"Where all the deron' better folks at?"

I always thought it was 1. cp3 2. deron since forever, even the last few years when the whole nets team was ass...but this dude got to put it together this year...if not, it needs to be discussed.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

i assumed it was because of the general malaise in NJ and a lack of talented teammates, but maybe this is just who he is now. he's obviously capable of big games, but he's ever been an elite PG in terms of taking care of the rock or defending.

the whole deron vs. CP3 was always a joke, even when williams was playing much better than he has in recent seasons.

offensive rating of 99 and defensive rating of 120! he hasn't been on the right side of the off/def rating in NJ, but that's just ridiculous.

an elite PG just can't have an assist/turnover ratio of 8:5. zero blocks all season and under a steal a game. yuck.

it means that deron's been responsible for scoring 99 points for every 100 possessions while giving up 120 on defense. not my favorite stat in the least, but sort of a snap-shot of the disparity between his offense and defense so far this season.

It's just when centers who put up 3 points a game on 65% shooting that have 130 Off Rating or Steve-Kerr types who have 125 because they shoot the 3 ball.

Defensive Rating is also problematic, as it is VERY dependant on the team. Like Melo, Stat both had career defensive seasons playing with Chandler, according to the Def Rating.

and deron will probably put up good numbers (20ppg on 45%, 9 assists). but i think he'll continue to turn the ball over rampantly and play poor defense. i just can't see a team anchored by hump and lopez being able to defend the paint very well. and deron and johnson aren't exactly perimeter stoppers.

I still would rank him as the 2nd best pg in the L, but i'm a whole lot less confident than I was when he was in utah.

This ain't a "deron shooting 40% wit 4turnovers a game" after 3 games post.

Youve been in like two Rockets game posts like "but Jeremy lin is playing good though" or "jeremy Lin is looking ok"

just to make sure you have all your bases covered...like you do with The Knicks Agenda/Jeremy Lin. You got a win win there cause either way you can shit on Jeremy Lin--or the knicks organization for letting it go.

I dont really get into all the agenda back n forthing, but I already peeped game.

I see you waiting on Monday to try and create a new post when they play the Heat

Say what you want about Lin sucking so far this season.

13, 7, 5 and 3 steals with 3 turnovers (while a myriad of other "better" pgs are avging more turnovers) while "sucking" looks pretty damn good to me.

Like I told truth.

His retirement sitting at 17 and 7....Jeremy already got that 7 covered, once he starts rolling that 17 is right around the corner too. He's a dead man walking.

Its funny though cause if Jeremy ends up at 16.9 and 7 he gonna act like he won.
LMAO

what he thought lin was going to do this year. all he said was if he does 16 and 6 he guesses that's fine, and he was being generous. Other than that, he was ducking like shit.

i clown dude when i got some time on my hands, but normally i just ignore him.

subjctmattr and truth came out and said what their expectations were or what their line is and moved on. Truth drops a barb every now and then, but its okp you pose to. Spm mentioning lin in every other post like a dunce. I guess when you have an nba team to root for, you actually do that during the year but when all you got is your agendas, that's what you do.

my infatuation was with brooklyn, not the nets...you never saw me post that the team was gonna do this and that, or that they were better than the knicks. I even had the knicks 4th and nets 5th in my preseason predictions.

my infatuation died after i saw the opener.

can't front though, after monday's game, i was proud of my borough...not cause the nets won, but because of the energy of the arena...it was a proud moment...come playoff time i'll likely be siderooting for the nets...cause they are bk and I know we can beat them lol...i root against them now wit no prob tho.

if you wanna get on me for rooting for the rox tho, that's another story.

dude stfu wit that shit
that's hedging an agenda or just being a normal muhfucker watching a game?
honestly i'll probably be feeling sorry for lin before the allstar break
13 5,5,5 or whatever his stat line is aight i guess for a dude making MLE money......even if he can't defend a rocking chair and shoots airball 3's when wide open
fact of the matter is the average person watching these rockets games would NOT want jeremy lin starting on their team
shit make a poll if you think that's hyperbole you might get 5 yes votes from lakers fans lol
anything beyond the fact that dude is a below avg. starter in this league is just some agenda shit that's a result of YALL being over emotional and overreacting to ppl not joining your circle jerk during linsanity
how hard would it have been to say i disagree and keep shit moving. naw u went in so now u accountable long term

oh and guinness gon get his too
media already talking about how teams got the blueprint to shut down harden 4 games into the season on nba.com(lol)
them efficieny numbers gon fall off a cliff and only thing that will be left is an undersized 2 that can't defend and is a turnover machine on a lotto team

