is how Kobe willie winguyed himself to be as good as he is.
He wasnt the #2 pick or Crowned in the same way LBJ was coming out of HS. He had some star power in HS, but wasnt this "lock" to be a GOAT in the same way MJ was and LBJ were.
I mean the draft was different then and how he turned out influenced where HS players were drafted, but KG was still drafted 5 before him. Even though he was able to force himself away from Charlotte, he was the 13th pick--far from a sure thing.
All of this to say that Kobe probably isnt better than either in his first 8 seasons, but still phenomenal and nothing to be ashamed of if youre not in an agenda war.

I was trying to say that Kobes play helped define where HS gusy got drafted knowing that someone would try to throw in a year before KG was actually drafted earlier...but also to show that Kobe wasnt seen as this transcendent talent in even the same way KG was a year before.

the way you originally worded it implied you were saying KG was taken "5 before" Kobe (as in 5 spots before Kobe), when you meant he was taken #5 the year before Kobe.
