if you're a Bron hater, you can rightly get mad that he just left JR hanging through that entire time. What the entire team clearly needed was Bron to shake it off, to put his arm around JR and tell him they would get it done in overtime. he did the exact opposite of that.

HOWEVER, he clearly couldn't. he gave everything he had a gift wrapped a win against the most talented team ever, assuming his teammates could at least tie their shoes. and then they couldn't even do that. he just kinda broke.

That's the moment where he realized no matter what he does this team is going to lose in 4 games, maybe 5 if Golden State gives them one.

He was struggling to come to grips with everything and the time and effort he wasted trying to get Cleveland more titles.

It's a really great clip just capturing all that real time human emotion going on that you can see.

they had 4.7 seconds to get a shot off (really 3.5 seconds once JR grabbed the rebound and gathered himself to make a move - he just moved in the wrong direction). That's not a guarantee of anything. It's an atrocious blunder, but it's not like they had the game in the bag and then JR snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Even if Hill makes the shot or JR doesn't go full Henny, the Warriors still would've had a chance to tie or win too

I understand his reaction but also saw him try to call a timeout before the clock expired. I assumed he already knew but just didn't call it in time. If he didn't know & they didn't have one that could've been disastrous too.

that he didn't rip into JR more than just what we saw on the court. That was at least worth a towel throw in the face imo

right as JR Smith passed the ball to George Hill well after be blew the majority of the time way dribbling around the court.

At least that's what I remember from that clip.

I thought I hated LeBron as much as the next man, but I see folks here in this post are going the extra mile.

41. "I count at least two good opportunities to call a timeout"
In response to Reply # 0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsE7dAprlBc

Right after Curry's last free throw, Lue could've called a timeout, reset the situation ("We're down by 1 and NO MORE TIMEOUTS. Here's our play -> give to LeBron!") and advanced the ball to halfcourt.

Doesn't happen. As they inbound, Lue's up by the scorer's table, apparently by himself. Maybe he quickly huddled with Bron or someone else off camera, but it sure appears he's a spectator at this point.

2nd opportunity is after Hill is fouled. Maybe you're worried you'll ice your own player if you call a TO now but Hill's got the thousand yard stare at 1:46 and 2:13.

Icing aside, I think you take the timeout to get organized because there are 4 different possible outcomes at this point:

1: Hill misses both: Down by 1. Need to rebound at all costs and score... worst case, foul to prolong game
2. Hill makes both: Up by 1. Deny Curry, play solid D, no fouls!
3. Hill misses first, makes second. Tied up. Play solid D, no fouls!
4. Hill makes first, misses 2nd. Tied up. REBOUND and take best available shot. If you don't get rebound, no FOULS!

You'd have to simplify for the likes of JR but Lue either has to reach JR or know that he can't be trusted on the court in that moment.

But again, no timeout, no huddle... I guess this a team of champions and they all know exactly what their options are and instinctively what needs to be done... right?

There was one last opportunity after the rebound but they were too far gone at this point if even LeBron didn't know they had a remaining TO.

>but they did have other opportunities to win the ballgame.

LeBron played a near perfect game, capitalizing on every opportunity to take the game. He attacked immediately on a 2-for-1 opportunity and finished w/ a circus shot to give Cleveland the lead - then the refs gifted Durant 2 free throws to tie the game. Despite that - Bron sets up Hill to go-ahead w/ 2 free throws...he misses the 2nd, JR goes on an acid trip, and Lue is standing there doing nothing.

There were multiple opportunities to seal the game - and nobody on Cleveland but LeBron was competent enough to capitalize.

shorter time means higher variance

CLE has a better chance of winning a 5 minute game than they do a 48 minute game, because everything regresses to its mean over time.

if you told Ty Lue before game 1 that they could skip all 4 quarters and play a 5 minute game...hed have been doing backflips.

He didn't have any more to bring to anyone. I've been at that place LeBron was in at that moment. That man had to be emotionally drained by the end of the game. The correct reaction though would have probably been to kick JR out the game. Like dude should have never got back on the court to play. But when you do so much and one dude just fucks it all up, I understand.

They weren't even supposed to be in overtime, game 1, in Golden State. That alone is a golden opportunity that anybody on the Cavs would have enthusiastically signed up for.

But because JR Smith flubbed a chance to win it before OT (a chance, not even a guarantee), this gives everyone (their great "leader" especially) the scapegoat they need to just throw their hands up, roll the eyes, point the finger, and roll over.

Goodness, i wish it was the Celtics in that position...win lose or draw, these scenes wouldn't happen. Marcus Smart probably would've brainfarted badly at some point, and they would have just kept fighting together anyway.

CLE's cap is fucked

https://hoopshype.com/salaries/cleveland_cavaliers/

They've got 4 bad contracts and $60M tied up with Bron and KLove

It is amazing that this CLE team is even in the finals...but I can't possibly see Bron sticking around to clean up this mess

That the FO made...again

They've got +$120M going to 6 players...how do you fix that?

Bron either buys the team...or he's outta there
