-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

perhaps, Harbaugh's decision is also based on Kaepernic outperforming
or equaling Alex in practice. but based on what I've seen, Kap is still too raw

Smith went 18-19 in his last start for 3 TDs on the road against AZ--one of the best
defenses in the league. he was 7-8 before getting injured in the Rams game

I just don't see how it makes sense, even emotionally, the team had
rallied around Alex, defending him against the critics. if he didn't
lose the job, then why isn't he playing?

that shoulda been the post title.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

My position this whole time was not to overreact to a single game from a 2nd year QB. What I was advocating was sticking with Smith, who has been very successful both this year and last, for the rest of the season. If we don't make the Super Bowl again, fine, cut his contract and move on with Kaep.

The problem with starting Kaep now is that if we lose in the playoffs... then what? Then that thought of "what if they had just stuck with Alex?" will be on everyone's lips. If you've got an extremely efficient QB with a dominant defense that is far more palatable than an unproven, albeit exciting, inexperienced QB.

So please... tell me where I've been "mad wrong". I can show you the very first post where I laid out this exact position, yet you keep on running your mouth about how "wrong" I am and can't even articulate what exactly it is I'm wrong about.

Please. I'd love for you to show me where I'm wrong, but to tell you the truth I fully expect another 5th grade rebuttal, talking about how I'm a poopyhead and my face is ugly.

Correction: kaep is starting. The decision is not health related. We may have seen Alex Smiths last start as a 49er

Your sentiment throughout the entire post was that kaep would not get the nod and that I was overreacting after one game. Well, so is harbaugh apparently. Like I knew he probably would

The funny thing is Alex isn't even cleared to play yet, but you're still so quick to pop your collar.

The reason I don't want Kaep to start for the rest of the season is because teams don't have film on him yet. They can't break down his tendencies, his reads, when he scrambles, when he looks long, etc. That sort of dissection only comes after several games' worth of film. Alex has been extremely efficient this year AND teams have a whole seasons' worth of film on him from last year.

So again.. stop avoiding my direct questions to you... I will reiterate yet again:

I'm all about my team winning. Why the fuck would I wager on the inner dealings of my team, putting myself in a position where I could have motives to root for certain things to happen that may be counter productive to my team winning?

I want Kaep to start, and I'm loling at those of you who were so sure that he wouldn't. BUT

If Alex gets the job back and balls his ass off and kaep gets ass splinters...I will be infinitely happy and I'm not paying you any money for that.

It's funny that you weak ass bitches even got all emo over semantics in the first place. A nigga says "team Alex or team Kaep" ...which really only means who would you rather see start, and you pussies lose your mind.

. Kaep starting. And you a bitch

I don't have an Alex Smith agenda, I have a "hope my team wins" agenda. If Kaep balls the hell out and we win it all, then fucking GREAT.

But YOU'RE the one that first drew lines in the sand with all that "Team Kaep" or "Team Smith" bullshit. That doesn't sound like "I'm all about my team winning" at all, it just sounds like you found a reason to shit on Alex.

I've been saying this shit since I first commented on this in the 49ers/Bears game post... what happens when teams get film on Kaep? Especially in the playoffs, when the stakes are magnified, the teams are better and every little thing gets dissected 10x more? Kaep looked great against a Bears defense that had no idea how to defend him... like I said in post #73, they DARED Kaep to throw and this was the most single coverage Davis has seen all year. You think that's going to continue going forward? You think teams aren't going to pick out when and where he scrambles, checks down, which receivers he favors, etc.?

The reason why I want to stick with Alex **for this year** is because Alex is playing this efficiently even with a seasons' worth of film on him under Harbaugh. He's playing well DESPITE defenses knowing his tendencies (the safe game plan accentuates that, but mistake-free football is when this team is unstoppable).

The reason why I'm calling you out to put your money where your mouth is is because you're the one that said "some niggas who gotta eat words right now" and calling me out because I want the best fucking situation for my team. And when I called you out on what "words I gotta eat" you cysed your position saying "Alex is done". What kinda dumb "I support my team but not when it contradicts my agenda" shit is that?