Still am
A. Deron outplayed CP3 head to head NUMEROUS times
B. CP3 missed the playoffs MORE than Deron has, all the while having similar teams
C. They both put up similar #'s

CP3's got a great squad with him since the trade. Now Deron does too, so I have bigger expectations. I'm not gonna get mad if people say CP3 is better, but to me Deron is better, albeit by the slimmest of margins.

When cats say CP3 is better and it's not even close, that's when I'm like huh?

You can keep trying, but again:
1. You used math to argue against a mid-range game
2. You swear by Mike D'Antoni
3. You said Harden is the 2nd best offensive SG in the game, next to Manu (both of which come off the bench)

And that's just THIS YEAR...I can keep going about how outrageously wrong you are

CP3 got a better team, if he don't make the WCF this yr, what does that say about him?

If Deron gets a less talented Nets team to the ECF...which is very plausible. Hmmm...

AND Deron got his team to the WCF with Utah.

Paul might have more overall talent but delivering when it counts?

i'd say in their relative conferences the two teams are on kind of even footing, at least they were going into the year. nets loaded up and brought back deron, clippers got a bench, i didn't see anyone picking either team to win the conference and conference finals would be about the ceiling for both, second round realistic expectation.

then you've got a bunch of speculation that the nets will make it and shouldn't, that the clippers should make it and won't. that is nonsense.

paul has been playing better and short of a narrow window where deron was on top of his game in utah, he has been better all along. i was always more of a deron fan but last season kind of soured me on him. dude is looking more like andre miller than an elite PG.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/18/sports/basketball/misfiring-deron-williams-takes-shot-at-the-nets-system.html?_r=3&

Misfiring Williams Takes Shot at the Nets’ System
By HOWARD BECK
Deron Williams became a Net because the Utah Jazz traded him, because they feared he would leave anyway and because Williams himself could not guarantee otherwise.

“It was smart on their part,” Williams said Monday, “because there’s a possibility that I wouldn’t have came back.”

Twenty-two months and a $100 million contract later, Williams seems happy with his fate in Brooklyn. He has a solid supporting cast, a winning record and the adoration of New York’s biggest borough.

But some things were better in Salt Lake City. Namely, Williams himself.

Since coming to the Northeast, he has eroded in nearly every facet of his game. His scoring has declined, and his shooting percentages have plummeted. Through 23 games, Williams is averaging 17 points and 8.3 assists while shooting 38.8 percent from the field and 29.9 percent from 3-point range. Injuries may be partly to blame.

But as the Nets prepared to host the Jazz on Tuesday, Williams listed another factor: the playbook.

“That system was a great system for my style of play,” Williams said of the “flex” offense run by Utah Coach Jerry Sloan. “I’m a system player. I love Coach Sloan’s system. I loved the offense there.”

The comments were provocative on multiple levels.

Williams was widely blamed for Sloan’s sudden retirement in February 2011, just before the Jazz traded Williams to the Nets. And his openly pining for Sloan’s system could be viewed as subtle criticism of Coach Avery Johnson’s offense.

Williams did nothing to discourage that interpretation when he was asked to compare the offense used by the Nets with the one he ran in Utah. “Is it as good as there? No,” he said. “There’s just more one-on-one and isos” in Johnson’s offense.

The Nets rely much more on isolation plays, usually featuring Williams or guard Joe Johnson, than the Jazz ever did. It is a staple of Avery Johnson’s offense. However, Johnson has also installed a number of “U.C.L.A.” sets, to emulate some of Sloan’s offense.

An Eastern Conference scout noted that Johnson never ran the U.C.L.A. sets when he coached in Dallas and that he seemed to be using them now for Williams’s benefit.

