"Why is Derrick Fisher being such a bitch?"
Mon Mar-19-12 07:52 AM by bentagain

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7706447/derek-fisher-houston-rockets-reach-buyout-agreement

refuses to report to HOU

which breaks his consecutive games played streak

gets the 48 hour deadline to report extended to 72 hours

but will only negotiate a buyout

I'm don't think he understands he CAN'T go back to the LAL

so he can walk to a team like

OKC, LAC, or MIA

and all of this from a Union Rep

this is a real bitchmade move

you can't understand it with an explanation

Not to mention he's likely a little revenge-hungry at the moment due to the emotions surrounding the exit.

He doesn't want to go to a team with zero chance at his age.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I honestly didn't pay any attention to the Utah incident

and the article I read stated that he wanted be closer to the doctors that were treating his daughter

that doctor was in New York

and after the Jazz bought out his contract

believing he would sign with an East Coast team

he signed with the LAL

some of the comments I read on the article

were

Utah is closer to New York than LA

and Derrick Fisher Lied

oddly enough, in a way despite being a bit further west I'd say it's easier to go LA-to-NYC anyway.

There's straight-shot LAX-to-JFK flights leaving every five minutes on one of the major airlines & vice versa.

But we can probably leave it here.

it's one thing if a kobe , lebron or dwight howard pulls this
but when the derek fishers or baron davis's of the league start doing it u gotta squash that shit
it's just another handicap to shitty teams
it's bad enough the shitty team usually gets yolked on the trade anyway
then the dude they get back doesn't even have to show up?
not sure how any fan that cares about the league as a whole could support that shit really

Bibby to the Heat last year? Nope.
Troy Murphy to the Celtics? Nah.
Drew Gooden to the Spurs a couple years ago? Nope.

It basically never matters. It's kinda shitty but whatever.

play hardball and not pay a player for not reporting.

Only thing the league can do is block the player from returning to the team that traded him, which was a smart addition to the cba. Other than that, you can't force a player to report..just don't pay em.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

it's a fundamental issue with the league as a whole
not saying houston would have become a title contender if fisher reported
unless a team acquires a player looking to just manipulate salary in some way (ie: half of keith van horns career)
then it's a lost of an asset anyway u spin it (assuming they aren't claimed off waivers obviously)

then it just creates a loophole in the valueA == valueB trade requirement
league doesn't care but still
believe it or not there probably were some fans in houston thinking fisher was gonna provide depth off the bench or something

Its a business decision for a team to trade a dude, and if a dude wants to make a business decision to not show up, so be it.

Obviously bullshit but that's the one instance where it actually helped a contender. Usually, they were cut for a reason.

Fish is an established veteran wit impeccable on and off the court credentials.

Dude is gon walk away from hou and get courted by multiple contending franchises desperate for the leadership and experience that fish provides even if he's one of the worst defensive guards left in the game besides nash.

The only, only, only way an athlete is dumb imo, for doing something like this is a non-proven/young player. But a dude like fish...nah, he good...and i really can't believe dudes is trippin like this.

Chauncey just threatened to do something similar when he got amnestied. If you trading for a seasoned vet at the end of their career, esp. one wit chip experience, you better be a contender in a city with beautiful weather and women or get confirmation from dudes agent that he wants to come on board OR just be doing it for the contract.

Fisher, who has no plans to retire, is now subject to waivers. If no one claims him by Wednesday, he'll become an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team except for the Lakers. The Thunder, Bulls, Heat and Spurs are all rumored to be interested in Fisher as a veteran presence and reserve guard. Mar 19 - 9:08 AM

leadership and professionalism

yet

"Derek Fisher has the ninth-worst Player Efficiency Rating among NBA point guards this year. This is his third straight year with a PER under 10; the league average is 15. He's hitting less than 39 percent of his shots, less than one-third of his 3-pointers and he's turning the ball over about 18 percent of the time, a rate significantly higher than at any point since the 1998-99 season. Opposing point guards have been outperforming him by seven points and three assists per 48 minutes of action."

what player is he better than on a team that is an elite NBA championship caliber team today?

this comes off juvenile and egotistic

>that type of shit has nothing to do with leadership and

He's one of the classiest dudes in the league. Union president. Has the respect of basically everyone in the league and fans of the NBA. He's at the tail end of his career. He can help put a team with leadership issues over the hump (the wonders he did for the Lakers in 2007 before the Pau trade proves this...that team was 28-16 before they got Pau, in which the same team without him went 42-40 the previous year).