This is that dumb drawing lines in the sand shit again. This isn't an Eagles or Jets situation where the starter is CLEARLY playing like shit. Alex had one bad game, and that was to the SUPER BOWL CHAMPS... a team with a notoriously stiff defensive line that gave both Rodgers and Brady fits when they BEAT THEM IN THE PLAYOFFS. Other than that though? You take out that one game and Alex has two picks in ten games. Does that sound like a QB that needs to be replaced?

> t's funny that you weak ass bitches even got all emo over semantics in the first place. A nigga says "team Alex or team Kaep" ...which really only means who would you rather see start, and you pussies lose your mind.

Right. I made my case for why Alex **should** start and you're trying to crow about how I gotta "eat my words" because he's not. No, you fucking idiot. Unlike you, I *actually* want whats best for my team.

>How is asking who you would rather have start shitting on
>Alex?

Because of all your replies after that... calling me out as a "hoe" and I gotta "eat my words". It shows that you cared more about cysing Kaep than what's best for the team.

>Does this mean they absolutely are going to stop him? Of
>course not. Kaep is going to suck once teams get film on him?
>Is that what you're saying?

No of course not... cot damn, get some fucking reading comprehension skills. If we win it all, GREAT. Harbaugh's a genius and this kid is really something special. But you're pushing this kid after ONE game. Look at some of the recent dudes that caked after coming in for starters... Cassel got a major contract and is now one of the shittiest QB's in the league. Flynn got a major contract but got bumped for a rookie. I'm not saying Kaep's on their level, but you can't claim that Kaep is automatically better than an extremely efficient Smith after ONE game. The film argument comes into play because in the PLAYOFFS is when a player's weaknesses are magnified.

>Who is to say the more talented kaepernick won't do the same?
>You just want to play it safe?

Of course he's more talented... but talent alone doesn't win games. There's a lot of talented players in the league that flame out for one reason or another (see: a zillion QB's drafted in the 1st round).

And yes, I do want to play it safe. Playing it safe is what got us to within an inch of the Super Bowl, and was ultimately lost through no fault of Alex. You play it safe when you have a dominant running game and a dominant defense like we do.

>You are saying this under the assumption that Alex starting is
>what's best for our team, btw so ill dismiss this altogether

Dismiss what? That you're popping your collar and being a prick for wanting what's best for the team? This is why I seriously question if you're actually a fan of the team. Instead of "I see your point, but I'm glad Kaep is starting" you're calling people "hoes" that "gotta eat words". Again, what kinda dumb shit is that? I'm a hoe because I want what's best for my team?

Yeah, fuck you. You're the type of kneejerk bandwagon fan that every real fan hates talking sports with.

>If there is a possibility that we have a better qb on our team
>I want that possibility explored.

Yeah, that's fine... when the timing is appropriate. Not in the middle of a major playoff run with a QB third in QB rating and completing 70% of his passes.

>Again, under the assumption that Alex is what's best

How about let's just compare their body of work?

Alex Smith: 19-5 under Harbaugh, won a playoff game against the Saints and was a hair away from the Super Bowl

Colin Kaepernick: 1-0, 2nd year QB

There are no assumptions here in saying Alex is the best QB for the team *right now*, because his body of work bears it out. You're making the bigger assumption in saying Kaep is the best QB for the team *right now* after ONE GAME.

Im not claiming that he's better. What im saying is that the unknown potential is that intriguing.

>you're calling people "hoes" that "gotta eat words". Again,
>what kinda dumb shit is that? I'm a hoe because I want what's

No, you are a hoe because you were so insistent that alex would start but he isn't. You question whether or not im a fan? I dont give a fuck what you question bitch you dont know me.

>Yeah, fuck you. You're the type of kneejerk bandwagon fan

Oh, ok..bandwagon fan...right.

>Yeah, that's fine... when the timing is appropriate. Not in

Thats one side of the story..the other side is we go down 10 points and we are down with alex smith at quarterback.

>>Again, under the assumption that Alex is what's best
>
>How about let's just compare their body of work?

