_/id/8801729/usc-trojans-crossroads-disappointing-sun-bowl-season

The difficult part now isn't looking back. It is looking ahead.

If you are a USC football fan today, how can you be excited? How can you look forward to 2013 when the tattered remains of 2012 can still be seen, blowing in the sad aftermath of those gusty winds in the Sun Bowl?

Unless Athletic Director Pat Haden has a sudden change of heart, what you saw in El Paso is what you're likely to get back in L.A. -- a once-proud program in sad disarray.
Lane Kiffin said he was "very surprised" at how poorly his team performed in that 21-7 nightmare. He shouldn't have been. This coach and his players have underperformed all season long. The only history they made was the wrong kind, becoming the first preseason ranked No. 1 team to finish out of the AP rankings since 1964.

These Trojans spent the last day of the year the same way they spent all their previous days, looking unemotional and unprepared. The real rambling wrecks turned out to be from USC, not Georgia Tech, making Monday no different from all those previous Saturdays.

So, you have to wonder now, how does it get turned around? Kiffin says he will evaluate everything. Great. He had a full month to evaluate what he should change to get ready for his first bowl game at USC, and we all saw how that turned out.

The coach says he will just go out and "recruit the No. 1 class in America." That sounds good, too, but three members from what appeared to be a great class already have decommitted, and you can't help but wonder, after they watched that debacle from El Paso, how many more might follow in the next few weeks.

The poster boy for everything bad that happened in Texas was Max Wittek. The redshirt freshman quarterback, who flashed some potential in his first start against Notre Dame, was simply awful this time. He was wild, erratic and flustered -- not a good combination.

But about halfway through the game, you started to feel sorry for him. He looked lost and confused, and, at least on television, it appeared that Kiffin never tried to console or soothe him, or offer any sort of attempted encouragement.

That's the thing with this coach, though. As long as he insists on calling the plays, he remains isolated from the players and, in turn, any emotional connection is lost. It is hard to be there for the kids when your eyes never leave your play chart.

Now that he'll be forced to look up, though, he has to wonder what becomes of the Trojans' quarterback situation for the future. Wittek will be listed as the frontrunner, but his stay at the position might prove as short as Aaron Corp's was a couple of years ago.

It wouldn't surprise me now if the job was Max Browne's to lose. The Gatorade National Player of the Year from Washington, Browne will be enrolling in time for spring practice. He has the size, the arm and, from all accounts, the poise to come right in and take over. But he will still be a true freshman, and no matter how talented he is, it is extremely difficult to learn quick enough to play effectively right away at this level.

Whatever happens at quarterback, that's just part of the puzzle. A new defensive coordinator will be hired, but there is no guarantee the Trojans will be able to defend the spread offense any better than they have.

Really, though, the problems run much deeper. This is more about the overall culture of the program. An inferior team beat USC up on both sides of the line of scrimmage in Texas, something that happened far too often throughout 2012.
Under Kiffin, the physicality has been lost. This is a team that used to pride itself on being stronger and tougher than the other guys. Not anymore.

Now the opposition routinely overpowers the Trojans physically. The way Stanford did. The way Notre Dame did. The way even a mediocre Georgia Tech did.

The people who think Haden doesn't see this are wrong. I've been around him enough to know he understands what is happening. He played for John McKay and is acutely aware of the history and tradition associated with the program.

He didn't hire Kiffin, but he admires the coach's work ethic and seems reluctant to do anything that might affect the strong recruiting pipeline he has developed. Of course, whether those recruits can be coached any better than the current players remains to be seen.

In the meantime, my advice to all those suffering Trojans fans is to look up young Browne's eye-popping high school highlights on YouTube.

At this point, it might be the only thing capable of getting them even a little excited.

31. "USC players brawl after losing their bowl game"
In response to Reply # 0

lol I'm gonna have so much fun upping this post as SC crashes and burns next season....

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/college-football/story/_/id/8849887/usc-trojans-scuffle-following-bowl-defeat-sources-say

A "flat-out brawl" broke out in USC's football locker room after the Trojans' 21-7 loss to Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl, multiple sources have told ESPN.

The altercation, earlier reported by the Los Angeles Daily News, began when one of the team's younger players was "bad-mouthing Matt Barkley." The player questioned why the quarterback did not play and challenged USC's collective senior leadership.

Barkley, in speaking with ESPN's "The Herd With Colin Cowherd," said that "tempers flared" but that no punches were thrown.

"I would say tempers flared, yeah, but that's football," Barkley said. "It's an emotional game and when you end your season on a negative note like that, emotions are going to be high. Guys were expressing their opinions, for better or worse, but we had it under control it was nothing to be alarmed about."

"If you ask some of the guys who were there what happened they'll negate those claims about people throwing punches and all that stuff or whatever was said," Barkley said. "Obviously in the locker room after that game, which was a loss, there's gonna be words exchanged. People weren't in the best mood but that wasn't to say we were fighting each other or there was an altercation."

Several other upperclassmen, including senior safety T.J. McDonald, came to Barkley's defense, the sources said. A security guard confirmed only that "tempers flared," but other sources told ESPN that "it was haymakers."

"People were upset, I think the leadership was there, if you saw the leaders step up in the locker room," Barkley said. "T.J. McDonald, Khaled Holmes, myself, we stepped up when we had to and handled the situation in an appropriate way when other people weren't."

According to the Daily News, freshman offensive tackle Zach Banner would not discuss the incident but did say, "It's going to be a whole new family atmosphere next season and you can quote me on that. For the seniors, it's terrible."

Coach Lane Kiffin could not be reached for comment by the Daily News.

Barkley, a one-time Heisman Trophy contender, did not play in the bowl game because of an injury to his shoulder. He was ruled out by the team's medical staff and previously missed USC's regular-season finale against Notre Dame after suffering the injury in the Nov. 17 game vs. UCLA.

Barkley's absence was one thread in a season full of disappointment for USC. The Trojans were the top-ranked team in the preseason but struggled mightily, finishing 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the Pac-12. Several players in USC's 2013 recruiting class -- ranked No. 6 by ESPN.com after once being ranked No. 1 -- also decommitted, including Max Redfield, the No. 2 athlete in the ESPN 150, wide receivers Eldridge Massington and Sebastian LaRue, and defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes, ranked No. 10 in the ESPN 150.

scholarship-restriction seasons but if he can't even keep the dudes he's got & the dumpster-fire of a season even behind the scenes is continuing to be laid out publically, then letting him hang around when we all know he's not gonna last is actually far more dangerous.

and as far us assuming jack del rio would be a willing candidate...perhaps that's just a very bad assumption?

does an established coach want shit his resume up with some potentially very mediocre seasons? del rio/any other name coach could just wait it out and the same job would be available 2 years down the road.

5 decommits already...looks like Ogeron's deal with the devil may be in limbo. I don't see the point of waiting another year when none of the signs point toward USC's standard of national contention. Hit the reset on the HC spot.
