"Damn, Philbin just caught the pink slip fucking with Tannehill"

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13814560/miami-dolphins-fire-joe-philbin

The Miami Dolphins fired head coach Joe Philbin on Monday after a 1-3 start to the 2015 season, league sources confirmed to ESPN.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel had earlier reported Philbin's firing.

Philbin, 24-28 in Miami since taking over in 2012, became the first head coach in the NFL to lose his job this season.

The Dolphins entered this year with high expectations but looked mostly uninspired and disorganized during their current three-game losing streak. Miami has been outscored 91-48 during that stretch.

Philbin met with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross on Sunday in London after a 27-14 loss to the New York Jets, and said afterward that he was confident in his job security. Ross, however, had other thoughts once the team returned to the United States.

Dolphins tight ends coach Dan Campbell will serve as Miami's interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

The Dolphins have been awful on both sides of the football. Miami is ranked No. 23 in total offense and No. 30 in total defense, including dead last against the run at 160.5 rushing yards per game despite the addition of Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Philbin also is just 4-8 in his past 12 games dating to late season.

Philbin survived the Dolphins' bullying scandal two years ago and the team's late-season collapses in 2013 and 2014. He received a contract extension earlier this year that will pay him through the 2016 season. However, Miami will be looking for a new head coach when this season ends in January.

Yes, he's getting rushed, no protection etc, but he rarely seems prepared for the blitz that's coming...A guy comes clean off the edge, like you didn't see that there was nobody there to block him?

Philbin should have been fired a long time ago...I said after week 1 I was already done with him even though it was a W against the Skins. And as a team in general, how do you not address that o-line...I was happy about Davante Parker, but I was drinking the kool aid on the o-line being serviceable..they are a backup OT and two starting OG away from being anything resembling an NFL caliber O line.

The defense, I'm as confused as anyone else. I don't see how you get worse swapping Jared Odrick out for Suh. The LBs are terrible and consistently out of place, hence the horrible run defense, but they are the same LBs as last year and it wasn't THIS bad. Suh is balling, every other play he is shoving the G/C backwards into the QB...so the defense as a unit has me completely befuddled. I believe Wake and Vernon are vastly underperforming...I don't watch them every play, but I haven't heard either of their names called yet this season. Earl Mitchell and Jordan Phillips have been generally good at the other DT spot.

Whenever an NFL coach gets fired, it’s always fun to sit around and wait for the follow-up stories that shed some light on just how bad things were before the firing. The Dolphins fired head coach Joe Philbin this morning, and the National Football Post’s Aaron Wilson has provided us with such a report.

From Wilson:

On Saturday during practice, Tannehill, after a couple of practice squad players forced turnovers, Tannehill made negative comments toward them, including saying: “Enjoy your practice squad paycheck, enjoy your practice squad trophy.”

Sources say this has been going on for the past few weeks as the practice squad players have been intercepting Tannehill and frustrating the former Texas A&M wide receiver turned quarterback.
The report goes on to say that Philbin actually had to tell the practice squad players to take it easy on Tannehill because the quarterback was getting so rattled. Starters getting into it with practice squad players is probably something that happens all the time in the NFL, but it’s really funny in this scenario because it’s Ryan Tannehill doing the sneering, and not, say, Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning. This is what would happen if Spaulding Smails was an NFL quarterback.

Maybe Philbin shoulda told the real opponents to take it easy on Tanny too.

I am NOT shocked if this is at least partially true, but I think there's some more gold stories for us. There's some questionable as hell hunnid million-dollar QBs out there.

And I have no idea if just having a 'different energy' will do them any good.

I COULD slide my 'Mike Wallace got stuck with a shit QB who couldn't audible or throw deep shots to save his life' agenda back onto the scene right on time, but the god said chiiiiill.

In response to Reply # 13

Rewrite this headline with RG3 as the focus below.

Let me try my hand at it:

RG3's me-first attitude continues to plague the team as he curses out practice squad players for intercepting his passes.

RG3 continues his focus on his brand rather than the team.

Dan Synder refuses to let the football people do the right thing.

how in the hell does a team with Ndamukong Suh, Cam Wake and Olivier Vernon have *ONE* sack in four games? Lazor rode a single-season stint as a "Chip Kelly disciple" into being an inept OC (funny, you probably wouldn’t put Chip Kelly anything on your NFL resume now) and Philbin has been in over his head from the start.

I think a lot of times coaches get blamed too much when a roster just isn't good.

But you read breakdowns of the Dolphins' play calling and the schemes and it's a shit show.

43. "Donte Stallworth Says Tom Brady Used to Pay Practice Squad Players for I..."
In response to Reply # 0

In the wake of the report that Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill belittled Dolphins practice squad players recently, former NFL wideout Donte Stallworth revealed that one of his former teammates used to reward practice squad players for making plays against him in practice.

That teammate? New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

On Monday, Aaron Wilson reported on NationalFootballPost.com that Tannehill mocked practice squad players during Saturday's practice after the defenders came up with interceptions. Among the comments the Dolphins quarterback reportedly made was, "Enjoy your practice squad paycheck, enjoy your practice squad trophy."

That report had Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe calling out Tannehill:

Following up on Sharpe's tweet, Stallworth—a Patriots receiver in 2007 and 2012—revealed that Brady is pretty much the opposite of Tannehill:

That's what you like to see from your quarterback and face of the franchise.

Quarterbacks don't have to pay the players on the team's practice squad, so Brady certainly goes above and beyond in that regard.

However, giving them props when it's due should be commonplace at practice. There's no need to take shots at the practice squad players. They are putting in the work just like everyone else.

If someone got canned, he worked for IT, and he would have to go, turn in your badge, and electronic devices.

One lady asked to keep the phone, dude told her with a stern voice, I need the phone, AND the sim card. Chick was HURT.

I still laugh at that story.

Sucks for Coyle though...but saw this coming. They were too terrible on that side of the ball