That doesnt make Alex better. Have some respect for the prospect of the unknown and great potential

>Alex Smith: 19-5 under Harbaugh, won a playoff game against
>the Saints and was a hair away from the Super Bowl
>
>Colin Kaepernick: 1-0, 2nd year QB

>There are no assumptions here in saying Alex is the best QB
>for the team *right now*, because his body of work bears it
>out. You're making the bigger assumption in saying Kaep is
>the best QB for the team *right now* after ONE GAME.

Thats not what im saying. All I have been saying is that I want to see Kaep start because his potential is greater than Alex's and its certainly not out of the realm of possibility that Kaep is better.

>sigh... Wanting Kaep to start means that I don't want whats best for the team aka you think Alex is better than Kaep...ok gotcha.

Lol, look at you softening your stance. Like FortifiedLive said in the Niners post, you're out here trying to get imaginary W's and hand out imaginary L's.

What happened to all the "hoe" talk and "niggas gotta eat their words"?

> Im not claiming that he's better. What im saying is that the unknown potential is that intriguing.

BULLSHIT. EVERYONE is saying Kaep is a great prospect, you're not special in saying that.

And you mention "unknown potential"... what about unknown disaster? We don't know what we have in Kaep, we can agree on that right? We haven't seen a bad game from him because we've only seen ONE GAME from him. If the Niners were some young team that's fighting and scratching to make the playoffs then fine, let's start Kaep.

But we're not. We're expected to do well because we know what kind of team we have... EXCEPT Kaepernick. Fuck unknown potential if it means he makes a risky throw with 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter of a playoff game. But we KNOW that Alex plays it safe. He's not prone to make mistakes that puts the team at risk. THIS is what we need right now with the team we have.

> No, you are a hoe because you were so insistent that alex would start but he isn't. You question whether or not im a fan? I dont give a fuck what you question bitch you dont know me.

BULLSHIT. What kinda dumb shit is that? I'm a hoe because I want our starting QB to start, and not to turn over the keys to a 2nd year QB? Yeah, fuck you. You ARE the worst kind of fan. Like Crash85 said in the Niners thread... who the fuck trolls their own team?

> Oh, ok..bandwagon fan...right.

Yup. Add reactionary and terrible logic to that, because you clearly don't understand football.

> Thats one side of the story..the other side is we go down 10 points and we are down with alex smith at quarterback.

Oh, like this game when we were down 20 points then scored 21 unanswered to win the game?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20111002021

Or this game when we were down 3 points with 1:37 left to play... oh right, it was IN THE PLAYOFFS

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/boxscore?gid=20120114025

Oh wait, is this the same Alex Smith that led us to 6 4th Qtr/Game Winning Drives last year? Tying Montana's record for four on the road? That Alex Smith?

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/comeback.cgi?player=SmitAl03

Cot damn you're fucking retarded. Do you even watch the games? Did you start watching this year after the big run last year?

> That doesnt make Alex better. Have some respect for the prospect of the unknown and great potential

What the fuck does this even mean? Could you explain? I would LOVE to see this (and pick it apart).

> Thats not what im saying. All I have been saying is that I want to see Kaep start because his potential is greater than Alex's and its certainly not out of the realm of possibility that Kaep is better.

BULLSHIT. EVERYONE is saying that Kaep's potential and talent is better than Alex, including me. No one's saying Alex is more talented, NO ONE.

You're so incredibly full of shit. Please keep arguing with me, because it's making you look worse and worse.

it's literally getting exhausting going through this shit with knuckleheads who actually think we care more about alex smith's RICH ASS emotional state than we do the success of the team.

I said initially that Alex can not bring us from deficits, and that was wrong based on last season.

This season we are 0-2 in games that we have trailed when Alex was playing.

I'm not even sure what the argument is anymore.

Some cats want to play it safe with Alex smith whom we know his ceiling as well as his limitations.

Some cats are risk takers and want to see what's behind the high risk, high reward door number 2. Me and as of today, Jim Harbaugh are of this group.

Let it be what it is.

I understand why it makes sense to want Alex and I don't have a problem with that. I do have a problem with the stance that its stupid to start kaepernick...because it isn't. It is never stupid to play the more talented guy on the field. That's life.

Now I'll let the nit picking continue

And LOL at trying to use the "can't come from behind" argument. You don't know the Niners worth shit.

