HOUSTON (FOX 26) -
Houston Rockets rookie forward Royce White, who was told he is one of three players being sent to the team's affiliate in the NBA Development League, has chosen to stay away from the team.

However, according to White his absence from the Rockets has nothing to do with the decision to send him to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

He issued a statement Tuesday night through his California-based publicist, China Myers, explaining his position.

"In hindsight, perhaps it was not a good idea to be open and honest about my anxiety disorder - due to the current situations at hand that involve the nature of actions from the Houston Rockets," White said. "As a rookie, I want to settle into a team and make progress; but since preseason the Rockets have been inconsistent with their agreement to proactively create a healthy and successful relationship.

"At this point, the Rockets are aware of my position and the reason for my absence. Any other response is inaccurate. This is important to me. it is a health issue. I must advocate for my rights. it is a player-commodity league. The failure to meet my requests for support will end with me being unhealthy and that is not a consequence that I am willing to accept to play any sport."

Rockets officials have not been available for comment on White's statement.

Earlier on Tuesday Rockets owner Leslie Alexander expressed concern for White's situation.
"That's tenuous and it's tough to talk about something like that," Alexander said.

"I think we are going to handle it internally, but it's tough. If he doesn't work out, well it's tough to lose a draft choice."

And if that happens?

"I would feel bad for Royce and I would feel very bad for the team," Alexander said.

The Rockets have not said yet how they will penalize White for being away from the team.

"We have internal repercussions which I'm not going to talk about," Alexander said.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said in a statement issued through the team: "Royce is not available right now. We are committed to his long term success and we will continue to support him now and going forward."

Rockets forward Marcus Morris said he has not seen White for three days.

"I think it's been three days," Morris said. "I haven't seen him today, yesterday and the day before.

"That's my teammate. So anytime you haven't really heard from him or you haven't seen him you get some thoughts about him."

The Rockets selected White out of Iowa State with the 16th-overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft.

White missed the first week of training camp while he and the team worked out travel plans to help him with his anxiety and fear of flying.

The Rockets also sent guard Scott Machado and center/forward Donatas Motiejunas to the NBA Development League.

Bottom line, this isn't middle school. You're a pro now. A grown man getting paid to do a gatdamn job. It's no one else's responsibility to get your head right.

You get a handle on your issues whatever they may be & do it on your time & at your dime. Period.

At this point either play or get cut. Good riddance, Idgaf what his psychosis is

had to do with the Rockets worried about Americans with Disabilities Act. But yea--i dont know. I like his game--but it wasnt the type of game that struck me enough that I wouldve HAD to have Royce--given that we have 10 other 6'8 PFs.

he Royce White Saga"
Wed Nov-14-12 01:48 PM by Shmuley Boteach

So as you all probably know, Royce White has some big anxiety issues that keep him from flying + more. So at the end of preseason right before camp he sat out for a bit based on recommendations from his doctor and team. The Rockets worked out a deal that got approved by the league that allowed Royce to take the bus when possible. All good right?

After game 1, Royce tweeted that he flew to Detroit and all was well....

Anyhow now 2 weeks into the season Royce isnt getting PT (I think a large part of this is because he missed time while negotiating the bus deal). ABout 3 nights ago, after his 4th or 5th DNP-Migraine
he tweeted "Not hurt, not even a little bit #Truth".

He's been assigned to the Dleague:

Apparently he's not happy about that:

Jonathan Feigen@Jonathan_Feigen
Sampson confirmed White skipped practice and said doesn't think White was at game last night. Told others D-League decision then.

Yesterday Matt Bullard--Rockets color guy tweeted: Per @bull50, Rockets have "set up mental health appointments for Royce every single day since he's been here" and he hasn't been to one yet.

Then Royce White releases this full statement:
Full statement from Royce White:

In hindsight, perhaps it was not a good idea to be open and honest about my anxiety disorder, due to the current situations at hand that involve the nature of actions from the Houston Rockets. As a rookie, I want to settle into a team and make progress; but since preseason the Rockets have been inconsistent with their agreement to proactively create a healthy and successful relationship. At this point the Rockets are aware of my position and the reason for my absence. Any other response is inaccurate. This is important to me. It is a health issue. I must advocate for my rights. It is a player-commodity league. The failure to meet my requests for support will end with me being unhealthy and that is not a consequence that I am willing to accept to play any sport.

