when i think olympics, wrestling is one of the first sports to come to mind

that was some hype shit. i think that dude was hood too lol. he was goin nuts afterward

Between golf and rugby, 456 athletes are being added to the games (plus coaches and support staff); they were looking to cut something that is equally heavy on the head count. Wrestling had 330 participants in London and can't feasibly fund a comprehensive qualifying tournament to pair that down further with all the divisions and classes.

Personally, the better target was damn field hockey, especially men's field hockey (whatever that is). Something like 480 players for that one sport alone.

Ireland plays, sure, but isn't that good at field hockey. It seriously might as well be about four teams that play.

That said, the Dutch women's team...

India, Australia and the Kiwis go HARD in some men's hockey.

wrestling didnt sell out early like other events. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13918958 There is another article I read and as far as ratings go it is middle of the pack. But the sports that have worse ratings have a much smaller head count than wrestling. EXCEPT Field Hockey. But I would guess Field Hockey draws in more money from ticket sales. Just because you have to pay for each individual game versus wrestling you pay for an entire days worth of competition.

..but getting rid of it is dumb, especially as one of the OG olympic sports. I thought the Olympics prided itself on tradition/customs/etc.