You were probably rooting for the Packers last year and jumped ship when they got rocked by the Giants.

Get the fuck outta here, we don't your kind rooting for the Niners.

its an L on the boards for people that defended smith tirelessly, but for niner fans who just want to win, they don't care who's qbing as long as the niners win.

It's an L when you defend the quarterback of your team??

hmm... Thats interesting...

Whats Smith's record over the past season and half??

Niner fans want to win... They've been winning with Smith... You understand why fans defend him??

Kaep is now the starter... GO KAEP!

EDIT: I'm ashamed I even participated in this post...

you must be talking about 49er fans, who else would even give a shit about him. why y'all try to rewrite this narrative is astounding. the only "defense" was that his coaching was SHIT save for one norv turner year, until harbaugh showed up. no one said he was going to canton, that he was a perennial pro bowler, they said more than anything that singletary was a REALLY REALLY bad coach.

he PROVED he was not a garbage QB, no matter how much y'all have adjusted your goal posts. so that victory, as modest as it was to accomplish, is signed and sealed.

the ONLY thing Niners fans have ever claimed is that Alex is a good QB (what that entire "come get your L" post was all about 'til the haters spun it)

the ONLY thing we ever said about this "controversy" was that we felt Alex deserves to start and that Kap is the future.

if Kap stays the starting QB and keeps winning, shit's all good. but yall just wanna hand out imaginary Ls even if our team wins.

After ESPN half-heartedly disputed his report, SI's Jim Trotter reiterated late Wednesday that Alex Smith has been informed by 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh of his demotion in favor of Colin Kaepernick.
Smith apparently told ESPN's Trent Dilfer that Kaepernick would get first-team practice reps, but the job was still open to an in-practice competition. Not the case. "I ... stand behind my report," said Trotter, who's as reliable as they come. "Harbaugh to Alex: 'I'm going with Kaepernick. Alex, I'm sorry.'" Kaepernick should be viewed by fantasy owners as a high-upside Week 12 start against the Saints. Smith can be dropped in fantasy leagues.

assuming that its performance and not injury based?

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

it's an L for any starter to lose their job.

if the starter is having an excellent season and gets benched through no fault of his own, the fuck he supposed to do?

it's not an L for FANS of the team who advocated for said starter based on his past year and a half of success. our point was modest. lots of motherfuckers twisted it to adjust for their being WRONG as fuck and not being able to admit it.

therefore the offense would always be limited. Kaep has a better arm, knows the offense, and you when you throw in his mobility, it all adds another dimension to the offense and the playcalling...not to mention he was Harbaugh's hand picked QB in the draft.

Harbaugh's looking down the road bro, he aint tryna get to the NFC championship game and watch his QB go 1-15 on 3rd down again lol.

Not sure why 49er fans are afraid to admit this. Alex Smith is just a game manager. Kaepernick can actually make plays. He made throws against the Bears that Smith simply cannot make.

Kaep is set up for success here. The best thing for a young QB is a team with solid defense (check), good running game (check), and solid o-line (check). I see nothing but good things for this kids. The rest of that division should be on notice because the 49ers now have a QB not afraid to make plays.

The minute he was on a winning team, folks tried raise him above "game manager".

But it's obvious to anyone besides a handful of 9er fans that Alex Smith is not an elite QB, is limited in ability, and the 49ers have a limited passing game with him.

If Alex is healthy he deserves to start. He has two incompletions in two weeks and should start.

Then again outside of last year he's been GARBAGE and was a BUST. He's a pro bowler this year tho. He looked like the second coming of Drew Brees against us a few weeks ago.

Smith is like top 5 in QB rating and like #3 in completion percentage. I hope this is more based off the short week and Alex still not being cleared. Alex didn't do anything but lead us to Ws. I think we would have won the Rams game if he stayed in. Kaep balled on Monday and deserves to be the future of this team but if this decision fucks our chemistry it's a shame. The right D to start Kaep against is the saints though he might drop 50 on em.

This isn't just some rash decision. This is a talent based decision. Kaepernick is more talented - period.

Listen, the 49ers have never been in love with Smith. If they were, they wouldn't have went after Manning in the off season.