Then he goes on twitter and is cosigning people supporting him and also goes at Bullard:

Royce White ‏@Highway_30
Final: If its wrong to stand up for yourself and your health... SIGN ME UP! ppl who have something to hide will stay quiet. #BeTransparent
Royce White ‏@Highway_30
Staying QUIET, because its "less sticky" is the greatest enemy of #Honesty and #Transparency. For MY anxiety it helps to be honest. #MyCure

@Highway_30
Again My "Anxiety" is not well but not BAD, my main WORRY is being treated as a digit instead of a HUMAN, in the case of my health.

I'm a little torn on this whole thing. Working in education, I understand how crippling mental health can be for young people. I've also dealt with some anxiety in different social situations in my life so I get how crippling it can be (and I'm not even diagnosed with anything), but at the same time there's something that rubs me wrong about Royce doing so much of this publicly and on Twitter.

Hate to waste a post on a player nobody cares about in terms of talent, but an interesting issue nonetheless.

I mean I have to think this can really blow up and Royce could end up being cut/blackballed from the league. I mean who else would really want to take a risk? Maybe he could just play home games a la phil jackson, lol.

take the players side in most disputes...including this one.

Rockets were aware of his issues before they drafted him right? Then they should be working with him. Whether they are to this point, only royce and rox know.

What's the deal, however, with listing dnp's as injury related when its not tho?

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Yea but what about Royce going public. Yea I know the team went public but I guess people are wondering where he is. Royce is basically bashing the organization who seems to be trying to work with him through this.

is why i asked about the dnps. If he's inactive then i think they do have to list some injury, but i thought he was dressed on the bench and they were really coaches decisions...but looking at past boxscores it appears that he wasn't dressed after all.

Without knowing all the facts, I understand both sides. Royce is trying to have an nba career in a healthy situation and if the rox are listing him as having migranes, when he's not, it'll just be another negative note on his record if any other team is willing to take a chance on him.

I haven't seen him play, but right now it doesn't appear that he's worth the headache (pun intended)

It comes down to if you want a NBA career shut up, get on the plane, or just show up at the games however you need.

Or shut the fuck up and get a job at Dick Sporting Goods that's within driving distance to your townhouse.

you could argue it was an acceptable reach because of the risk/reward
but this team needs depth
and they're going need it going forward
in retrospect teague could have been a nice developmental scoop at that spot

he has upside, but its not like its Lebron James. I feel like his upside was role player, possible starter-like Chandler Parsons.

>but this team needs depth
>and they're going need it going forward

Jonathan Feigen@Jonathan_Feigen
Conflict began week ago today when White, Morey discussed playing time, White position that wasn't given enough opportunity to earn minutes.

With White blaming the Rockets for failing to consistently support his treatment for anxiety issues, White is being fined every day he remains away from the team or fails to attend sessions with a therapist the Rockets have arranged for him, a person with knowledge of the situation said.
Quote:
Morey told White in those meetings that other players had earned playing time before him. White, however, argued that he was not given enough opportunity to demonstrate that he could earn a place in the rotation, increasingly saying the Rockets were holding his anxiety disorder against him and that he was being treated as a commodity, a position he has repeated in Tweets following Tuesday’s reports about White missing practices.
Quote:
The Rockets have made arrangements for White to be treated by Dr. Aaron Fink of the Baylor College of Medicine, but White has not attended those sessions. NBA contracts allow for players to be treated by doctors of their choosing if approved by the teams, but require that players unable to play or practice because of medical conditions see doctors or therapists assigned by the team.

The Rockets intend to continue to fine White every day he fails to report to practice or attend sessions with Fink, the person familiar with the situation said. Rockets owner Leslie Alexander on Tuesday said that there were “internal repercussions” for White missing practices and games.

Alexander brought up the possibility that the Rockets might end up having wasted a draft pick on White, the 16th player taken in the draft in June. The Rockets, however, have no plans to trade or release White, the person familiar with their thinking said.