He's professional as shit, and a team he was the heart of traded him away. He can do whatever he wants.

Unless they sorely need depth at PG (Miami)?

Fisher can't hang with the best guards in the league and he isn't a scorer. There's no need for a contender to bring him on. The Lakers kept his ass two or three years too long anyway. He'd be a liability for most of the playoffs.

"One thing you know about Derek Fisher is that he's a winner; he's not afraid of the moment and he's won multiple championships," Heat star LeBron James said Monday.

"I don't know what our plans are but I don't see it as a bad fit it if happens. What we have we're comfortable with, but he could fit anyone's team because of his leadership and his commitment to winning."

James' opinion of Fisher seems to be much like the rest of the league's: serious respect but just lukewarm interest. After sampling a group of league executives and coaches Monday, there was a wide array of opinion on Fisher.

Fish always gets his way. one of the luckest players Ever and I mean that.

a true tweener guard. worked hard, however was in the right situation at the right time with the right teammates and a Head coach that got the most out of him.

Fish was too limited in Utah

FIsh was too Slow in Golden state

but under Feel everything was just right.

now just like with Lamar he is missing that Cali Sun and atmosphere.

turkeys acting like they are entitle to staying in one place when they ain't never been top tier talent.

Fish on a Good day is a 2nd tier player and mostly a high 3rd tier player who hit some big shots and what have you, though his flopping game has taken over center stage over the past few years.

truth is i was more stunned to see Luke Walton traded than Fish since I just knew that Luke was going to have his number retired while he sat on the Bench.

from Kobe Bryant, the selfish and unrepentant gunner, and overall asshole of a human being

At least that's the narrative that a large section of the Concerned OKS Posters For Teh Love of Pure Basketball™ tried to push across, that cats didn't want to come and play for the Lakers, or if they did they couldn't wait to get away from someone who had a serious allergy to passing them the ball

Funny how the goalposts and stories always change around here

My boy MVPG needs a backup, but c'mon. I don't want this slow rascal anywhere near our team. He reeks of LA. The foul odor of overpriced cologne and Kobesweat follows him. He can go to Mia with the other wannbes.

Obviously it's moot now but couldn't he have negotiated his buyout/release and then re-signed with the Lakers 30 days following the trade? That was what was done in the past.

A lot of hubub about an 11th man who's old as dirt with a lot of winning experience behind him. I'm not surprised at all that a team took the low risk of a useless roster spot and a small sum of cash to bring him for the stretch run.

Maxxx is mostly right about him, he was fortunate to wind up with the Lakers and wind up overpaid between stints because of his success there. He was a hustler, a details guy, a decent shooter and early in his career an average defender (who was propped up like a good one). So, sure, respectable, but not anyone any would remember had he played just about anywhere else.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

for a reason. If the lakers wanted him to stay in LA they could have and still had sessions.

some whispers that they did so to avoid Fish being a locker-room distraction after the Sessions pickup, which seemed silly as hell to me but regardless they dumped him off.

what 5 games to get Sessions in the starting lineup to replace Blake. It would have been even more awkward to expect Fisher to fall back. And honestly, Fisher had made some comments in the media that, if it were any other player, would be considered undermining the coach. Mike Brown isn't above criticism. But your vocal leader talking about trying to run traces of the triangle in your first season as coach is not cool.

I just heard on the radio that Fish posted a facebook message saying he hopes Westbrook won't feel worried or threatened by his presence at all.

WTF is this dude smoking?

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

'family reasons" my ass. foh mr president.

if he's ring chasing, it's foul as shit.
but my cynicism sense is going haywire cause I think Billy Hunter has a case that how this mufucka gonna get rid of me, and he's not even playing?

yeah he was a free agent, but still. terribly suspect.

so if he hopped back on a squad JUST to deal with that? some dirty business fish.

dude is a bitch
i always thought the claim he couldn't get his daughter appropriate medical treatment anywhere but LA was wild suspect
and even if true he already had a residence in LA coulda just let his family live there while he took the hour flight on off days to go visit
first time u obviously give the benefit of the doubt
but now i think it's obvious he's a manipulative lil bitch