I actually expect him to do well for the rest of the season as the Niners don't exactly have a murderer's row of games for the rest of the season (@ NE and @ SEA are the toughest ones). Our defense should dominate the games against STL, MIA and ARI.

The problem, which has been my position this entire time, is what happens when we hit playoffs and face the cream of the crop... after they've had several games of the regular season to study film on Kaep.

Realityrap/his lame ass alias like to cyse the shitty game Alex had against the Giants but guess what... Rodgers and Brady had shitty games against that same defense last year too, in a year the Giants WON IT ALL. No shame in losing to that front line.

So what happens if the Niners reach the playoffs and lose again? Guess what, we just wasted the second half of an extremely good season with Alex and it would be stupid to go back to Alex after that point.

So yeah... the pressure is even heavier on Kaep in this situation and I really really hope Harbaugh sees something special with this kid. If he balls the fuck out and we win it all, GREAT. I will take whatever L for sticking up for a 70% completion rate QB because we just won it all.

But if not? Shit. Niners fans will always wonder what could have been if we just stuck with Alex.

I mean, say what you want about Alex, but the fact is he's never had shit for coaching until now. Call him a game manager or whatever, but you can see with the right coach he's a capable QB. Cam had a record breaking rookie year, then look what happened when the league caught up to him. Fuck gonna happen when they figure out Kaep? By then it'll be too late, cuz Smith will be mindfucked. I don't have one ounce of anything invested in either one, just seems rash and dumb to do this right now.

In response to Reply # 68

Both are athletes, but Cam's rookie greatness was
him performing a series of athletic feats in an offense
specifically designed to maximize his talents.

Kaep was just running the standard offense and made
throws that Smith simply cannot make

Smith couldn't even get their best offensive player
(Vernon Davis) the football, like, at all

The Niners ain't winning shit without an actual aerial
attack; they must score points against the Giants and
Packers

Kaep carved up the BEARS, doggie

That said, I'm not into throwing QBs to the wolves

Kinda want Kaep to be a backup next season, win the
job in the offseason

because that was the first time all season that VD faced single coverage.

I'm not going to deny that Kaep's far more talented than Smith (because he is), but he wasn't facing a defense that was fully aware of what throws he can and can't make.

People just can't discount the advantage that injury-replacement QB's have when the opposing team hasn't had a chance to study them.

We've seen this time and again... guys like Matt Flynn and Matt Cassel caked off of big games coming in for injured (or resting) starters.

This is why the top guys in the league tend to be notorious for spending hours in the film room... and why some of the biggest busts are also super lazy (Jamarcus, anyone)?

Here's an example:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/06/29/ravens-josh-bynes-says-learning-from-ray-lewis-is-amazing/

Its amazing, Bynes told the Mobile Press-Register. You couldnt ask for anything better than one of the best if not the best players in the game of football, defensively. Its just incredible to pick up the things hes seeing and the knowledge he has of the game of football.

Lewiss physical tools are great, but Bynes says its Lewiss approach to the mental side of the game that really impresses him.

When he sees something on film, he studies it like thats a Bible almost, Bynes said of Lewis. Thats something Im picking up off him. I study film, but I think his study of film is a lot different than anybody elses. . . . Im going to learn every bit I can as long as hes in the league and then hopefully when hes gone Ill be doing the same thing.

Film Matters.

There's no way a player with 8 years worth of starts gets benched for a rookie if they're as good as qualified.

Y'ALL LOST.

I told y'all he was getting Russell'd in the preseason. He can good game manage in another city next year.

Alex is a bust who was give *just enough* time to turn things around in his seventh year.

What was deaded last season exactly? It took your boy 7 full seasons to have one UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED good season. That's a shitty ratio by all accounts. Y'all lost.

Alex Smith is a bust that used his ninth life to rejuvenate his career. All the pleas y'all copped are irrelevant. Look at the facts and ignore everything from your reality distortion field.

The fact is your boy got his job taken by a live QB. Now he can move on and good game manage from the sidelines.

Colin Kaepernick says come get your L.

The fact he went after Manning in the off season, a Manning that NOBODY knew if he could even throw, should be enough.