I mean dog, you missed most of camp negotiating this shit, you have a bunch of talented players who play your position. DMO and Terrence didnt play--and didnt say shit. Im all for mental health support, but you cnat whine your way and use your mental health as a "threat" or "reason" you should be getting more PT.

Marcus Morris went to Dleague last year, look where he is now. WTF was he expecting? Yea he has some talent but he isnt a star. The few preseason minutes he played, he didnt look good--and didnt earn anything.

At this rate its almsot impossible to end well because neither side will want to look soft in the face of this.

Kinda old update:

According to sources, White's most recent problems with the team began last week when he told the club he was upset that he was not playing, and he said if he is not playing he is going to have anxiety and he is not going to show up.

is it possible to just sedate him during the flights?
i'm not a neurologist or anything
but i know lil wayne and rick ross had some kind of seizure related to being high while flying(or at least that's what tmz said)
maybe it's not medically possible to just put dude to sleep when the team flies
iono if he has any real options
but regardless he needs to at least realize that houston went out on a limb for him and he needs to be trying work with them more so than them needing to cater to his ass
it's a shame he's crazy or got some issues, get well soon and all that
but playing in the NBA is a privilege and he needs to at least be smart enough to play this well enough as to not get that contract voided

a blackballing is when people with power collude to exclude a deserving person of a job, like when MLB owners colluded to keep Curt Flood out of baseball after he started free agency be ending the reserve clause.

this is not blackballing, it's everyone coming to the same conclusion that White is not worth giving an NBA contract to.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/84...t-matter-trust

Quote:
Royce White was a no-show at the Houston Rockets' training camp in McAllen, Texas, this week because of trust, not a bus.

You have to start there to understand his reasoning -- simultaneously confusing and commendable -- for his absence thus far.

The former Iowa State forward has reached an agreement with the franchise that will allow him to bus to some of the team's road games, pending league approval, according to KRIV-TV. White requested the team's permission to use a private bus -- which he is willing to fund -- because flying aggravates his generalized anxiety disorder.

White told ESPN.com on Wednesday night that the ability to travel by bus to some road games was necessary, not special treatment.

"What it's going to look like is every game that's drivable, I'm going to get a bus for myself," White said. "And I'm going to make that bus feel like home so that there's a level of consistency in a job where inconsistency is very apparent because of the schedule. I'm going to try and level that out and make sure that my stress levels stay low and that my rest is regular and that my meals are regular and that, as much as I can, draw consistency from a very inconsistent schedule. ...

"People with mental illness, one of the most important things is that they have that consistency and routine. The girth of was, 'Can I travel by bus to close enough games?'"

Yes, his anxiety and fear of flying are the tangible reasons for his decision. But I believe White really stayed away because he doesn't trust easily.

I've covered his career since he was in high school. He wants to know that the Houston Rockets really care about him and his condition. He wants to make sure that he is more than an investment to the franchise. This request was White's attempt, in part, to measure that commitment.

We spoke for nearly an hour Wednesday night. As he discussed his decision -- in his eloquent and sophisticated way -- he repeated his concerns about the rigors of an 82-game schedule without the assistance of a bus.

This is not some act. White is serious about this demand. Without the bus, he said, he's not sure how he would handle his rookie season.

White had consulted with a family doctor he's known since high school -- the same woman who treated him for anxiety when he was first diagnosed with the condition nearly five years ago -- about the team's plan for his care. They decided that the bus was essential. No bus, no training camp.

White trusts that family doctor in Minnesota. She has been there from the beginning of his bouts with anxiety disorder.

Yes, the Rockets pay White a lot of money and have the resources to offer him the top psychological care in the world. But they're still new.

White doesn't always trust new.

I speak from experience.

I know White didn't trust me in those early years. Not necessarily because I was a reporter but because I was different -- not a part of his circle, the core people in his life who he consults before he makes these calls. For everyone outside of that, there's a good chance you'll struggle to earn his trust.

I met White when he was preparing to enter his senior season at Hopkins High School (Minnetonka, Minn.). He had been expelled from another school for academic misconduct. I didn't know what to expect when he arrived at a small diner with his grandfather.