Williams made his remarks on Monday after Johnson had already spoken to reporters, so the coach was not available to respond.

During his peak years in Utah, from 2006-7 through 2009-10, Williams’ field-goal accuracy ranged from 45.6 percent to 50.7 percent. He was shooting 45.8 percent for the Jazz when they traded him in February 2011. In 90 games with the Nets, Williams is shooting 39.6 percent from the field.

The struggles were understandable during the season and a half Williams spent in New Jersey. The team was terrible, the environment was depressing, and Williams was frequently hurt.

But with a talent-rich new roster and the move to Brooklyn, the Nets (13-10) expected Williams to return to All-Star form. They are still waiting.

Williams has converted 50 percent of his shots in just three games this season. At 28, he is too young to be on the decline. Just two years ago, he was considered one of the top two point guards in the N.B.A.

Although Williams is dealing with wrist and ankle injuries, he said the problem was not physical. Avery Johnson concurred.

“I even told him before practice today in our video session, nothing is wrong with his game,” Johnson said. “Everything is going to be fine. It’s the 23rd game of the season. He has a chance to get on a roll for the next 23 games.”

The problem may be where Williams is getting his shots, according to a recent analysis by Ethan Sherwood Strauss of Bleacher Report. In 2008-9, Williams attempted 43.3 percent of his shots at the rim, Sherwood noted. Since Williams joined the Nets, that figure has dropped below 30 percent.

In recent weeks, Williams has alluded to his confidence and comfort level as issues. This is the first time he has specifically pointed to the offense. He said his high school team had a set system and that his college team ran a motion offense that featured cutting and passing.

“I’m used to just movement,” he said, “so I’m still trying to adjust.”

But, Williams said, “I believe I can adapt to anything. We’re still a young team. Things don’t happen overnight. It’s still just December.”

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Colangelo: Deron Williams Was Overweight At Olympics
Feb 16, 2013 12:02 PM EST

Deron Williams was out of shape before aggravating an ankle injury at the London Olympics, USA Basketball president Jerry Colangelo said.

Williams has struggled at times during his first season in Brooklyn, and the Nets have maintained his body is worn down because of nonstop playing over the last two summers.

“Deron Williams, for the Olympics, was not in the best shape,” Colangelo said. “He was a little overweight, and I told him that at the time.”

Williams has missed 23 games since joining the Nets.

Williams underwent platelet rich plasma injections in both ankles this week.

“I feel close to Deron, both from being from Illinois, and (from when) he was playing at Illinois . . . so I think I know him pretty well,” Colangelo said. “He’s a heck of a player, great guy, made a real contribution to USA Basketball and if he decides that he can’t participate because of his own health conditions, I’ve got a list a mile long of people who want to play."

i don't even watch deron like that but simply using the eyeball test this season, i could see he was out of shape. if perkins or meta wp can drop weight in the offseason, deron can drop 15 lbs.

good one, OK Sports experts...

From 08-10, it was a reasonable argument. It certainly wasn't a stretch by any means.

CP3 has a pretty stacked team at his disposal right now, and while Deron isn't playing with scrubs, it's reasonable to simply chalk this up to an off year for him. Let's see how he recovers.

After you had bad seasons that you blamed on bad teammates.

This is his first bad season.

His shooting percentage has dropped since he got to Jersey, but that's about it. This is the first full season where he's legitimately struggled.

since he got to jersey. It's been blamed on him having bad teammates. This was supposed to be his year and it hasn't been. That forces you to go back and reassess that maybe it wasn't his teammates fault, but that he just isn't that good anymore.

He's the 3rd best player on their team right now and that might be 4th best if that trade for ben gordon goes through.

they're old. giving them more time is only going to mean more injuries and the people who do play are gonna be getting worn down.

the longer this takes, the sooner the vets are gonna lose their shit and cause drama.

the longer this takes, the more sense its going to make to at least see if any of the young dudes are gonna be able to play in a year when old dudes are still hurt/old/sorry.

and especially since high 30's will get you in the playoffs in the east, they've got another 4 months to get it together.

The lineups that they've been trotting out are pretty bad.

and the vets the nets have aren't exactly rebels. I have a hard time seeing KG and Joe johnson causing problems.