What kills me is that some of the same 9er fans on here defending Alex Smith are some of the same people that ripped McNabb for YEARS!!!! Guess waht, Smith was never even on McNabb's level.

i told you the second the niners re-signed Alex for 3 years that he had zero chance of playing out that contract...lol he couldn't even finish out the FIRST year of the deal as the starter! and now he'll be cut this offseason to take his rightful place as clipboard holder on the sidelines cheering on the starting QB.

time for you to put the Alex Smith jersey away for good.

What all have you told me... let's see

Chad Henne is a young star in the making and hands down better than Alex Smith

Alex Smith couldn't possibly keep up the level of play he showed through 5 weeks last year

Alex can't win a playoff game

Alex was right there with JaMarcus Russell as far as busts go

Mike Singletary was a good head coach

Oh and weren't you the one saying bring in McNabb last year?

Son you don't get to run around telling people "I told you so" when you've made as many fall on your face predictions as you have

And it's a good thing they didn't pour all that money into Peyton now isn't it?

But the fact you think I'm mad Kaep is playing well might be the funniest part of this all. You either have a reading comprehension problem or are just some online asshole who loves stirring shit... my guess is a little of both.

This is coming from someone who rarely posts, but reads the opinions of INFORMED niner fans on this board. I'm disappointed at how blatantly dumb some of you are due to your attachment to your stupid "agendas".....which are often rooted in racial obsession.

I mean really. It's crazy that people like LB and Kira still can't even comprehend a basic argument (oh you go' get this work!...grow up, there is nothing to get, you already failed and flopped). This is like first grade stuff, it's not a hard argument to understand, and it's not hard to see that you got OBLITERATED and it's OVER. As a niner fan, I scan these boards from time to time, and it's fun to listen to people like OldPro and Beamer b/c they know EXACTLY what is going on with the team, a team I also follow closely and without personal bias toward certain players. These people have been RIGHT almost 100% of the time, including the whole Alex Smith debate. I remember when IMBECILES on this board were defending Singletard simply b/c he was black (let's be honest), pure stupidity. In fact, OldPro said just last week that Alex is what he is, he limits the Offense while being extremely efficient...the guy knows his stuff.

Let it be known, the Alex Smith debate is DEAD. Intelligent fans (without bias, racial or otherwise) already know that Alex Smith ravaged and raped this argument already. LB has had his butt gaped open and plundered by Alex and OldPro and most knowledgeable football fans...I don't even know if LB is a niner fan, and I would rather he is not b/c ppl like him lower the iq of the fanbase (we want carr).

People like OldPro have consistently said that Alex Smith will never be great, but he could be a solid starter in the league within the right system...that's it! Low intellect people like the OP and others, with their irrational bias, decided to add their own twist and look like fools.....and low and behold, you STILL look like fools...making overcompensating posts like this only makes you look even more childish. What is the point of listeing to any opinion of yours when you can't even admit when you're wrong or you just make up new ones to fit your NEW guidelines......you're a joke, and do whatever you can to raise your intellect, please.

I'm sure most smart niner fans chuckled when they saw this desperate attempt at attention..and it's no wonder they are barely even in here..what a joke, you're still wrong homie and you always will be. I'm done and probably won't post again, and to OLdPro and Beamer and other SMART niner fans, I appreciate the reactions and analysis. Peace.

You see I took a deep breath and walked away from much of this foolishness. As much as I'd like for Alex to be able to shine a ring in their faces, if they think I prioritize THAT over winning a Super Bowl with Scott Tolzien dropping back to pass? SHIIIIIT. these motherfuckas don't know me.

All the Alex Smith plea cops:

He just needs to be in the right system.
He needs a coach to believe in him.
He needs the right personnel.
He was injured and for _ number of games that year.
He could one day be a solid starter in this league.

Are the same things is non delusional fans say about busts ALL THE TIME.
You, Beamer, and any other delusional 9ers fan need to break down to me how I lost. Because quite frankly I see a QB with 6 FUCKING AWFUL years of starts, one good season of superb game managing and one of arguably great QB play in Alex Smith.

The six years negate the next two because anyone else doesn't get that chance.