White didn't have a bad guy's swagger, although that's the perception that has followed him throughout his career. He spoke about his life. His dreams. He talked about Catholicism and philosophy. He seemed mature beyond his years.

AP Photo/Paul Battaglia
As a freshman at Minnesota, White was suspended from the team for off-the-court issues.
Since that time, somehow, I've managed to gradually gain his trust, I think. I've written about his greatest failures (legal issues at Minnesota, his expulsion in high school) and his greatest victories (leading Iowa State to the NCAA tournament, his decision to open up about his anxiety).

But it's always been a cycle with White. One day he might trust you. The next day, he might not.

When White was a freshman at Minnesota, he called me and said he wanted to talk about his 2009-10 suspension from the program at a local restaurant. The team benched him after a shoplifting incident and an investigation surrounding a stolen laptop. I waited for two hours and then I called him. He had ultimately decided to postpone the interview but failed to notify me.

He can be impulsive like that sometimes.

His decision to ask the Rockets for a private bus days before training camp was swift but not surprising. Those around him will tell you the same thing. Sometimes, he just acts on his feelings, especially if there are trust issues or concerns. He gravitates toward people he believes he can trust and runs from those he can't.

So this is bigger than basketball, anxiety or flying to White.

He has asked the Rockets to address his anxiety the way they would treat a player with a broken ankle. He's injured. He needs certain tools to function.

It puts the Rockets in a unique position. White's request for a bus could be unprecedented, especially for an NBA rookie. But it's just as symbolic as it is essential. Permission to bus to games means the Rockets are looking out for White.

White's father wasn't involved when he was young, and he has had various family challenges throughout his life. He watched an abusive boyfriend mistreat his mother. He lived with different family members. There were times, he said, where he never felt a sense of stability in his youth.

So White developed ties to coaches and friends. They became his family.

He'll surely turn to his first high school coach, DeLaSalle's Dave Thorson in Minneapolis, throughout his rookie season. The family doctor he has confided in since he was a teenager will always be the go-to professional for his anxiety. He is loyal to those who have contributed to his life. He'll quickly dismiss those who haven't.

That's why he's taken on this role as the face of anxiety in sports. He feels a connection and a responsibility to the other sufferers. They're like him. They are him.

Prior to White's admission of his condition, few athletes had been so forthcoming about mental illness. White risked his professional career with his vulnerability. Phrases such as "red flags," "character issues" and "risky prospect" were attached to his name in the weeks leading up to last summer's draft.

White's status has put him in a position to advocate for the millions who deal with anxiety disorders. He has the exposure that they lack. He can meet with reporters. He has been invited to speak at venues throughout the country. This is not just his challenge anymore. It's his cause.

There is, however, another side to this.

I understand the frustration with his approach to the matter.

White has been vocal about his anxiety. At times, though, his delivery has teetered on attention-seeking behavior. When I talked to him about his condition in January, he was very open and nervous. He knew there would be a massive response. Since then, however, he has been featured on TV, in national publications and on high-traffic websites. He is not just a basketball player anymore. He's a noteworthy advocate.

That level of recognition can be dangerous.

When White called me Wednesday night, he wanted to make sure that his message would be heard by the masses. The thousands of comments on ESPN.com suggest that he has accomplished his goal.

Even though his request for a bus is related to his anxiety, he didn't exactly minimize the issue. He missed media day and the start of training camp. He forced people to ask questions. He created this level of intrigue.

He's done that throughout his career.

Days after he committed to Minnesota, he popped up at a local AAU tournament with a giant "M" carved into the back of his head and a 20-man/woman/child entourage that crowded the margins of the gym. When he "quit" the basketball team at Minnesota, he made a YouTube video that didn't announce his intentions until the end of the clip.

He knows how to get attention. That quality has served him well as he attracted more support for anxiety and those who suffer from it.

It's also led White to trouble. That design on the back of his head and that YouTube video didn't help him escape concerns about his character. White has matured since that time, but the theatrics surrounding this request have the same aroma of that teenager who wanted folks to notice him.

At this juncture in his life, he is still searching for that balance between advocating for a serious cause and staying humble through that process. It's not easy given the rapid elevation he's experienced in recent months.