Delusional 9ers fan tell me why Tim Rattay didn't receive the same treatment.

To reiterate Y'ALL LOST this one.

That all turned out to be true... or did I just dream a 13-3 season and being a muffed punt away from a super bowl?

Not only that, statistically he was playing at a GREAT level this year..at the very LEAST he was good (better than solid). Kaep just gives US (those who are actual fans) a more dynamic Offense. I have no idea why you even replied to that crap btw.

The pleas I typed are indicative of EVERY NFL BUST. Most busts don't hang on for until all chips lineup for them to have success. Most busts were cut after their third year.

My point is, was and will forever be most busts don't get the perfect coach, system, and offensive personnel like Alex got in his seventh year of NFL starts. Those coaches that aren't perfect get someone believes they can win with an Alex Smith of the works and puts them in the best position to win. When it fails everyone's cut or fired usually the high-priced first round QB.

You're wrong IMHO in the sense you not acknowledging Alex was a universally accepted bust before last season.

You're right in terms of the present. He had a good season last year. Statistically (I researched) Alex was on pace to have an elite year and make a pro bowl. He still got Russelled.

When did this happen?

But seriously you are selling the 2006-2010 49er dysfunction short... forget perfect coach and system... how about an historically bad one? And you don't even want to start on the list of receivers on the roster during those years.

But no I don't think I'm up for going down this road again... even though I can 'articulate' up a storm when I put my mind to it.

motherfuckers try to cuban B the SHIT out of this time period. like "only alex would get so many chances" is something that people who had NO IDEA what kind of team we were dealing with would say. the LEAST of management's worries was getting a franchise QB. John and Denise York were counting each penny, not giving a FUCK about the on the field product. As much as I laugh at his foolish ass, Jerry Jones would have turned over that roster and coaching staff TWICE during the same time span with such ineptitude that was on display.

there is PLENTY of football to still be played.

i'll speak for myself, but really the ONLY contention I had was if Kaep was ready yet and if his inexperience could bite us in the ass down the stretch. I don't believe ANYONE preferred Alex over Kaep outside of thinking the move could de-rail something unnecessarily. EVERYONE wanted whatever kept us winning.

Now if Kaep does some crazy INT/bad snap stuff in the playoffs, will you come in to take lumps? Because honestly, I'd have little interest in doling them out, it's not like I BLAME you for feeling the way you do or would be mad at you. I've always been pretty clear on how I feel about the whole thing.

Irrational 9ers fan's persecution complex strikes again!

He wasn't ready from Day 1. Remember that was a strike shortened season. There was
no way he's beating out a QB with six years of starts. Everyone said Kaep needed development time.

What myself and many others said was give him time to develop and he'll lead your squad to a title. He did just that.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/629296-2011-nfl-draft-why-nevadas-colin-kaepernick-is-the-best-of-the-bunch

NFL Draft 2011: Why Nevada's Colin Kaepernick Is the Best of the Bunch By Michael Patmas(Correspondent) on March 7, 2011

Now that the combine is over, NFL watchers are busy compiling their mock drafts while the teams are busy trying to figure out which players will best serve their needs and figure out what their strategy will be on draft day.

Although the media continues to focus primarily on Cam Newton, he may not be the best QB available. His Heisman and National Championship notwithstanding, Newton did not post the best numbers at the combine.

Peeling beneath the hype and the media glare and looking carefully at the data, I think there is another senior QB who is the stealth candidate of choice: Nevada's Colin Kaepernick. Here's why.

His career stats speak for themselves. No one in NCAA history can touch them. 10,000 yards passing and 4,000 yards rushing. No player even comes close.

Brad Smith held the record with 4,000+ yards rushing and 8,799 yards passing. Kaepernick absolutely destroyed that record, and not by a little bit, mind you. He bested it by over 1,200 passing yards. I think it is safe to say that record is in his hands for a very long time. In fact, it may be a record that will never be broken. That's because he started nearly every game in his four years at Nevada. To break that record will require four injury free years as a starter with huge production every year.

And here's another mind boggling stat: Kaepernick is the only player in NCAA history to pass for over 2,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards in three seasons.

Then consider this one: He tied the all time NCAA record for rushing TDs by a QB at 59. Had he held onto the ball in Hawaii this season, he would have set a new record at 60. Mind you, he surpassed one Tim Tebow for that record.

But none of this explains fully why he is the best QB in the draft. His performance at the Senior Bowl and the combine do.

Reports from the Senior Bowl practice week were that he was very impressive, and may have had the best week in practice of any of the QBs. At the combine, he posted the second fastest 40 yard time among the QBs and was much faster than Newton. He also demonstrated exceptional speed, agility, arm strength and touch. He clearly has the strongest arm of any QB in the draft and threw a 59 MPH football.

But here's what really caught my attention. At the Sports Science testing, he reportedly had off the charts athleticism and spectacular reaction time and accuracy. In this very high tech environment, Kaepernick reportedly identified his target and threw the ball in the vicinity of 64 hundredths of a second with 90 percent accuracy.

To put that in perspective, Peyton Manning didn't come close to that when he was a senior. Much has been said about his arm motion, but the data is clear. Despite his motion, he finds his target and throws a rocket propelled grenade with deadly accuracy in a fraction of a second.

So what we are seeing with Kaepernick is a QB who re-wrote the record books and is the best dual threat in college football history.

But, he is also faster and has a stronger arm than Newton. At 6'6" and 233 pounds, he is also a very big boy. Add to the mix his spotless record, academic performance, innate intelligence and impeccable character along with what Hall of Fame Coach Chris Ault said was "the most ferocious competitor" he had ever seen, and I think Colin Kaepernick is the best available talent in the draft. Certainly, he will need some fine tuning. But, he is very eager, humble and coachable.

Some have him going in second or third round. I would take him in the first round. The team that takes him will have gotten the best QB in the draft. I would not be one bit surprised if Colin Kaepernick is the QB we will be watching on Sundays in a few years, preferably in San Francisco!

Went to the 3rd preseason game vs Houston that year mainly to see Kap... then watched the 9ers get smashed. Left mid way through the 3rd (wife was getting cold & the marine layer was pouring in) and watched the end of the game at a BBQ joint in Foster City. People in there were shaking their head talking about what a long year we had ahead of us lol My how things have changed

You got these "Alex could have done this" "will alex get any snaps in the superbowl" Just coming up with any stupid reason to make him relevant. ...Here are some direct quotes for you..

"2) I would NEVER hope for someone to get hurt, especially a Niner, but how poetic would it be if something happened to Kaep and Alex had to finish the game? We could be super happy for both players if Alex was a big reason behind a super bowl win."

"I mean, he won more regular season games than Kap did! It would be crazy if he got another chance due to injury, but Id feel pretty secure knowing that hes behind center."

Its like a weird mixture of denial and angst with success. Like some of our fans are like coping with this whole thing.

And people thought I was a Smith apologist lol

My thing with Alex was always about him being the best QB on our roster (back in the JTO, Hill & Troy Smith days) and being in a system that was almost impossible to succeed in. Always appreciated how dude carried himself and how he developed into a team leader. Just watch the post game celebration again and you'll see Alex looking genuinely happy... he's a class act and great teammate.

But I'm not so married to any one player that I'd rather he play over another guy I know is better... I was a 9er fan long before Alex and will be long after he's gone. I'll most likely pull for whatever team he goes to as long as they aren't in the NFC west or playing us but my loyalties are with the team not a player.

These people just sound like idiots.

A large part of my Shockey hate came out of his battles with Peterson. Last jersey I bought for myself was JP's #98... in fact that will be the last 9er jersey I ever buy for myself due to my self imposed over 40 year old jersey ban lol

my entire discomfort with the situation was tied to the team's SUCCESS. IF WE WIN, I'M GOOD. Scott Tolzien, Josh Johnson, LONG AS WE WIN, I'm ALL GOOD.

I do feel bad for Alex that he did nothing wrong to derail him from his first legitimate stretch to be successful because he's been classy and professional throughout all the bullshit but he's a big boy, he RICH, and he's acquitted himself well enough that he will be playing and likely starting somewhere else next year.

But we got a Super Bowl to win!!!