But he is potentially risking his NBA future by doing things this way. He could alienate his teammates. He could adversely affect his relationship with the franchise and the league.

Access to a bus might ultimately give White that sense of security he's always desired. What he may not realize, however, is that the Rockets have to trust him too.

than anxiety///

"The narcissistic solution is to avoid comparison and competition altogether and to demand special treatment. The narcissist's sense of entitlement is incommensurate with the narcissist's true accomplishments. He withdraws from the rat race because he does not deem his opponents, colleagues, or peers worthy of his efforts.

As opposed to narcissists, patients with Anxiety Disorders are invested in their work and their profession. To be exact, they are over-invested. Their preoccupation with perfection is counter-productive and, ironically, renders them underachievers.

It is easy to mistake the presenting symptoms of certain anxiety disorders with pathological narcissism. Both types of patients are worried about social approbation and seek it actively. Both present a haughty or impervious facade to the world. Both are dysfunctional and weighed down by a history of personal failure on the job and in the family. But the narcissist is ego-syntonic: he is proud and happy of who he is. The anxious patient is distressed and is looking for help and a way out of his or her predicament. Hence the differential diagnosis."

Royce White's battle with Rockets over anxiety disorder could cost him NBA career
1 hour 6 minutes ago
Email

The Rockets made Royce White the 16th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. (AP)
As a lost, confused young man plays the martyr on Twitter timelines, Royce White's chance to construct a sustainable professional basketball career slips away. He's chasing cheers on the court for the Houston Rockets, but they haven't found him deserving of playing time. So, White started to lash out, search for his stardom in cyberspace, and it's turned a combustible partnership into an embarrassing public spectacle.
White has left the Rockets, and there's no telling when he'll return. Before long, White will lose the platform that he so desperately wants to advocate for mental illness. He's fighting a noble fight, with the most noble of intentions, and perhaps someday he can be remembered as a trailblazer on the issue of anxiety disorders.
Yet now, this can't be his crusade, his burden. It's too much. People have tried to tell him this. Royce White needs to save himself and save his basketball career. Without the NBA, his desire to bring awareness – to be a champion for change – will come to an unapologetic and abrupt end.
As White turns this organization into his betrayers, turns himself into a martyr of injustice, he should be preparing himself for the end of his NBA career. This is professional sports, and the cold truth is this: So far, he isn't worth the trouble. So far, he was a waste of a draft pick at No. 16, a waste of the time and care invested in him. Maybe that's hard for him to hear, but it's true – and only he can change it.
This isn't a dismissal of mental illness. This isn't a belittling of his struggle. This is simply a fact. As he rails against the Rockets' insistence that he meet with one of their doctors when he's failing to honor his contract to show up for practices and games, he's losing sight that this is the one organization that's invested in his mental health and development as a player.

If Houston gives up on him, White will struggle to find another team willing to make even close to the commitment – if any at all. White has turned down NBA D-League assignments, missed practices and conditioning workouts and tried to convince Rockets officials that his anxiety order would be much, much better if they would simply play him in games. This isn't a negotiation, and never will be.
Houston redid White's contract so it could pay for White's RVs and car services on trips, because of his fear of flying. The Rockets have let him come and go this season without fining him. They owe him that patience and understanding, but they don't owe him playing time. It's earned in the NBA, the way three Houston rookies are trying to earn it.

White has yet to play for the Rockets in the regular season. (AP)
If it was easier for White to manage his anxiety disorder when he was the star at Iowa State, well, that isn't the Rockets' problem. There's no leveraging an anxiety disorder to get out of a D-League demotion and onto the NBA floor.
When meetings with Rockets coaches and officials couldn't get White the minutes he wanted, when a demotion to Rio Grande and the bus trips of the minors had been broached, White stopped showing up to the team's facility for practices and games last week. Maybe it was a coincidence, but White is losing the benefit of the doubt.
Metta World Peace and Delonte West had public bouts with mental illness and eventually confronted them in constructive, public ways. They tried to make a difference for people, but they also had proven themselves as NBA players. World Peace has lasted in the league because he understood this is a results business, and he's had to be even better than the next guy to survive so long with the issues that never went away. Right now, White hasn't played a minute in the NBA, and it's fair to wonder if he ever will.

The Rockets believed it was a significant gamble to take White with the 16th pick, but considered him one of the top five talents in the class and were willing to be patient, to give him every possible support system and do the most dangerous thing a team can do in a locker room: allow there to be a separate set of rules for an athlete.
White wanted separate transportation to get to training camp, and it was offered him. He didn't take it. The Rockets redid his contract and agreed to pay for the RV travel to bring him to selected games. They sent a vehicle to pick him up for the drive to training camp, and he didn't get into it. The list goes on and on, and it's November of his rookie season.
Most teams in the NBA would never give White this kind of special treatment. "He isn't good enough – and I'm not sure anyone would be good enough – to have a completely different set of guidelines for him," one GM told me. "I would've already cut him."
There are a lot of NBA owners and GMs who agree, and yet the Rockets think differently on White. In that way, he's fortunate. It is hard to have an NBA career, and it's even harder for him given the obstacles he must overcome. Everyone is rooting for this guy, especially the franchise that's getting ridiculed for drafting him, the general manager, Daryl Morey, who clearly has an angry owner over the entire spectacle.
I don't know what it's like to live with White's anxiety disorder, and I don't pretend to know how he should feel about what's happened lately between him and the Rockets. Nevertheless, there are people close to him begging him to start cooperating with the Rockets again, because this is the best chance – the best commitment – a franchise will ever have in him as an NBA player.
In the past 24 hours, White slowed down the Twitter rampage and started to fulfill some of his obligations to the Rockets, sources told Yahoo! Sports. That's something, anyway. This public platform matters to White, and he needs to understand that despite his protests, he is indeed a commodity. When the risk outweighs the reward on him, he's gone – and probably gone forever in the league.
The NBA will never be played on his terms. Royce White isn't good enough, and the sooner he realizes it, the sooner he understands only he can save himself right now, the sooner he can maybe salvage a career that's already slipping away.

-explains own personal story with his son, and how he deals with episodes personally
-Thinks that the Rockets should wait it out, and see what happens throughout his rookie contract.
-Wants the Rockets to understand that these are not rational thoughts coming from Royce, and they need to understand that.
-Says after they give it enough time, and if he doesn't learn to trust them over time, you can let him go. The conclusion has to come from his decision to trust the Rockets.

Not even as a player, but as a person...understanding that we as a country dont know/do enough for people with mental health. This shit just comes across as selfish and narcissistic.

This dude stays hashtagging #transparency, and wants to tweet left and right about what the rockets arent doing but its all just riddles and no transparency on his part. If you wanna tweet and say something, then say SOMETHING.

The only thing I can surmise that he wants is to come back into our regular squad and get minutes everyday. Who the fuck would do that? That would blow any chemistry and good will the rest of our team has built.

White calls Rockets' statements misleading, inaccurate

Posted Dec 30, 2012 1:57 PM

An official statement from Royce White:

We say there is such an unknown element to mental health in this country, due to the number of people who are not diagnosed. This element also makes it a tough demographic to support.

I agree.

However, it saddens and frightens me to know that in this situation all the decision makers involved have been informed of all the medical dynamics, and yet still refuse to adhere to medical sensibility. In hindsight of the recent tragedies in this country, that had mental illness variables, you would think it would encourage people to act more proactively in that arena. You would think that decision makers who are not well informed about mental health, would take the consultation and recommendation of those who are. You would think we would start to do everything possible to not let the tragic consequences befall us first, before we ask the logical question, "why?", "who knew?" "how could we have helped?. Why not take a proactive approach of "who knows?" "how can we listen?", "how can we support now?"

I do wish to play, but I only intend to do so with the collaboration and recommendation of trained professionals. The purpose of a doctor's confirmation is to ensure that health decisions are made in the sole interest of health and not conflicted with business. My only hope is that decision makers involved realize that doctors are the only logical source to decide action.

There is an admitted lack of knowledge on behalf of the Rockets and the NBA, it becomes transparent as they choose to forego the knowledge of trained professionals and make independent decisions for something as complex as mental health without consulting any doctors. The Rockets have told me in recent conversations that it is their right to decline even their own doctors' recommendations. The concept of not listening to medical consultants in medical situations is alarming. It is also alarming that a player is susceptible to fines for simply adhering to the recommendation of doctors.

It is true that accommodating mental health can be very tough and complex, however, sometimes the only reasonable solution to doing what is right is doing what is tough. To portray that the Rockets have been supportive to me is fundamentally incorrect.

The information that the Houston Rockets have publicly presented about this situation has been extremely misleading and a lot of times totally inaccurate. An image of support has been presented by the Rockets, but the only logical support here would be listening to the recommendation of the medical professionals involved. That has not totally happened here. I have chosen to not play, because the doctors and I believe it to be unsafe for unqualified Rockets front office personnel to make medical decisions, as they are not mental health professionals.

Sad turn of events for a talented kid, but if he's honest about mental health coming first, he may need to realize that this is a sport in which a clean bill of mental health in regards to his condition may be a requirement.

w/ known mental health problems.

I cannot know what is or is not being done w/ him and where it's coming from, but it certainly appears from the outside the team is willing to work w/ him and he's mostly responding with crazy/paranoia.

I don't know if that's the case, but it's how it looks.

He replies to them, and kills them with kindness! Good for him for sticking up for himself with some finesse.

I hope he and the Rockets can figure everything out...

I think he has a chance to be a very good NBA player. His skill set and instincts are truly outstanding.

and has skills to be a decent nba player---but not what morey seems to think.

Hes a limited shooter now, cant just overpower guys like he did in college, and can be turnover prone for all the brilliance he can bring.

I think hes like Boris Diaw (not when boris is at his worst or best--but in between boris)---eh

With that said he played some of the best players in college basketball pretty well--a lot of those guys are sucking in the NBA right now anyways though.

White leaves Rockets’ D-League team without explanation
Posted on March 21, 2013 at 10:36 am by Jonathan Feigen

Royce White played in 12 games with the Rio Grande Vipers of the NBA Development League. (Joel Martinez/Associated Press)
The brief NBA Development League career of Rockets rookie Royce White could be over. Whether a career in the NBA can be salvaged remains unclear after the latest turn in his tumultuous season.

White announced via Twitter that he was leaving the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to be in Houston for the remainder of the season at the advice of “the team physician.” He did not offer any explanation but later said he was returning to Houston, not the Rockets.

Rockets management was not a part of the decision, according to a person with knowledge of their thinking on the issue.

Rockets officials would not comment. Even less clear is whether the agreement that White considered necessary to report to the D-League in February will protect him should the Rockets wish to suspend him again.

White had been initially assigned to the D-League on Dec. 29 and was suspended Jan. 6 for failing to provide services required by his NBA contract when he refused to report to the Vipers. After reaching an agreement on issues related to the treatment of his anxiety disorder, White was reinstated Jan. 26 and given time to train before reporting Feb. 11.

In 12 games with the Vipers, White averaged 9.6 points and 5.6 rebounds, making 41.6 percent of his shots and 62 percent of his free throws. The Rockets later assigned Terrence Jones to the Vipers, but that move was considered unrelated, coming because of several strong practices since Jones recovered from a sprained thumb.

The 16th choice in the 2012 NBA draft, White has not played in a game for the Rockets this season and has not attended a game or practice since Nov. 11.

The first two seasons of his contract are guaranteed for $3.36 million. White ranks sixth among Rockets players in salary guaranteed for next season.

White later sent a tweet questioning the importance placed on professional sports.

“Don’t understand the uproar because I’m working out in Houston…” he wrote in the tweet. “Lol, relax ppl! Showing you’re too high strung over sports.”

Anxiety is a pretty serious disorder and it's understandable that he has reservations about a lot of things. What's not understandable is spending time on the fastest changing social media site in the world on a regular basis.

I read some article where he really down played the flying issue

and spun his anxiety disorder/houston conflict into a health issue

saying the problem he had was with the team doctors clearing him to play

and wanted his own doctor to have final say

something like that

looks like the 6ers just used him as an expiring contract

and dude's career might be deuces
